Nice Sweater Vest, Jesse!

Jesse's adding "Fore" to "Yeah" and "Cool" in his four-letter-word vocabulary because today is Tiger Woods's birthday! I hope Jake gets a chance to hit the course today to celebrate, because he deserves every chance to relax he can get.

Don't tell Jake about this one, but it's also Bacon Day. Just let him play golf and let his cholesterol stay right where it is, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Are We Crazy Yet?, by Lexarius (part 3): "'Sure, Dad.' Daria held her cell phone between her shoulder and head, as she hung another few t-shirts in her walk-in closet."

  • Daria Enrolls at Nevermore: an experiment, by Meester_Lee (parts 6 and 7): "The three women from Georgetown accompanied Principal Weems and Miss Rosewood to a small dining room." (Part 7)

  • The Village (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria wasn't sure why she and Jane had decided to befriend the girl with the Swedish accent when they first got to Boston for their college years, but Ulla was so fascinating with her blond locks and her blue eyes and her knife collection and knowledge of pagan and occultic lore."

Lights! Camera! Humiliate!

Daria and Jane are about to immortalize you for National Short Film Day, so make sure they get your best side! (I know, they're both good.) Tom will likely refuse to participate, ever since his last film on Jane-Cam went viral.

Today is also National Tim Day, but I hope Mr. O'Neill doesn't expect people to celebrate it. I mean, if he can't remember anyone else's name half the time then why should they remember his? Fair's fair.

Maybe Daria is Part Cat!

Instead of either shopping or punching people, Daria has elected to spend Boxing Day by boxing...herself. Gotta say, of the three options this one sounds the most appealing to me, too. Throw in a good book and I'm set for the whole day!

This is also the first day of Kwanzaa, which the Gupty family...might...celebrate? Based on their owning a copy of Kaneesha's First Kwanzaa, anyway. With that group, I can't even guess.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Enrolls at Nevermore, by Meester_Lee (part 5): "Alder led Hopgood and the three women from Georgetown inside, leaving the cabbie in the small dining room that remained open after the end of Nevermore’s school year."

  • My Week At Lily's, by radiofox (part 1): "Lilith sat down on her double sized bed and scooped her phone into her nimble palm. She swiftly gripped the black iPhone and flopped onto the bed."

  • Song From An American Movie, by ladyevil (part 6): "Daria found herself on a stage in front of a muddled crowd of faceless people. Great, I’m having that nightmare about being naked in public again."

  • The Youngest Barksdale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5): "First class was Language Arts. 'And so, in The Sound and the Fury, Faulkner give us a veritable kaleidoscope of P.O.V.s -- points of view. Of course, the title itself is from Shakespeare. Can anyone tell me which of the Bard's tragedies?'"

The Clock is Ticking!

I see the Fashion Club is out in force for Last-Minute Shopper's Day, but as far as they're concerned it's always the right minute to shop. However, I think Quinn just made the mistake of telling them that, as it's also Christmas Eve, the point of the holiday is to shop for other people. Oops.

Today is also National Egg Nog Day, but be sure to check the date on the drink before you partake. The last thing you want to do is hallucinate a bunch of holidays escaped from Holiday Island.

"Sister, nuke the frozen bagel."

Looks like poor Helen just found out that no one wants to try her baking, even on National Date Nut Bread Day. Maybe if she'd ever shown any kind of aptitude at baking, we'd be more open to giving it a shot. As it is, I'd just as soon eat Jake's Kitchen Sink Stew.

Today is also National Short Person Day, and as both Daria and yours truly are the same height--five foot two inches--I hope everyone in fandom remembers to appreciate the little guys!

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Enrolls At Nevermore: An Experiment, by Meester_Lee (parts 3 and 4): "'Sirius!' said Harry. 'It’s good to talk to you!' He’d had trouble getting in touch with Sirius for the last several days. He’d been on missions for the Order and usually left his magical mirror behind." (Part 4)

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 51): "At first, a curious Anna Felicia just waited for her mother to speak to her from the other side of the world."

Know Any Singing Games?

Sir Mack is inviting anyone who's interested to join him in a game of poker for Games Day. I bet the Future Morgendorffers will take him up on it, but Present Jake might not--between Monopoly and Scrabble, he really doesn't do well with games.

This is also Go Caroling Day, but I think I'll pass. You haven't heard my singing voice (or lack thereof). Considering what we heard of much of the Daria characters in "Daria!" I think they might want to sit this one out, too.

Hanukkah Sameach!

Trent's revealing his previously-unknown Jewish roots in time for Hanukkah, which begins tonight at sunset! You know, Trent as a rabbi actually makes more sense when you realize the holidays begin in the evening rather than the morning. "The night holds the key."

Today is also Bake Cookies Day and, don't worry, Rita. The chocolate chips are already in them. Just try to remember to turn the oven on, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Enrolls At Nevermore: An Experiment, by Meester_Lee (part 1): "'So when is the last day of classes for you and Quinn?' asked Helen." (Part 2)

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 50): "At first, Ellie did not have to act anything, since she was quite shocked and surprised for real."

  • Sometimes Life Just Repeats... (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'So, kids,' Daria said to her children as she drove on the road, 'I know that it's difficult to adjust to a new town and a new school, but...'"

  • The Youngest Barksdale (Iron Chef: Daria The Youngest Barksdale), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 4): "Daria arrived at Lawndale High the second time to find Scarlett waiting for her. 'Scarlett?'"

Chocolate-Covered Regency Pastiches?

I absolutely respect Mrs. Johanssen's commitment to National Chocolate Covered Anything Day, but I think she'd be happier eating something covered in chocolate rather than being something covered in chocolate. I suppose this way is better for her health, though. Assuming she's able to breathe in there.

This is also the anniversary of Jane Austen's birth in 1775, and we'll join Austen-style Daria in wishing her the best of every promise with which the world offers up each gentle day. Whatever that means.

Watch Out For Vicious Dogs!

Awww, look how happy Mr. DeMartino is for National Postal Worker Day! You can tell this was a wise career change because he has such a big smile on his face. He was never this happy when he had to teach Kevin. Good for you, Mr. DeMartino!

Today is also Monkey Day, so let's all give a big hand to Charles Darwin for always letting Curious George get away with his shenanigans.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria and Quinn Morgendorffer, by kllngjk2 (COMPLETE!): "June 3, 2023. Tonight, Daria Morgendorffer and her sister Quinn are going to Lawndale Metrodome stadium to see a Florence + the Machine concert."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 10): "Daria dialed Farrah’s number and waited for someone to pick up. Was Farrah there? Would she answer? Would she be willing to talk to her, or would she just blow her off? She waited, hoping for the best while fearing the worst."

The Price is...Cool.

Let's join Jesse in wishing Bob Barker a happy 99th (!) birthday. Or at least that's as close as I'll guess and hopefully not go over. Incidentally, can you imagine Jesse as any kind of game show host? The small talk with contestants would be cringeworthy.

This is also National Ding-a-Ling Day, and Daria's favorite ding-a-ling Kevin is probably going to ask Mack to ring his little ice cream truck bell.

And then he will immediately regret it.

The Customer is Often Wrong

Hang in there, Theresa! If the Fashion Club is trying your patience, just remind them that it's National Salesperson Day and I'm sure they'll start treating you with the same respect they give everyone else. Which is zero.

Today is also National Corey Day, so today is your day, Corey! Get out there and ask Quinn out! And then she'll laugh in your face and go back to tormenting Theresa!

Hey, maybe Corey should just ask Theresa out. Could be a perfect match, right?

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 9): "'That’s a problem,' said Daria. She sighed and returned to her Dad’s office. Her Dad was talking with one of his bosses when she came back."

  • Daria s big wedding, by ludma (COMPLETE!): "Big dining hall. Classical music on air. Big wedding."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 49): "It took a good time of wandering through the peaceful streets and gardens of the wealthiest area of Grindelwald, a few of the inhabitants threw curious looks at them every now and then and the alpine winds were getting a lot colder, but eventually Anna Coulthard discovered exactly the place that she had been so desperate to find."

Maybe Get Some Earmuffs?

I see Mr. Matthews has already celebrated Take it in the Ear Day, or perhaps one of the canaries celebrated it for him. Regardless, I really think he needs to consider a career change. Before he starts losing more vital parts.

This is also National Christmas Tree Day, so either get out there and cut down an innocent evergreen or pull the artificial one out of storage. I'm still amused that the Morgendorffers store their Christmas tree fully assembled and pre-decorated. That's either lazy or genius or both and I love it.

Today is also the anniversary of the Altamont Free Concert in 1969. It may have ended tragically, but at least Jake got a full refund. Somehow.

Fanfic Update!
  • A's fifteen minutes of shame, by ludma (COMPLETE!): "The coolest girl on the planet is in my class. She 's got a psychic who's pretty cool too, but she's bad ass."

  • The nap police, by ludma (COMPLETE!): "My best friend Daria, in our favorite pizza place! Thinner ans paler, but still alive!"

Mmm...Sock Cookies....

I don't think either Jane or Daria is particularly enjoying National Sock Day, but I guess that's not too surprising. Considering the sock came from the laundry room, I don't imagine that it smells very pleasant.

I have to say, if Jane ever wanted to participate in Play Basketball Day (not that she would, since she isn't a joiner and hates manufactured holidays), then playing as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters is absolutely the way she'd do it. I suspect Mack will sit this one out, lest anyone tease him about his middle name.

This is also World Computer Literacy Day, so ask "one of the cuter technical types" to teach you how to set up a website or go viral on social media or even just get logged into your e-mail. All depends on your current level of expertise.

Fanfic Update!
  • And Sandi Makes Three, by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Tom Sloane was seated at his ornately decorated desk going over his paperwork. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Tom looked up." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Are We Crazy Yet?, by Lexarius (part 2): "'Uncle Fester, you have to stay!' Gomez Addams exclaimed, 'The whole family must welcome our new guest. We must make a good first impression!'"

  • Hair Dye, by ah_shit (COMPLETE!): "Quinn walked into Daria's room holding a phone. 'It's your weird friend,' was all she said as she dropped the phone on her sisters bed."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 48): "Anna just blinked as the awful Dark Star dungeon vanished in her flash of white light, for a timeless instant there was nothing and then reality came back all around her in the form of a wild, vast and dazzling landscape of unspeakable beauty."

Rumors Of His Birthday Have NOT Been Greatly Exaggerated!

Daria's ready to wish Mark Twain a happy birthday, as the satirist was born on this day in 1835. I don't know what Twain would have thought of Huckleberry Hound, but I'm sure his commentary would have been sharp and spot-on.

Today is also National Personal Space Day, which Daria will also be celebrating. Just as she does every day. Even when Mr. O'Neill makes it difficult.

I see that Mr. O'Neill has taken Make Your Own Head Day literally, and it remains to be seen whether or not his new head is an improvement over the old one. I'm pretty sure this one is just as empty as the old one, though, so don't get your hopes up.

This is also Red Planet Day, so what better day to find some atomic communists from Mars? You know, Reds from the Red Planet?

Fanfic Update!
  • Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 7): "Daria awoke early. She wondered what was happening with the Doctor’s investigation. She looked out at the TARDIS, before wandering over to her closet."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 8): "The following morning Daria decided that however grim the lack of creature comforts at her Dad’s worksite were, she did not want to spend another day at her Mom’s law office. She decided to make her thoughts known at breakfast."

  • Market Value, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Kevin, Jamie, Jim, Chuck, Tony, Rev. Li, Tom and the guy with too much jewelry were seated at a conference table. At the head of the table sits a skinny red-haired man in a business suit with a laptop." (Part 3)

  • God, Guns and Killer Dogs, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Kevin was waiting in line to have his driver's license renewed. He noticed the guy in front of him is wearing a dark blue cap. The guy was incredibly muscular with a long mullet and a biker mustache." (Part 2)

If Daria and Jane want to celebrate Go For a Ride Day then they'll need to actually enter the car. However, given Tom's questionable taste in vehicles, it might be better if they stay outside. And I won't even get into the problematic history of Daria getting into Tom's car as it is.

Maybe Let the Runner Take a Shower First

I don't think Daria's going to go for International Hug a Runner Day, but it might not be because she thinks Jane has sold out her ideals or because she's jealous of the quality time she's lost out on with her best friend. Have you considered that maybe Jane just finished a race and she might not smell particularly...huggable?

Today is also Future Teachers of America Day, and I'm sure Mr. DeMartino will be telling every potential teacher to run away as fast as they possibly can. That said, I still think that Kevin could, under certain circumstances, become a good teacher. He likes kids and he's got a good heart. All he needs to do is become smarter than a grade schooler!

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 23): "Greetings from the Oregon Trail! Our Company has just crossed one of the worst obstacles we have yet encountered on our journey to our new home. We have crossed Rocky Ridge."

  • The New Prime Minister (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "Daria Morgendorffer-Black sat in her office reviewing letters from her constituents."

  • Stranger Without Time, by radiofox (part 7): "Inside a brown bricked house near the cast forests of Lawndale, Anna was beginning her morning as usual..."

No Prince Charmings Need Apply

Daria is (rather uncharacteristically) celebrating National Princess Day, but I bet she's only doing it to make Quinn angry. She's even wearing her sister's signature color! Clearly she's using the pretty pretty princess getup as a psychological weapon. Classic Daria.

Of course, Quinn is probably getting revenge by living well at Chez Pierre for National Vichyssoise Day. Whether or not she can pronounce "Vichyssoise" is anyone's guess. Who else thinks she's going to complain that it's cold, too?

I'd Like an Order of Things, Please!

I see Daria and Jane are wasting no time in celebrating National Fast Food Day, and I hope it goes without saying that, yes, they do want fries with that. The question is, do they want regular or cheese fries?

  • Brittany Does Museums (Iron Chef: Brittany's Got Artistic Talent), by Meester_Lee (part 1): "When Daria enrolled at Lawndale High, she assumed that scheduling would be much like they’d been at Highland: Classes, teachers, gym, idiot students, and the inevitable football games."

  • Daria in Les Enfants Terribles, by Pre-Animation Man (COMPLETE!): "Upchuck takes the exit ramp too fast and they have to swerve to miss a half-ton box truck wheeling out of the Sears service driveway as the Mazda merges onto Duckworth, exit eight, Lawndale."

  • Song From An American Movie, by Lady Evil (part 4): "The next day, after school, Daria, Jane and Alfred were walking to Jane’s house. 'You seriously invited homeless people to your house?' Daria asked."

Today is also International Tongue Twister Day, and everybody say it with me: "Welcome to It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty World. We're just nuts about nuts. Crunch nuts with your lunch. • Are We the Fools for Being Surprised?, by Pre-Animation Man (COMPLETE!): "College is exactly what Daria imagined it would be, while managing to be completely and utterly different."

Today is also National Greasy Foods Day, so perhaps Quinn will favor us with a delightful aria about greasy fries!

Finally, this is both International Artist Day and National Fine Art Appreciation Day, so Jane can enjoy a double-whammy of art holidays today! Not that she needs an excuse to celebrate art, of course.

Now THAT'S Mental in the Morning

Daria and Jane look way too chipper about TV Talk Show Host Day, especially because I never expected to describe either of them as "chipper" at all. I really hope that their show is actually the anti-morning show, with snark and dark humor and all of the things we love about that duo.

This is also Slap Your Annoying Coworker Day, but Ms. Barch has taken it much further than that on multiple occasions. Mr. O'Neill had better watch out if Mr. DeMartino hears about this holiday!

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 29): "It had been a very cold, eerily silent and peaceful night at the Morgendorffer house so far."

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 15): "Earl returned from his conversation with Captain Trout looking a bit rattled. 'You look shook up,' I said. 'Are you all right?'"

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 45): "All of Lawndale was cold and silent like a graveyard, it was not even an hour into the first curfew so far and Anna, now back home and standing at the living hall alone, knew that she could not have taken more than twenty minutes or so in her casual adventure out there."

  • On The Other Side Of The Mirror, by radiofox (parts 1 - 11): "'Do you think this mirror looks nice?' Quinn asked." (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8) (Part 9) (Part 10) (Part 11)

Ribbit!

Either Kevin pissed off the wrong witch or he's celebrating American Frog Day in the most hardcore way possible. I have to say, a frog with a goofy grin sitting on a football is a pretty damn American frog. All it needs is some apple pie.

Today is also the anniversary of the (unsuccessful) attempt to psychically levitate the Pentagon, an attempt that Jake and his hippie friends either were present for or tried to emulate. Either way, all he got for his trouble was a broken foot. It was a good try, Jake!

A Red Letter Day in Daria History!

Looks like Daria and Jane are just about to observe National New Friends Day, which is an especially remarkable event for Daria. It might be the first and only time in her life that she'll celebrate this particular holiday. That may sound sad, but honestly it's probably what she'd prefer.

This is also Evaluate Your Life Day, the day that Jake says you should "walk away. You change your name, move to another state, get some ID. It's not too late to start over, Daria, it's not too late! You're still a young man! You don't have to live with your mistakes! Get out while you can!" I'm sure that's a normal reaction, right?

Fanfic Update!
  • Burned Out, by Wrabbit7 (part 27): "As they drove along the nearly abandoned highway leading out of Lawndale, Jennifer patted her legs in time and sang along with the song on the radio."

  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 28): "Far from the stars and the ethereal realms, so far from the monsters and green fire there was a happy place called Lawndale, where the forest was safe and the wolves did not speak, just a sweet and peaceful town that most people there loved to call home."

  • Illness of the Cynic Chick, by cfardellbrenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Brittany approached Daria’s hospital room. (She wasn’t sure what to make of the orderly’s references to ‘Mrs. Sullivan’.)"

  • Reasons To Call Her, by radiofox (COMPLETE!): "Eric walked to the nearest phone booth, payed and dialed Helen's phone number. He tried calling his brothers but they didn't answer. He was stuck calling his employee to pick him up after a car crash."

Serve Up Some Gaudy Pasta!

I see that the Fashion Club and their friends have decided to celebrate Wear Something Gaudy Day, unless too-long bottoms and boxy tops are in these days. I am the opposite of plugged in when it comes to fashion trends, so your guess is as good as mine!

Today is also National Pasta Day, so dive right into some penne a la pesto a la Jake before it oxidizes! Or you could play it safe with some frozen lasagna if you (very sensibly) don't trust Jake's cooking.

Beautiful on the Outside, Sleazy on the Inside

Dr. Shar is pleased to tell everyone that today is National Aesthetician Day, and she can make every single one of you look like Quinn for a reasonable twenty thousand dollars. What a bargain!

This is also National Motorcycle Ride Day, but please don't try to pop a wheelie unless you're a professional. I don't care how many times you saw it on CHiPs, Kevin!

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 26 and 27): "Even the nature of gravity itself, daylight and the very flow of time as well were all strange and somewhat different in that place." (Part 27)

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (parts 13 and 14): "'Earl? What the Hell are you doing here?' I said. He tilted his head sheepishly. My God is he actually blushing?" (Part 14)

If Only She'd Been Aware a Little Earlier

Aww, look how happy Erin is on her wedding day! She might even be able to forget that today is National Herpes Awareness Day and she's stuck with that arrogant jerk Brian for the rest of her life. Or until she can bump him off and make it look like an accident.

Today is also National M&M Day, but don't worry, Jane. You don't have to celebrate the blue ones if you don't want to.

Don't Fear Parties!

Daria and Jane need to stand firm, because it's National Face Your Fears Day and they can't just run away from what scares them. Unless what scares them is Quinn offering a makeover, in which case run! Run now!

Today is also It’s My Party Day, so invite over some friends and throw a big party! In my case, the "friends" are "books" and "big party" is "time spent reading." Enjoy!

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 25): "The world had vanished into a distant and ghostly realm all around her, everything was almost colorless and gray, it was just as cold as the darkest nights of winter and Quinn Morgendorffer could hardly believe what was actually happening to her."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 7): "The rest of Daria’s day at her mother’s office was less eventful. Her Mom did invite her into her office and join her while she worked."

  • The Engineer and the Time Lady, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 16): "'Nina to Baffin, I'm returning to the TARDIS.' 'Acknowledged,' Aialah said."

  • Harry Potter Morgendorffer, by Meester_Lee (parts 35 and 36): "Bobby sat staring at the telephone and the card he had in his hand. Should he or shouldn’t he? This really bothered him and it wasn’t something he could talk over with Mom or with a girl." (Part 36)

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 44): "It was true that the house of the Morgendorffer family was not quite comparable to the largest residences in Lawndale, and yet it was indeed one of the newest, most original and also most beautiful houses in that part of the town."

  • Illness of the Cynic Chick, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "After Jane and her brother (as she had realised) had left looking for Daria, Brittany also left. It had been an exhausting night, but when she looked in her bedroom mirror before changing she found that she quite liked what she saw there."

  • Surprise Parentage (Iron Chef: Jane's real father), by radiofox (part 1): "'I brought the photo album for our project.' Kevin called as his voice raidated through the Casa Lane kitchen."

Fireman Trent Needs to Stay Awake!

Looks like someone started a fire in one of the rooms without a fireplace, but it's Fire Prevention Day and Trent is on the case. For now. Please, just don't mention moths to him until the fire is out, okay?

Today is also Curious Events Day, so keep your eyes open to watch for weird events like lights in the trees, atomic communists from Mars, or Trent playing cheerful music. Stay alert, people!

Remember to Smile While You Sing!

Daria needs to stop celebrating World Smile Day right now. Please. Just stop smiling before we all freak out completely.

Today is also Kids Music Day, so everyone sing with me: "I am cool and that is it, and everyone else is full of, full of, full of...."

Fanfic Update!
  • Another Pie, by ywhiterain (COMPLETE!): "'All I'm saying,' Tom said, 'is I'm just not sure what king of self respecting dictator would take over Lawndale of all the places in the entire world.'"

  • Cafés are Most Romantic on Wednesdays, by radiofox (COMPLETE!): "Tiffany looked in her mirror, eyes with a slight shimmer and slight smile as she applied her favourite lip gloss. After dating Terry for 8 months she had finally decided to stick up for herself."

  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 24): "It was a sad and gloomy afternoon after all the classes had ended that late October day at Lawndale High, the gardens and trees everywhere in campus were now lashed by snowy wind coming from the mountains and the weather would soon be quite below the freezing point."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 6): "Daria’s eyes widened as she watched Mrs. Flores’ coffee stirring itself."

  • Illness of the Cynic Chick, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "It may be said that a massive change of events may start by something which would otherwise be insignificant changing. For instance; Brittany Taylor upon being invited to the Zon, Zone or Zen Nightclub by a boy named Terry, or Jerry, deciding to ask her stepmother for help dying her hair instead of doing it herself."

  • Resident of the United States (Daria and the Gang Thread II), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "Bluntly put, when Daria Morgendorffer ran for president - if you could call it that - no one paid much attention."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by wacokid (COMPLETE!): "'What's wrong?' Daria asked. 'I'm not sure,' Jane replied as the two sat waiting for class to start. 'Something's off today. But I just can't put my finger on it.'"

  • Why Daria No Longer Listens to Marilyn Manson (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by SPEEDCOREIDOLATER (COMPLETE!): "'I’m not gonna go through this again.' Jane groaned, rubbing her temples and mussing up her hair. 'In the first four tracks, he’s The Worm and all he cares about is fitting in, right? But after -"

Hooray for Teachers!

Mr. DeMartino and Mrs. Bennett are stunned to learn that today is World Teacher’s Day, and I don't blame them. It's not like they're accustomed to being appreciated in even the most token ways.

Today is also International Walk to School Day, which as far as I can tell was every school day for Daria and Jane. I hope they thank their teachers when they arrive! Someone ought to.

Because His Ego Wasn't Big Enough Already?

I see the whole team has gotten in on celebrating National Kevin Day, but as far as Kevin is concerned every day is all about him. Just don't tell Mr. DeMartino about the holiday...I'm not sure he would survive the angry outburst.

Today is also Mean Girls Day, and I have no doubt that the Fashion Club has this one covered. As usual.

Fanfic Update!
  • All American Rejects, by Lady Evil (part 6): "Upchuck didn’t find the 1985 California Raisins posable erasers from Burger World he was looking for. However, he did find a booth selling non-posable PVC figurines, including the ones Hardee’s gave away in 1988 and a four foot Michael Jackson raisin going for the ripe price of ten dollars."

  • Bravo Zulu - A Lawndale High Story, by benson (part 4): "As Jane and Kevin wandered about the campus, putting together their ideas, the first school buses started to arrive."

  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 21 - 23): "The fallen leaves were flying in a cold October wind, it was a quite silent and peaceful morning at Lawndale, countless ravens were flying between the parks and trees and Ella Anne looked up to admire how the vast open sky was just starting to get all cloudy and gray." (Part 22) (Part 23)

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 43): "Lawndale and all of Pennsylvania, just like virtually everywhere else in the United States of America, soon descended into angst, almost anarchy and severe chaos after the presidential address had been interrupted by these unknown terrorists known as Vail of Angst."
