A Special Day for Quinn's Adopted Cousin!
Alison and Lindy have decided to celebrate National Adoption Day by taking in three kids to raise on a farm, apparently. This is one of the stranger alter egos from "Is It College Yet?" and I fear for those kids if either of those two young women are still dealing with the same character flaws as before.
I hope that Jake gets to celebrate National Cashew Day with what he considers the ultimate nut. He might be able to get some from It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty World, unless it closed down after Kevin and Daria's brief yet disastrous stint working there.
Finally, happy birthday to this very blog, the Daria Fandom Blog II! It was on this day in 2007 that The Angst Guy made the first post here. I may have taken over when he left, but it will always be his blog as far as I'm concerned!

Happy Turkey Day to Everyone in the U.S.!
Looks like Pilgrim Quinn will be missing out on the Thanksgiving feast, but I don't suppose it's a great loss. It's not like she was going to have anything aside from a few carrot sticks and maybe a long sniff of pumpkin pie.
If she does feel like having a snack later, she could always celebrate National Cashew Day. As Jake says, they are a first-class nut! Not like those wannabe peanuts.
Finally, happy anniversary to this very blog, which first went online on this day in 2007. Sixteen years later, it's still going and old enough to get its driver's license!
Fanfic Update!
- Spider Quinn 03: Comes Great Responsibility, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Jane knocked on Daria’s door. 'Come in,' Daria said."

Have a Nutty, Nutty Holiday!
Jake's all set to celebrate National Cashew Day by eating the CEO of nuts. I think Daria will pass on this one, though, because I'm sure she's had more than her fill of nuts, thank you very much.
And happy anniversary to this very blog! It's been a long strange trip and I don't expect it to end anytime soon.

I Hope Helen's Credit Card Can Handle the Strain
The Fashion Club is ready to go for Black Friday, and I pity the crowds that get in their way today. Just beware of shopper's cramp, girls!
Meanwhile, I'll be joining Daria and Jane for Buy Nothing Day, but that's less of a protest against consumerism than it is pure laziness on my part.
Finally, today marks the eleventh anniversary of this very blog, begun on this day in 2007 by awesome writer/fan/blogger/human being The Angst Guy. Happy birthday, you wonderful old fandom blog!

And This is a Very Nutty Blog!
Jake's trying to figure out exactly what kind of nut he's holding so that he can properly celebrate National Cashew Day. Don't worry, Jake! If you don't have any cashews, you can pick some up at It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty World.
On another note, today is the ninth anniversary of this very blog, the Daria Fandom Blog II. The Angst Guy began posting on this day in 2007, and it's continued with only occasional interruptions since then. Thanks, TAG!

It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty Blog Anniversary!
Jake's contemplating his favorite nut for National Cashew Day, and if cashews have hijacked your brain then head on over to It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty World and pick up a bag. Remember: if they don't smile, the nuts are free!
Today is also the eighth anniversary of this very blog, as The Angst Guy began the Daria Fandom Blog II on this day in 2007. He may not be actively contributing to it anymore, but his creation is still going strong.

Just in Time for a Nutty Anniversary!
Happy anniversary to the Daria Fandom Blog II! On this day four years ago, The Angst Guy posted the first entry on this very blog. Thanks, TAG! I've posted a penguin just for you. (I thought about going with the penguin from "I Loathe a Parade," but even I'm not that cruel.)Today is also National Cashew Day! Jake Morgendorffer invites everyone to join him in celebrating, and reminds us that, "Now cashews, those are what the big guys eat...the CEOs!"
Last, but not least, today is the 48th anniversary of the first episode of Doctor Who. All the Who fans in Daria fandom should check out Yui Daoren's Doctor Who Gives A Damn, Galen "Lawndale Stalker" Hardesty's The House on Space-Time Lane, and Ranger Thorne's Lane Change series if they haven't already!
Fanfic Update!
- Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (part 6): "'I had this odd dream. Daria had a twin sister and she was here.' Quinn said as she poured herself a bowl of cereal. 'Quinn honey, it wasn’t a dream.' Said Helen. 'Gahhh!' said Quinn, who stopped pouring her cereal. 'What?'"
- Legion of Lawndale Heroes: Volume Three (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (parts 1 and 2): "The boy looked at Anne, looked his car over, and turned back to her. 'You’re a behavioral sciences major.' Anne flashed her smile once more. 'Film and television production – I’m a scriptwriter. I love police procedurals. I’m Anne.' She extended her hand, and the boy shook it. 'Tom. Tom Sloane.' 'Well, "Tom, Tom Sloane from out East" – you could show off your car to a poor little Midwest girl who’s taken a moment away from her books.'" (Part 2)
- A New Set of Rules, by Dennis (part 22): "Finally, after what seemed like forever, the waiter brought the check. Watching Kevin struggle against all reason to thank 'mon-sewer,' Daria had a sudden insight. Once they were back in the car, she shared it with Kevin. 'So,' she said. 'Did you enjoy dinner?' 'Uh, yeah,' he said. 'It was, you know, I mean—' 'It was lousy.'"
- No One Is To Blame (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (parts 3 and 4): "A male voice, filled with mirth, spoke up. 'Not the smartest boy in the world.' 'Wrong again,' a female voice replied. “The problem is he’s too smart. He’s thinking instead of just jumping in... and she’s just letting him play out on the line before she takes control, and reels him in. I’ve seen it so many times before...'" (Part 4)
- A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (part 8): "'Man,' Link said, sounding angry but not at Kevin, 'if it was my dad, I'd tell him where to go!' 'Yeah?' Kevin asked, not sure how to respond. 'Yeah!' Link's face was more animated than Kevin had ever seen him before. 'You know what you should do? You should go up to the jerk and tell him he's the one who's a loser!'"
- Save the Last Trance for Me, by jtranser: "'For instance, one of my distant predecessors liked to throw out complicated riddles, filled with rewards and/or punishments, depending on the answers given.' 'Sort of like the Lady and the Tiger, right?' 'Actually, the Lady is sitting in the stands and there's a tiger behind each door.' 'So, the actual goal is to find the exit, right? Sounds more like Reality to me.' 'Doesn't it though?'"
- Tigresses of Summer (reposted), by taishigi (parts 2 - 4): "'I'll be returning in ten weeks; it's not college yet,' Daria pointed out. 'Anyway, you used to send us away to that grisly Camp Grizzly.' 'I know, but to be honest, that was just to have a break. This, this is the first taste of the future . . . my little girl is almost grown and gone,' Jake admitted sadly. 'Dad, come on, Quinn's your little girl.' Jake shook his head. 'No, she's our princess; all girl, bouncy and cute and all that. But you, you're my little girl.'" (Part 3) (Part 4)
- Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Ranger Thorne (COMPLETE!): "Much to Jane’s surprise, Daria was standing at the end of the sidewalk waiting for her. At least, that’s what Jane thought she was doing. But instead of looking toward Jane or her house, Daria was staring into the distance. 'So,' Jane asked, 'what’s new?' When music started playing Jane took a moment to look around. So she was a little surprised a moment later when Daria started to sing."

Anniversaries and Time Lords

Three years ago today, The Angst Guy posted the first entry in this very blog. Happy birthday, DFB2! And if you're reading this, thank you, TAG!
November 23rd was also the day the BBC aired the first episode of Doctor Who, in 1963. Both Yui Daoren's Doctor Who Gives A Damn and Ranger Thorne's Lane Change series have crossed Daria with Doctor Who, so have at 'em!
New Fanfic!
- Appearance of the Morning Star, by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "The scream that flowed from Daria as her breakfast tray went flying hurt the ears of the three dogs that lived in the house two doors down, and nearly deafened Jake for several seconds. 'It's Lynn!' Daria shrieked, losing total control of her body functions; frozen with terror, her fingers began tearing through the fabric and stuffing of the armrests as her began to shake uncontrollably."
- Eye on the Ball, by HolyGrail2007 (part 3): "Jake looked around and wondered if Helen had arrived yet. It was really too bad she had to miss this. But he didn’t see her anywhere. She worked so hard, and Jake was really glad to have her as a wife. Aside from being a ravenous tiger in the bedroom, she was intelligent and capable, and she got a lot of things done when she set her mind to it. It was a great role model for the kids to have. Not like bungling him."
- The fiercest battles lie within, by VPrad (part 26): "The teenagers’ faces reflected the pure terror of somebody facing a premature death. They all were thinking about all the things from life they would miss, every single moment spent with their loved ones, all those things they would never be able to say."
- God Save The Esteem Ep12: Misery, Clicked, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "'You’re admitting that the school fails to teach literacy? That seems a strange thing to do if you think I’m a whistleblower.'" (Part 3)
- Halloween Treats, by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "Jake took a step back as he saw his wife step out of the shadows and into the light from the bathroom; his stomach felt as though it would violently empty itself at any moment as he looked at Helen..."
- Hope (Whatever happened to Tommy Sherman), by LadieT (COMPLETE!): "Over the past couple of weeks, the anger has subsided some, but it was soon joined by pain and sadness. Now, like Pandora's Box once it was opened and the evils released, all that is left is hope."
- Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 25): "Helen cringed for a moment and asked Jake to have the kids join them. When everyone was in the living room, Helen drew a long breath. The happiness of the day had been momentarily halted by one sentence."
- Legends Of The Metal, by TheExcellentS (part 6): "Eventually, the mosh pit offensive brought them to the Killmasters lair at the top of the mountain. The retreat was littered with candles and stones, while more metallic webs were strewn all around. Several young women in matching leather jackets sat on stone thrones arranged in a semi circle."
- Letting Go, by Raskolnikov (COMPLETE!): "For a moment, so brief it made him wodner that perhaps it was just his imagination, he saw a silent plea behind those walls of glass. It was barely a whisper, but he was used to a relationship where the most important things wasn't adressed directly. For a tenth of second, she was begging for him to agree with her, to confirm her that she was not mistaken, and that he wanted that as badly as she did."
- Raft College: The First Year, by rglovejoy (part 36): "Right now, she had a job to do. Her books were laid out on the small table by the window overlooking Crestmore Yard. She had a clear view of Crestmore House, the university's main administration building. It was about nine o'clock on a Thursday night, and she was on a stakeout."
- Scarlett the Fairy Goes out for a Pizza, by Aloysius (part 1): "One fine day, Scarlett the Fairy decided that she wanted to have a pizza. Not just any pizza, either, but a Chicago-style stuffed crust pizza, filled with pepperoni, mushrooms and fresh spinach. The main problem with that, however, is that the further away you get from Chicago, the less likely you are to actually find such a pizza."
- Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Younger Tom), by Quiverwing (COMPLETE!): "Within seconds, an excited five-year-old emerged through the door of the lounge. 'Brrrrrrrom! Which one’s mine, mummy?! Which one’s mine?!,' Tom asked with a smile across his face."
- Whatever Happened to Sandi Griffin (Whatever happened to Tommy Sherman), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "'Attitude! You don’t know what is like to be brought up by a control freak, with two brats for siblings! And to top that off, to be cast out of your own Club because you yourself had set the standards too high!' Sandi shouted. She turned back from the principal again and this time left the office."
- Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (COMPLETE!): "Lawndale seemed so dead to her now, when compared to Pepper Hill. Given that it was in a city, that wasn’t surprising, but, even more than the lack of many things to do, everything reminded Quinn of who she was: The boys she exploited, the utter lack of basic humanity she showed them. She may have been a bit better to the girls, but not by much: Fashion Club hopefuls were as easy to exploit as boys, only they could pick out makeup without seeming strange."

The DFB2 Turns Two!

It's PARTY TIME!The Daria Fandom Blog II is now two years old. It had 51,000 hits last year at this point, and now has over 128,000. Thanks go to CINCGREEN for inspiring me with the DFB1, thanks go to all DFB2 followers and readers for your support, and thanks especially go to Viacom-Paramount-MTV-etc., for giving us Daria on DVD next year as our long-hoped-for and long-awaited treat.

Outpost Daria has updated! Go thither and rejoice!
Other Important Historical Date-things Today
- Harpo Marx was born this day 121 years ago. Jane Lane offers a snarky comment about a lesser known Marx Brother.
- The very first episode of Doctor Who premiered 46 years ago today on the BBC. Daria fanfic crossovers with this wonderful SF show include Yui Daoren's "Doctor Who-Gives-a-Damn," Ranger Thorne's "Lane Change," and Lawndale Stalker's work-in-progress "The House on Space-Time Lane" —epic stories all!
- An eloquent defense of the freedom of speech and freedom of the press, the Areopagitica, was published 364 years ago by John "Paradise Lost" Milton. I hadn't heard of it either, but quotations from it are astounding and very applicable to this fandom. Some of my favorites:
Who kills a man kills a reasonable creature, God's image; but he who destroys a good book, kills reason itself, kills the image of God, as it were in the eye.
A good book is the precious lifeblood of a master spirit, embalmed and treasured up on purpose to a life beyond life.
Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties.
FF.net
- Another Pie, by Yami White Rain (COMPLETE!): "All I'm saying," Tom said, "I'm just not sure what king of self respecting dictator would take over Lawndale of all the places in the entire world." Daria paused from taking a bite from her slice of pizza. "He has a point. It's kind of insultingly easy to get them riled up."
- Finn Morgendorffer 16: Ambrosia Vinaigrette, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 2): “Instead of reading a story for its moral dimensions, why don’t you write one with moral dimensions?” “Excuse me?” “Daria, you are one of this school’s most talented writers, and your writing style is, well, it’s a little unpleasant, but it’s very well written.”
- Legion of Lawndale Heroes Mini: Part of the Solution, by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): The intercom on the desk sounded. “The representatives from the Society are here,” the voice spoke up. “Shall I take them to the conference room?” A woman’s voice responded. “Yes—and make sure that they are comfortable.”
Moar l8r. Stay tooned.

Back to the beginning
Let's see if this works. This link connects to the first few days' posts on this blog. That would be November 23-25, 2007. From here, you can read how it all started and go through the blog in proper chronological order, all 900+ posts of it. You can kind of follow along from last year if you want to see how this has grown. I also need the link for fixing up some older posts that aren't as spiffy as the more recent ones.
Anyway, back in time you go. Funny, it seems like I wrote some of these posts only a couple weeks ago. Others I don't remember making at all. Weird how memory works.
EXTRA NOTE: In case newcomers have not noticed, this blog is searchable not only by using the search engine at top left, but by clicking on Labels below. If you see a label that looks interesting, clicking on it will drag up all other posts with the same label. Great shortcut for researching things for a story, if you are.

Happy Birthday, DFB2

Today is the first anniversary of the start of this blog. Isaac Newton once said, “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” The same is true here. My hat is off to the original Daria Fandom Blog and its creator, James "CINCGREEN" Bowman, and all who posted there, for their work. Thank you.Over 51,000 hits have been recorded here over the last year. The fandom is producing a flood of material in written and visual works, albeit of the alternate-universe variety for the most part but still with significant canon or near-canon creations. Bless us all.
It was about this time of year, some years ago, that fandom character Kyle Armalin experienced a major change in life as a teenager. For details, read Brother Grimace's "It's All About Respect."
Some news to note on Legendeld's blog. Latest entry to DariaWiki: Wagon Train to the Stars, from Brother Grimace.
It was also about this season that the events detailed in "The Daria Horror Picture Show" took place. Read and enjoy.

Here We Go Again, Again
I know I am going to regret this, but that never stopped me before, so . . .
Having hit a creative brick wall of late, but wanting to stay active in both writing and in Daria fandom, I've decided to start a fandom blog modeled after a much better and more interesting predecessor, The Daria Fandom Blog (now extinct, or at least extremely dormant). I respectfully take off my hat to CINCGREEN for the great work he did on that earlier blog and to everyone else who helped him.
[respectful pause]
Okay. This is a blog about Daria fandom, fanfiction, fan art, fans, etc. I have no idea what will be in it, as I am making this up as I go along. I am not even sure how to do all the neat things the previous blog did, like adding pictures and stuff, but I will try to figure it out as we go. (Yes, I see the "add image" icon, but I don't know what it does. I will experiment with it later.)
This is a chance for me to try something new and creative in the fandom and avoid burnout, plus kill time and goof off when I should be cutting up the leftover turkey and storing it away in small Tupperware boxes. Whatever. Wish me luck, and I hope you enjoy having another place to look at Daria-related stuff online. Party on.
