Marianne, the Only Woman More Overworked than Helen

Marianne is just trying to remind Helen that today is Administrative Professionals' Day and would it be all right if she picked up a card for herself on her lunch break? Helen really doesn't care, because as far as she's concerned Marianne is basically background noise anyway.

Fanfic Update!
  • Cops And Robbers And Magic, by psychotol (part 17): "Jennifer Honey walked through the living room to get to the kitchen, turning the TV onto the news so she could hear some events that had occurred as she had her breakfast."

  • Daria (and other characters) on the Defiant Round Robin, by EntrancedCat (part 53): "Daria Victoria and Danielle Todds wordlessly agreed to keep Daria Judith between them as they walked to the turbolift."

  • Decisions, by elainefr (part 14): "Daria stood at the window to her apartment looking but not really seeing the traffic outside. So much had happened since she had left Lawndale..."

  • Graduations, by dmsfanman (part 1): "Tom Sloane checked his phone and the display showed him that he had only about 20 minutes to get to Daria's apartment. He was nearly running from the arrival platform to the 'T' – Boston's subway."

  • High School Never Ends, by Princess_Pasta (part 7): "Bloomingdale's was quiet for a Thursday afternoon which left the three of them to search in peace. Sandi was armed with her father's black card and a lot of patience."

  • On The Road, by elainefr (part 39): "'Hey sis,' Quinn greeted the smaller woman once the door was answered to the apartment that her sister now shared with Jane."

  • A.R.C CHAPTER 9 Babysitting, by ST91 (part 3): "Back at home Andrea found her mother sitting at the kitchen table buried under a mountain of paper."

  • Unnamed story (LLH - Short Entries), by Roentgen (part 9): "A lone car pulled up at The Tower. Getting out of the car was a young woman with a pressed shirt, military slacks and wearing a beret emblazoned with some sort of arcane insignia."

"If there isn't anything more to do, you know, I thought maybe I could go home and say good-bye to my loved ones."

Happy Administrative Professionals' Day! I'm sure that this single greeting card holiday more than makes up for the mountain of stress and overwork that crushes Marianne every single day.

Hmmm. Deeply stressed, completely dominated by Helen, no apparent backbone at all...has anyone ever done a Jake/Marianne shipper? They have an awful lot in common.

"Appreciation" is Just as Good as a Pay Raise, Honest!

It's Employee Appreciation Day! Helen's overworked assistant Marianne is going to celebrate by getting Helen yet another cup of coffee, sending two dozen high-priority faxes, fielding an endless stream of phone calls from irate clients, pretending to laugh at Eric's jokes, and trying to remember the last time she actually slept.

We, on the other hand, will celebrate with the latest news update!

Lucky Strikes Out

Nine years ago this very day, "Lucky Strike" premiered, closing in on the end of season five. A previous post offered some interesting information about this episode, see what you think of it. Wish we knew who the two black teachers were. They sort of magically appeared in this episode, then were never seen again. And the coach never got a speaking part. Alas.

Marianne, the legal assistant in Helen Morgendorffer's office, has a special day today (but no benefits thereof): it's Legal Assistants Day! Now she can shut up and get back to work, there's a deadline.

Today is also Purple Day (commemorating those with epilepsy), Prince Kuhio Day in Hawaii, and the birthday anniversary of poet Robert Frost and Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy. By some accounts it is also Opposite Day, but you figure out what to do for that one. It might not be Opposite Day. Or maybe it is.

The Awesome Kem has drawn Kevin as Inspector Gadget, Brittany as his sidekick, and their dog as their dog. Dig it!

PPMB
  • NEW! Apocalyptic Daria: Timeline, by Doggieboy (Part 3): In Kentucky, Major General Bartholomew J. Simpson and his wife are driving south on Interstate 65 after leaving Standford Louisville International Airport. That is when they hear the first reports of Washington and Pittsburgh being bombed.
  • NEW! Cynic and Violence, by Peapotmaster (Part 2): "The planet is called Lawndale." "What kind of idiot names their planet Lawndale?" "Nerdy fan fiction writers who have nothing to do."
  • Finn Morgendorffer 39: That S-E-X Word, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 1): Finn smiled. “You know I never asked, how did your date go last Saturday with Kelly?” “Fan-tastic,” Jeffy cheered. “How fantastic?” Joey, who was already starting to dress, joined in. “We went to the movie, then to the café. She was enjoying herself the whole way, and I was piling on that Mercer charm. Then we got back to her place, she invited me in, and, well...I scored! Woo!” Jeffy thrust his hips in celebration. Please point that in another direction, Finn thought to himself. [NEW! Part 2 here: Finn hung up the phone. Now he was even more depressed about the whole sex issue. Here was Daria, antisocial and a total misfit, now getting chewed out for having sex. With Tom. Finn’s best friend. Finn wasn’t sure whether to be angry or ashamed. Now even his own sister was having sex before he was. What did that make him? Nervous? Timid? Not interested in girls?]
  • NEW! General Semantics, Private Angst, by Gwrtheyrn (Part 20): She reconstructed it in this way: Mackenzie's orders were to kill Amanda Lane, and 'X,' and maybe Jane as well, but to leave "Enro's favourite cousin" strictly alone. She'd prevented him from carrying those instructions out. But, had Mackenzie deliberately been complicit in his wife's murder? Had that whole gruesome tableau been served up just to convince Daria of his bona fides?
  • NEW! Last Man Standing, by Project Pegasus (COMPLETE!): "So, ummm... I'm reading a book and... it's about John Milton and..." "Woah woah woah. This is your first self-insert, and you chose to blow it like this? You could have at least done something halfway interesting with your first self-insert like go to the Adult Entertainment Expo or something." "But... I thought we could... I dunno, have a fun adventure together. Like, we could do so many Jägermeister shots together that you become too drunk to make it back to your place so you have to stay at my place. When we get there, you come on to me in your drunken stupor but I gently rebuff your advances, informing you that I want you, but not like this and..." "Yeah, that's not happening."
  • Nobody Puts Quinn in a Corner! by Shull Bitter (Part 1): "I don't really think you'd fit in at Hampshire College. It's Shaggy." Quinn wrinkled her forehead, not ugly though, but cute like a puppy. "What's Shaggy?" "You know, from Scooby Doo? There's a legend about the characters on that show being based on Hampshire College and the schools around it. And Hampshire is Shaggy." "Ooooooh." A pause. "What school is Daphne?"

Monday, again?

Don't you hate it when that happens? You're having a perfectly good weekend with a tropical storm passing by and then...bang. Monday hits you and spoils everything.

To help ease into another Monday back at whatever consumes your life, how about a little light reading from Crusading Saint that takes a look at one of the shows unsung background characters.

It's Secretaries Administrative Professionals Day!

Administrative Professionals Day is the last Wednesday in April, when we honor the Mariannes of the world, cruelly oppressed by their crazed evil overlords and forced to beg for time off from work during natural disasters to save their families. Give an AP a hug today, unless that would be inappropriate and get you sent to Human Resources for a good talking-to.

The unquenchable fuel tank of DariaWiki continues to fill with high-octane information poured from the able gas pumps of Quiverwing, Scissors MacGillicutty, Brother Grimace, Richard Lobinske, Roentgen, Nighthawk, Dennis, Taryn, Tosy, Cyde, Dr. Mike, and others, keeping our fandom speeding down the virtual highways of the Interblogcybernet and into tomorrow. I never metaphor I didn't like.

Let's see what's going on with some of the smaller message boards. Two important news notes first.
  • The Fandom MB has been taken offline. Little content was present.
  • The Illusion TV MB might have virus-infected webpages, so use caution. One of my antivirus systems (Avira) alerted me to this.
As for the other MBs:
Nothing new on SFMB for days. Oh, well. More news later.
