Bake 'Em, Mash 'Em, Stick 'Em in a Stew!

Mr. O'Neill is taking an unusual method to celebrate National Potato Day, and it's quite fitting as well: his head is empty as either a plastic toy or a teacher. If Jake decides to go the "Angela's Ashtray" route by feeding the family potatoes, I hope he remembers to order the correct steak to serve with them.

Jane, meanwhile, can take some pictures of spuds for World Photography Day, because she was always quite handy with a camera. Especially if Daria was involved and doing something particularly embarrassing.

I suppose she should take pity on her friend, though, because it's World Humanitarian Day and therefore a great day to show compassion. Note to the Fashion Club, though: it takes more than a pitiful clothing drive haul or a mirror plaque to qualify as a philanthropist.

Donut Forget to Say "Cheese!"

Junk food lovers, rejoice! Today is National Cream-Filled Donut Day and all of our sweet tooths will be satisfied! If cream filling isn't your thing, then you could follow Daria's example and have a twisted little cruller instead.

Don't forget to smile, though, because it's also National School Pictures Day. I know we aren't supposed to smile unless we have a reason, but a donut is reason enough for me to smile. Can I recommend "Clouds Over Chernobyl" for a photo background?

Finally, it was on this day in 1998 that People Weekly gave Daria the opportunity to judge the best and worst dressed people of 1998. If being allowed free rein to snark about famous people didn't put a smile on her face, then seeing the faces of the Fashion Club upon learning she'd stolen their dream job certainly would have done the trick!

Boil 'Em, Mash 'Em, Stick 'Em in a Stew

I guess Daria is celebrating National Potato Day and only National Potato Day, but I'll bet she's starting to appreciate frozen lasagna a lot more than she used to. I'm hoping the thing has at least been cooked, but knowing her parents' cooking skills (or lack of), I can't be sure.

Jane, meanwhile, will probably prefer to celebrate National Photography Day. Possibly by taking a picture of Daria doing something embarrassing.

You Could Even Photograph Some Potatoes!

Jane's obviously enjoying World Photography Day, but that may be because she's using the holiday as an excuse to capture Daria's most embarrassing moments on film. Not really any different than any other day for her, really.

Today is also National Potato Day, so the Morgendorffers can gather around the table with plates of spuds again, just like a scene from Angela's Ashtray...or something.

"Quinn, get the camera!"

Jane probably just captured yet another of Daria's embarrassing moments for posterity, but that's okay because today is Camera Day! Which is my best side? I know they're both good.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Gifted," which aired on this day in 1998. Daria and Jodie learned to their surprise that Lawndale High is actually the lesser of two evils. Who knew?

Happy Camera Day! Celebrate by taking a candid humiliating photo of your best friend. Just remember to get her best side...I know, they're both good.

This is also the 15th anniversary of the episode "Gifted," in which Daria learned that she could do worse than the students at Lawndale High and Quinn had to do battle against mass serial puppy kickers. Or she did in the AU version in my mind, anyway.

Big Character, Little World

Daria would, I firmly believe, be a big fan of the writings of Jonathan Swift, particularly Gulliver's Travels. Today is the 341st anniversary of Mr. Swift's birth. I can't make out all the little people wandering on and around Daria, only a few of them. Pity.

Famed photographer Gordon Parks was born 96 years ago. Jane Lane would know all about him.

I've decided this blog needs to have more stuff. Like link buttons, at left. I am using the actual button images from MTV's 2000-era Daria website, with some modifications. Now you can have music just like the actual show had while you browse around. Might try some other things, too. It would be interesting to have this blog play Mystik Spiral tunes, but perhaps "interesting" is the wrong word here.
