Aloha!

Today is Ka Hae Hawai'i Day, also known as Hawaiian Flag Day. I'm not sure how this one is celebrated, but if anyone wants to pay to send me to Hawaii for a few days to find out, I'm not going to complain.

This is also J. K. Rowling's birthday, so best wishes to the creator of the Harry Potter series of books. There have been quite a few Daria/Harry Potter fanfic crossovers out there, probably too many for me to list without missing at least a few. So, why not talk about your favorites in the comments?

Remember to Remove the Lid if You Use a Conventional Oven!

It's National Lasagna Day! This is nothing special to the Morgendorffers, of course, but feel free to celebrate with a plate of delicious pasta today. I recommend fresh over frozen, but I won't judge.

Today is also International Tiger Day, so take this opportunity to put stripes in your hair if you've been considering it. Just don't let Daria anywhere near the hair dye, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • The Creepyling Chronicles, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "It stopped crying when he entered the nursery. There it lay, crawled up against the bars of the crib. Watching him with its tiny, abyss-black eyes set in a wrinkled face."

  • Flynn at 1111 Glen Oak (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 7): "However a minute later, after they had gone through an intersection, a back wheel came off the vehicle... Trent noticed right away. 'Um, I think we’ve just lost a wheel,' The vehicle then ground to a halt. Trent put the gear stick into Neutral. 'That’s not good.'"

  • The Hunter Home from the Hill, by DeacBlue (parts 13 and 14): "When the Lanes walked into the living room, Daria looked up. 'Your parents?' At Jane's nod, she got up. 'Mr and Mrs. Lane, I'm Daria Morgendorffer. Jane's my best friend.' 'I know your mom wanted to see them, Daria,' Trent said. 'That she did.' Daria went upstairs, and after a minute, came back down, followed by Helen. 'Helloo, Mr. and Mrs. Lane. I'm Helen Morgendorffer. I hope you can stay for dinner, but we really need to talk. Why don't we all use my office?'" (Part 14)

  • Ill-conceived (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Brittany sauntered up to Jane in the hallway, gray and black pigtails bobbing. 'Have you seen...Daria?'"

  • The Kissing Book, by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "Brittany knelt down and put her hands on Jane's shoulders. 'Let me explain.' She frowned. 'No, there's too much to say.' She sighed. 'Let me sum up. Daria is to marry Tom Sloane in a little less than a half-hour, so all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the lady, and make our escape, after I kill Li.'" (Part 11)

  • Nothing (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria froze in mute horror as Jane's face came closer and closer to hers, then just when her red lips were about to meet hers, Daria recoiled in disgust and roared, 'I AM NOT A LESBIAN!'"

  • Searching For a New Hope, by thatLONERchick: "About halfway through the first set, Daria put a hand to her stomach and frowned. She had been feeling warm all night and left her jacket in the car, but even so sweat shone on her bare arms. Nausea roiled her stomach and her face felt flushed. Daria bit her lip and dreaded a fever." (SFMB)

  • Sexy Daria: Sexy Cute Models, by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria couldn’t resist a smile at the haggard looking administrator, the last couple of days had seen the Principal of Laaaaandaaaale Hiiiighhhh doing some serious damage control as the local media had a field day with everything that had happened on what they dubbed 'Glamazon Day'."

  • The Ten Year Reunion Letter (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Hey Dee!' the familiar voice of her husband emerged from the kitchen, 'You got a letter from your old high school, something about a reunion.'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Opposites Attract), by Wassersauefer (COMPLETE!): "Two months ago he would never have thought that he'd do something this dorky. Still, here he was, Jamie White, sitting in the movie theatre and fidgeting like a small child, grinning like a maniac."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Funhouse Mirror Time (AU Crossovers with Canon)), by neonhomer (COMPLETE!): "A moment later, Daria woke up. 'I’m still dreaming.' She said. 'No.' Said the Captain. 'We were going to erase your memory, but I’m giving you the choice. If we do erase your memory, it will seem like a distant dream. Or, you can retain the memories of here, but you can tell no one. Not even Jane.' She said with a small smile."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by BrownEyedBagel (COMPLETE!): "'Hey Tom...yeah it’s Trent. Look man...she needs you...she needs you real bad right now...well...not exactly like that...she’s been talking about...um...hang on...'"

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Greystar (COMPLETE!): "'Yo, Mack Daddy!' Kevin greeted Mack in the usual way. 'Yo, Queen Bee!' Mack greet Kevin back in the definitely not usual way."

  • A Very Dull Saw (IC: Sleeping With Strangers (But Not Like That!)), by Aloysius (COMPLETE!): "Then he became aware of something warm behind him and froze still. He could smell some perfume and knew that whoever it was, it was female, but definitely not Jodie. Then he realized that he was totally naked and closed his eyes. Oh, hell. Oh, hell. Oh, hell."

  • Wednesday Afternoon, by peetz5050 (part 4): "Sergeant Kendall walked over and took the handset. 'Who am I talking to, please?... Yes Ms. Li... I see... everything?... what does that mean exactly?... surely there's an override... what about if there was a fire?... none at all!... right.' He sighed, then put the phone back to his ear."

Stacy O?

Happy birthday to the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who was born on this day in 1929. Although the former U.S. First Lady was known for being a fashion trendsetter, I'm not sure Stacy has what it takes to live in the media spotlight. At least without hyperventilating.

As far as canon connections, the only direct one I can think of is Jane's mention of "Quinnie O" in relation to Quinn's disguise during "A Tree Grows in Lawndale." This was most likely a reference to "Jackie O's" fashion style of wearing scarves and dark sunglasses later in life. I wonder whether the Fashion Club would approve or disapprove of her choice.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Speedtrapped" in 1999. We saw Daria's progression from timid driver to near-perpetrator of vehicular homicide, as well as some interesting glimpses into Quinn's activities during dates. Not to mention the delicious but virtually unbreakable ice cream cake.

Ready...Aim...

Today is the anniversary of the episode "Fire!" Jake very nearly destroyed the Morgendorffer home, Quinn narrowly missed dating a (gasp!) computer geek, and Daria...well, Daria came ever closer to that fateful moment that would give fandom migraines for over a decade and still counting.

Fanfic Update!
  • At the Crossroads...(Chapter 13), by oni (part 1): "The door opened and on the other side of the door, Jane appeared with a cup of coffee in her hand. Sandi looked at Jane for a moment, wondering why she was here, when suddenly the answer came to her. To confirm her suspicion, she asked, 'Daria’s here isn’t she?'"

  • Business as Usual (IC: Post-post Apocolyptic Daria), by Wassersauefer (COMPLETE!): "Daria Morgendorffer was not a happy camper. Mainly because she was nearly never happy, not since... well, she just wasn't. With a bored look at her dirty face she eyed her surroundings. Although this place was supposed to be safe did she not trust the peace. She had learned the hard way that danger is always around you, whether you notice it or not."

  • Dominated (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Tom very deliberately clipped the leash onto the collar around Daria's neck, then pulled hard on it until her ear was against his lips."

  • Ethan Yeager in Lawndale: Ch 9 Soaking Up Summer, by Shiva (part 6): "Coyote tried to calm her down but she smacked his hand away and began to suck in labored breaths as she began to shake more violently, unable to articulate anything coherent, Willow let out an earsplitting scream containing years of suppressed rage before sinking back into her chair like a marionette puppet who’s strings were cut."

  • The Kissing Book, by DeacBlue (part 9): "Brittany screwed up her face. 'Well, the Taylors have never taken defeat easily. Kevvie, carry her body with you.' 'Her body? Ewww.' 'Yes, her body. And do you have any money?' 'Maybe some. Why?' Brittany sighed. 'I just hope it's enough to buy a miracle.'"

  • Major-i-tay Mission (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "The two teenagers paused, shoulders slumping as they sat on Jodie's stoop. Then Mack slowly rose to his feet, pulling a gun out of his shoulder holster."

  • Moroned (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "'Looks like we're stranded. There's only one course of action open to us now.'"

  • Priscilla's New Look (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Priscilla smiled and sighed as she brushed her new pretty red hair while drops of blood slowly crawled down her face, no doubt being absorbed by her skin to make her even prettier!"

  • The Puzzle, by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "Daria smiled as she picked up her daughter. 'Oof! You're getting big!' After they had sat down in the recliner, she said, 'Do you want to hear about a puzzle I did when I was just about your age?' Anne, curled up in Daria's lap, nodded vigorously."

  • A Resentful Cynic Ch.4 : Revenge of the Malled, by ST91 (part 5): "'Well here it says that they intend to visit high schools and invite interested girls to nominate their schools. Don’t do you think that it would be great if they came to Lawndale High?' 'Indeed it would be a great opportunity for us. Well Stacy I must say congrats to you, being only the secretary of the club you had a great idea.' Sandi said with her usual barely hidden nastiness."

  • The South Rises Again (Iron Chef: Double or Nothing), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "I can't believe I said 'yes' to this,' Daria thought aloud, grimacing as Clayton Arbusto finished his latest brain fart on the current book he had read (surprisingly enough, he was capable of that skill)."

  • Star Trek: Daria - Resurrection, by echopapa (part 4): "They stopped at a door. 'Here are your quarters,' Wesley said. 'The door has already been programmed to respond to your biosigns. Just walk through.' The door slid aside as she and Wesley entered. In response to their presence, the lights came up, enabling Daria to see clearly. Her quarters were a suite with a sitting room with sofa, table and chairs, and floral arrangements with what she assumed were exotic alien plants. But what really drew her attention was the view."

  • Strontium Daria (IC: Post-post Apocolyptic Daria), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "2197. 'Welcome to Lawndale Intergalactic Port! We hope you enjoy your visit!'"

  • Tales of the Ringbearers: A Salvage Attempt (IC: Hell is Crossed People), by Doggieboy (part 3): "'Something is wrong with Robert, Nappy. He’s never acted so...pervy...before.' 'Pervy?' Napoleon asked. 'He’s acting like a pervert!' she said. 'He’s not acting like himself.' The beagle raised his head and sniffed briefly. 'We had better follow him.' 'Why?' she asked. 'Because he’s not going into the bathroom.'"

  • The Truth Revealed! (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "'At last, now we're the majority in this town! You and me... and... where did all these black people come from? Who the hell are those people?'"

  • Unexpected Hookup: Underneath It All, by Shiva (part 2): "Helen then laughed darkly, 'At least I was able to tell Rita my girls have their loves lives under control.' 'And what would you know about that?' Daria cut in very harshly, her eyes flashing dark hatred from behind her lenses."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Double or Nothing), by LadieT (COMPLETE!): "Daria stared at the exit door and tried to supress her anger. Damnit Jane, you knew I didn't want to go out tonight. You know how hard of a time I have talking to your brother. Wait until the next time I see you, you're gonna get a boot in the ass."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Double or Nothing), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "'I merely offer it as an observation,' Pat Seven said. 'You may take it as the assessment of a consummate liar, or you may take it as the God's honest truth.' 'There could be an area in between,' Daria answered. 'Maybe you're just sitting in the gray zone.'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Ladies first), by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "'You're acting strange today, Tom; you rushed out of the house so early that I barely saw you. Not that I can blame you for opting out of our fascinating breakfast conversation—'"

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by BrownEyedBagel (COMPLETE!): "Daria:' Let me get this straight...There was a fire at the mall....'"

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "One of the e-mails accompanying their 20 year high school reunion was from Ronnie, a boy that Daria vaguely remembered, asking them to visit a karaoke bar the night before."

  • Until the End (Iron Chef: Chateau de Morgendorffer), by januense (COMPLETE!): "They continued their trip in silence, until, about ten minutes after, as promised, the street climbed around the sharp side of the mountain, revealing the view of an ancient castle, roosted on a huge pinnacle of rock, departing from the main body of the mountain." (Alternate ending and Iron Chef)

  • Wednesday Afternoon, by peetz5050 (part 3): "TWO LOUD BANGS! The alarms died away though Quinn's ears were still ringing from the aural assault. 'What the hell was that?' She demanded. No one seemed to know."

Anyone Got Any Ketchup?

Today is National Hot Dog Day! Jake has a few recipes to share if you need inspiration, but he doesn't recommend buying them in bulk. He also doesn't recommend you go up against Mr. DeMartino in a hot dog eating contest. That man is in it to win it. Just look at his game face.

Fanfic Update!
  • The 180 Degree Turn Ch. 1: New Page, but Same Book, by Walter Kovacs (part 2): "They went out into the front yard and paused long enough to see the family moving in. The father was a typical yuppie looking fellow, the mother had long wavy auburn hair, glasses and wore a sweater with jeans. A boy who was Tom's height, who wore glasses was helping the father move a couch. Elsie guessed he was one half of a set of twins by the simple fact of a shorter, female version of him him walking around carrying boxes."

  • Apathymorphs: The Invasion, by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "Without thinking I let out a roar. It seemed to explode out of my mouth like thunder. I can’t even describe how I felt. My fear was gone! I was a tiger! What puny little runt was even going to dare to challenge me?!"

  • The Dork Kev Rises (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "Gotham Rogues Stadium. The echo of detonators continued to ring, and the screams of the wounded and the terrified. Gradually, they became aware of the men with guns around them and the man in the steel mask."

  • Ethan Yeager in Lawndale: Ch 9 Soaking Up Summer, by Shiva (part 5): "They were escorted by the man who had answered the door and shown to a parlor with only a minimum of fuss, where Daria instantly noticed that the Sloane’s were dressed to the nines, and one Sloane in particular noticed her just as quickly.. 'Wow Daria...' Tom said with wide eyes and soft tender tones, 'You look amazing.'"

  • An Excerpt from "My Time With Helen's Hellions" (IC: Post-post Apocolyptic Daria), by Aloysius: "Dealing with Ms. Barksdale’s temper was always a tricky thing. As head of a salvor’s group, she had to be tough and capable - and she was both in excess. I’d heard the story about how she calmly shot her husband’s killer in his shoulder and hip joints and left him screaming in agony on the ground."

  • Family New, by RLobinske (part 7): "Rita watched Amy nurse the coffee for a few moments before saying, 'With all that's been going on today, we haven't had a chance to catch up with each other. • Immortal Blood, by Shiva (part 8): "The car magazine helped to hide his clandestine reading for the rest of lunch and in his next class, however he was kept from fully engaging with the text since he had French class with Mohammad, which meant he was required to talk to him. But he was able to finish the first chapter on vampire basics by the end of class, in addition to what he had already read, Skylar had learned about his new biology."

  • Introduction by Jared Diamond (Iron Chef: Crossovers with NonFictional Works (and Beyond)), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "The theory, in brief, is that Daria Morgendorffer's intelligence does not come from some innate property but is rather the result of a chain of developments resulting in a disproportionate distribution of IQ."

  • Lawn Trek (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Vukodlak (COMPLETE!): "Tom Sloane Lieutenant Junior grade of the USS Lawndale was being hunted, he was marooned on this planet along side Lieutenant T'Daria Morgendorffer after their expermental ship crashed." (Continued by Roentgen) (Continued by Vukodlak)

  • A Resentful Cynic Ch.4 : Revenge of the Malled, by ST91 (part 3): "It was difficult for Charles to find a place, since that no girl wanted him around and the boys were frightened of being contaminated by his reputation. Charles didn’t blame them, because for them he was just Upchuck. The road to redemption is long and difficult, he had thought while picking up all the courage he had, which had gone to asking Daria if he could sit next to her."

  • Sexy Daria: Sexy Cute Models, by Shiva (part 7): "The stage lights came on and the two fashion victims lead their lambs to the slaughter. 'I know...' Scarlett breathed in equal amazement."

  • ST: VOY: ANJ 02: Voyager Tales, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Kate entered the holodeck, into a large entrance hall with curved walls. The door closed. She looked back and saw a round door. She started walking further into the smial, for smial it was. ‘Very curious,’ she thought. She followed the curve of the corridor around the interior of the hill and found Daniel in the library.'Lord of the Rings, huh?' she asked."

Mmm...Approximate Pi....

Today is Pi Approximation Day! It's not as exact as Pi Day, but I figure it's still a good excuse to geek out and eat pie, so where's the downside? Even Quinn is getting into the spirit, although I'm sure she has no intention of telling Sandi about it. And presumably the pie is low-fat.

That's One Small Step for an Overachiever....

Today is the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969! That's worth celebrating even if you aren't a space travel fanatic. Jodie's recreating the big event, perhaps as a nice boost to her resume.

In more recent news, today is also the anniversary of the airing of "See Jane Run" in 1998. Jane didn't make it to the moon, but she did get to wipe that contemptuous smirk off Ms. Morris's face. Equally satisfying, in its own way.

Fanfic Update!
  • The 180 Degree Turn Ch. 1: New Page, but Same Book, by Walter Kovacs (part 1): "Before Elsie could do more than roll her eyes in annoyance, her door opened and the youngest member of the triplets (by five minutes) stuck his head in and smiled at them. 'Hey guys, It appears that we have new neighbors.' He informed his siblings; 'They’re moving in right now.'"

  • All's Fare (A kinda-sorta IC - No Gas!), by DeacBlue (part 2): "'Breaking news!' the announcer said. 'Wildfires have gotten out of control in the national forest, twenty miles west of Lawndale. Reports are that a group or groups of campers are in danger of being cut off, and emergency services do not have enough fuel to reach them.'"

  • At the Crossroads...(Chapter 12), by oni (COMPLETE!): "'Quinn, I apologize if I come to this conclusion, but are you using Black Friday as a shopping day for yourself?' Caving in, Quinn replied with defeat in her voice, 'Yeah.' Sandi mentally held herself back from saying anything else to Quinn, but as the four of them entered the mall, she did have only one thought running through her head. 'I’ve been tricked into waking up for your typical shopping outing... I’ve been tricked into waking up for your typical shopping outing... I’ve been tricked...'"

  • A Brothers Duty, by Gnome (COMPLETE!): "I feel someone watching me. Another late night traveler, a huge specimen. She observes me with tired eyes. Her reflexes are slow, she cannot possibly prove a challenge to me. I allow myself a slight smile. But I must not let myself grow too complacent. We all need the same thing, and most of the prey had already been taken."

  • Ethan Yeager in Lawndale: Ch 9 Soaking Up Summer, by Shiva (part 4): "Daria wished to whatever deities were out there ranging from the Apophis to Zeus that she could temporarily shut down her brain for the duration of what she was having to endure for her second dinner at the Sloanes. 'Daria!' Quinn whined, 'Come on out now, it couldn’t have taken you that long to change into the next outfit.'"

Can you come over?'"

  • Immortal Blood, by Shiva (part 7): "Then just as he began to head on out, O’Neill put what he thought was a comforting hand on Skylar’s shoulder and brushed the skin of his neck. Skylar snapped at him with an unknowing flash of deathly blue seeping through his illusionary baby-blues and causing the fear of the Grim Reaper to grip his teacher’s bowels."

  • Kinetic Adventures, by MetalShadowX (part 9): "'You think you'll get away with this?' 'As long as you want your identity kept secret, then yes I do.' 'Just who the hell are you to blackmail me like this?!' 'Don't you recognize me? I'm disappointed in you,' she smirked, 'big sis.'"

  • The Kissing Book, by DeacBlue (parts 6 - 8): "'Jane, I love you, so please don't be offended when I tell you that that's so stupid that it just might -' Daria picked that moment to step into a patch of sand and disappear." (Part 7) (Part 8)

Her heart hammering and her breathing short she looked at the intruder that shocked her. 'Damn, was that necessary?'"

  • Operation Glitterberries: Chapter 08, by BF110C4 (part 3): "Entering once more to the bathroom she could clearly see the path that the bullet took after missing her, going through the open door and the shower’s curtain, to embed itself on the wall. Just two inches down, or half a second more to aim... She was damn lucky."

  • Revenge from the Grave (Iron Chef: Chateau de Morgendorffer), by Reven384 (COMPLETE!): "'I'm still a bit surprised mother left me anything. I figured she'd leave everything to Rita,' Helen said before bitterly adding, 'Then again she left Rita most of her possessions and money.'"

  • Rude Awakening Ep 11: Sucks To Be Them!, by DIsaac (part 4): "STACY: So we will be putting our REAL plan in action as we speak.... Operation Wicked Witch. The plan is simple. Trent? About that Mysterious Red Stuff in the Fridge...?

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Lizzie Borden, who was tried and acquitted of violently killing her father and stepmother with a hatchet. To this day the case remains unsolved, but I bet that didn't stop Daria from telling Quinn the story frequently at bedtime when they were kids. After all, what else are big sisters for?

This is also the anniversary of the airing of the episode "Groped by an Angel" in 2000. Quinn discovers a fascination with guardian angels while Brittany celebrates her hard-earned C-. My favorite moment of the episode is still the "sub-zero" argument between Trent and Nick. What's yours?

Happy anniversary to Disneyland, which opened on this day in 1955. Perhaps one day, Kevin Thompson will score a winning goal in the Super Bowl, look into the camera, and declare his intention to go there. And on that day, Mr. DeMartino will lose whatever may remain of his sanity.

Jane, however, seems oddly content considering she's surrounded by woodland creatures that may well be about to strike. Hey, I'll bet there's a Sick, Sad World episode for that. Any ideas for the SSW teaser?

Fanfic Update!
  • Apathymorphs: The Invasion, by JoeMerl (part 9): "What was going to happen tonight? What was this Yeerk pool anyway, what were we going to find? Would we manage to destroy this thing? Would we manage to free Trent? Was Quinn right? Was I really going to have to—"

Both Jeffy and Joey shuddered at the memories, all the bag carrying, the expensive gifts, being forced to wait in the car for hours on end, and all of it to get the favor of girls who didn’t give a crap about them at all. 'Well this was so much better,' Jamie replied with a big grin, 'She bought clothes for me.'"

  • Eye on the Target (Iron Chef - Let's Play Sports), by ST91 (COMPLETE!): "Three shots, three centers. Daria smiled when she saw that, once again, her arrows had hit the target perfectly."

  • Family Reunion, by januense (part 8): "'Well ...' replied Jane '... in fact, we've captured something...' she pointed her finger at her left shoulder, where the little fairy, bandaged almost like a little mummy... thanks to Jane's really poor medical skills ... was graciously sitting '... though not in the way it was supposed to be captured. I hope it's not a problem for you, auntie...' she expectantly asked."

  • First Day of Summer, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "'Let’s see, fifteen stores, including twelve clothing stores,' Quinn said as she leafed through the application forms. • Save the Last Trance for Me, by jtranser (COMPLETE!): "Jane said: 'O.K., Daria, I'm seeing it and I bet you are too. But that's not a dream, but an hallucination, probably induced by contact with fish that fed on psychedelic algae blooms. That, or the Tikis are messing with us.'"

Upchuck... looked good?!"

  • Sisters of Silence (Iron Chef: Opposites Attract), by Wassersauefer (COMPLETE!): "Tiffany sat on a bench, not moving for hours and staring straight ahead. Dancing Cheek to Cheek

Happy birthday to the late actress and dancer Ginger Rogers, born on this day in 1911. Ginger Rogers's most famous dance partner was Fred Astaire, and it has been pointed out by others that Rogers did exactly the same thing as Astaire--except backwards and in high heels. Nice.

Vive la France!

David: But when the workers stormed the Bastille, they only found seven prisoners, and one of them was the Marquis de Sade.

Quinn: Eww.

David: That's more or less the way they felt.
Happy Bastille Day! Brittany is demonstrating her deep love for French people and their culture, which I'm sure has nothing to do with that lonely exchange student who needed an American goodbye.

Today is also the anniversary of the airing of both "The Teachings of Don Jake" in 1997 and "Lane Miserables" in 1999. Both involved a certain amount of fantasizing, but in only one episode were those fantasies glitterberry-induced. Unless Daria's hiding something from everyone.

  • A Chaotic Shiny Tarot Reading, by Greystar (COMPLETE!): "Daria and Jane exchanged a look and a shrug and went inside. The inside of the tent was lit from a pair of open flaps near the top and decorated simple, moderately sized tapestries, not the in-your-face gaudy that was the stereotype of traveling shows. 'Would you be interested in having your cards read?' The lady who asked was on the high side of middle aged. 'You never know what they’ll tell you.'"

  • Diagnosis (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Monday, Monday), by breitasparrow: "How can this be? I’m only twenty-four years old. How much longer will I have to paint? • Immortal Blood, by Shiva (parts 4 and 5): "'I was just having fun.' Skylar offered up weakly in defense of his appearance. 'Newborns?' Skylar asked in hushed tones, feeling as though he was missing something obvious." (Part 5)

(Part 3) (Part 4)

  • The Last Splash, by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "'A little girl went down to the edge of the lake, one summer,' said Daria, throwing a stone into the water. 'It had been very hot, so there was a wide place where the water barely covered the mud. It seemed that they had invented a game of throwing rocks in the mud.'"

  • Lawndale and Sandi Griffin’s Genie (Chapter 7), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5): "The squirrel appeared on the top of a fence and lost its grip of the emerald. Eep!

Look out, everyone! It's Friday the 13th once again, so try to avoid any open ladders, broken mirrors, or black cats. Also try to avoid Ms. Barch on a bad day and the Fashion Club on a makeover spree, but that's good advice no matter what day it is.

Today is also the anniversary of the airing of "Fair Enough" in 1998. Quinn's acting career suffers a major setback while Daria and Jane learn far more than they ever wanted to about Stacy's personal life.

No, Quinn, It's Not World POPULAR Day!

Today is World Population Day, established in 1989 by the United Nations in order to raise awareness of population issues. I'm pretty sure those issues don't involve entire towns breaking spontaneously into song, but should that ever happen then I'm sure the U.N. will look into it right away.

Fanfic Update!
  • Apple of his Pie (Pie, Pie, My Darling), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "Mad Dog stared sternly at his eldest granddaughter for a moment, then broke out in a wide grin. • At the Crossroads...(Chapter 12), by oni (part 2): "The screech from the alarm clock brought Sandi out of her slumber. • In The Cards (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Monday, Monday), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Stacy squirmed in her seat as the psychic slowly turned the cards over, explaining what each one meant for her life, past and future. The other is the man you are destined to spend your life with.'"

(Prologue part 2)

  • More Than Just A Teacher Crush, by BrownEyedBagel (part 2): "Another thing that I will probably never tell my best friend about is how I reacted when I heard the phone ring. I keep in shape with my running; better shape than I give myself credit for. Still not sure how I leapt clear over my bed to reach the nightstand I left it on. • A New World, by breitasparrow (part 3): "'Well I think it’s safe to say that either Tom’s dead or he isn’t here. Otherwise that would’ve woken him up.' 'Not necessarily.
