Dancing Cheek to Mane

I see Daria is sharing a dance with the Lawndale Lions mascot for Tango Day, and I'm a little curious: when a teenager holding toilet paper dances with a giant lion, who leads? Anyway, this will probably be the shortest tango ever danced, because if Mr. O'Neill doesn't suffocate first, then Daria's boots will take care of the situation.

I'm sure Mr. O'Neill would rather endure the humiliation and restricted airflow of a lion costume than go on another Lawndale's Wilderness Adventure Club trip, even if it's International Mountain Day. If nothing else, at least he gets to keep his underwear on in the costume...or at least I hope he does.

Finally, I hope Helen withdraws that planned lawsuit against UNICEF, because today is the organization's birthday. It was created on this day in 1946 and has earned countless pennies to help children around the world since.

Fanfic Update!
  • Bigger and Brighter and Wider Than Snow, by elle_stone (part 27): "Her parents used to live on a commune in the late 60s. Then the infighting got bad and the art started to suffer, so they dropped out, went up to Canada for a while–knowing them, without papers."

  • How to Train Your Dragon: Berk in Time, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "The Riders landed on the top deck. They quickly noticed that it wasn’t made of wood, rather it seemed to be composed of some metal or other."

  • Twas the Fight Before Christmas, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Snow is falling over Lawndale Mall. Combined with the Christmas decorations, this makes it visually obvious that it's December." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by roentgen (COMPLETE!): "(Daria, Quinn, Jane, and Stacy are stowaways on a luxury boat cruise. The problem is that the cruise is over, and without a passport to disembark they are in serious trouble.)"

Dancing Cheek to Mane

Daria seems to be an unwilling participant in National Tango Day, and one must wonder: if a lion and a teenager dance, who leads? Trick question; the teenager immediately sues the lion for invasion of personal space.

Unfortunately, Helen won't be able to take the case because she's probably too busy suing UNICEF on the anniversary of its creation in 1946. Please, Helen, try to remind Eric that UNICEF has nothing to do with manufacturing tires, okay?

Finally, we should let the Wilderness Adventure Club know that today is International Mountain Day and they should try their hand at climbing a mountain again. At least, we could have done that if the Wilderness Adventure Club hadn't presumably disbanded immediately after that fiasco with the blizzard.

This Mountain is Reeeeeeally Faaaaaaat....

Tiffany's got her head in the clouds again, but this time literally because it's International Mountain Day! I kind of like the idea of Tiffany having an extreme hobby like mountain climbing. It beats the one-dimensional character she usually ends up as.

Today is also the 75th anniversary of UNICEF's founding in 1946. On the one hand, they've helped countless children all around the world. On the other hand, that didn't stop Eric from (briefly) suing them. Freakin' Eric, am I right?

Fanfic Update!
  • The Background Blues, by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "The trouble with tragedy, Victor reflected, was that the world kept on going regardless of how he felt about it." (Part 14) (Part 15)

  • Come And Knock On Our Door, by ladyevil (part 5): "'I’m gonna have to see some ID.' The bouncer said. 'The Tremor has a strict policy of only letting people over 18 inside.'"

  • A Daria and Quinn Christmas, by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Tony has just dropped a major bombshell on everyone. He's just revealed that he sold his house in Virginia and that he's been trying to force Daria out so that he can move into the guest room."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 52): "'All right, the adventure park, then!' said Vernon Dursley. 'Everyone buckled in?'"

  • Daria's Song, by GzPnkmn (COMPLETE!): "It wasn't hard to hide what she was doing. Daria barely noticed it herself, but under her long sleeves lay a sight only for her eyes."

  • Mysteries of Lawndale 03: Night of the Coffee House, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "Charles waved to Daria after she had got her food. Daria sighed and came over. 'Have you found any of the people?' she asked."

  • Scenes, by JPAGC (part 2.6): "The ambulance had just gone a few seconds ago, but, for Daria, it was an eternity away."

  • This Limbo I'm In, by Two-Eyed Charlie (part 3): "Mrs. Morgendorffer, right... There was something about getting yelled at by someone else’s parents."

This Mountain is Soooo Shiny!

Tiffany's being unusually physically active today, but only because it's International Mountain Day. I'm sure once she gets to the top and checks her makeup she'll return to her typical languid stupor. I don't know if the rest of the Wilderness Adventure Club is coming up with her, but if they are you can bet Ms. Li has brought the video camera along.

Meanwhile, Helen's busy trying to decide whether or not to try suing UNICEF again, because today is the organization's birthday. It was created on this day in 1946, and I'm sure they've accumulated quite a few pennies since then.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria's Great Adventure, by dmsfanman (part 15): "Anton got on the radio. 'Hey, when you are all finished having fun over there I have incoming here. I have three Groundfighter robots headed for the reactor. I could use some backup.'"

  • Erin the Side of Caution, by Kristen Bealer (parts 1 and 2): "Helen was pacing the living room impatiently, feeling angrier by the second. She was furious with her mother for guilting her into working on Erin's divorce. She was furious with Rita for backing out of helping in favor of a whirlwind trip to New York with her boyfriend. Most of all, she was furious with herself for once again getting dragged into the same family drama that she'd been trying to avoid since she was a child." (Part 2)

  • Pimpin' Ain't Easy (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Quinn, Jim and Giselle are sitting in the living room discussing the situation. Giselle looks like a deer caught in the headlights."

  • Searching For a New Hope, by thatLONERchick (part 14): "The armchair across the room was dragged over and Trent joined his sister at Daria's bedside. He smiled and draped her drab green jacket across her legs. 'You forgot this.'"

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries #2), by Roentgen (part 156): "'I have to think that this place is very...creepy,' Andrea said. 'I mean, I liked the Arboreum, but the rest? You can have it.' She was being given the grand tour by Sandi Griffin, who was doing her best to hold her tongue. 'Well...that's an interesting perspective,' she said in return."

Does This Mountain Make Me Look Faaaaat?

Tiffany's celebrating International Mountain Day by climbing one, although I'm not sure she's got the mental capacity to handle such a complex and dangerous task. The good news is that the thin air as she gets higher shouldn't impair her cognitive functions too much.

Today is also the 70th anniversary of the humanitarian organization UNICEF. No, Eric, you can't celebrate by suing them. I don't care how many pennies you'll get out of it.

Fanfic Update!
  • Cops And Robbers And Magic, by psychotol (part 5): "'So, 'Make America Great Again' is taken and will likely be downright toxic next election, so we need a new four word or close to four word slogan that is just as catchy as it was last election,' said Carrie."

  • Cynic and a Six-String, by fringeperson (part 43): "The thing about having been good friends with Trent before they were dating, as well as being best friends with his sister, Daria found it a lot easier to go and just talk to them about the whole mess than to keep it to herself."

  • Daria (and other characters) on the Defiant Round Robin, by Meester_Lee (parts 47 and 48): "Helia turned around in time to watch in wonder as Captain Sisko walked right through the Earth girl who was standing in the doorway of her cabin. The girl staggered for a moment, then began to come back to herself." (Part 48)

  • Daria Takes Charge, by dmsfanman (part 2): "Standing there kissing his wife Tom took in all of the sensations. The softness of Daria's lips was something which was part of her natural beauty."

  • Daria, the Radio serial, by Roentgen (part 5): "O'NEILL: And so, for tomorrow, I want you to make of ten etiquette dos and don'ts. BOY: Oh, Mr. O'Neill, Mr. O'Neill?! O'NEILL: Yes, um... you. BOY: Is that ten in total, or ten of each? Dos and dont's, that is?"

  • Ted Talks Trash (The Ted Zone), by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'...and that brings me to reason number thirty-four why women are genetically superior to men,' Ms. Barch was telling her students. Science class was one of the rare places where Ted actually appreciated other people's tendency to overlook him."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: The Daria Christmas Party), by EntrancedCat (COMPLETE!): "Jane Lane got to Lawndale High's first compulsory attendance Christmas party a bit late due to Trent's not-so-trusty blue flivver breaking down more often than usual on the drive over from Casa Lane."

Cliiiiiimb Eeeevery Mooooountaaaaain!

Tiffany's climbing up to observe International Mountain Day, although you'd think her experience in "Antisocial Climbers" would have scared her off the idea. Still, it's hard to look fat when you're next to a mountain, so you can't fault her logic there.

This is also the anniversary of the formation of UNICEF in 1946, so celebrate by not suing them like Helen and Eric did.

Fanfic Update!
  • Guertena's exhibit at Lawndale, by RĂ©mi (part 5): "'Daria, are you OK?' The voice was claiming her attention, lingering on the edge of her foggy mind."

  • I'm (Not) With the Band, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "The next thing Trent was aware of was waking up on the couch in his own living room. Squinting his eyes in the bright morning light, he glanced out the front window and was relieved to see that there were no cars parked outside. He had no idea how he'd gotten home, but at least he hadn't driven in his condition."

  • Invader Quinn, by Anguirus1955 (part 10): "Quinn looked up at the clock before returning her attention to the TV. She still had three hours before she needed to be at the high school."

  • Maternal, by Indigo (part 2): "'... and finally the self-esteem class is suspended until father notice. You may now resume learning.' Ms Li said as she dismissed the students."

  • Sailor Mercury Takes A Break (Tales of the Shadow Senshi), by Erin M. (COMPLETE!): "The screams quieted and Mercury tapped the 'record' icon on her computer's touchscreen."

I Wonder Who Gets to Lead?

Happy Tango Day! Daria is joining the celebration, somewhat unwillingly, with her unusual partner.

Today is also the anniversary of the day UNICEF was established, back in 1946. Not only has the organization provided much-needed help for children around the world, but it also gave Eric Schrecter someone to wrongfully sue in "One J at a Time."

One for the Kids

This being Universal Children's Day, per UNICEF, we offer a precious thought from young Daria Morgendorffer of Highland Elementary School: click here.

x

Um, the "x" above meant that I was supposed to add something there but forgot. I've forgotten what I had to add, so....

Hey! It's Thursday! Time to party!

Latest entry on DariaWiki: it's a surprise from Brother Grimace. Wonder what Daria is like on that world.
