On the Road Again

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the premiere of a great Daria episode, "Road Worrier." Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of the appearance of "Ill," and the 17th anniversary of the Beavis and Butt-head episode "Sign Here" (a.k.a. "Petitions Suck"), which featured Daria as well. So much win...

Sorry for having to post and run. Moar on the wai todai.

BREAKING NUDES! (Huh huh huh, I said nudes, huh huh huh.) Are 30 more NEW episodes of Beavis and Butt-head on the way to us? It's just a rumor, but what a rumor! If Daria isn't featured in them, perhaps Cassandra will be.

MOAR BREAKING NUDES! (Huh huh huh huh.) Quiverwing has posted the new rules for the 2010 Daria Fanworks Awards. Read 'em and start making out your lists! (I need to update the fanfiction list, sorry.)

OTHER BREAKING NUDES! (Uh-huh, uh-huh.... forget it.) What's the difference between drama and melodrama, and why should we care? Read the thread and see.

Charliefox2012 needs help finding a fanfic. See if you know which story he's talking about, I don't believe I've seen it before.

A Question of Altitude

Not to press the point too much about Daria being stumpy or anything, but this is another shot from Tainted Meat, part of the B&W class photo taken with Daria in the front row. Beavis is off-screen scratching himself. We have a nice shot of the two Kimberlys, Butt-head, and even part of Cassandra at left. Punk Kimberly is a head taller than Daria, who was probably about 5'1" here (she grew an inch in Lawndale, I assume). The Kimberly in back, and Butt-head too, are standing on risers so we can't tell how tall they are compared to Daria, exactly.

Anyway, just an interesting thought. Wonder what Daria thought about being shorter than everyone else. She looks like such a little thing. I don't recall much being said about this in fanfic.

Cassandra's Role Model

An extra note. Cassandra's role-model, k.d. lang, is 47 today. She mentioning this in the Beavis and Butt-head episode, "The History of Women" (which can be seen online here, thanks to MTV).

Ciao. Back again. Richard Lobinske has updated the 2008 Visual Fanworks list, but (cough) the fanfiction part is still behind. I hope to catch that up this week.

I would like to create a DariaWiki entry for "Secret History" fanfiction, stories that give a behind-the-scenes look at what was "really" going on during the show. (Read this Wikipedia entry for a full description.) However, I can think of only two stories off the top of my head that fit this: "A Hard Day's Night" and "Scarlett." Does anyone know of any non-TAG Daria stories that are also secret histories?

PPMB
  • Babysitting, by Legendeld (COMPLETE!): Daria spent most of the day reading nearby, more to keep an eye on Jane who had tried to sneak a riding crop in the garage once the workers showed up.
  • Order and Chaos, by Legendeld (Parts 2 and 3): Quinn flicked the long braid thin braid of a Padawan over her shoulder as she felt more than a slight twinge of pain while picking herself up off the floor of the basement.
  • Unnamed story by SoCalledGoodeGuy (COMPLETE!): A rather startling response to an Iron Chef (What Did You Do in the War, Mommy?).
  • Upholder of the Good, by SoCalledGoodeGuy (Part 1): Just another morning run for Jane Lane. Wind in her hair, Splendora in her ears, sun in her eyes, boot to the head.

Random Filler Stuff

The number of fans on the Daria Fan Club is up to 880, but the problem with the image server has not yet been fixed. The site is still fully functional.

Of the 1,894 articles on DariaWiki, the last two articles that were worked on were about Cassandra (seen at left in class at Highland High, in the Beavis and Butt-head episodes) and Tommy Sherman. I have a pile of notes to add about Tommy in the next few days. He's a very interesting character in many respects, and his death is interesting (and weird) as well.

Why isn't Cassandra in more fanfics? Weird.

On PPMB, the Mighty Deceleraptor has proposed a new Iron Chef: "Write a fanfic, ficlet, tome, etc., about any of the Daria characters on a trip to another country. It must be a country you don't already live in. Here's the inspiration: http://outpost-daria.com/art_daria_world.html. Extra points if you have the character 'in mufti,' as in the 'photos.' Just have fun and be creative."

thatLONERchick has gone and written a great new story again, entirely by accident, in the thread that is supposed to contain BAD stories. This is happening entirely too often. Can no one tell the difference between good fanfic and bad? Anyway, you have to read it.

More suggestions for potential villainous encounters in Daria fanfic have been added to the PPMB thread on Irredeemable Daria Characters. True, these additions are from Beavis and Butt-head, but Daria was there, too, right? They should count. Dervish used Dallas Grimes in "Something to Shoot For." If she can do it, you can too.

FF.net
  • Mart of the Dead, by Smileyfax (Part 2): It looks like Andrea and Upchuck will have to repopulate Earth after the zombie virus kills everyone else. Where the hell are those Ringbearers when you need them?
