...and the Horse She Rode In On

Daria has apparently made a new friend in time for National I Love Horses Day, which is really saying something after her less-than-fond memories of horses at Camp Grizzly. Hopefully this time the horse won't throw her in a river and require her to get stitches.

If Jane wants to change up her art medium from gummi bears, today's a great day for it because it's Gummi Worm Day! She should just be sure to either label them clearly or keep them out of Tom's reach when he's feeling peckish.

On a personal note, I will be leaving on vacation soon and will not resume posting until the end of the month. A big thank you to fellow fan Azul for stepping in to post in my absence!

Fanfic Update!
  • But You're a Cheerleader, by Bolshevitch (part 3): "In the morning the Sun rises and shines through half-covered windows, but Daria doesn’t want to get up. Along with her slew of usual reasons, a relatively recent addition: she’s beginning to enjoy the company."

  • Heavenly Wine and Roses, by riotsquirrrl (part 8): "Jane closes her door on the way into her bedroom. The sound causes Daria to look up in alarm as she realizes that she is alone. In a closed room. In an empty house. On Jane’s bed."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 90): "Avalon and Shadow strode side by side through deep and bright powder snow."

  • Mysteries of Aurora, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 18): "Janara and Olivia were looking at the information on the remaining manuscripts. 'Most of these are from the same era,' Janara said."

  • Not a Boy, Not Yet a Man, by wilddogjj (parts 1 and 2): "Quinn, Jim, the triplets and Aunt Amy were at the departure section of the main terminal at Philadelphia International Airport. All six of them had suitcases." (Part 2)

  • Spider Quinn 17 Tempestuous Origin of Mysterio, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "In the cabin, Jane was growing tired of waiting for rescue. She paused in her umpteenth defense of Daria and looked at the approaching storm."

Please, PLEASE Go Back to Frowning!

Daria is serving up both cookies and terror on Share a Smile Day, and I think we're all relieved to know that she only smiles if she has a reason. Even if that reason is to scare any onlookers half to death.

I'll bet Amy is smiling, especially if she's making Helen insanely jealous with postcards on Plan a Solo Vacation Day. Of course, I'm sure Amy would be perfectly fine dropping the "solo" part if Ralph Fiennes offers to join her.

If a vacation is out of the question for you, then you could just take a short and sweet break for Peanut Butter Lovers' Day! Trent might let peanut brittle hijack his brain, or Daria might sit on another ancient sandwich.

Fanfic Update!
  • It's the Spirit that Kills You, by SharksAndRec (part 1): "Ghostly attacks on the regular were still not enough to stomp out the march of students through the hallowed and haunted halls of Casper High, and one pair of faux-leather boots were stomping out a particularly determined rhythm."

  • The Kiss That Entirely Shattered Daria Morgendorffer's Worldview, by janendaria4life (COMPLETE!): "She kissed him. She, Daria Morgendorffer, had her lips planted onto that damn moron."

Quick, Sandi, Tell a Skydiving Joke!

While I appreciate Sandi's attempt on National Airborne Day, the holiday is meant to celebrate the United States Airborne Forces. Not the people who just happen to be in mid-air...approaching the ground quickly.

Today is also National Tell a Joke Day, and this is the day. I can feel it. Jake is finally going to master the art. And even if he doesn't, could everyone just laugh anyway? We need to encourage him even when he fails.

Finally, I will be on vacation for the next couple weeks and won't be posting until the end of the month. Try not to let the cobwebs pile up too much around here while I'm gone, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 1 - 4): "Everything seemed distant, eerie and somewhat out of place at Lawndale that night." (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4)

No, Not THAT Smile!

It's Share a Smile Day and Daria is sharing her best--or rather worst--smile with us. All I can say is that I'm glad we never had to see that smile in the regular series because...oof.

Today is also Plan a Solo Vacation Day, and the idea makes the introvert in me want to share a smile. I'm sure Amy is already planning this one, as well as all of the ways she'll make sure to rub Helen's nose in it.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria: Spin The Bottle, by Meester_Lee (parts 6 and 7): "Daria awoke feeling tired and irritable. It was one thing to have her hormones awaken: she liked that. It was something else to realize that she still had a lot of garbage from her past that she needed to sort out. That wasn’t so good." (Part 7)

  • Lawndale Homecoming, by LadySparrow (parts 4 and 5): "The next morning, Daria was awakened in her bed by Helen’s muffled shouting. She looked at her alarm clock. 9:30 am." (Part 5)

  • Made in America, by ladyevil (part 10): "Daria felt her breath quicken. She felt hot and cold at the same time. She felt her stomach churn violently. She hid behind one of the giant stuffed toys and started rubbing her left wrist, feeling only a little bad at ruining Jane’s paintjob."

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, I'm outta here!

Hey there, blog readers! I'm sure you've been following my fill-in updates with bated (which beats baited) breath, but I'm afraid it's my turn for a hiatus. My husband and I are going on vacation starting tomorrow, and both the hotel and ship we'll be staying at/on insist on charging for internet access. Screw that, am I right?

Okay, yes, I'm cheap. But, hey, it's my vacation and I'll fail to update this blog if I want to! But before I go, how about one more fanfic update?

Anthony DeMartino Just Wants To Have Fun, by Smijey (part 3): "Mr. DeMartino remembered it all. The complete humiliation. The forging of the dentures. The freak radio transmission he had received on them in class the next day. And then, the blood..."

Daria/Dorian Ch.9 - Failure Is A Good Thing, by LadieT (parts 2 and 3): "As the last seminar ended, Mr. O'Neill almost leapt out of his chair. He felt as though his role as an educator had been given new meaning. He rejoined the others in the main hall of the convention center. He couldn't wait to get back to school. He had an idea of what he wanted his next class project to be." (Part 3)

The fiercest battles lie within, by VPrad (part 13): "They both remained silent, looking at each other again. They could feel in the other person’s eyes the vulnerability of the lonely soul that needs someone else to feel complete."

Go on Living, by Jim North (COMPLETE!): "Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm the Demon Barber of Fleet Street during this ritual, but I refrain this time since Paul is in the room and it bothers him. Not because he has anything against Sweeny Todd in particular or even maniacal laughter in general, I don't think, but simply because it startles him to see my features so expressive and animated." (Part 4) (Part 5)

God Save The Esteem Ep8: Eff Christmas, by Charles RB (parts 2 and 3): "The Fashion Club, as one entity, ran away. Ever since they’d created rumours that they were sexually easy, this had been happening. They were starting to think that maybe, just maybe, they shouldn’t have attempted that tactic. (But then they remembered they were becoming a bit less popular before and that strengthened their resolve)" (Part 3)

The James Lane Chronicles Ch 2, by InvisibleDan (part 2): "Daria sighed again. At this rate her lungs would collapse from all the stupid questions she had to answer."

Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 14): "Daria's birthday was a week after school ended. Jane, Quinn and Trent wanted to make her a birthday cake instead of buying one. Helen arrived home early to find the kitchen covered in cake batter while Jake and the three 'chefs' were trying to clean it up."

A Nightmare in Lawndale (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by peapotmaster (Preview): "For years, I've been a history teacher to a bunch of idiot BRATS. But no ONE knows that I'm the Lawndale SLASHER."

Road Trip: Journey's End - Journey's Beginning, by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "Both Jane and Daria knew that Connie was poor, very poor. They were both well versed in the life of poverty. They knew it when they saw it. Connie's luggage was an old duffle bag and a pair of battered cardboard boxes. A covert glance at the luggage tag and box labels indicated that Connie had taken the bus to Boston. From Louisiana."

Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Mary Sue), by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "She knew what she had to do. She knew it was the only thing she could do. She knew how she had to do it."

Unnamed Story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Ouch Time), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Daria was speechless and, pale and sweating, Jane thrust the box at her friend. 'S'for you,' she muttered, swaying on the verge of collapse."

Unnamed Story (Write-Off Challenge), by Shull Bitter (COMPLETE!): "'I got an A on a test today!' Quinn announced over lasagna."

Welcome to the Dollhouse, by Annika (part 1): "Trust is not a thing she gives lightly, not in this sense – she can count on one hand the people she really trusts in this world, and removing Trent, or any of them, from that list would hurt more than she cares to admit."

X-ed Out, by Erin Mills (part 1): "Her face curled up into an expression of unbridled rage. HE wanted to LEAVE. Leave HER. For WHAT? Some FLOOZY he met in the bar while SHE was up on stage pouring out her SOUL to him?! Oh, no. THAT wasn't going to happen. Not to HER. Not AGAIN!"

Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (part 11): "Quinn dropped by Mitch’s room on time. Guys never understood the prospect of being fashionably late. Normally, Quinn would just let them sweat it out a bit, but she had a bet riding tonight: Her plans revolved around this, and she was going to make sure it was done properly."

Finally, LSauchelli is developing a webapp version of the PPMB and would like feedback.

And there's me signing off. I leave this blog in the capable hands of my colleagues, who will hopefully not make fun of me too much behind my back while I'm gone. Cheers!

I will be away for a few days (family visit) but will soon return. Look for posts from the other contributors here. And have a great weekend!

Oh, and I added a few new stories to the previous post before I left. Good reading!

Still On Vacation

Now with color (is that better, TAG?)

Come to think of it, the Morgendorffers weren't much for vacations. During their three years in Lawndale, the closest thing they came to a vacation was their camping trip during "The Teachings of Don Jake". The Daria Diaries mention a canceled cruise vacation, but beyond that, nothing. Okay, Jake and Helen did enjoy their stay at Le Grande in the episode, "Fire!" and Quinn (with Fashion Club in tow) were almost treating it like an in-town vacation.

But really, was Helen that much of a workaholic? Or were there unseen trips to exotic locations with disastrous results that everyone agreed not to mention again?

Hmm, more story potential.
