Ms. Li is horrified to find that today is Friday the 13th, or maybe she just realized that she forgot to feed the bomb-sniffing dogs. Either way, keep in mind that today is also Defy Superstition Day, so go ahead and cross a black cat's path and walk under a ladder if you feel like it.

Today is also International Chocolate Day, so it's possible that Ms. Li just caught someone eating unauthorized chocolate. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Fanfic Update!
  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 10): "'Here.' Clarissa said, giving Link a wrapped gift. 'I hope you like it. Happy birthday.' 'Thanks.' said Link. He decided he'd better be a polite party host. 'Want some party mix?' 'I can't.' said Clarissa. 'Nut allergy.'"

  • What You Deserve, by atiyatortilla (part 1): "Memory was a fickle thing. Daria Quinn Morgendorffer knew this better than most."

Does It Still Count as "Guest" Blogging?

Hey, remember that time I took over the Daria Fandom Blog II temporarily as guest blogger while The Angst Guy took some time off? Because it was exactly nine years ago today. I'm sure TAG will be back any day now. Any day.

Today is also Teddy Bear Day, so if you've been meaning to trade a bear for a mouse in order to steal your boyfriend back from a couple of scheming sisters, then...I think you should seek professional help. Just my opinion.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 20): "It seemed that wherever she went, Daria Morgendorffer couldn't get away from those fucking pigeons and their incessant noise. Maybe they were following her. Yes, that sounded like about her luck."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 14): "Once Daniel had a shower and changed back, he headed toward the exit of the school. He couldn't wait to go home. His plan, however, shipwrecked miserably when he heard Jodie call him."

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 28): "Erin and Brenda returned Dennis to the offices of Boston Products. Dennis ducked his head back into the car, 'Excellent work, Ladies. Is it the same time tomorrow?' Erin checked her schedule, 'I'm afraid so, Dennis.'"

  • The Funeral, by LadieTAG (COMPLETE!): "I looked over at the business's sign just as Google Maps said 'Your destination is on the right'."

Beer and Football! A Winning Combination!

I think Jesse's loving beer just a little too much for National Beer Lover's Day, but perhaps he's just trying to hide from the sound of Kevin singing that stupid 99 Bottles of Beer song yet again.

Speaking of Kevin's favorite things, today is also the fortieth anniversary of ESPN. Then again, Kevin might prefer the Pigskin Channel, since ESPN has a bad habit of broadcasting non-football sports on occasion.

You Had ONE JOB!

Daria and Tom are very disappointed that they ordered what appears to be cheeseless pizza on Cheese Pizza Day. For shame, you two. For shame.

Today is also Be Late for Something Day, so maybe the cheese just hasn't arrived yet. I would say that this is Trent's kind of holiday, except that Trent is generally late for everything.

Fanfic Update!
  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 13): "What a great way to end the day. Daniel thought sarcastically as he changed into the locker room. P.E had always been his sworn enemy."

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 9): "'Well, it's been a week since I had any bad dreams.' Link said at one of his therapy sessions with Dr. Becky. 'I haven't stolen anything since Jake told me not to. And at Thanksgiving I didn't hit Quinn with a pie, even though I really, really wanted to. I Don't Think He's Quite Right in...The Head!

The Backgrounder known as "The Head" is finally getting his turn in the spotlight, because today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the TV show The Head. All we know about this character is that he's a fan of the show and he (allegedly) has low self-esteem. He actually seemed pretty enthusiastic in class, which is surprising given that his teacher was Mr. O'Neill. Weird.

Maybe Take It a Little Easy on the Wine, Though

Jane and Alison are enjoying National Red Wine Day, but Jake will stick to his usual martini. Helen will have whatever's available if she has to deal with either of her sisters for more than five minutes.

Today is also the anniversary of Leo Tolstoy's birth in 1828, which would probably be of interest to Aunt Amy. She did spend a lot of time "reading those weird Russian novels," after all.

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (parts 7 and 8): "Matthew Stearne pulled in to the Bagpiper's parking lot. He didn't like the apartment complex; It was old, beat-up, and he didn't like his neighbors." (Part 8)

  • F is for..., by JAS (parts 2 - 4): "As the hot water flowed over her body, Quinn slowly felt herself to calm down. Warmth of the water drove away the coldness from within her. Now, awake and with the lights on, her nightmare seemed.. Well, a nightmare." (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 8): "'Daria....' Helen's voice sang out in the morning. 'Hm...wha?' she muttered. "Goway. Saturday." Daria rolled over. 'Daria, I'm sorry to wake you.' said Helen."

  • Harry Potter Morgendorffer, by Meester_Lee (part 34): "Daria's discovery of her magical powers had another consequence, one that she was aware of, but had previously left HJ to deal with alone: Support Group."

  • The Lion Meets the Mouse, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "That night, Stacy picked at her dinner as usual and then asked to be excused to make a phone call. 'Make it quick,' Brenda instructed her. Stacy looked up the Griffins' phone number and dialed it before she could lose her nerve."

This sad little bulldog is hoping that Daria will refrain from trying to run him over with the car in honor of National Dog Day, but with her peripheral vision I wouldn't count on it. I just hope there's a puppy heaven to go along with kitty heaven.

In what had better be a coincidence, today also happens to be Women's Equality Day, to commemorate the Nineteenth Amendment being added to the United States Constitution on this day in 1920. This gave women the right to vote, but whether or not that translated into automatic equality is a matter for debate.

"No one will ever accuse these kids of being Reds!"

Jake's doing his part to enforce the Communist Control Act, which passed on this day in 1954. Melody Powers, meanwhile, will be taking a much more...proactive...role in enforcing the law.

Today is also International Strange Music Day, so this would be a good time to find out whether Trent is beckoning to a U.F.O., attempting to save humanity from aliens, or just writing a jingle.

Fanfic Update!
  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 12): "Jodie had begun to list various extracurricular activities when the bell rang. This saved Daniel, but only temporarily."

  • Daria in Capeside, by sonofapreacherman (COMPLETE!): "The Morgendorffers were on a road trip up the east coast, heading towards Maine. Jake took a wrong turn somewhere in Massachusetts. They were about to ask for directions when the car broke down."

  • The Lion Meets the Mouse, by Kristen Bealer (parts 2 and 3): "The rest of the day passed slowly, but Stacy began to pick up on a few things while she was supposed to be learning about multiplying fractions and the difference between a simile and a metaphor." (Part 3)

  • Never Again, by OzFerret (COMPLETE!): "Hot blood pumped through her fingers. Running down to cake her in filth."

  • Teaching is a work of heart, by Rémi (part 21): "Casa Lane. Jane's room. Jane is creating a sculpture by glueing together various items, while Quinn is seated on her bed. But the atmosphere between them is awkward. Jane isn't working with her usual spirit, and Quinn isn't prattling."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Saga Goes On), by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "The bell rang and a veritable stampede broke through the front doors of Lawndale High, hooting and cheering. Daria and Jane followed behind them at a more leisurely pace."

  • Windy City, by elainefr (COMPLETE!): "'Buy you a drink?' She didn't bother looking to see who it was. She simply signaled for another after finishing the one that she had."

"Oh, go dance on the head of a pin."

I don't know whom Daria and Jane think they're fooling, but at least they're trying to fit in on Be an Angel Day. I'm sure Quinn's guardian angel will be around, too, unless he's too busy playing his string thing.

Today is also the anniversary of Dorothy Parker's birth in 1893, which is worth mentioning because I strongly believe that she and Daria would have gotten along very well. With Parker's gift for satire and wisecracks, it would be a perfect match!

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 11): "Thank goodness it's over. Daniel thought when he walked out from the classroom. Mrs. Barch's voice was unbearable, even when she didn't scream."

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 7): "Daria lay on her bed looking through a gaming catalogue from Game Dash. She had a good idea what to get Link for his birthday. Trouble was, most of these systems were pretty pricey."

  • The Lion Meets the Mouse, by Kristen Bealer (part 1): "'You realize, I'm sure, that moving to a whole new town and starting your first day at a new school is difficult under even the best circumstances, right?' Brenda asked her daughter. 'Of course, Mother,' Stacy replied automatically."

  • Teaching is a work of heart, by Rémi (parts 18 - 20): "Morgendorffer household. Daria and Quinn are eating dinner. At the end of the meal, Quinn takes two apples from a fruit basket and shows them to Daria." (Part 19) (Part 20)

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Jane's Addition," which aired on this day in 1999. Love him or hate him, Tom was a significant change to the show, and you can't deny that he shook things up. Whether or not the result was positive or not is up for debate.

Andrea's really gotten into the spirit of Sports Illustrated's 65th birthday, and I can only imagine how Upchuck (assuming they're still an item) feels right now. Come to think of it, there's more than one alter ego of Andrea in a bikini, which makes you wonder which animator had a crush on the backgrounder goth chick.

Today is also Madonna's 61st birthday. For some great Daria character makeovers in the style of Madonna's various looks, check out Kemical Reaxion's The Ten Faces Of Madonna!

Tiffany's showing off one of the show's more obscure alter egos as director/screenwriter Lina Wertmüller, who was born on this day in 1928. I would hate to see any movie created by Tiffany, though. It would probably just be two straight hours of Tiffany staring into a mirror.

Today is also the anniversary of Doc Holliday's birth in 1851. Holliday is known for his role in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, but gets far less credit for his participation in the Okay to Cry Corral. I heard his lanyards sucked.

  • Chuck And Stacy: An Unlikely Love Story, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Charles Ruttheimer the Third was positioned at the entrance to the Lawndale Mall. He was trying to wow passerby with his magic act. He was calling himself Charles The Prestidgitator. He had to admit the name was lame but it was all he could come up with so he went with it."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 7): "'DeMartino !?' asked Jake. 'Yes.' Daniel replied. 'Crazy Eye DeMartino !?' asked Jake again. 'That's what he said.'"

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (parts 2 - 4): "Daria joined her first potion-making class a week later. It was held at Mrs. Ocampo's, but not in her home. Instead it was held in a building behind it." (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • In The Year 2019, by JAS (COMPLETE!): "First thing Daria became aware of when she woke up, was the headache. Next thing was that her mouth was dry and tasted like something died there."

  • Pack Mentality, by atiyatortilla (part 3): "It wasn't easy being a seventeen year old girl, especially when you had a horrible secret."

  • The Pilgrim's Inertia, by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Daria awoke with her entire body feeling like an enormous ache covered in dirt. At this point, she'd have been happy to deal with mom's judgmental aura if it meant a soft bed and warm food." (Part 5) (Part 6)

Daria's Fifteen Minutes of Fame

Daria's wishing a happy birthday to the late artist Andy Warhol, who was born on this day in 1928. Jane's probably jealous that she's only featured in the alter ego as the artwork rather than the artist, but she can share the spotlight. She's probably used to that by now, anyway.

I see Daria is in costume for Coast Guard Day, and I must say that it's nice to see she put Dr. Shar's practice boobs to good use. I'm pretty sure Beavis and Butt-head would both keel over and die at the sight of her, and I'm sure that's reason enough for Daria.

Today is also Sisters Day, and whether or not Daria celebrates that one depends on whether or not Quinn's claiming her as a sister or a cousin today. If nothing else, I'm sure Jane would be willing to loan out one of hers. If she can find either of them.

Finally, today is the anniversary of the episode "The Lawndale File" on this day in 1999. It turned out that Lawndale wasn't infested with aliens, but that doesn't make the town one bit normal as far as Daria and Jane were concerned.

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "The Morgendorffers again attended Thanksgiving Dinner at the Temple in Sweetwater. (Part 82) (Epilogue)

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 1): "It was very early New Year's Day. Another year had started for the young witches and wizards of Highland, Texas, a year rung in by eating black eyed peas for good luck."

  • The Pilgrim's Inertia, by welltemperedclavier (parts 1 - 3): "The air in the Morgendorffer house had grown stifling. Maybe it was the rising heat of late spring, made humid by vapors from the Odai River and the swamps of the Bitter Coast. Maybe it was mom's sullen disappointment as she dwelled on her eldest daughter's latest networking failure. Maybe it was just the inevitable result of four people crammed into a single home." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Teaching is a work of heart, by Rémi (parts 15 and 16): "Morgendorffer household. Daria is busy working, sitting in a chair in the living room, when Quinn comes in. Quinn : Guess what, Daria ? I've been accepted into a really exclusive modeling class ! Daria sighs." (Part 16)

  • Unnamed story (Walter's assorted stuff), by Walter Kovacs (part 1): "The atmosphere in Pepped Up Cafe Franchise #2984 was unhappy and grim this morning, even more grim than the usual atmosphere one gets in a giant, rundown space station."

  • First One Out of the Pan, by EntrancedCat (part 2): "Daria sat contentedly in the front passenger bucket seat on the drive returning to Schloss Morgendorffer that afternoon. • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 5): "Helen and Jake lay in bed one night, Helen poring over one of the many books the counselor gave her and Jake going over a Pokémon player's guide he picked up after work. 'I'm wondering if this book is really relevant.' Helen mused. 'It doesn't quite apply to our situation and the author has a pretty misty view of childhood.'"

  • No Use Playing Dumb, by MorganAW (part 3): "'I think I'm finally finding out what it's like to be a Lane,' Daria said as they walked down the hall, blissfully close to the end of the year. 'That can't be since it's only afternoon and you're already out of bed.'"

  • When The World Stood Still, by neonhomer (part 1): "'I'm not comfortable with heights.' Came Daria's voice over the phone. 'I know sweetie, but you did say you would help chaperone the trip with Jane.' Said Helen Morgendorffer, Daria's mother."

  • Chan's Crucible (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Kevin, Jim, Mack and Chuck are sitting on the porch drinking beer and watching the sunset. 'So,' said Jim, 'Who do you guys like for the Superbowl this year?'"

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (parts 76 and 77): "School started the week after Daria and Quinn returned from the camp-out. Not that there were any ruffles and flourishes for the first day of school: there hadn't been any while Principal Strong had run James Ferguson Elementary School, and Principal Trimble chose not to have any, unless his insipid speech at a mandatory school assembly was supposed to be such." (Part 77)

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 27): "Erin sat in her usual Monday morning seat on her usual Monday morning train, drinking her usual Monday morning coffee, yet everything felt different."

  • No Use Playing Dumb, by MorganAW (parts 1 and 2): "*Knock knock* 'Come in,' Daria said without looking up from the pages of Anna Karenena." (Part 2)

Sew What?

Daria's having a blast celebrating Threading the Needle Day, even if the camel isn't happy about it. If you have any needles that need to be threaded, then go nuts! This holiday only comes around once a year, after all!

If you'd rather try out a new recipe, then you could celebrate Culinarians Day instead. Dibs on Kitchen Sink Stew. tongues....

That Trident Might Come in Handy, Too!

Apparently Mack's been given a promotion from captain of the football team to God of the Seas for Neptunalia. I suspect that the only real difference will be that Kevin starts calling him "Mackerel Daddy" instead. The good news is that now Mack can summon a shark to eat him if he wants to.

Fanfic Update!
  • The Artist and The Fashionista, by Jabe Shepherd (part 5): "'So, how did your art project go?' Stacy asked. Quinn went through her locker to search for the self portrait Jane had painted for Ms. Defoe's class; eventually, she found it. 'Wow!, that's beautiful did you paint that?' Stacy asked as she observed the painting."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (parts 74 and 75): "The Morgendorffers managed to eat breakfast despite Quinn's distraction by the hummingbirds. After a while most of them gave up and went back to the Gilrays' hummingbird feeder." (Part 75)

  • Esteem Effort, by Youth of Oz (part 1): "Daria idly wondered if Lawndale High really had such a problem with depressed and low-esteem students, or if it was an arbitrary choice - just enough random teens declared unfit for the principal to justify more funding."

  • First One Out of the Pan, by EntrancedCat (part 1): "'It's like pancakes,' Quinn said to Sandi, Stacy and Tiffany as the Fashion Club members gathered at the Schloss Morgendorffer kitchen table to discuss their strategy for Cashman's Winter sale over breakfast. 'Everybody knows you never eat the first one out of the pan. You feed it to the dog.'"

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 4): "'You don't have to pack a lunch for me, Daria.' said Link as he ate his corn flakes. 'I'm on the free lunch program.'"

  • Kevin The Bounty Hunter (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Jim is in the garage and has just wrapped up another car video. As he begins to put up his camera equipment his cell phone goes off. He answers."

Monkeying Around While Quinn's Away?

I think the three Js have missed the point of the Scopes Monkey Trial, which was decided on this day in 1925. We know that Kevin will be interested, though, because he is quite clear on the fact that he likes monkeys. Especially if the monkey is Curious George.

This is also the anniversary of both "The Misery Chick" in 1997 and "Jake of Hearts" in 1999. Daria was forced to contemplate death in both, but only one of the episodes subjected her (and us) to the antics of wacky radio DJs.

Oh, So THAT'S What the Red Stuff in the Fridge Was!

Trent's following in Lizzie Borden's (alleged) grisly footsteps in honor of the anniversary of her birth on this day in 1860. I guess Amanda found out what really happens if you hold a butterfly too tightly in your hands.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Groped by an Angel," which aired on this day in 2000. Quinn got in touch with her spiritual side, at least so long as spirits are willing to do things for her. Pretty on-brand for Quinn, really.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 21): "Daria spotted them before Trent did, the news van parked in front of the warehouse apartments, naturally recognising her own immoral species."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (part 73): "Daria awoke before dawn the next morning, the tent's air still reeking of Quinn's floral-scented shampoo. It wasn't nearly so intense as it had been in the car trip back from the hot springs the day before, but it still lingered."

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 3): "'No, sorry, really can't come over today.' Tom told Quinn over the phone on Sunday morning. 'See, my dad's got this really important client who's all churchy church and he's convinced him we are too. So now I have to spend a few hours in a pew trying not to go to sleep. Hope you understand.'"

  • Kevin The Bounty Hunter (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (part 2): "Sandi is in the living room with her new dog, a rottweiler named rex. 'This is your new home, Rex,' she said, 'Now, let's take that muzzle off.'"

  • OrchestraTed (The Ted Zone), by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "Ted and his parents were eating a peaceful dinner together when inspiration struck."

Hot Diggety Dog!

Kevin looks like a weiner, but that's okay because today is National Hot Dog Day. Jake's probably donated another batch of bulk-rate dogs to the school for another eating contest, but I think I'll pass. Help yourselves, though! Even if you're not hungry, it'll really gross Quinn out and that alone is worth it, isn't it?

Jake, Helen, and Daria are sharing a tender family moment for Global Hug Your Kids Day. Meanwhile, Quinn is...well, Quinn's probably hugging her mirror somewhere.

Today is also National Gummi Worm Day, but don't touch the ones in the bowl on the counter. Jane needs them for an art project, and she'll be pissed if you eat them.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (parts 71 and 72): "Despite their fatigue after a day of hiking and sight-seeing, the Morgendorffer girls still had enough energy to accompany Jake to the community campfire." (Part 72)

  • Daria's Great Adventure, by dmsfanman (part 27): "Daria was happy that she was sitting in the inflatable habitat. Tom and Shamus had taken Herman with them to start observing and recording the information about anti-gravity technology."

  • Daria vs. Terfs, by Peridaniel (part 4): "'You know, Daria,' Quinn began as she prepared herself a bowl of cereal, 'since you're under my command or whatever now, maybe you should start being more respectful of me.'"

  • The Date, by elainefr (part 14): "Okay, this is no big deal. It's just dinner with Tom- who is my boyfriend- who has wanted to spend more and more time with me- who might misread this whole thing and think that something more is supposed to happen. I'm over thinking again. It's dinner and that is all."

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 2): "'Couldn't we have left the squad car door ajar or at least unlocked?' Officer Wildman asked his partner as they approached the Morgendorfer's front door. 'I wouldn't mind having an excuse to work that scum over again!'"

  • Kevin The Bounty Hunter (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Kevin is waiting in line to have his driver's license renewed. He notices the guy in front of him is wearing a dark blue cap."

Three Part Harmony

The Three Js are one short for their quartet on Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, but even if they added one more person I doubt Quinn would be impressed by their efforts. I'd be surprised to find out even one of them could carry a tune, honestly.

Meanwhile, Daria and Jane will be enjoying National French Fries Day today. Extra points if they get cheese fries.

Finally, today is the anniversary of the episode "Fair Enough," which aired on this day in 1998. There were no fries or barbershop music at the medieval fair, but there were turkey legs and a madrigal singer. Does that count?

Gimme an "L"! Gimme an "O"! Gimme an "N"! And so on!

Brittany's definitely the best candidate to celebrate National Cheer Up The Lonely Day with, because Daria has no interest in cheer and would much rather stay lonely. Still, if she has a new Melody Powers story ready she might stop by and see Mrs. Blaine. Anyone else wish we'd had some kind of follow-up to that? I guess that's why God gave us fanfic.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 20): "It seemed that wherever she went, Daria Morgendorffer couldn't get away from those fucking pigeons and their incessant noise."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (part 70): "The campground manager's office was modest: a cabin so small that it looked more like a shed than someplace where people actually lived."

  • Daria vs. Terfs, by Peridaniel (part 3): "'Ready for day two of shameless bigotry and obnoxiousness?' Jane asked Daria as they walked into the school the next morning."

  • Getting By, by EntrancedCat (COMPLETE!): "'You look great, Jake,' Andrew Landon smiled as he straightened Jake's tie. 'You've been meeting with bankers and backers for years. Don't know why you're more nervous than me.'"

  • Happy Adversity, by Lady Evil (part 1): "Tom rang the doorbell at the Morgendorfer residence and was greeted by a very plastic looking Guy Fawkes. 'Ugh. What a creepy face.' he said. Daria lifted up the mask she was wearing. 'Aah! What an even creepier face!'"

  • Knight In Pink Shining Armor (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "A medieval themed amusement park outside Lwandale is bustling with tourists. Over the main entrance is a huge arch sign that says "Medieval World". Cut to a rear entrance with a modern gate and guard post. Jim's Camaro pulls up to the gate." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Quinn Got In The Car, by Lady Evil (COMPLETE!): "Jane and Daria were walking to Daria's house, Daria carrying her duffle bag. 'So, Trent told me to tell you,' Daria was saying. 'That Jesse didn't mean the kind of crabs you thought he meant. He meant the kind with claws that sing calypso songs to discontented mermaids and go great with garlic butter.'"

"Yes, grunge was wrong, but you can't blame the whole state."

Quinn is getting into that, that grunge in honor of Courtney Love's birthday. I can only imagine what Sandi would say, although the Fashion Club's willingness to attend Alternapalooza means she might not mind so much.

Today is also National Sugar Cookie Day, and Daria baked some just for you! They're shaped like hearts.

Chocolate and Nuts? What a Great Combination!

Anyone care for a chocolate-covered Mrs. Johannsen for Chocolate Day? I'll pass, but only because I have plenty of chocolate stashed away already. You have fun, though!

Today is also the anniversary of both "Road Worrier" in 1997 and "It Happened One Nut" in 1999. Daria sat on a peanut butter sandwich in one and dispensed nuts in the other. Someone working on the show was just nuts about nuts!

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 19): "'We're going to the Hamptons.' 'We're doing what now?'"

  • Daria: A Post-Electric Play, by Roentgen (part 1): "'I'm sitting here in a railray station got a ticket for my destination...hmmm hmmm....' Poe finished sweeping the floor. Or at least she thought she had finished sweeping it. All it took was one little wind from somewhere to bring the dust right back into this run-down shack somewhere along the Mississippi."

  • Getting By, by EntrancedCat (part 11): "Kevin's mouth gaped on empty air as Tiffany broke their kiss by dropping down from tip-toes. 'What is it, babe?' Kevin asked as Tiffany turned her face from his. 'Is my Honest Abe costume beard tickling you, dollface?'"

  • Timmy The Model (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "It's late August so Quinn and Jim are at the mall with Tommy, Timmy and Teddy to do what all parents do in the waning days of summer: shop for back-to-school clothes. They are currently in the pre-teen section of Cashmans. Jim is loaded down with the latest styles for school age boys." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Truth or Dare (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Saga Goes On), by Shiva (part 1): "Inexplicably Daria and Jane found themselves playing Truth or Dare during a sleepover at Jane's place. The reasons for all of this are inexplicable and have no baring on canon beyond what you are willing to believe."

Is a Trip to Bikini Island In Order?

Don't let the festive beach ball or the cute swimwear fool you. Andrea is clearly not enjoying National Bikini Day...although I'll bet Upchuck is.

Speaking of Andrea, today is also the anniversary of the episode "Mart of Darkness," which aired on this day in 2000. I think we got more insight into Andrea's character in that brief exchange than we saw in the rest of the series put together!

But No One Will Compliment That Awful Mirror in the Girls Bathroom That Adds at Least Two Pounds!

Quinn's either celebrating Compliment Your Mirror Day or just doing what she does every morning when she sees her own reflection. I'm just glad she finally found a friend she can actually appreciate.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 18): "'Do you want to go somewhere tomorrow before you go back to Lawndale?' Trent just looked at her. 'Are you serious or just yanking me around? Coz I'm getting too old to go chasing after girls.'"

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 5): "Daniel trained for more than an hour; it was the best way to shut his brain down. Then he took a quick shower. When he was done he went downstairs to see what his sister was doing. He was not surprised to find her in the kitchen intent on washing lettuce."

  • The Date, by elainefr (part 13): "Tom stood at the entrance to the Lane household poised to knock. He wasn't sure what he was going to say, but he wanted to get this thing with Trent out of the way."

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 26): "The unzipped, borrowed jacket and the over-tight leather pulled Erin's shoulders back into a display of confidence she did not feel. She wanted to feel in control, but instead she felt like a fraud."

  • Fates Entwined, by Deep Metal (part 31): "'So, what do we have here?' Mr. Candy kicked open the door. In front of him he saw David Van Driessen at work on the camera."

  • Getting By, by EntrancedCat (parts 8 - 10): "'Okay, Chief,' Dexter and Jane's boss said to the artist Dexter. 'Get busy with the background to, let's see, Design C10, over them rental boxes there.'" (Part 9) (Part 10)

  • Quinn Got In The Car, by Lady Evil (part 11): "Daria woke to the sound of her phone buzzing. She opened her eyes and looked around. Where was she again? Oh, yeah, Jane gave her the couch in her cabin to spend the night on. Daria put on her glasses and picked up her phone. It was 11:37 am and Link had sent her a text message."

  • Quinn's last steps, by Rémi (parts 5 and 6): "A church in Lawndale. Well-dressed people are gathering for Sunday service. Quinn and Daria are coming in, wearing their usual clothes. Some people are throwing weird looks at them." (Part 6)

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries #2), by Roentgen (part 189): "Yesterday, Jamie White's celebration of his unanimous election to Deputy Leader was bittersweet. More sweet than bitter."

The Sensitive Pseudo-Scotsman

I see Mr. O'Neill is celebrating International Tartan Day, which is weird because "O'Neill" is Irish, not Scottish. Then again, why would he start being right about things after all this time?

Today is also Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day, and I'm sure Bro and QB will be here soon with some Firstdown Fudge for everyone. Unless Mack finally snaps and kills his business partner, which is likely to happen any day now.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Gifted," which aired on this day in 1998. Although Daria and Jodie decided to stay at Lawndale High, they had a good time learning that smart kids can be just as irritating as dumb ones.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 17): "'Thomas Andrew Sloane! What the hell are you doing here?' Kirk demanded, his face tight and drawn. He was wearing a long grey overcoat and black gloves and was one top hat away from looking like the villain from a silent movie."

  • The Artist and The Fashionista, by Jabe Shepherd (part 4): "Later that weekend, Quinn is approaching the Lane's house. She knocks on the door; it took a while, but Trent answered the door. 'Oh, Daria's sister?' Trent asked surprised."

  • Quinn's last steps, by Rémi (part 4): "Brittany's house. Daria and Quinn are coming in, Daria pushing Quinn's wheelchair. Teens are partying around. Quinn : That was nice of Jodie to get us invited to this party. Daria : Yes, I'm so glad to be bored here rather than doing my own thing in my room."

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries #2), by Roentgen (part 188): "'Anyway,' Sandi said, 'I had an ulterior motive for our little get together.' 'What?' Quinn cried. 'You're running again?' Jane chuckled. 'You took all of us to New York to tell us that?'"

  • Unnamed story (World's Shortest Crossover XV: A New Era In Crossovers), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "Jane: Are you sure this is safe? Trent: Jane, it's as safe as it's going to get."

Mack Caught a Fish Thiiiiis Big!

Mack's gotten a head start on National Catfish Day, although I don't think that's a catfish. Anybody know? I'm not good with fish.

In other news, today is the anniversary of the episode "Boxing Daria," which aired on this day in 2001. There weren't any catfish there, either, but we did get a ton of insight into what makes Daria tick and a very fitting end to the series (aside from the final movie).

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 16): "'What are all those cars for, d'you suppose?' 'I'd say reporters.' ' Already?' 'It doesn't take long.' Daria said. 'Death and destruction are our bread and butter.'"

  • Getting By, by EntrancedCat (parts 6 and 7): "'So Miss Deshima,' Mr. DeMartino paused in front of Tiffany's desk. 'PERhaps you would CARE to give us the reasoning of the Imperial Army in their inVASION of Manchuria?'" (Part 7)

  • Quinn Got In The Car, by Lady Evil (part 10): "O'Niel pouted as all the campers cheered for "Uncle Anthony". Meanwhile, Daria and Link were on the other side of the bus saying their own good-bye."

  • Rowe And Moreno: Taking The "C-Bus", by DIsaac (part 1): "After coming home and crashing out on the couch. They start talking about their future In Radio. STACY: So tired. Don't. Want. To. Move. DANI: I seconded it."
