A Shocking Way to Celebrate!

Mr. DeMartino is clearly regretting his decision to celebrate International Kite Day during a thunderstorm, but on the bright side he just discovered a cheap method of resuscitating himself if he suffers another heart attack. If you fly a kite today, please be safe and also watch out for kite-eating trees!

I hope Quinn realizes that, even though it's National Shop For Travel Day, she should exercise restraint and--ha, I'm just kidding. Quinn has no idea how to not shop. At the very least, I hope she doesn't allow her travel gear to replace life-saving supplies.

On this day in 2002, the "Look Back In Annoyance" aired on MTV. It was a half-hour retrospective of the show, but Daria put it much more succinctly as "a cheap-ass clip show."

Poor Mr. D Is Not Having a Good Day

Mr. DeMartino should really stick to teaching history, as celebrating International Kite Day clearly isn't going well for him. At the very least, I think he might consider limiting his outdoor activities to hiking, because that comes with far lower chances of electrocution.

Better yet, he could enjoy seven days of pizza for National Pizza Week! Then again, while I'm sure he'd love having regular meals, there's no way he could afford one pizza, let alone a week's worth, on his meager salary.

I suppose his best option is to take a walk down memory lane with Daria and Jane on the anniversary of "Look Back In Annoyance," which first aired on this day in 2002. It might be a "cheap ass clip show" but at least it won't cost him anything.

Fanfic Update!
  • Katie Huegel, by Meester_Lee (parts 1 and 2): "The battered sedan slowed down to a stop outside the front entrance of the modern, well-kept high school building. 'This must be it,' said Patty Holman. 'Have a good day, honey.'" (Part 2)

  • Spider Quinn 05: The Trip to Freemont, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Upon arriving home, Daria got into the car that formerly belonged to her father, but which her mother said she and Quinn could use. She turned on the engine."

  • Titanic - A True Story, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 17): "All that Anna Coulthard could feel that day was that now she had a cold and hollow piece of rock instead of having a heart."

Happy Birthday, Toulouse le Dreck!

Happy birthday to musician Dave Grohl, also known as the voice of Daniel Dotson in Is It Fall Yet? I'm pretty sure Grohl is a much less repulsive person than his character was. He could hardly be more so, anyway.

Today is also the fifteenth anniversary of the airing of "Look Back In Annoyance." Although it was, as Daria put it, "a cheap-ass clip show," it had a few amusing moments. It also revealed that Daria dated four members of N'Sync. Which member got left out, and why? We'll never know. Fanfic fodder, perhaps?

Happy Birthday, Toulouse le Dreck!

Although Daniel Dotson was an enormous sleazebag, from what I can tell the man who voiced him, Dave Grohl, was not. So I have no problem wishing him a happy birthday!

Also on this day in 2002, Look Back In Annoyance (also known as "a cheap-ass clip show") aired on MTV. We got to learn all kinds of behind-the-scenes tidbits, including Daria's flings with four of the five members of N*Sync and Jane's dreams of working for Disney.

Looking Back, Eleven Years Ago

It was on this day in 2002 that the special "Look Back in Annoyance" aired on MTV. It was, in Daria's words, "a cheap-ass clip show," but we did get a few fun tidbits like Daria's fling with 'N Sync and Jane's aspirations of working at Disney.

Be sure to nominate for the 2012 Daria Fanworks Awards! Time is almost up!

Old Man McGrundy stared at the youth for a moment, then sat on his log with a weary sigh. 'And where did you hear that, girl?' The blond opened her mouth to respond, but was preempted. 'From your father, no doubt.'"

  • The Divine Cynic, by PrecambrianStudios (part 2): "Gods? Huh. How about that. And I'm a half-god. That probably comes with some perks. Now if only this dream could go on forever. However, why would my dreams include Quinn?"

  • Dylan, by J-D (part 16): "Coach sighed. 'Kris, if you flunk Language Arts there's nothing we can do to keep you on the team.' 'Then we just have to make sure I don't flunk Language Arts, right? You can have a word with Ms FitzPatrick, right?'"

Very annoying."

"Don't look now, but it's Toulouse le Dreck."

Happy birthday to Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, also known to fandom as the voice of Daniel Dotson from Is It Fall Yet? The young at heart but "delusional of mind" artist may have been a jerk, but let's not hold it against Grohl. Unless he's a fan of white-on-white painting, too.

Today is also the tenth anniversary of the airing of Look Back in Annoyance, a half-hour special/clip show that aired a week before the premiere of Is It College Yet? In it, we learned that Daria dated four of the five members of N'Sync behind the scenes (according to Jane, anyway). Sadly, we never learn which member failed to make the cut.

Finally, the nominations for the 2011 Daria Fanworks Awards are now posted. Time to get your votes in!

She pushed her braids over her shoulders. 'As a matter of fact, it's kind of serendipitous that Tom's here, because he might be able to help.'" (Part 8) (Part 9) (Part 10)

  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (part 19): "'Think of it this way, if they are talking about you, then they are leaving someone else alone.' 'I wish they would leave me alone. I don’t know....'"

  • Daria - The Star Wars Chronicles, by Grifter74 (part 2): "Daria stopped next to Ashoka at the edge of the roof and said, 'Our Masters told us to stay out of trouble.' 'So we have 2 options, stop the army or drop in our masters and tell them about the other army.'"

  • Footballs Like White Elephants (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "Kevin strutted down the hall of Lawndale High, having won the big game against Oakwood last night by kicking the ball between the goalposts. • Ghost Girl Chapter 5, by Pumpkin Panic (part 1): "Nicholas Cage was a hamster. Of this he was certain. We didn't bring any heavy coats.' 'I see snow,' said Daria, pressing her face to the window. 'I guess we can huddle together like emperor penguins until we freeze.' 'We're not going to freeze here!' said Jake with determination—but then turned to Helen with concern. 'Are we?'"

  • Paging, Dr. Morgendorffer, by oni (part 2): "'Drugs,' Jane begun. 'It’s one thing to imitate his basic tape recording technique, but for it to be a true Hunter S. Um, yeah. Sure. Just in case.' 'We called them buggies in the South, loathe though I am to admit that's where I grew up.' 'You don't sound like it,' Trent said after grabbing a cart and starting to push it toward the produce section of the store. Daria fell in step beside him. 'And that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me.'"

Long, Long Time Ago...

Eight years ago tonight, "Look Back in Annoyance" was shown on MTV. A 30-minute retrospective of Daria's five seasons, the show was put together by Glenn Eichler and Anne D. Bernstein. The title is a pun based on the British play/movie Look Back in Anger, from the 1950s. Lots of fourth-wall breaking, clever quips, and memories. All this just before the final series installment: Is It College Yet?

This day marks an anniversary in fanfiction-land. Twenty-seven years ago today, someone died who was very important to Daria in one of her many alternate universes. Know who it was? The answer lies here.

Pinhead the Great has posted several artworks based on "The Omega Jane." Wah-hooo!!!!

A Cheap-Ass Clip Show

Seven years ago this evening, "Look Back in Annoyance" was aired on MTV. A 30-minute retrospective of Daria's five seasons, the show was put together by Glenn Eichler and Anne D. Bernstein. The title is a pun based on the British play/movie Look Back in Anger, from the 1950s. Lots of fourth-wall breaking, clever quips, and memories.

This day marks another anniversary, but this time in Fanfiction-land and a bit more serious. Twenty-six years ago today, someone died who was very important to Daria in one of her many alternate universes. Can you guess who it was? If not, the answer lies within.

Greystar needs some help breaking through his writer's block. Go forth and help him! However, he needs no help in starting a great new Iron Chef: Beeep! Very funny!

  • Daria One Half, by BatLurker, a.k.a. Lorenzo Sauchelli (Part 6): A Japanese boy with a heavy backpack, a bandanna around his head and a pair of goggles covering his eyes smiled as he saw the giant strawberry. He looked at his map and nodded to himself and took off the goggles. "Saotome Ranma, prepare to meet me!"
  • Daria: The College Years, by Farren O'Blivion: Farren has changed the ending to chapter 10 and is holding the story hostage. You must read the new ending to chapter 10 and respond to it, or else NO MORE FOR YOU! Do as she says, and no fanfic gets hurt!
