What's in the Booooooox?

Jake is curious to see if anyone is celebrating International Box Day Daria-style, but I think that kind of behavior is limited to his daughter and every cat in the world. If you decide to spend some quality time sitting inside a box, please remember to ignore the neighbors when they begin to talk.

At least if Daria stays in her box, she won't have to worry about creating any more problems on National Kissing Day. Whether it's stealing Jane's boyfriend or freaking out her mother, kissing never seems to end well for Daria.

At least Jake can go back inside and fix himself a nice drink for National Martini Day. If any of Helen's family members drop by, he can even prepare an entire pitcher! Let's hope that doesn't happen, though, because he probably still doesn't remember what "The pigeons are at rest" means.

"Maybe we better lay off the martoonies!"

Jake's got the right idea for National Martini Day, although as far as he's concerned it's just another Friday. I remember one fanfic author once suggested that it was the olive and not the alcohol that Jake liked, and I have to say it makes a quirky kind of sense for him. Celebrate responsibly!

Today is also Take a Road Trip Day, so this would be a good day to go bust your best friend, her brother, and her brother's band out of jail. On second thought, given recent events, it's not a good day for that. Just stay home, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Backseat for No One, by EntrancedCat (part 5): "Daria woke up to the sweet smell of pancakes wafting under the door of her room."

  • Beach Daze, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Jamie White was sitting alone in a both having a slice of pizza. He looked around and noted all the differences."

  • Edicius, by elainefr (part 30): "'Who’s Tom?' 'What?' Jane pulled back from Evan abruptly."

  • Is It Show Time Yet?, by Lady Evil (part 8): "Danny was regretting his choice to put on the powder blue tuxedo before taking one last check of the lights."

  • Tell Me I'm a Wreck, by conquerlove (fullbrightness) (part 4): "I'm not the biggest fan of Bart, truthfully, but when have I ever liked Jane's taste in guys?"

Shaken, Not Kissed

Jake's got a pitcher all ready for National Martini Day! What? Oh, no, that's not for sharing. That's all Jake's, so you'd better go make your own.

Today is also National Kissing Day, but I think Daria should sit this one out. Kissing doesn't seem to end well for her, whether it's almost ruining a friendship or throwing her mother into hysterics.

Kiss and Tell

Helen is having a hard time dealing with the fact that today is National Kissing Day, but I think she'll get over it. Honestly, she looks less like she's shocked and more like she's trying not to throw up. Daria and Tom might need to work on their technique.

Jake, meanwhile, is probably having a fantastic National Martini Day, and might even have taken the opportunity to make an entire pitcher, with or without a visit from Aunt Rita. Don't forget the olives, Jake!

Would You Like Yours Shaken or Stirred?

Jake's got the right idea on this fine National Martini Day, and he's clearly in a better mood than usual. I'm not sure if it's because of the martini, though. It could just as easily be that Garfield said something funny.

Fanfic Update!
  • Ah, Hell, by metameric1 (part 18): "'We're spending a week in Hawaii, in a treehouse? This is your idea of cool?' Daria crossed her arms, fixing him with a glare."

  • Daria: College Pains Redux, by James the Lesser (part 12): "'Tony and I are going to the arts building tonight. Dantanius and Amalia are having a paint off. It should get interesting. You?' 'Nothing.' 'Then come with us.'"

  • Daria's pregnancy, by sparklingdaria (part 9): "Quinn looked at baby Matthew and said 'Isn't he the cutest little thing?'"

  • Fielding Forever, by Princess-Pasta (part 1): "Daria Morgendorffer ran her fingers over the Fielding crest that emblazoned the right side of her blazer. The letters: F, A, M, A, stood for a motto that she was now forced to uphold. Facultas, amicitia, manentia, audacia: ability, friendship, permanency, boldness. The words had no meaning to her."

  • Flat out Daria, by EntrancedCat (COMPLETE!): "'Oh no, kiddo,' her father said unable as usual to catch the sarcasm in his oldest daughter's flat, even tone. 'Today you and Quinn are gonna learn how to change a flat tire.'"

  • Ow! My Ears - The Mystik Spiral Story, by Charles RB (part 5): "It seemed like the band finally had a basis for ongoing success. 'And then they did a Spiral,' says Daria."

  • Shake, Shake, Quiver and Quake, by Kristen Bealer (parts 2 and 3): "'Buck up, Jake. If we do die out there, at least we'll die together.' Sitting up, Jake gave Randy a shaky smile. 'And maybe we'll take a few of the bastards down with us.' 'That's the spirit! Now let's go meet our doom!'" (Part 3)

  • Star Trek: Daria - Resurrection, by echopapa (part 9): "While Daria waited, she mused over the past few days. The adventure with Wesley in the holodeck had made her forget for a while, but she once again was faced with the overwhelming fact that she was stranded in a time over 300 years past her own, and absolutely everyone that she ever knew was dust."

  • Transplanted Hippie (Iron Chef: Everyone Goes to Fielding), by Shiva (parts 2 and 3): "'Sink or swim, Ethan. Sink or swim...'" (Part 3)

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Everyone Goes to Fielding), by Vukodlak (COMPLETE!): "Unbeknownst to Clayton one of the new students he'd just soaked with a water hose was seventh grader Catherine Kain. It was ironic that her torment and humiliation came from water seeing as her family fortune was founded on a popular brand of bottled water. While the other girls ran she sat there and fumed before deciding to do something about it."

  • Unnamed story ([Iron Chef – Round Robin – Free For All] Time Loops), by Wraith (part 21): "'Remember that usually-a-guy named Ranma you mentioned?' Daria nodded. 'One of the original Loopers. I take it you met him?'"

  • What is Fashion?, by Smijey (part 7): "Mr. DeMartino began to laugh. He laughed for a solid two minutes, which began to really unnerve Sandi. 'Okay, Sandi. I'll tell you what fashion is.'"

New Year's Traditions: The Countdown

It's getting close to 2010, everyone is watching TV and the music is playing and you don't see any reason why the new year should be much different from the old. And you have a point. The countdown has started, ten, nine, eight, seven...

...and then you receive a message, and it goes:
