It's Definitely NOT Opposite Day!
Daria and Quinn (or is it Quinn and Daria?) both appear to be celebrating Opposite Day, although I'm sure on the inside they're absolutely horrified. I expect that the Holiday Island version of this day is a total contrarian who loves to play devil's advocate.
If you're planning to go out anywhere today, be sure to check the forecast first because it's also Observe the Weather Day. The last thing you want is to be caught in a surprise hurricane, especially if you end up stranded with a football player and a cheerleader in a creaky little rooftop shack.
Let's all wish a happy Tatiana Day to Quinn's old camp friend and Tiffany predecessor, even if she wound up blowing Quinn off in the end. "Girls together," indeed.

Yad Etisoppo Yppah!
I see Quinn and Daria have traded places for Opposite Day, and I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping they'll switch back soon. I am currently the opposite of comfortable with this dissonance.
At the very least, Daria should far prefer A Room Of One’s Own Day, given that her room is her preferred place of habitation. Go ahead and get your own room today, and bonus points if the walls are padded!

Daria and Quinn are having a very thorough (and slightly disconcerting) Opposite Day! Of course, to truly be opposite Quinn should be reading and Daria should be on a date, but that's going too far even for Opposite Day.
When Quinn is done pretending to be her sister (I mean cousin), she should make a long distance phone call in honor of the anniversary of the first transcontinental telephone call, which took place on this day in 1915. Just don't let Jake see the bill afterward.
Fanfic Update!
- Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 28): "'And I win!' said Allen, crossing out the O’s on the tic-tac-toe Link drew on the fogged up window."
- Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Glen Oaks Lane was usually quiet at night. It certainly was unusual that a strange grating sound could be heard somewhere in the street. In the back yard of a large red brick house, a blue box slowly appeared."
- Evil Deed Blues, by atiyatortilla (part 5): "High Hills Park was busy for a Saturday afternoon, teeming with people who wanted to make the most out of such a sunny day."
- Quinn's Of The Past, by WildDogJJ (part 3): "Marina is returning to work after the days karate class. She enters the office sweet and immediately gasps. Cut to her POV and we see the reception area is trashed as Brent tries in vain to wrangle very unruly triplets."

It's a Topsy-Turvy World
Daria and Quinn are celebrating Opposite Day, which is probably a painful experience for both of them. I mean, not only do they have to wear each other's clothes but Quinn is forced to make sarcastic remarks while Daria needs to figure out how to put product in her hair. The horror!

Today is NOT Opposite Day!
Don't worry; Daria and Quinn haven't lost their minds. They're just celebrating Opposite Day in the most unnerving way possible.
I expect Quinn will snap out of it at any moment, especially once the phone rings. That would be especially appropriate because today is the anniversary of the first transcontinental telephone call in this day in 1915. This is an important date in history not only for Quinn, but also for Helen, for without those all-important telephone calls she might actually have to spend time with her family.
Fanfic Update!
- Bringing the Fear, by Jim North (COMPLETE!): "Daria opened her bedroom closet to find a void of nothingness beyond. Which she knew was a tautology, but she also knew that it wasn't the metaphorical void of nothingness that usually occupied her closet."
- Edicius, by elainefr (part 5): "'Movie was okay,' Tom remarked as they walked together afterwards. Daria shrugged. 'Were you cold? You could wear my jacket.' He offered to the young lady that was now shaking her head in a firm no to his offer."
- Jim the Mechanic (Quinn, Season 3), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "We see Stacy, Chuck, Quinn and Jim seated around the table. They are playing poker. Stacy has just raised everyone. Stacy: I raise. Any takers? Chuck: Well, oh love of my life, if you insist. Call." (Part 2) (Part 3)
- Shameless Self Insert Into Daria, by James the Lesser (part 3): "Adrian sees Jane walking with Daria. 'Get over it and forgive her.' He sighs, clenches his right hand into a fist, and then relaxes it."
- A Three Hour Tour, by Jim North (part 5): "'So, I guess we're supposed to get to know one another now?' Michelle asked. 'What an excellent idea!' chirped Ted, completely missing the obvious sarcasm. 'Who wants to go first?'"
- Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries : Thread #2), by Roentgen (part 94): "It was 5 am in the morning. Trent Lane woke up from another fitful sleep. The Spatula Man was talking to him, but he was wearing a Buddhist robe. Instead of the red and saffron he had seen before, the red had been replaced by solid black."
- Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: 600 Years Afterward.....), by LongSnakeMoan (part 1): "'Hey Jane.' Daria entered Jane's miniscule room in the tiny apartment they shared, weary from her long day fetching coffee, making appointments and taking calls in the name of journalistic training."

Today is NOT Opposite Day!
Daria and Quinn have switched outfits because today is Opposite Day, and everyone should not do and say the opposite of what they normally would. Also, Daria is overrated, fanfiction is for losers, and I hate chocolate.
Not only that, but on this day exactly one hundred years ago, the first transcontinental telephone call was made. This is a red-letter day for both Helen and Quinn, who would probably wither away and die without their phones.

"That's funny, because it's the exact opposite of the truth, right?"
Daria and Quinn have pulled a switcheroo to celebrate Opposite Day, and it's hard to say which one of them is enjoying the experience the least. Daria, I think, is just hoping to keep it together until it's over. Quinn looks happy, but something tells me she's dying inside.
Fanfic Update!
- Ah, Hell, by metameric1 (part 10): "'Don't you trust your boyfriend?' 'It's not him, it's the women that think he's a sexy, available guy that I don't trust.' Her stomach began to feel a little weird. 'He's going to forget about me.'"
- Alienation, by malakite (part 1): "As a late model Lexus pulled up to a school, a worried sounding father within said 'Now, girls , I understand it isn't easy moving to a whole new town , especially after uh' He paused momentarily to think. Perhaps it was best not to bring it up."
- Behind the Counter, by NightGoblyn (part 6): "Daria staggered though the front doors of the store, squinting and shading her eyes from the bright interior lights. 'Yo!' Jane called from the other side of the store. 'You ready for your first over-night shift?'"
- The Crust III: The Upper Crust (Pie, Pie, My Darling), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "Daria squeezed in through the narrow hatch and Tom proceeded to seal it behind her. 'So, uh, thanks for letting me stay in your panic room until the rest of my life, I guess,' she said, already tearing open an MRE."
- Dream On (1,001 Deaths of Tom Sloane - Part II), by SacredDust (COMPLETE!): "Forced to slow down anyway because of the curve, Tom studied her curiously as he came closer. She was in her mid-teens, skinny and just a little on the tall side with honey-colored hair in a ponytail. She was wearing jeans and a short-sleeve purple shirt with pink cuffs."
- Dylan, by J-D (part 33b): "There was a story in the newspaper about a powerful storm heading for Lawndale and expected to arrive that same day. Dylan suggested they might not want to be on the roof when it hit and Rod agreed. Besides, they both wanted to see the aftermath of the devastation from close up."
- Evening, by JPAGC (part 2b): "Jane moved to the chair by Helen's right and took her seat, waiting only enough to allow Daria to pass behind her. In front of her, across the table, Sandi remained standing with her hands on the back of the chair, smirking."
- High School Never Ends, by welltemperedclavier (parts 1 - 4): "She paused in her thoughts, half-expecting a response. Shaking her head, she kept forward, one booted foot in front of the other. Ten minutes later found her across the street from her intended destination, the big front building still in its familiar shade of off-yellow." (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4)
- How To Change A Life, by ognawk (part 4): "Ashley was sorting out his locker, while thinking about the situation with Leanne dating Joe Lopez. He cursed himself for not having had the bottle to ask her out himself, and now that ship had probably sailed. Just as he was closing his locker, Leanne walked up to him with a smile on her face."
- In These Plagued Streets, by ognawk (part 4): "'Guess there's only one way to find out,' Jane said as she played the video. Jane saw a dimly lit room. After a couple of seconds, she was greeted by an all too familiar sight, the red hair, green eyes and oval rimmed glasses of Cassidy."
- Match Breaker, by SacredDust (part 9): "She kept walking and threw the door open. Alison whirled around in surprise and dropped the empty wine bottle. It hit the floor and broke. Daria stared her down until the temperature in the room was sufficiently low."
- Mysteries of Lawndale 1: Esteem of the Investigator, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 4): "There was a large crowd at Lawndale High's tennis court. The new girl, Quinn Morgendorffer, was playing against a player from Oakwood, Lawndale's biggest rival. What was impressive was that Quinn was winning."
- Still Standing On My Neck, by SentrytheDefiant (part 1): "My first day at Raft University and I'd forgotten a pen."
- Unnamed story (1,001 Deaths of Tom Sloane - Part II), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "As Tom Sloane was drunkenly stumbling around some dark road in Miami, he briefly wondered if he had remembered to use a condom, since that last chick from the bar had been on the skanky side..."
- Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "'Your daughter will be fine, Mr. and Mrs. Morgendorffer. We've determined she has an infection from a bacteria known as clostridium difficile. We have a specialist coming in today who will be performing the operation --' 'OPERATION?!' Jake howled."
- Veronique Morgendorffer (A.K.A. The Noodle Incident) (A New Direction), by peetz5050 (COMPLETE!): "'Okay Morgendorffer, so how about we pass the time and you tell me a story.' 'What? You want me to make something up?' Daria blinked at her short-sightedly through the steam."

"That's funny, because it's the exact opposite of the truth, right?"

Today is not Opposite Day! This is not the day when you say the opposite of what you mean and there is absolutely no chance that any statements, answers to questions, or blog posts could become unnecessarily confusing. Also, Kevin Thompson is a brilliant man, Daria and Trent are meant to be together forever, and chocolate is totally overrated.

Lucky Strikes Out
Nine years ago this very day, "Lucky Strike" premiered, closing in on the end of season five. A previous post offered some interesting information about this episode, see what you think of it. Wish we knew who the two black teachers were. They sort of magically appeared in this episode, then were never seen again. And the coach never got a speaking part. Alas.
Marianne, the legal assistant in Helen Morgendorffer's office, has a special day today (but no benefits thereof): it's Legal Assistants Day! Now she can shut up and get back to work, there's a deadline.
Today is also Purple Day (commemorating those with epilepsy), Prince Kuhio Day in Hawaii, and the birthday anniversary of poet Robert Frost and Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy. By some accounts it is also Opposite Day, but you figure out what to do for that one. It might not be Opposite Day. Or maybe it is.The Awesome Kem has drawn Kevin as Inspector Gadget, Brittany as his sidekick, and their dog as their dog. Dig it!
PPMB
- NEW! Apocalyptic Daria: Timeline, by Doggieboy (Part 3): In Kentucky, Major General Bartholomew J. Simpson and his wife are driving south on Interstate 65 after leaving Standford Louisville International Airport. That is when they hear the first reports of Washington and Pittsburgh being bombed.
- NEW! Cynic and Violence, by Peapotmaster (Part 2): "The planet is called Lawndale." "What kind of idiot names their planet Lawndale?" "Nerdy fan fiction writers who have nothing to do."
- Finn Morgendorffer 39: That S-E-X Word, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 1): Finn smiled. “You know I never asked, how did your date go last Saturday with Kelly?” “Fan-tastic,” Jeffy cheered. “How fantastic?” Joey, who was already starting to dress, joined in. “We went to the movie, then to the café. She was enjoying herself the whole way, and I was piling on that Mercer charm. Then we got back to her place, she invited me in, and, well...I scored! Woo!” Jeffy thrust his hips in celebration. Please point that in another direction, Finn thought to himself. [NEW! Part 2 here: Finn hung up the phone. Now he was even more depressed about the whole sex issue. Here was Daria, antisocial and a total misfit, now getting chewed out for having sex. With Tom. Finn’s best friend. Finn wasn’t sure whether to be angry or ashamed. Now even his own sister was having sex before he was. What did that make him? Nervous? Timid? Not interested in girls?]
- NEW! General Semantics, Private Angst, by Gwrtheyrn (Part 20): She reconstructed it in this way: Mackenzie's orders were to kill Amanda Lane, and 'X,' and maybe Jane as well, but to leave "Enro's favourite cousin" strictly alone. She'd prevented him from carrying those instructions out. But, had Mackenzie deliberately been complicit in his wife's murder? Had that whole gruesome tableau been served up just to convince Daria of his bona fides?
- NEW! Last Man Standing, by Project Pegasus (COMPLETE!): "So, ummm... I'm reading a book and... it's about John Milton and..." "Woah woah woah. This is your first self-insert, and you chose to blow it like this? You could have at least done something halfway interesting with your first self-insert like go to the Adult Entertainment Expo or something." "But... I thought we could... I dunno, have a fun adventure together. Like, we could do so many Jägermeister shots together that you become too drunk to make it back to your place so you have to stay at my place. When we get there, you come on to me in your drunken stupor but I gently rebuff your advances, informing you that I want you, but not like this and..." "Yeah, that's not happening."
- Nobody Puts Quinn in a Corner! by Shull Bitter (Part 1): "I don't really think you'd fit in at Hampshire College. It's Shaggy." Quinn wrinkled her forehead, not ugly though, but cute like a puppy. "What's Shaggy?" "You know, from Scooby Doo? There's a legend about the characters on that show being based on Hampshire College and the schools around it. And Hampshire is Shaggy." "Ooooooh." A pause. "What school is Daphne?"
