It's High Time!

Looks like Trent just finished celebrating 420, so don't expect too much from him for awhile. Or ever. Admittedly, he isn't really the most reliable or intelligent character even when not high, so keep your expectations especially low today.

If he gets the munchies later and needs a snack, today is also National Cheddar Fries Day! Daria, fan of cheese fries that she is, would be willing to join him if she could only speak two words in a row in his presence.

Finally, happy Easter Sunday to all in fandom who celebrate!

Will Winston Be Hiding Any Eggs?

Jake's looking more dignified than usual in honor of Winston Churchill Day, but hopefully he won't be called upon to defend England's shores from foreign armies. If you want someone who can drink beyond his limits as Churchill supposedly did, though, then Jake's your man!

If war and booze aren't your thing, how about chocolate bunnies and painted eggs? That's right, it's Easter Sunday! There are at least a couple dozen Easter-themed Daria fanfics and fanart pieces out there, and you can find most of them at the Sh33p's Fluff.

Fanfic Update!
  • Charlatan, by FictionAuthorofFiction (COMPLETE!): "Sometimes, Daria felt like she was a fake. She was supposed to be better than this, everyone expected her to be so cold and unfeeling. But she wasn't. She was supposed to care, but not?"

  • Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "'What’s happening, Amiga?' Jane asked. 'The Doctor, again,' Daria answered."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 13): "Meanwhile Julia was learning about how the Aldretes and the other Magical families dealt with magic before they went off to school."

  • I can tell you— the telling gets old, by theAngstgirl (COMPLETE!): "'By the way, do you mind paying for this? I'm broke.' Daria says, Jane sighs but offers a grin."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by britabird (part 7): "Daria worked on her new short story idea, business was booming for Quinn and the J’s, both Tom and Jane managed to complete the school year’s worth of work unscathed, and Trent was a man of his word."

  • looking out for you, by tawog (COMPLETE!): "After Daria decided to stop romantically pursuing Tom after fighting over their six-month anniversary, citing their differences in personality, status, and the near-permanent wedge he drove between her and Jane as reasons, she found herself constantly overthinking."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by ladyevil (COMPLETE!): "The steak dinner Top had invited Upchuck out to wasn't going as well as he hoped."

Have an Eggs-celent Easter!

Joey's just making a big batch of Easter eggs for everyone, but I think I'll pass. I'll gladly accept any chocolate bunnies you have to offer, though!

Today is also Big Wind Day, but unfortunately Wind Lane only qualifies as a medium-sized Wind at best. However, the big, wet rainstorm would certainly count.

Fanfic Update!
  • Betrayal (The 1002 Deaths of Tom Sloane), by Vukodlak (COMPLETE!): "Sir Kevin Thomson and Her Ladyship Jodie Landon dragged a barely conscious Thomas Angier Sloane into the great hall where he was roughly thrown to the ground before his wife Princess Daria Morgandorffer Sloane."

  • College Disorientation, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'Okay, this is an informational sheet Push Comes to Love sends around to 600 leading colleges. It's called "My Personal Goals and Aspirations,"' the instructor told the college prep class."

  • Daria of Morsang-sur-Orge, by RĂ©mi (parts 9 - 12): "A week before Pentecost, Jacques of Morsang-sur-Orge was seen journeying on the road toward Aachen, with his company of servants, squires and knights." (Part 10) (Part 11) (Part 12)

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 31): "Gradually, life at Hogwarts began to acquire a rhythm. Herbology on Monday followed by electives and study hall, Charms and Transfiguration on Tuesday, Defense Against the Dark Arts on Wednesday followed by flying lessons in the afternoon, and the dreaded Potions class on Thursdays."

  • The Definition of Mercy (The 1002 Deaths of Tom Sloane), by YouthofOz (COMPLETE!): "Sweat runs down his face. The air is running out. Or rather, the breathable air is running out."

  • Edicius, by elainefr (part 27): "'Hey.' 'Hey.' They smiled at each other. He held out a small bouquet of flowers to her. She registered clear surprise and took them."

  • Lucky, it's Past, by Lady Evil (parts 3 and 4): "'OK, all you rockin’ rugrats!' Vixx Vinyl said into the microphone." (Part 4)

  • Midwife Crisis (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Quinn had just been run over by an 18-wheel tractor trailer. She'd seen it coming but, rather than get to safety herself, she shoved Jim out of the trucks way." (Part 4) (Part 5)

The King of Jibber Jabber

Mr. O'Neill is the perfect person for today's April Fool's Day post, especially because the joke is on him: he thinks he pities the fools, but he's the real fool and no one pities him at all.

Normally I'd remind everyone that we're still waiting on that takeover by our material possessions that was supposed to occur on this day in 2007 (according to Jane), but when I think about smart devices, self-driving cars, and internet bots, I'm not so sure it hasn't happened after all.

Finally, happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it!

The Little Imitator

Mr. O'Neill is about the last person I'd expect to portray Charlie Chaplin on the anniversary of his birth in 1889. For one thing, Chaplin was funny on purpose.

Joey's Easter Surprise

Happy Easter! I don't have any pictures of the Easter Bunny, but here we see Joey providing everyone with plenty of Easter Eggs. Um, you go ahead. I'll pass.

On a less creepy note, please enjoy these Easter-themed fanfics and fanart from the Sh33p's Fluff website: Fandom News!

Have a Very Feisty Easter!

Upchuck wishes everyone who celebrates it a happy Easter! The Fashion Club, on the other hand, wishes they could escape from Upchuck's fantasy sequence.

As a special holiday treat, check out these Easter tidbits courtesy of Mistress Thea and the Sh33p's Fluff website:
Fanfic Update!

  • Rotten Little Misery Kids, by Shiva (parts 1 and 2): "In the light of the setting sun the otherwise drab and ordinary High Hills Park managed to acquire a brief echo of beauty. However it was an unappreciated beauty to a trio that was seated on a bench near the main square framed by the bust of General Lee." (Part 2)

  • Tom Sloane, Lax Bro, by Shiva (part 21): "'Wow,' I grumble all as me and Jane stumble out of Miami International 'That flight was a bloody nightmare!'"

Upchuck's Easter Miracle

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it! The bunnies on the right aren't delivering colored eggs, but I don't think we'll hear Upchuck complaining about it. The rest of us can enjoy these Easter-themed fanfics and fanart courtesy of the Sh33p's Fluff:
Today is also the anniversary of both "Malled" and "The F Word" in 1997 and 2000. Not a whole lot about rabbits or eggs there, but we did get to find out about Mrs. Bennett's Fuzzy Wuzzy Wee-Bit addiction in one and get a disturbing glimpse of Mr. O'Neill's apartment in the other.

I Don't Even Want to Know What He's Smiling About!

Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates the holiday! Joey is providing the eggs for today's hunt, but I'm not sure I'd want to touch them. Save a chocolate bunny for me, though!

I could post a list of Easter-related fanfic and fanart, but Mistress Thea did such a great job that I'll just link to her list. Thanks, Thea!

Have an Eggs-celent Holiday! (Sorry.)

Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it! The bunnies on the left aren't the kind usually associated with the holiday, but I don't think we'll hear Upchuck complaining any time soon.

If you're more interested in Easter eggs, then Joey might be able to help you out. I don't know about you, but I think I'll pass.

I have been informed by Charles RB that Daria has been featured in a Beavis and Butt-head Easter story comic. You can view a page from it here. Thanks, Charles RB!

If you'd like some Easter-related Daria fanfic and fanart, look no further than Thea Zara's Easter Egg Hunt collection! Be warned--there will be "awwww!"

Now go forth to hunt eggs and bite the heads off chocolate rabbits!

She Is the Egg Man, Not the Walrus

Today is Easter, hope your day is filled with many chocolate ellipsoids and good tidings. And Helen Morgendorffer says this about that.

Did you know that today is also World Rat Day? No? Shame on you. It's for the pet fanciers. This day is also the anniversary of the day Congress finally settled on a design for the U.S. flag, which only took them only a few decades, of course.

Some sources claim this is School Librarian Day, which would of course fall on a Sunday and not a school day. There is disagreement over the date, though, some quoting April 23rd. Whatever. Our best to you, Kristen Bealer the fan librarian, hope you don't mind being our mascot. We have a furry suit for you somewhere around here.

Do you like nerdy girls like Daria? Check out this blog post covering "retro nerd girls" from the movies and TV. Wow, didn't know there were so many!

PPMB
  • NEW! Finn Morgendorffer 41: It's Called Boston, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 2): “So anyway, I hatched this plan to get Jane to go up to BFAC and see the sights and meet some people and look at some art and...” “You are aware this plan can backfire on you in so many ways it would take too long to mention them?”
  • RATBOY!! by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "Kevvie, take that off. Your fur smells funny." "Aw, babe!" [Just in time for World Rat Day!]
  • Ring-a-Ling, by Doggieboy (Part 1): “I’ll get it!” Quinn Morgendorffer yelled as the phone rang. Her older sister, Daria, lay on the couch and watched Robot Monster on the television. “Of course you will,” she muttered and chewed on some popcorn. She chuckled as bubbles came out of Ro-Man’s radio-thingy. “Ah, why can’t they make movies like this again?”

Not Quite the Easter Bunny

In "Groped by an Angel," Daria recalled the time that the Trix Rabbit stayed with her family and left the milk out. She was joking, of course.

Maybe.

Anyway, if you want a lot of Easter-themed Daria stories, here they are. Here's an Easter egg, too. Enjoy. And if you want to write or draw something awful involving Daria and the Trix Rabbit, be my guest. Remember: it's canon.

PPMB
  • Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe... oops! sorry! by Doggieboy (Part 9): Martin Peters stood at attention as the Marine lieutenant colonel looked him over coldly. “If you were one of my men,” the officer said coldly, “I’d bust your ass back down to recruit so fast, your head would spin.”

Easter Eggs Once Again

A little Easter fun for everyone, from the Sick Sad Life Planner CD.
More evidence that the Morgendorffers are some flavor of Christian, not Jewish, etc.

For the audio, click here. Did Daria and Quinn search for Easter eggs in Lawndale?
They're kind of old for that, aren't they? Figures Jake was behind it.

A Very Bunny Time of Year

Upchuck and his feisty Baby Blue Bunny Brigade remind us that Easter is a time for love and togetherness and remembering the Easter Bunny. They're not alone, either. Jake Morgendorffer's family celebrated Easter when he was growing up, per "Of Human Bonding," and he would have celebrated it, too, if his father had let him come home from Buxton Ridge Military Academy.

"You can't even paint Easter eggs without talking about your butts, can you?" says Daria to Beavis and Butt-head in one of the B&B comics, highlighting the importance of friends this holiday. Yes, it is a special time everyone draws or writes about. Angelinhel portrayed little Quinn finding an Easter egg, and Brandon League offered a heartwarming tale of little Jane and her good-natured defacing of public property in "Easter Eggs Need Color."

And what would Easter be without finding an Easter egg of your own? If that's not enough, here are a truckload more.

I'm posting this early because tomorrow is going to be complicated (family gatherings, etc.). Party on most righteously!
