Tasty Cheesy Noodle Goodness!

Happy National Lasagna Day, lasagna lovers! Of course, every day is National Lasagna Day at the Morgendorffer house, but maybe in honor of the holiday Helen decided to cook some entirely from scratch.

...

Okay, I'm done laughing now.

Also, space geeks will be glad to know that NASA turns 55 today. Care for some moon rock cake? Or maybe we should just stick some candles in the lasagna.

Fanfic Update!
  • As Though She Had Done It All Before..., by Shiva (part 8): "The night sky seemed to become even more spectacular as the hours flew by. Daria was sitting with Josh and Jennifer in mismatched lawn chairs in their backyard."

  • Bird Watching (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Why, oh God WHY?!), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "As the chickadees sang and the cardinals flew about, no doubt planning to elect a new Bird-Pope soon. Avid birdwatcher Daria Morgendorffer smiled as she watched nature do it's thing through a pair of brand new binoculars."

  • Consequences, by ST91 (part 3): "Clint took a deep breath and then knocked on the door of his brother's room. 'Who is it?' came from behind the door. 'Me.' Clint said, his voice high with tension. '**** off!' was Dario's reply."

  • Daria and Co. (Are Forced To) Read 'My Immortal' (Iron Chef; You're Standing on My Immortal), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Dammit!' Quinn complained, stomping her foot on the ground like a spoiled baby. 'You are up.' Daria said smugly before sitting back down with Ted."

  • Daria on Top, by PrecambrianStudios (part 1): "So, today was the first day of school. I made sure I was all prepped and everything, I put all my cosmetics and cosmetic-accessories in kit and made sure they were secure inside my bag."

  • Green Dragon Rising Book 1, by Grifter74 (part 1): "'Jane? How? When did you?' Daria stammered as she turned to face her friend and return the hug. 'Long story, you done for today? This will require pizza.'"

  • Mad Dog's Legacy Chapter 11: Wilderness Adverturers, by Hyrin (COMPLETE!): "Quinn slowly opened her eyes, squinting at the bright light above her. Dark figures hovered over her, which quickly solidified into her family."

  • A New Direction (Iron Chef: My Dad, the director), by peetz5050 (COMPLETE!): "After a while one of the people, an auburn haired girl with glasses about her own age noticed her and pointed her out to a large African American man with a radio headset and an unfriendly aspect. Jane raised an eyebrow as Muscles climbed up the bank toward her."

  • Now With Director's Commentary (Iron Chef: My Dad, the director), by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'Come on, Daria,' Jane pleaded. 'Just tell me. I don't get why you're so secretive about it. What movies has your dad directed?'"

  • Something (Slightly) Wicked Chapter 2, by macross (parts 5 and 6): "'She seems like a nice girl,' Helen said before giving Daria a surprise hug. She quickly sniffed the girl's hair then pulled back placing her hands on the girls shoulders and said with a knowing grin, 'I see you've found a decent connection in town already.'" (Part 6)

  • Sonoma Coma, by jtranser (part 10): "'Enough of that. So, Daria, are you up to creating a myth?'"

  • Twin Tracks (chapter 5), by oni (part 1): "The sound of Linda knocking on her daughter's door woke Sandi up. 'Time for school Sandi,' she called out from behind the door."

  • Unnamed story (IC: Tom Sloane, Lax Bro TAKEDOWN!), by Silver (COMPLETE!): "Shaundi wasn't sure who this idiot bro was. Shane, Shawn, Sloane maybe? That was it, Tom Sloane."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Why, oh God WHY?!), by Silver (COMPLETE!): "Quinn forced herself to sit up, her head throbbing. What the hell had she done last night?"

  • Victor Morgendorffer, by Shiva (part 18): "'"Fancy buildings for a party school.' Victor commented quietly as he and Daria made the tail end of the Morgendorffer's little group as they strolled the main campus of Middleton University."

  • Who Ya Gonna Call? (Iron Chef: My Dad, the director), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "'Hey kiddo, don't you think all ghost stories are optimistic?' Jake asked."

"Of the people, by the people...for the presidents!"

Happy Presidents Day! Washington and Lincoln may be jerks on Holiday Island, but perhaps they're just grumpy because they have to share a holiday.

Today is also the 50th anniversary of Mercury-Atlas 6 mission, in which John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth. Not a bad trip, I'd say! You can talk about the mission at the PPMB, as well.

I Always Cry at Weddings

A mere 28 years ago, Beavis and Butt-head... no, sorry, I meant Lady Diana and Prince Charles got royally hooked up. I mention this only because of the awesome B&B image at right from This Book Sucks. Today is also NASA's 51st birthday. Life goes by so fast.

Moar eventually.

PPMB
  • Daylight: Falling from Grace: I Should Have Been Home Yesterday, by Disco316 (COMPLETE!): That was five years ago, when the government was in chaos. Now, that chaos had been mostly calmed, and President Senerchia’s forces depended on Burt’s forge to keep their horses shod and their sabers sharp.
  • The End of Resistance, by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): She awoke in darkness with the knowledge that she was not alone. With deliberate slowness she sat up and pulled the sheet off of her legs. They had finally come. That knowledge came with a surprising and almost palpable sense of relief. A bitter little smile twisted her lips and for the first time in what felt like a century she spoke in her mother tongue. "So you've found me."
  • Falling into College 69: Two Intents, by Richard Lobinske (Part 2): "He served his sentence, there's nothing I can do about it except make sure that the probation stipulation that he have absolutely no contact with Daria or us is rigidly enforced." "But what if he doesn't?" "He'd better hope that I don't find him first."
  • Iron Chef: Daria Is Raven's Apprentice, by Project Pegasus (continued): "Friend Raven, I have been to the fourth wall mail slot and have returned with the comments on our thread." "Hand ‘em over." "No! We’ll answer them together." "But I like opening your mail!"
  • Legion of Lawndale Heroes Gold Team, by Roentgen (Part 6): For Tom, the trip was forever. There was simply too much racing through his head. He was worried about leaving Daria behind, but he just had to know more about Edmund and Edmund's new friends.
  • Rolling the Dice, by Ajar (Part 2): “You don't want to investigate the source of the screaming?” said Jane. “Why would I want to do that?” Sandi asked. “So I can discover what horrible thing scared this person?” [Just so you know, this story is NOT my fault!]
  • Silvered, by Tscroggs (fragment): Everything was going great, until Quinn froze completely in the middle of both step and sentence. “Wha…” Stacy began, before Daria’s arm shooting up stopped her. Stacy had to bite back a sound as almost eight men she had never seen before came out of the alley in front of them.
  • Unnamed story (Second Coming of the New Ideas Thread), by Trscroggs (Part 1): “Well this is a shock. I take a meditation break and decide to investigate an open contract pulse. And what do I discover but a young lady who’s just used the contract phase to delay her own death.”
  • Vigilante, by Lorenzo Sauchelli (Part 3): She opened her notebook and started speed-reading her notes, then replied. “The supposed bullies and the friends are the same people. According to them, she was the one that came with the nicknames.”

  • The Fall of the Angst Lords, Part 1: Rebels Without a Clue, by Gouka Ryuu (Part 1): With a mandolin in one hand, he awoke late... I guess that counts as practice, per Trent. A bit of faanfiction (spelling is correct) for all.
  • Long Trek Home, by Ranger Thorne (continued): Jane and Jennifer had practiced the biofilter regimen several times, but it didn't keep the two from being nervous. "That's one," Jennifer said finally.
  • Order and Chaos, by Legendeld (COMPLETE!): Maria looked down at the wooden plate in front of her and tried to keep an open mind. Seconds later she turned to Daria and begged in a desperate voice: “Please tell me this isn’t frog!”
  • Snuffed Animals, by Disco316 (Part 11): Quinn shuddered. “Eeeeew! Vampirism is so gross! Well, except for that 'Interview with Brad Pitt' movie; he’s good in anything.”
  • Stacy Rowe, Seeker (Part II), by jtranser (continued): "We have many different enemies, Great Lady, so we must make haste. The stars and planets are approaching the required conjunctions, and there are those who would use those alignments for their own purposes."

Happy 50th Birthday, NASA!

Yes, space fans, today is the 50th birthday of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Funny to think that I am older than NASA is.

Some great new art is in. MDetector5 offers two (1, 2) "Attempted Helen Drawings," which I think make her look years younger, twenty-ish or so. Post what you think of them on PPMB.

Also, we have hysterical short comic by Breitasparrow called, "Proper Punishment." I must admit this is a side of Daria I have never seen before. Bizarre. You gotta see it.

Wouter wants to revive the old "Cartoon Girls who are like Daria" thread on PPMB. I cannot find the older thread, but when I do I will post its link.

Legendeld has posted again to Legendeld's Rantings. Now, everyone make him post some more.

A teaser is available on PPMB on Legion of Lawndale Heroes, chapter 13.2, from Brother Grimace. It's called "Angel of the Morning." Enjoy away.

Beavis and Butt-head take a close look at . . . Uranus

The English astronomer Sir William Herschel discovered Uranus 227 years ago tonight, in a place called Bath. Rather than make crude, childish jokes about this event and insult your intelligence, Beavis and Butt-head (in an essay from Reading Sucks) will do it for me. Just click here. They even mention Daria.

I didn't have anything else to report.

Uranus. Huh huh huh huh, huh huh huh huh . . .
