Art? Only On Days That End in "Y"!

Jane's very content at how she's observing Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, but then again she does this pretty much every day. Unless artist's block strikes or her arm hurts from painting copies. Aside from that, though, I'm sure it's a new inspiration every minute.

Morgendorffer, P.I.

Daria's looking more colorful than usual in celebration of Tom Selleck's 76th birthday. The actor played the title character in Magnum, P.I., which was in turn parodied in the Daria episode "Murder, She Snored."

Today is also Freethinkers Day, which definitely fits Daria. Kevin and Brittany will just have to wait for Nonthinkers Day.

Fanfic Update!
  • Star Trek: Voyager – Horrors of the Delta Quadrant, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Voyager was stopped. On the bridge, Captain Kathryn Janeway looked at the viewscreen showing the nebula on their path to the Alpha Quadrant."

  • Sunspots, by atiyatortilla (part 1): "It was Jane Lane’s first day at a new high school. She had a brand-new pair of combat boots, a backpack with a broken zipper, and a headache."

"Curiouser and curiouser!"

Stacy's going to play a nonsensical game of croquet as Alice to celebrate the anniversary of Lewis Carroll's birth on this day in 1832. There have been so many Alice in Wonderland/Daria crossovers in fanfic that the Dariawiki has a special "Alice Story" page devoted to them!

Of course, it's not a birthday unless there's cake, and today just so happens to be Chocolate Cake Day! Of course, if it were up to me then every day would be Chocolate Cake Day....

Daria and Quinn are having a very thorough (and slightly disconcerting) Opposite Day! Of course, to truly be opposite Quinn should be reading and Daria should be on a date, but that's going too far even for Opposite Day.

When Quinn is done pretending to be her sister (I mean cousin), she should make a long distance phone call in honor of the anniversary of the first transcontinental telephone call, which took place on this day in 1915. Just don't let Jake see the bill afterward.

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 28): "'And I win!' said Allen, crossing out the O’s on the tic-tac-toe Link drew on the fogged up window."

  • Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Glen Oaks Lane was usually quiet at night. It certainly was unusual that a strange grating sound could be heard somewhere in the street. In the back yard of a large red brick house, a blue box slowly appeared."

  • Evil Deed Blues, by atiyatortilla (part 5): "High Hills Park was busy for a Saturday afternoon, teeming with people who wanted to make the most out of such a sunny day."

  • Quinn's Of The Past, by WildDogJJ (part 3): "Marina is returning to work after the days karate class. She enters the office sweet and immediately gasps. Cut to her POV and we see the reception area is trashed as Brent tries in vain to wrangle very unruly triplets."

Feet and Pies...Do NOT Go Together!

Daria's just checking to make sure she still fits into a size six and a half B for Measure Your Feet Day. I mean, you never know after the holidays. I'm sure Jake's still a solid 10 D, though.

Today is also National Pie Day, as opposed to Pi Day, so you can have your pastry without any math. But why would you want to do that?

Don't Try to Hug a Squirrel, Though. Trust Me on This.

Daria, Helen, and Jake are all sharing a rare tender family moment on National Hugging Day, but Quinn's going to sit this one out. She doesn't want to wrinkle her outfit and she's got a big date tonight! Be careful whom you hug today, too. Not only is there a pandemic going on (in case you haven't heard), but Mr. O'Neill can tell you that some hugs end in lawsuits.

Today is also Squirrel Appreciation Day, so go find a fluffy-tailed rat and tell it how much you care. Better bring some nuts, though. Squirrels aren't big on words.

Finally, it was on this day in 2002 that Is It College Yet? aired, ending the show and sending Daria and Jane off to Boston. We may not have gotten to find out what happened to them next (unless you count the alter egos at the end), but the fanfic will keep us going for years to come!

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 27): "'Why do I have to be at this thing?' Hanley asked as he, Trent and Jesse walked through the woods."

  • Bobbie Caller, by Meester_Lee (part 6): "The media descended on Lawndale High School on Tuesday. Bobbie had gotten a ride with Aunt Callie and saw them from over a block away before she heard them: some sort of media circus was clustered around the school’s main entrance."

  • Daria: Well, It Is Friday (Iron Chef: Daria has a huge crush on Brittany.), by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "For most people, Friday was the end of the work-week and when most of them could kick back, relax, and have fun for a couple of days. That wasn’t the case for one Daria Morgendorffer, aka Cynic, one of the Wards attached to Baltimore’s Parahuman Response Team."

  • Did I Really Just Do That? (Creative Writing - My class submissions), by neonhomer (part 1): "My name is Matthew Mathiesen, and I hate school."

  • Quinns Of The Past (Life Goes On), by WildDogJJ (parts 1 and 2): "Quinn was on her computer. She has a very annoyed expression on her face when Jim comes in." (Part 2)

Tapping at My Bomb Shelter Door

I don't think Daria's enjoying National Tin Can Day, and not just because someone forgot to leave her a can opener. I mean, you try being happy while wearing a poodle skirt!

Maybe she should just forget about the can and relax with some Edgar Allan Poe on the anniversary of the man's birthday on this day in 1809. I've heard that "The Tell-Tale Heart" is super romantic!

Early to BED and Early to RISE....

Either Mr. DeMartino is taking a more visually-oriented approach to teaching history or he's found an interesting way to celebrate the anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth on this day in 1706. I hope the lightning doesn't have a negative impact on either his eye or his heart condition.

If you haven't done so already, better give up on those New Years resolutions because today is Ditch New Years Resolutions Day. Unless your resolution was to not make any resolutions, in which case you're all set!

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 26): "Jane sat on the porch steps of the clinic. Any other day, she’d be mildly curious about the small mob of clamoring girls, one giggling like a hyena on nitrous oxide. Right now, she was too worried to care."

  • Burned Out, by Wrabbit7 (part 24): "The girls all lined up in the gym, dressed in identical blue shirts and yellow shorts, though with the way some of them filled them out, one could be excused for thinking there was some 'customizing' going on with them."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 59): "'Oh! Hell Mr. Landon, Mrs. Landon. I'm sorry I didn't notice you.' Daniel said, taken by surprise."

  • Daria in the Background (IC : Daria doesn't need glasses), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Art Class was interesting. Daria knew she didn’t have any real talent in the subject. She knew that her strengths lay elsewhere. However, even she could do basic things like perspective."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria has a huge crush on Brittany.), by Sureia (part 1): "'Miss Defoe, I need a new pencil, I used up the eraser...'"

God Save the Queen...and Her Hats!

I don't think Daria is enjoying her cosplay for the anniversary of the Coronation of Elizabeth I on this day in 1559. Of course, that might be because she's not wearing her boots and, without those, she just feels naked.

A coronation is also appropriate today because it's National Hat Day! Daria's covered, as long as you consider a crown a type of hat, but Helen will be sitting this one out. She hates the way she looks in hats.

"It's only a matter of time...."

Quinn's concentrating extra hard because she wants Make your Dreams Come True Day to become a reality. Of course, it's not like Quinn's been deprived of much during her life, so perhaps she should consider that it already worked?

On second thought, I doubt that's the case, but that's just because today is also International Skeptics Day--probably one of Daria's favorite holidays! Is it me, or does this holiday really need to be on April 1st?

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (parts 24 and 25): "'Wait, every month?' Jesse asked. 'Are you serious?'" (Part 25)

  • Daria: In Another World?, by starwater09 (part 10): "Game day was not something new to Kevin Thompson. In all his seventeen years of existence he’s had his fair share of game days dating back to his junior football league days. But the Homecoming game today was going to be very important."

  • Daria: Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (part 23): "'So what’s up with you?' asked Jane when Daria was able to sit down with her at lunch. The morning had been rainy, but Jane had gotten a ride to school with one of her team-mates."

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 9): "Deep in the seedy underbelly of Ilkona City two people met. 'You have the information?' one of them asked."

Jane? Run.

I think that Jane needs to understand that National Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day is generally understood to involve water, not paint. Then again, when has Jane ever gone along with what other people always do? Daria's gonna kill her, though. Justifiable homicide in my opinion.

I Bet He Could Make a Football out of a Coconut!

Kevin hopes everyone knows that actor Bob Denver, known for his role as Gilligan on Gilligan's Island, was born on this day in 1935! I have to say, this is one of the more dead-on alter egos. And if you don't believe me, check out Jim North's (unfinished, ahem) fanfic "A Three Hour Tour."

If Gilligan's Island isn't your thing, just write your own fanfic and make the characters do anything you want because today is also Play God Day. Make them crawl, I tell you. Crawl!

Fanfic Update!
  • Back Seat For No One, by EntrancedCat (part 15): "Daria usually only inspected and dressed up her hair before she went out of her room. On this warm Friday afternoon after school, however, found her standing before her full length mirror with the door securely locked to prevent anyone from catching her turning this way and that in self-assessment."

"I am NOT old!"

The Fashion Club may look more stony than usual, but that's just because they're celebrating Old Rock Day. For some reason. I guess they decided a plaque just wasn't enough and went for a full-on monument.

In more modern news, today is also International Programmers' Day. Stop by Buzzdome to wish them a good holiday...if they're still in business, that is.

Sandi, That's Not How You Tweet

I see Sandi is overachieving for National Bird Day, but someone needs to explain to her that a birdbrain is a birdbrain, no matter how fancy the feathers look. And by "someone" I mean Stacy, because that would be freaking hilarious.

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 23): "'OK, this isn’t good.' Trent said when he came across Jesse’s shredded and bloodstained shorts and underwear."

  • Brittany - Party Time, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "The next morning, Daria met Brittany at the door. 'Good Morning.' 'Good Morning, Daria.'"

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 58): "Daniel checked his room one last time. The desk, the bed, the bookcase, his boxing gear... everything was perfectly in order. He heard a chuckle behind him and turned around. It was Quinn, leaning on the door."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 40): "The girls went back to cooking after the Crows Flooed away."

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "Felicia emerged into a TARDIS corridor that looked almost the same as the corridor that she was in before she entered the anomaly. The corridor had a more organic look to it than the ones she was used to. She could also hear the Cloister Bell ringing."

  • Lucky Shirt (Random Pairing Challenge 2020), by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "Earlier that day, Ed and his friends were hanging out in his dorm room when Buggy laughed at him and said 'Man, you need to get laid.'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Secret Genius Quinn), by JPAGC (part 1): "As he drove along the streets of Lawndale, Jake talked to his daughters: '...and don't worry if the other kids take some time to take a liking to you, all right? ...'"

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Lady Evil (COMPLETE!): "In the corner of Lawndale there was a young lady named Stacy. She wasn’t merely a follower of fashion. She had a talent for sewing and mending garments."

  • You Want It Darker, by LSM (part 15): "She'd already faced a dice with death, detangling the Christmas lights from the balcony."

How Long Do Hobbits Sleep?

Either Trent's celebrating Festival of Sleep Day or someone needs to check his pulse. Either way, he sure seems relaxed and peaceful!

Today is also the anniversary of the birth of J. R. R. Tolkien in 1892. Those of you who are actually awake can observe the day by making a hobbit-shaped candle! Or you could just read The Lord of the Rings, I guess.

Horizontal Stripes? Ewwwwww!

Tiffany's brushing off her sewing skills as Betsy Ross, who was born on this day in 1752. I'm not sure I'd trust Tiffany to sew on a button, let alone piece together an American flag.

I'll try to post this blog post quietly, though, in case anyone is observing National Hangover Day after last night's New Year's Eve activities. I figure with 2020 finally over, we all deserve a little celebration!

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 22): "Jane hoped Saylor wouldn’t think her rude for checking her watch while she sobbed, but it had been awhile."
