Calleth Me Not "Mack Daddy"!

Although Mack has clearly mastered the art of dressing like Shakespeare, it remains to be seen if he'll be celebrating Talk Like Shakespeare Day as well. At least he can't do much worse than Kevin did, with or without a skull. Even Jamie managed to get the words right, even if his inflection needed work.

I see that Mack is also observing World Book Day, and I have no doubt that Daria will be doing the same thing no matter where she is. Feel free to join in, Shakespeare or otherwise.

If you're more in the mood for a multimedia experience, you could enjoy Movie Theatre Day instead. After all, in Daria's words, "Let's face it. Most people would rather watch a movie than read a book. It's fast, it's easy, and you don't have to worry about your lips moving." Bonus points for watching a Shakespeare adaptation!

Woof!

This gorgeous fellow is enjoying a celebratory stick for National Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day, but I hope he watches where he's going. Daria is a licensed driver now, she still wears glasses instead of contacts, and she's anything but timid after her encounter with Travis.

I hope that Mrs. Stoller is enjoying Kindergarten Day, especially because she apparently believes everyone she sees is a kindergartner. At least you know her students were always very aware of their posture.

Since today is National Library Workers Day, I want to tell you all one thing: Shhhhhh! Okay, fine, you can talk quietly. Just watch out for falling roofs, all right?

  • Spider Quinn 21 A View of Oakwood and Ruins, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 4): "Upon using an emergency exit they found security waiting for them. Ninja Talon slammed it closed and SpiderGirl webbed it shut."

  • Unfortunate Son, by wilddogjj (part 1): "It was Sunday night and the Carbones (Quinn, Jim and the triplets) were having a huge Italian Sunday dinner in the dinning room. Extended family were present as well. Jake and Helen were there, though Daria wasn’t due to being too busy to commute from NYC to Lawndale."

Think the Timothy Leary-Loving Yeagers Will Celebrate?

I hate to break it to Daria, but Bicycle Day isn't so much about two-wheeled transportation as it is about psychedelic drugs. Although, given the surreal quality of the dream sequence that this screengrab came from, perhaps that's not so out of place after all.

Drugs or not, I think Daria would enjoy National Cat Lady Day much more, regardless, considering that was one of her predictions for her own future. As a female cat owner, I can confidently say that there are far worse fates out there.

Perhaps Daria could entertain the kitties by celebrating National Poker Day with them! Who says a family card game has to be limited to humans? And, really, dogs shouldn't get all of the fun when it comes to poker games.

What About Down Low and Too Slow?

It seems that Presidents' Day is giving itself a celebratory gesture in honor of National High Five Day, which is good because I don't think anyone else on Holiday Island would be willing to interact with them at all. No matter how good either of them is at the harpsichord.

Honestly, I think most people would prefer to spend time with flying nocturnal animals, and not just because it's Bat Appreciation Day. Jane, especially, would love to "sleep upside-down and spread rabies," and who am I to get in the way of her ambitions?

Although today is Blah, Blah, Blah Day, I think that's pretty much every day for a Lawndale High School teacher. It's also probably what Daria hears whenever someone tries to make unwanted conversation with her.

  • In cerca d'autore, by fridaythesavage (COMPLETE!): "Melody Powers wanted to die. As the elating grip of the story had slowly released her, she had realized what exactly she had just done."

The Vitruvian Overachiever

Jodie is either demonstrating one of Leonardo da Vinci's well-known works in honor of the anniversary of his birth on this day in 1452, or she is just stretched physically as well as mentally these days. The good news is that, with double the limbs, Jodie will be able to juggle far more activities than she used to!

Jane would probably rather follow da Vinci's lead in painting, especially because it's World Art Day. I hope she'll stick to originals, though, rather than trying to copy the Mona Lisa. Copying doesn't suit Jane well at all.

It's possible that Mr. O'Neill and Ms. Barch will use the opportunity of Titanic Remembrance Day to recreate one of the famous movie scenes. With any luck, someone will push them both into the water.

May Your Letters Be Useful and May Your Word Scores Be Triple!

Looks like Daria is on another winning streak for Scrabble Day, and if she plays her, uh, tiles right then she might be able to negotiate her way out of another grounding. Really, anyone who goes up against someone with Daria's vocabulary skills deserves what they get.

For less intense activities, you could celebrate International Plant Appreciation Day by, well, appreciating a plant. If you see a crutch sprout a flower, though, you'd better run away before the ghost of Tommy Sherman shows up. Yes, that's a sentence I just wrote.

On this day in 1997, the Sunday Examiner & Chronicle-Parade published an interview with Daria. Check it out to learn about some fun tidbits like Jane's New Kids on the Block T-shirt or Daria's college dorm decorating plans.

  • Spider Quinn 21 A View of Oakwood and Ruins, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "SpiderGirl thought about what the administrator had said as she made her way towards the wing she and Joey had been in earlier. She hadn’t heard about an Oakwood vigilante, but then she was focused on Lawndale."

Sweeeeet Adequiiiinnnn!

Although Joey, Jeffy, and Jamie are certainly looking the part for Barbershop Quartet Day, they're short one singer. That may be just as well, though, as they get into enough fights over Quinn when there's just the three of them. I can't imagine how bad things would get with yet another addition to the group.

I hope Jamie appreciates the extra-specialness of today, because it's National James Day! I wouldn't hold my breath expecting this to help Quinn remember his name, though.

For all of those animal-lovers in fandom, please have a happy National Pet Day! There are a handful of canon pets, like Fluffy and Leary and Mr. Whiskers, but they didn't get a lot of screen time. Hmmm...I would watch the heck out of a Daria episode from a pet's perspective.

Nobunny Expected to See This

Upchuck is celebrating the anniversary of the late Hugh Hefner's birth on this day one hundred years ago in a scene that could only come from his wildest dreams and the Fashion Club's worst nightmares. Unless this is just moments before the girls, having lulled him into a false sense of security, kill him and hide the body where no one will find it.

If they do follow through with this plot, they may need to take Jake's advice for Name Yourself Day: "Walk away. You change your name, move to another state, get some ID." Sorry, everybody who's also planning on observing this one; I already have dibs on "Esmerelda."

Finally, be sure to appreciate any ancient sandwiches you may sit on because it's National Cherish an Antique Day! You could also visit a flea market and see if you find any treasures like California Raisins posable erasers or Annette Funicello albums.

Paging Quinn the Keg Queen....

Jesse has gone just a bit overboard in celebrating National Beer Day, but he seems happy enough. Kevin could celebrate by singing "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall," but I find it hard to believe that he can count to 99 forward, let alone backward.

Helen, on the other hand, could enjoy Motherhood and Beauty Day by participating in another mother-daughter fashion show, except that there's no way Quinn would allow it after the last disastrous attempt.

Not that Quinn had much better luck in either of the episodes "This Year's Model" or "I Loathe a Parade," which both aired on this day in 1997 and 2000. The first one led to Quinn getting passed over in favor of Kevin, while the second one saw her covered in engine exhaust.

E.T. Phone...the Mall

Tiffany is ready to celebrate First Contact Day, but alien enthusiasts everywhere will be disappointed. After all, they've been hoping to find intelligent life on other planets.

Fortunately, it's also Deep Dish Pizza Day, and no one can be sad when they have pizza. In Daria's own words, "there's no aspect, no facet, no moment of life that can't be improved with pizza."

Finally, happy Easter to everyone in fandom who celebrates! Thanks to the Wayback Machine, you can enjoy a festive batch of Easter-themed Daria stories and fanart from the Sh33p's Fluff.

  • Captain or Hero?, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Captain Erica Browne looked at the planet from her ready room window. Beowulf had arrived in high orbit earlier in the day."

Send In the Goths!

Apparently Andrea has more talents than simply reading bleak poetry and working at PayDay, and she's showing them off in honor of American Circus Day. Honestly, I think she chose the wrong act for the coffeehouse performance.

If you can't go to the circus today but still want to have fun, there's always World Party Day instead. You could enjoy your host's life-size ceramic tigers or dance the night away in a Jackson Pollock-inspired gymnasium. The choices are endless!

Maybe you're an introvert like me and don't want to deal with a big crowd of people, but you can still be festive by celebrating Find a Rainbow Day! If you have any trouble, just ask Kevin to break down a door. He's good at making rainbows appear that way!

No Foolin'!

Mr. O'Neill looks especially foolish today for April Fool’s Day, and for him that's really saying something. Remember not to believe anything you see or hear today...even from me. Ha! Paradox!

Hey, remember that day nineteen years ago when all those objects came to life and took over our civilization? That was sure a crazy day, wasn't it? Good times.

If you'd like to mark the occasion with a physical memento, you could also celebrate National Greeting Card Day by sending someone a heartfelt message. Just don't make the same mistake Stacy did and give away any free poems!
