Happy Turkey Day to Everyone in the U.S.!

Looks like Pilgrim Quinn will be missing out on the Thanksgiving feast, but I don't suppose it's a great loss. It's not like she was going to have anything aside from a few carrot sticks and maybe a long sniff of pumpkin pie.

If she does feel like having a snack later, she could always celebrate National Cashew Day. As Jake says, they are a first-class nut! Not like those wannabe peanuts.

Finally, happy anniversary to this very blog, which first went online on this day in 2007. Sixteen years later, it's still going and old enough to get its driver's license!

Fanfic Update!

The BC QB

Don't worry, Kevin. Now that it's Evolution Day I'm sure your development will finally start moving forward. Soon you might even progress to cave drawings!

In the meantime, maybe he could club a turkey for us since it's also Thanksgiving. You know, the holiday for a lot of screwed-up family problems and getting depressed by the end of the day? Jane probably has her TV dinner in the microwave as we speak.

Fanfic Update!
  • God, Guns and Killer Dogs, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Kevin was waiting in line to have his driver's license renewed. He noticed the guy in front of him is wearing a dark blue cap. The guy was incredibly muscular with a long mullet and a biker mustache." (Part 2)

  • Market Value, by wilddogjj (part 1): "It's Thanksgiving and Jim and Kevin were standing in the driveway enjoying the cool November air."

Giving Thanks...For Peace and Quiet

Looks like Quinn's not having a great Thanksgiving, but on the bright side the Morgendorffers' holiday table will be much more peaceful. Until the in-laws show up, that is.

Here are a few Thanksgiving-themed Daria fics, although it's not an exhaustive list. If you know some that I've left out, please post them in the comments!

Fanfic Update!
  • Beach Party Invitation, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Daria Morgendorffer approached the counter with trepidation. She didn’t know what the cafeteria staff were serving up today."

  • Bobbie Caller: College Years, by meesterlee (part 1): "The Texas school year isn’t like that of other states. Some places have the stereotypical start-up either when fall is in the air or when it’s starting to cool down."

  • Daria and Quinn, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Teddy's room did not look like an eight-year-old boy's room." (Part 3)

  • Daria in the Background (IC : Daria doesn't need glasses), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "After distracting Kevin from the chips, Brittany again looked for Daria. She soon found her in a corner. ‘Of course!’ She went over to her. 'Daria?'"

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 47 - 49): "So. Valentine’s Day cards? Where to find them? Valentine’s Day was coming up and Daria wondered who might have them." (Part 48) (Part 49)

  • Fizzled Out, by Erin M. (part 4): "'Are you sure you really want to do this?' Tom asked as he and Jane walked down the abandoned hallways of Lawndale High towards the auditorium."

  • this be the chorus, by clytemnestras (COMPLETE!): "Trent may be slumped against the kitchen door like his bones were always supposed to fall that way, but Jane knows he's keeping his back to her on purpose."

  • Wheat Thinsgiving, by breitasparrow (COMPLETE!): "It was Thanksgiving week, and unlike most years, Jake decided he wanted to deep-fry a turkey Wednesday night."

Here's Looking at You, Kiddo

Trent and Daria are re-creating the iconic final scene from the movie Casablanca, which premiered on this day in 1942. I like this alter ego, if only because as an anti-shipper I know that it means Daria's about to go far, far away from Trent. Yay!

Of course, let's not forget that in the United States, today is also Thanksgiving! You can either eat until you drop or try to cope with your messed-up family problems; your choice. Whatever you do, save room for dessert because today is also National Cake Day. I know that pie is traditional on Thanksgiving, but come on: who's going to turn down cake?

Fanfic Update!
  • Brittany - Party Time, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Donna saw Andrea come into the kitchen. 'You’re here. Good,' she said."

  • Life Goes On: A Christmas Special, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Daria: 'I can't believe I'm freezing my ass off in front of a suburban elementary school.' Jane: 'Daria, it's a light December snowfall, not the harsh January blizzard we endured on that ill fated mountain excursion back in high school.'"

  • Therefore I Am, by atiyatortilla (COMPLETE!): "Thanksgiving wasn’t a holiday that Jane cared about. She loved gorging herself with food as much as the next person but, after having to endure an entire day with her family, turkey was no reward."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Lady Evil (COMPLETE!): "As Jesse slowly approached Ruttheimer manor, he reminded himself why he was doing this. It was for Jane and Daria, who didn’t deserve to be enslaved by a madman."

A Day For Screwed-up Family Problems and Getting Depressed By the End of the Day

Looks like the Morgendorffers have gone for a fully traditional pilgrim Thanksgiving, unless Quinn just pissed Daria off once too many. For fans in the United States, have a happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your tryptophan coma! In the meantime, enjoy this list of Thanksgiving-themed Daria fanfics and feel free to add any I've missed in the comments. Fanfic Update!
  • Fates Entwined, by Deep Metal (COMPLETE!): "Dear Diary, I always did want to start one of those online blogs but restoring the internet to Lawndale is taking a bit longer than expected. So until then, this will have to do."

  • Gummy Bears (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Saga Goes On), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "It was a bright and sunny day in the magic woods."

  • The Hallowed Halls of Fielding, by Roentgen (part 175): "Elsie was never happy about the bread. For the last few weeks, she and Julie Regan had been having brunch at Italian Labs, a new bistro that had opened in Swedesville. The excuse Elsie had was that she had wanted to learn to cook."

  • Sandi's Wonderful Life (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Quinn, Stacy, Lindy and Sandi are seated at the kitchen table working on decorations for an upcoming Christmas party. Quinn, Stacy and Lindy are visibly happy while Sandi looks miserable. Quinn: 'Thanks for helping me set up for my Christmas Eve party.'"

That's One Way to Stop Quinn from Shopping

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the posters in the U. S.! Whether you're stuffing your face, watching football, or alone with a TV dinner, I hope the holiday is enjoyable and free of screwed-up family problems that leave you depressed by the end of the day.

If you need a break from the food and family, how about some Thanksgiving-themed fanfic?

And if that isn't enough fanfic for you, about about today's...

Fanfic Update!
  • The Dale of Lawn Book 2, by Wassersauefer (part 2): "'You are the lady in waiting for my bride, you pretty little thing you, aren't you?' It was not a question, not really, and instead of answering she blushed and tried to keep her head down, though she felt the urge to push a dagger into his heart. Or his neck. Or his lungs. Or just his eyes."

  • Different Tracks, by ognawk (part 1): "'Well, you're sort of a sports star now. It's not so cool to be hanging around with... you know, losers.' Jane thought about it for a moment. She had been a lot more popular with people lately, and much to her surprise, she didn't hate it. In fact, she kind of liked it."

  • Fear and Loathing in Law Enforcement, by LongSnakeMoan (part 1): "Flashing green eyes stared up from under a fringe of pink red hair, her mouth twisted in contempt. Oh, he was going to have fun with this one."

  • Jane's Rack (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by PrecambrianStudios (COMPLETE!): "'Hey, Daria,' Jane said to her friend, who was lazily reclining on her living room couch. 'Quick question.' 'Five, four, three-' 'Wanna see my rack?'"

  • The Man Next Door, by SacredDust (part 3): "Amanda once heard that there were two kinds of people: those who were taught that the world was a safe place, and those who were taught that the world was a scary place. She was the first kind."

  • Paying Respects (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2013!), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "'I only met him a couple of times. His people… I butted heads with them a few times, during my days when I was working out of Lackland. I tried my hardest to stay the hell out of Texas when I could. People like J.R. Ewing get uncomfortable when people like me show up unexpectedly, or decide to move into the neighborhood.'"

  • The Punk and the Snark, by Shiva (part 14): "'We're stranded in a cabin in the middle of nowhere with our classmates, the only teacher still here has wrapped herself up in a stolen sleeping bag and is still turning blue, the other ones walked out into the middle of an ice storm to get help.'"

  • Rude Awakening: The Holidays in NE are just as crazy!, by DIsaac (part 1): "STACY: (sounding suspicious) What do you mean you are not hosting the family for Christmas? SUSIE: Well, Mom and Dad want to break tradition and they want to hold it at your house for some weird reason this year."

  • Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2013!), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "Chloe took a long glance at the tall redhead. 'Continuing. So, we're all watching this sex-ed film, and-' She stopped talking as she noticed how Jodie, Sandi and Stacy suddenly seemed to lose their appetites – and the other Legionnaires actually slowed their assault on the dinner table for a few moments."

  • Sleep to Dream Him (Shorty Shorts), by ognawk (COMPLETE!): "It was Saturday morning, and Jane was sat alone in one of Lawndale's local coffee shops. It was busy in there, and she was thankful to get somewhere to sit as she read the Arts section of the Lawndale Herald and sipped on her coffee. A man approached the table, but Jane focussed on her paper."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by Jim North (COMPLETE!): "'Yeah, but what I'm trying to say is, like, we've got all these memories and hopes and dreams and everything, and they're all made up of these chemicals and bioelectric thingamajiggies in our brains, right? Primal instincts and maybe even conscious thought melding together into human personality? Something like that.'"

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Hey Mom?' Daria spoke up while tugging on her mother's pant leg. 'Yes, dear?' Helen replied, turning off her holoband and glancing down at her three year old daughter."

  • X-Mas (Daria and the Gang Thread), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "Sandi, for some inexplicable reason, was holding an orange. A demon whispered in Jane's ear, and she smiled."

  • The Zapper (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2013!), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "'Not realistic - but we learned how to do something similar. Have you ever heard of a "railgun?' 'Of course. One of the better weapons in movies, but they don't work in real life.' 'Uh-huh.' 'Paula...?'"

Celebrating a Lot of Screwed Up Family Problems and Getting Depressed by the End of the Day

Happy Thanksgiving! Daria is thankful she finally has something to eat that isn't frozen lasagna. I'm thankful for fanfic, so here's a list of Thanksgiving stories that you may enjoy:

Gobble, Gobble!

Happy Thanksgiving! Unless you live in a country where it isn't Thanksgiving, of course. The rest of us can stuff our faces until we fall asleep, aside from Quinn there, who (I'm guessing) pissed Daria off once too often.

Charles RB reminds me that Daria made a brief appearance in a Thanksgiving issue of the Beavis and Butt-head comic in 1994, in which she teaches the two the real meaning of Thanksgiving.

Okay, not really. But here's a list of Thanksgiving-related Daria fanfic that, even if it's not particularly meaningful, should be fairly entertaining. Enjoy!

Who Wants Some Turkey?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who live in the United States, and Happy Fourth Thursday of November to all of you who do not! Whether you're hanging out alone with a TV dinner, getting depressed by the end of the day over your screwed-up family problems, or wondering what's up with our fascination with eating canned cranberry sauce once a year, I thought you might enjoy this list of Thanksgiving-related Daria fanfics.

Gobble, gobble!

TURKEY TIME!

Thanksgiving might be a stressed-out teen with family issues on Holiday Island, but here in the USA it is a time for being with your family even when they drive you totally insane. A lot of Daria fanfic has been written with a Thanksgiving theme, and here it is. Enjoy your drumstick!

And a visual bonus: the Daria cast at the original Thanksgiving party, by Robin Sena.

If you insist on a fashionable turkey for your dinner, the one at right should be perfect.

We give Daria the last word.

Have fun!

Cranberry Sauce, Apple Pie, Mashed Potatoes...

Before we continue, Daria has a few words to say about the joys of Thanksgiving: click here. Heh, heh.

More fanfics with a Thanksgiving theme (at least in part, in some cases):

ENJOY!

When Only the Most Fashionable Fowl Will Do

Sandi is back to remind us that only the most fashionable turkeys should be cooked for this great holiday. Okay, I couldn't find a Daria-type picture of the turkey, so I used this one. It's a bird, so what.

Some of the great fanfics that have featured Thanksgiving as a theme include:

Hope you remembered to defrost the bird, but if not, there's always the microwave.

Giving Thanks for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving may have been a stressed-out teen with family issues on Holiday Island, but here in the USA it is a time for being with your family even when they drive you totally insane. A lot of Daria fanfic has been written with a Thanksgiving theme, and some of these will be named and honored today in subsequent posts. Stay tuned for more.

Quick Note: According to one fanfic, this was the day Daria and Jane passed their self-esteem class in "Esteemsters." Hmmm.
