Stacy in a Bottle

Stacy is either experiencing a mild wardrobe malfunction or she's honoring Christina Aguilera on the singer's 45th birthday. It's very likely that the Fashion Club would be fans of the pop star, although I doubt anyone could ever take the place in their hearts that belongs to Boys 'R' Guys.

Today is also the anniversary of the birth of Joseph Stalin in 1878, which is quite a switch from modern musicians. Then again, I have never heard the Man of Steel's singing voice, so maybe it isn't such a stretch after all. I'm sure Daria and Tom would love to take the opportunity to share more fun facts about him and the rest of their favorite dictators, as long as Jane doesn't have to listen to it.

Personally, I think I'll just celebrate Bake Cookies Day instead. That way I don't have to worry about pop music or authoritarians; just tasty treats.

Fanfic Update!
  • I'm Scheming of a White Christmas, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn was giving her visibly hung over sons, Tommy and Timmy, a major scolding for what she'd caught them doing the previous night."

  • Strange Days in Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Elsewhere in Lawndale, someone else was having a similar reaction. Jane Lane was incredulous. It was impossible. But it was there. A flying saucer, in Lawndale."

  • The Times, They Are Deranging, by Kristen Bealer (part 1): "Helen Barksdale shut the door of the dorm--her dorm!--behind her parents and let out a deep breath."

  • When Worlds Collide, by SlytherinTeam (part 1): "'Nevermind, return to your world and I’ll return to mine,' Jane Lane had told Quinn Morgendorffer once in high school."

What a Fashionista Wants

Stacy's turned herself into a major walking fashion faux pas to celebrate Christina Aguilera's birthday. The pop singer was born in 1980, and when Sandi regains consciousness I'm sure she'll remind Stacy that the latest issue of Waif considers Aguilera--being over thirty--no longer "in."

Fanfic Update!
  • Ah, Hell, by metameric1 (part 24): "'I can't believe we're doing this,' Daria muttered. She reached for the tuners of the cheesy Teisco electric guitar and detuned the B and high E strings even more. Jane stopped the playback. 'We sound too good to pull off the Shaggs. It's really hard to sound that crappy.'"

  • DW: Legacy of the Doctor, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "Clara enters the restaurant. She looks around and finds Susan near the back. She sits with her. She sniffs. Susan: What's wrong? Clara: I don't know, maybe the smell? Susan: It's everywhere."

  • Lessons Learned (Ideas!), by Princess_Pasta (COMPLETE!): "Doctor Brown watched the small child in front of her with sad, sympathetic gray eyes. It was a textbook case in her opinion but she didn't have enough information to go on to make an adequate plea."

  • Redux, by Princess_Pasta (part 17): "Dega Street was practically deserted but Daria didn't expect anything more on a Thursday evening."

  • Star Trek: Daria - Resurrection, by echopapa (part 14): "'I saw all of this technology wrapped up in a starship, and I realized I wanted to know how it all worked - and to use that knowledge to keep my homeworld safe.'"

A Few Anniversaries of Fandom Note

Lots of Daria-related birthdays today (with the connections & links in parentheses). Christina Aguilera is 29 (Stacy Rowe alter ego at right); Brad Pitt turns 46 (many mentions); Steven Spielberg is 63 (Jaws, E.T.); Michael Moorcock is 70 (see here); Piltdown Man (at left) would be 97; Joseph Stalin would have been 131 (Stalin jokes); Saki would have been 139 (Clovis); and the Holiday Island High student named International Migrants Day turns nine but looks 17.

Eleven years ago today, the webmistress of one of the early major supersites, Michelle Klein-Häss of Lawndale Commons, wrote an essay about the demise of supersite Planet Daria. A year later, someone else wrote about the demise of Lawndale Commons. LC continued in a reduced capacity until 2003. The fandom's been through a lot of collapses and regrowth.

Fanfiction updates are on the way for the weekend. Stay tooned.

Rolling Stone cover, July 2000

Bingo.

i r0oL.

(Did you notice that Stacy is licking her lips?)

Dirrty?

Christina Aguilera. Stacy Rowe. They go together like...

No they don't. Anyway, it's Ms. Aguilera's 28th birthday today, and I mention this only because of the alter ego. And Steven Spielberg turns 62 today, bless his heart for Jurassic Park, velociraptors, and, by extension, Decelaraptor.
