But...Just the Dye?

Quinn is going to make sure everyone knows that it's World Allergy Awareness Day, or at least she's going to make everyone aware of her allergy to pistachio dye. Remember that allergies can be life-threatening, and even end a neck modeling career before it has the chance to start.

As long as you don't consume anything that might cause a reaction, please do celebrate World Food Day by eating...something. Could be cheese fries, could be frozen lasagna, could even be chewing gum if you're Ted Dewitt-Clinton! Just don't try the sushi at Tokyo Toby's.

Once Quinn gets over her ordeal, she can join her friends at Cashman's to celebrate National Department Store Day. I'm sure some serious shopping will take her mind off the unpleasantness, or at least it will until Sandi repeatedly reminds her of it for her own amusement and spite.

Fanfic Update!
  • Cynic and the Tower of Joy, by Meester_Lee (parts 1 - 3): "It came about very suddenly. One moment, the area around Tunney’s Store was there, just as it had been for decades; the next it was gone, replaced by a medieval-looking tower and a few scattered outbuildings." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Fashion Show (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Quinn Morgendorffer stood backstage at New York Fashion Week as the models were being given their final instructions."

  • TheFashionClub, by RĂ©mi (COMPLETE!): "As it was the first day of Daria and Quinn at Lawndale High, their mother was driving them to school, but truth be told, the sisters didn’t enjoy the ride one bit."

  • A Variant Lawndale 01 - Beach Party Invitation, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Suddenly, something happened. There was a rumble and the ground near the wave pool cracked."

  • Alison's Last Word, by riotsquirrrl (COMPLETE!): "Is it really a student art opening without jug wine? Jane thought as she nursed a plastic cup of red, mildly alcoholic, liquid."

Who's the Boss?

Eric is all a-flutter because he just remembered that it's National Boss's Day and he has to make sure that he asked Helen to send him a card. Knowing Helen, she already made Marianne do it.

Today is also World Food Day, so celebrate by eating food at some point today. I know I will!

Fanfic Update!
  • Career Daze, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Mrs. Donnelly is addressing her second grade class. The students include Rachel White, the Sloane Twins (Shane and Lexi), Mike Cucina, Steve Sullivan and the Carbone Triplets (Tommy, Timmy and Teddy)." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by st91 (parts 67 and 68): "It started with a click. When Daniel turned the lights off, three observers appeared behind the two-way mirrored wall." (Part 68)

  • Fate For Breakfast, by Two-Eyed Charlie (part 1): "They knew this day would come eventually, and if everything went to plan, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. Just big enough of a deal that Lawndale would know Jane Lane and Daria Morgendorffer had long memories and should quake in fear if they ever returned."

  • It's Alternative, by hideousmirror (part 1): "College life was just as dreary as high school was, well at least it was a little more freeing and the classes were more to her liking. But Daria Morgendorffer was just as miserable in Boston as she was in Lawndale."

  • Who Will Survive In America?, by ladyevil (COMPLETE!): "The ride home was dead silent with Daria in the back and her parents up front. 'If you want me to apologize,' Daria said. 'You’ll have to wait a long time.'"

Out of Rehab and Ready to Celebrate!

Eric's freaking out because it's Boss's Day, and he forgot to call Helen and remind her to send him a card. I think it's unlikely that Marianne will be honoring Helen with any great enthusiasm, either, so I guess it all evens out.

Today is also World Food Day, so let's all take the opportunity to sample some exotic Daria-inspired cuisine, like frozen lasagna--no, but how about Jake's Kitchen Sink--hmm, maybe not--but perhaps some extra-greasy pizza...?

Okay, forget World Food Day. Just try not to get indigestion, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria The Mighty, by Anguirus1955 (parts 5 and 6): "Christella Revy swam gracefully through the water of the pool, allowing herself a rare moment of relaxation as she closed her eyes moved with the flow of the substance around her." (Part 6)

  • Rollin', by 11tee (part 1): "The girl wheeled herself down the school hallway amidst sideways glances and stares. She felt every eye was one her. The rich girl. The overachiever. The black girl. The cripple."

Happy Boss's Day!

Eric Schrecter is our mascot for Boss's Day today. This is a day for "thanking workplace superiors for being kind and fair throughout the year." And while you're choking that one down, today is also World Food Day, which I assume means you celebrate it by eating. Fair enough.

It's also the birthday anniversary of the Dictionary Man, Noah Webster, and the day (over 100 years ago) when they dug up the Cardiff Giant, one of the biggest hoaxes of all time. You have to read about this one, it's great.

Oh, and three years from now, UFO nut Artie is going to shoot Angier Sloane with an alien weapon. That's about it for the news. moar l8r

What Up, My Dog?

Kevin is back once again to remind us that today is World Food Day, and it is good to know he was able to find steady work after high school.

This date figures prominently in a Daria fanfic called Diary of a Lawndale Student, by Bacner. Have a read and see.

In the news of the weird, today is the 139th anniversary of the discovery of the Cardiff Giant, one of the greatest hoaxes in American history. Would Daria ever do a thing like this? If so, what stunt would she pull? Would she fall victim to such a hoax? Would anyone believe her if she discovered a hoax like this and said it wasn't real? Food for (fanfic) thought, eh?

A really great contest on PPMB: Future Melody Powers story titles, by M.J. Pollard. These are hysterical!

FF.net
  • Give and Take, by slowlygoinginsane (Part 5): “Well, I guess I’ll see you at the dance tonight,” Daria told Tony DeMartino.

  • Up and Away We Lost Our House Today, by Gum Wars (COMPLETE!): Jake and helen [sic] were standing in the middle of the field with their new hot air ballon [sic]. Jake had put a sign by the road advertising rides for $10.
