Helen Really Kneaded the Dough

Helen is clearly regretting her decision to celebrate Homemade Bread Day, or at least wishing that she'd just used the bread machine instead. I mean, how good can her oatmeal pumpkin seed loaf be that it's worth this kind of hassle?

Mr. DeMartino, on the other hand, will happily enjoy Take A Hike Day by, well, you can figure it out. I hope he doesn't feel obligated to break any windows this time, because I'm sure the door will work just fine.

No matter how long he hikes, eventually he'll have to come back to work and confront his students. After all, it's International Students Day and those students are just waiting to answer his questions with the dumbest possible replies.

Looks like Helen is already regretting her decision to celebrate Homemade Bread Day, perhaps because hand-kneaded bread having more "soul" means you have to sell yours in order to get through the process. Just get out the bread machine, Helen!

In fact, maybe she should just forget the bread and celebrate Take A Hike Day instead! I'm sure Mr. DeMartino would be happy to join her, but hopefully she'll remember not to eat any berries she finds along the journey.

When Mr. D comes back, who wants to tell him that it's also International Students Day? If we're lucky, he'll just turn back around and take another hike until the feelings of rage subside.

Students With Filthy Hands

The students of Lawndale High seem pretty underwhelmed that today is World Students' Day, but if you had to attend Lawndale High you'd be just as unenthusiastic. Maybe Mr. DeMartino will use the day to regain his love for teaching! (Spoiler alert: he will not.)

Today is also Global Handwashing Day, and I encourage everyone to celebrate this one extra hard not just today, but every day. This holiday has never been more relevant than now!

No, Kids, You Don't Get the Day Off From School

The students of Lawndale High don't seem overly impressed that today is World Students' Day, but just wait until you see Mr. DeMartino's reaction. It won't be pleasant.

It's okay, Mr. D. Today is your day, too, because it's National Grouch Day! As one of the grumpiest characters on the show, you should definitely celebrate this one however you'd like. May I suggest a hike?

We Were All Students Once

Today is International Students Day, which has its roots in the Second World War. (Rather shocking story, really.) It would be interesting to see if any cynics we know at Lawndale High ever celebrated this day in unusual ways. Maybe Mr. O'Neill could give out homework assignments for this special day, and shocking things happen as a result. Fanfic, fanfic, fanfic... (Thanks to UU for the image!)

The Elizabethan Era began this day a mere 451 years ago, when Elizabeth I took the throne of England and Ireland. Daria appears as Elizabeth I in the alter ego below, with the Bard of All Bards who flourished in this period: Shakespeare. (Thanks to Pinhead for the images!)

Daria was born this day in 1983, according to one writer's tale: Wildgoose's "Season's End." She lives to be 100 years old.

Modified Julian Day Zero was 151 years ago today. Ah, those crazy Julian Days. I don't understand the concept at all, but it's all over the Internet, so here it is. Do with it as you will.

A Day for Students Everywhere

As you can readily tell, this is International Students Day, when we celebrate those young monsters who eventually turned into us. A scene from Daria's Highland High years shows the diversity of the modern student, but I couldn't tell you how. They all look like delinquents to me. Actually today is far more serious than that, honoring student activism in the face of genuine oppression, but you know how I get.

The very first session of the U.S. Congress was held 208 years ago, and if you want to celebrate that, be my guest.

And... two years ago a new element was discovered: roentgenum. Sound familiar?
