The Lady AND the Tiger!

I'm not sure ceramic tigers are really in the spirit of International Tiger Day, but as Mack pointed out, they are grrrrrreat! Jane could take the opportunity to dye her hair with stripes again, but this time she had absolutely better get a professional to do it. No question.

If Jane wants to try a new look, perhaps she should consider celebrating National Lipstick Day instead. It's easier to apply and far less permanent. Daria, meanwhile, could have another "lollipop" to redden her lips if she's going to be spending time around Trent.

Regardless of what else happens today, it's a very good bet that dinner at the Morgendorffers' will include frozen lasagna and why not? It's National Lasagna Day, after all! It's also a day that ends in "Y," which is generally when the family has lasagna for dinner.

Finally, a big thank you to Azul for keeping the blog going while I was gone!

She Knows That Other Frozen Foods Exist, Right?

Helen's trying to pretend that she's only serving the family frozen lasagna because it's National Frozen Food Day, but we all know that isn't true. It might be more convincing if she didn't serve the same thing every. Single. Night.

I think we can withhold the lasagna from Brian Danielson even if it is National Brian Day, because...well, screw that guy. He's a herpes-spreading jerk and he doesn't deserve lasagna. So there.

Do Tigers Eat Lasagna?

To no one's surprise, Helen is celebrating National Lasagna Day today. The shock would be finding out the Morgendorffers ever celebrate National Not Lasagna Day. That would be newsworthy!

Today is also International Tiger Day, and Jane reminds everyone that they don't have to choose between the lady and the tiger. They might, however, have to choose between funky hair stripes and keeping a friendship intact.

They're Grrrrreat!

Whether you spend it appreciating the ceramic tigers at Brittany Taylor's house or forcing your best friend to dye your hair, have a great International Tiger Day! If you must celebrate with hair dye, please try to avoid the farm-themed colors. Nothing good ever comes from those.

Today is also National Lasagna Day, so after your tiger-themed holiday please pull up a chair with the Morgendorffers and have a tasty pasta dinner! Unless Jake's cooking tonight, in which case I recommend you claim you have other plans.

Normally this is where the fanfic update would go, but there hasn't been any new fanfic recently. Get moving, you lazy writers! (Yes, I'm including myself in this.)

Care for Some Concentrated Protein and Starch Nutrition Squares?

Now, you'd think that Helen is serving lasagna because it's National Lasagna Day, but in reality it's just what's for dinner. Every day. No matter what. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the Morgendorffers eat turkey lasagna on Thanksgiving.

Meanwhile, Jane might be celebrating International Tiger Day, but hopefully not by dyeing her hair. Instead, she should do something safer and less dramatic, like getting an actual tiger as a pet.

Mmm, Concentrated Protein and Starch Nutrition Squares!

For once Helen's dinner specialty is appropriate, because today is National Frozen Food Day. I assume that it's okay to cook or at least thaw whichever frozen food you choose to eat, right? Okay, maybe not ice cream.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria of the Milieu Something Slimy, by Meester_Lee (part 1): "Daria Morgendorffer heard her bedside alarm clock go off and began rousing herself to full wakefulness. Now awake, but groggy from the lack of caffeine, she began reviewing her plans for the day and remembered that her science class had a morning excursion to the harbor front in Baltimore."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef - Sticky Situation), by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "'Honestly, the kind of thing that you see in TV isn't very accurate,' Helen said, taking a sip of her drink. 'For example, sometimes you don't even realize that you are in labor until you're a good bit through.'"

This Holiday is Grrrrreat!

Jane's probably a little wary of International Tiger Day, because trying to emulate tigers led to a pretty serious calamity. Am I referring to The Kiss or the bad dye job? You decide!

Meanwhile, the Morgendorffers are almost definitely enjoying the culinary delights of National Lasagna Day, unless Daria talked them into ordering pizza again. Either way, processed cheese all around!

On Second Thought, Let's Just Call Out for Pizza

It's the Morgendorffers' favorite holiday (or is that least favorite?), National Lasagna Day! Helen's serving up the first piece, so better get in line now. Unless you prefer your food to taste, you know, good.

This also happens to be International Tiger Day, and Jane's still trying to solve the dilemma of the Lady or the Tiger. Just keep away from the hair dye and everything will be fine, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria: High School Reunion, by Serrallonga (part 2): "He's a black man in his forties, dressed only with a gray jacket and a pair of red boxers with aliens drawn on them. • In Her Footsteps, by SaraJaye (COMPLETE!): "Sandi can't ever remember her parents not fighting. Sure, they've had their good moments, times when it really seemed like they got along and loved each other, but for the most part all she remembers is yelling and screaming."

  • Ow! My Ears - The Mystik Spiral Story, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "As Max Tyler's band fall into obscurity and, as of time of writing, can only open for Doors tribute bands, Mystik Spiral entered 2012 in a position of relative strength. Corporate rock finally took notice."

  • A Rumple in Time, by RLobinske (part 1): "'I can't believe that I've been in this town for almost a year,' Daria said as she and Jane sat at a break table in the student lounge of Tesla High School. 'Time flies when you don't have a clue?' Jane said."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Brittany's World Trip), by JPAGC (COMPLETE!): "Me and Ashley continue in our trip. This time I'm writing from Lisbon. We arrived the day before last, and already many things happened."

Tasty Cheesy Noodle Goodness!

Happy National Lasagna Day, lasagna lovers! Of course, every day is National Lasagna Day at the Morgendorffer house, but maybe in honor of the holiday Helen decided to cook some entirely from scratch.

...

Okay, I'm done laughing now.

Also, space geeks will be glad to know that NASA turns 55 today. Care for some moon rock cake? Or maybe we should just stick some candles in the lasagna.

Remember to Remove the Lid if You Use a Conventional Oven!

It's National Lasagna Day! This is nothing special to the Morgendorffers, of course, but feel free to celebrate with a plate of delicious pasta today. I recommend fresh over frozen, but I won't judge.

Today is also International Tiger Day, so take this opportunity to put stripes in your hair if you've been considering it. Just don't let Daria anywhere near the hair dye, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • The Creepyling Chronicles, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "It stopped crying when he entered the nursery. There it lay, crawled up against the bars of the crib. Watching him with its tiny, abyss-black eyes set in a wrinkled face."

  • Flynn at 1111 Glen Oak (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 7): "However a minute later, after they had gone through an intersection, a back wheel came off the vehicle... • The Hunter Home from the Hill, by DeacBlue (parts 13 and 14): "When the Lanes walked into the living room, Daria looked up. 'Your parents?' At Jane's nod, she got up. 'Mr and Mrs. Lane, I'm Daria Morgendorffer. Jane's my best friend.' 'I know your mom wanted to see them, Daria,' Trent said. 'That she did.' Daria went upstairs, and after a minute, came back down, followed by Helen. 'Helloo, Mr. and Mrs. Lane. I'm Helen Morgendorffer. I hope you can stay for dinner, but we really need to talk. Why don't we all use my office?'" (Part 14)

  • The Kissing Book, by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "Brittany knelt down and put her hands on Jane's shoulders. 'Let me explain.' She frowned. 'No, there's too much to say.' She sighed. 'Let me sum up. Daria is to marry Tom Sloane in a little less than a half-hour, so all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the lady, and make our escape, after I kill Li.'" (Part 11)

  • Nothing (Scenes no Daria Fanfic should ever have: Embrace the Madness), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria froze in mute horror as Jane's face came closer and closer to hers, then just when her red lips were about to meet hers, Daria recoiled in disgust and roared, 'I AM NOT A LESBIAN!'"

  • Searching For a New Hope, by thatLONERchick: "About halfway through the first set, Daria put a hand to her stomach and frowned. She had been feeling warm all night and left her jacket in the car, but even so sweat shone on her bare arms. Nausea roiled her stomach and her face felt flushed. Daria bit her lip and dreaded a fever." (SFMB)

  • Sexy Daria: Sexy Cute Models, by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria couldn’t resist a smile at the haggard looking administrator, the last couple of days had seen the Principal of Laaaaandaaaale Hiiiighhhh doing some serious damage control as the local media had a field day with everything that had happened on what they dubbed 'Glamazon Day'."

"If I don't come back, remember to take the plastic lid off the lasagna if you cook it in a conventional oven."

Depending on which source you follow, either today is or yesterday was National Lasagna Day! I suppose that for the Morgendorffers, every day is National Lasagna Day, but the rest of us can/did celebrate with a delicious slice of (hopefully non-frozen) lasagna.

Of course, according to the 1998 "Daria Day" Marathon, what the Morgendorffers almost constantly have for dinner isn't actually lasagna. "Those are actually concentrated protein and starch nutrition squares. You see, as two dimensional cartoon characters, we have very fragile digestive systems and need to take nourishment in this manner."

So enjoy your concentrated protein and starch nutrition squares as well as this fanfic update!

  • As in French (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Daria was silent for a moment, then smiled saucily and took a step forward. Jane blinked in astonishment as Daria swung her hips seductively, catching and keeping Tommy's attention with no visual effort. 'I know a party we could go to,' she crooned, wetting her lips with the tip of her pink tongue. Tommy mimicked her action unconsciously. 'Right. Now.'"

  • Boxing Ms. Morgendorffer, by Chris Tucker (part 8): "'...Jane, it's like nothing I've ever experienced. I made something solid, real. Something that has the potential to be around decades, centuries, after I die. I think I understand why you paint and sculpt, why you get so much more out of creation than I do with writing. That... that physical act of creating something tangible.'"

  • Connections (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "'All right. Make me laugh.' 'I wouldn’t waste jokes on you, Daria. The bird out on the statue has a better sense of humor.' The accusing eyes from across the rook locked on Tom, and he idly wondered why a ‘missile warning’ sound hadn’t just kicked on in the back of his thoughts. "

  • Daria, or the Confession of a Single Lonely Male, by Arena del Sur: "One Monday forenoon, in December I think, Ms. Li asked me to come over for a talk. I was particularly in blue, thinking of the menacing presence of Trent. I was in my study, looking at the snowfall, the first time in my life I saw snow, knowing that at the same moment, far away in the South, a tender and vigorous sun was rising over Don Orione. Da's last report had been good, I knew. But instead of contenting myself with the reality, I imagined all sort of horrors and had to fortify myself with a pint of mimosa before I could face the interview. Slowly, all Adam's apple and heart, I went up to the guillotine."

  • God Save The Esteem 33: A Headbutt of Dollars, by Charles RB (part 2): "'If he stays in jail too long, he’ll force them to put him on trial.' Daria sighed. 'I’ll be right there. And make sure he doesn’t use his one phone call.' There was a suspicious silence. 'He’s used it, hasn’t he.' The lounge window shattered as Quinn and Death Rowe came through it (Quinn had misplaced her keys). 'YOU GET THE BOTTLES, I’LL GET THE CAR KEYS-'"

  • Homeless Daria Episode 3: A College Try Gives Me Blisters, by RX-87 (part 14): "'Yeah, it...' Daria couldn't keep her walls up any longer. Impulsively, she grabbed Jane and hugged her tightly. 'Dammit, Jane. I was so fucking scared. I thought for a minute you were...' her voice broke a little, but she never quite sobbed. She did, however, leave a few tears of joy on her dear friend's top, despite herself. Jane hugged Daria back, speaking gently into her ear."

  • Never Been Born (Iron Chef: Mr. O'Neil gets fired), by The Angst Guy (COMPLETE!): "The cheery man with the salmon shirt was taken aback for but a moment. 'Yes,' he said with a vague gesture at the student. 'Um... you.' Daria heard the nerd behind her come to his feet, desk squeaking. Five. Four. 'Is that if we'd never been born,' said the nerd in that awful voice, 'or if we died suddenly and unexpectedly?'"

  • Rude Awakening Ep. 7: Don't Sign Me Up!, by DIsaac (part 7): "SANDI ( Looking shelled shocked): Those little bastards - they just kept coming. They are pure evil with their beady little eyes just looking at you. DANI (Equally shell-shocked): Sandi, you are so right and I take back my 'squirrels are evil' statement. Kids are Evil! Pure unadulterated evil I tell you! STACY (Just smiling at them): I thought those kids were awesome."

  • Snow White (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by untra (COMPLETE!): "It was a terribly gross bathroom. Graffiti covered the walls, the stalls stank of urine and on the floor was a used tampon, laying haphazardly against the trashcan it was aimed at. But that's not what caught Daria's attention. Rather, it was the black haired girl standing over the sink. From the looks of it, black was not her natural color, because what looked and smelled like glossy shoe polish expressed itself from her hair."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Vukodlak (COMPLETE!): "Daria and Jane lounged about her living room. Daria laid on the couch rubbed her rumbling stomach waiting for Tom to arrive home with the pizza. 'Daria' Jane said softly, 'I have a confession it involves Tom'. Daria bolted up into sitting position. 'These have never gone well...' She let out a long sigh a jab in her stomach reminding her again about food. 'Might as well get it over with.'"

  • Why Do Jane Hates Bananas? (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by DIsaac (COMPLETE!): "DARIA: Reason I'm even mention this. So Lane - the floor is yours. Why do you hates bananas? JANE: This goes back to Tommy Sherman."

Wasn't he the head Ninja Turtle?

One of the greatest fan artists of all time, Michelangelo, turns 535 years old today, hooray! And David Van Driessen is on hand to show his Highland High class Mike's most famous work, Beavis Goes Boiiinnng! (Sorry.)

Today is also Frozen Foods Day in honor of the frozen- then- microwaved lasagna that seems to be on Daria's plate at almost every meal. You think I am making up the Frozen Foods Day thing, but I am not. President Reagan made it so (see link).

PPMB
  • A Brave Dead World, by 11tee (COMPLETE!): Her hands ripped the last vestige of the football jersey away, her teeth pulling at the flesh. There was a whimper as his life ebbed. Others were closing in for the fresh kill...
  • Finn Morgendorffer 35: The Fat Chick, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 4): I have this sudden feeling that a great period in my life has just come to an end, and I never really enjoyed it, Finn thought to himself. [Just occurred to me that Sandi broke her leg in this story on the exact anniversary of the day she was shown breaking it in reality. Coincidence? I think not.]

Lasagna AGAIN?

It's that time of year when the management of the DFB2 (i.e., me) solicits suggestions from its readers (i.e., you) as to what more can be done with this blog. I know it is ephemeral as are all things, but it is a lot of fun and I would like to keep typing in it for a long time to come.

What else do we need that would help the fandom grow? Other than DVDaria, I mean. What else can this blog do for your Daria enjoyment? Drop some notes in Comments. I've gotten a lot of good ideas in the past and have used them. I just want to keep up with things.

Just checked the meter, and we've got over 86,800 hits so far in a year and a half. Cool. Keep it up.

Oh, and MDetector5 put up some great Helen art!

Plus, the 2009 Daria fanfic list was updated!
