Who's the Copycat Artist NOW?
Daria has gotten in touch with her inner artist in honor of the anniversary of Andy Warhol's birth on this day in 1928. Jane, meanwhile, has gotten in touch with her inner art subject and is probably silently critiquing Daria's technique.
If Trent ever got that job as a farmer paid not to grow crops, then let's wish him a happy Farmworker Appreciation Day! On second thought, we'd better not. It would be a shame to wake him up.
Happy birthday to the World Wide Web, which got its start on this day in 1991! I hope Jake gets the opportunity to log onto the world wide weberverse and check on the panda-cam.

Well, No, That Mountain Does NOT Make You Look Fat
I see Tiffany already has a head start on celebrating Mountain Climbing Day, but I really hope she isn't going up on her own. The buddy system (even if no one can stand to listen to her talk) is important even for people of normal intelligence. Then again, climbing a mountain in a group didn't work out so well in "Antisocial Climbers," did it?
If Helen and Quinn decide to climb any mountains, they should schedule it in one of Deena Decker's planners in honor of National Planner Day. Helen's is most likely "WORK" written on every page, while Quinn can barely squeeze any other activities in between dates in hers.
Of course, physical planners are soooo old fashioned, especially considering that it's World Wide Web Day. Be like Jake and log onto the world wide weberverse! Or the information superhighway. Whatever the kids are calling it these days.
Fanfic Update!
- The Betrothed, by easmith (part 27): "Dylan sat on the couch in the common room of the boarding house, idly twirling a beer in one hand and a pen in the other, one eye on the TV and the other on the blank notebook on his lap."
- Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 38): "t was true that days and nights still followed a natural pattern even in the depths of Sallakovia, and yet the lost soul of a certain Lawndale girl had already lost all track of time and of how long she had already been stuck at that place."
- Life Gets Better Every Letter That You Write Me, by ladyevil (part 4): "'So, in my dream,' Helen said as she lounged on Dr. Becky’s couch. 'Daria acts like she doesn’t even know me. Only, it’s not an act like it is with Quinn when she likes to pretend that she’s not related to Daria or Jake. She genuinely doesn’t seem to recognize me, and she acts like I’m just some crazy lady who claims to be her mother. She’s all "I don’t have a mother. Get away from me". And so, I chase after her. She’s not running in the dream, but I am, and yet, she just gets further and further from, which does not make any sense.'"

One RBF, Comin' Up!

The World Wide Web is 19 years old today, almost legally old enough to drink. Here is a snapshot of its birth. Also having birthdays today are Kevin Mitnick, mega-hacker; Geri Halliwell, ex-Spice Girl; director M. Night Shyamalan ("I see dead people"); and Pop icon creator Andy Warhol. Two of the above had Daria alter-egos drawn for them. Can you guess which ones? Click and see.
KNEWZ!
- The rules for the 2010 Daria Fanworks Awards are being discussed at this time. Join it, please.
- Anyone want Daria stickers? Really? Look no further.
- Questions remain over whether Daria will appear in any new Beavis and Butt-head episodes. At least give us Cassandra!
- Are there alter egos that should have been drawn for the Daria cast? Fans say YES!
- NEW! Charles RB asks, "If the Morgendorffers are upper-middle class... why did they live in Highland for so long?" If you know the answer, or think you do, tell us.

Hacker Birthday to You, Hacker Birthday to You....

This is also the birthday anniversary of pop-art icon Andy Warhol and of investigator of paranormal mysteries Charles Fort, but they were covered pretty thoroughly last year. With pictures, too. Oh, and here's Daria the Biker again for Anonymous. That's the biggest I can find online.
PPMB

- Iron Chef: Daria Is Raven's Apprentice, by Project Pegasus (COMPLETE!): "Hmmm... I think that a Benjamin says that you ain't seen nothing." "Robin, Benjamin Button is not on the hundred-dollar bill!" "Of course he is! And here, look: he gets older as the denominations get smaller." [And there's more!]
- Reaped Out, by Pinkminx (Epilogue to Act 1): I hope you know what you're doing, Morgendorffer. (FF.net)
- Reaped Out, by Pinkminx (Act 2, Part 1): I don't like it when I say people should die and then they do. I don't want that kind of responsibility. But what if the responsibility was thrust upon you? (FF.net)
- Regifted, by Ajar (Part 11): “Hello, is Daria there?” said Ryan. “Wow,” said Quinn. “A guy calling for Daria. That's a first. I guess you brains don't have the same style standards.”
- Reunions and Introductions, by Tscroggs (continued): "Most of the stuff I had was either connected to bad memories I didn’t want to keep; or wasn’t worth transporting when I moved. I had one hell of a fire sale before I left. Everything else I donated or gave away. I’ve got pictures of most of it if you want to see them.” Jane’s eyes darted over towards the child, who was now seated on the coach with a picture book. “Some of its not kid safe though.”
- Stacy Rowe, Seeker (Part II), by jtranser (continued): "One thing bothers me, though. What'll we do about all those Brussels sprouts?"
- Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria Fanfic Should Have: Hump Day), by NightGoblyn (COMPLETE!): Daria stood in the communal dressing room while other women darted around her pulling on costumes or applying makeup. She glanced around nervously, certain that her deep unease was obvious to anyone who cared to give her a second glance. She wasn't sure which made her more uncomfortable: her purpose for being here or the combination of the arctic blast from the AC and her semi-nude state.

Your Fifteen Minutes of Fame Are Up

Speaking of birthdays, today is the (believe it or not) 17th birthday of the World Wide Web. Yes, it is. The Web came to life on the Internet this day in 1991, available to the public. Now, thanks to the WWW (and Al Gore), you can be anywhere on Earth and still be able to find a picture of a cat saying, "I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGR?" Amazing. We don't have flying cars or world peace, but lolcats are everywhere. Go figure.
Cataloger of the paranormal Charles Fort was born 134 years ago today. It is a certainty that Daria, by her known habits and interests, would know of Fort. He is mentioned in a nightmarish fanfic by Dervish ("An Ill Wind"), and one of his books on enigmas and unexplained events, The Book of the Damned, is mentioned in another fanfic. Anyone wishing to write a Daria fanfic involving the supernatural or the bizarre would do well to thumb through his works. He was not an occultist, but rather a researcher fascinated by reports of UFOs, ghosts, sea monsters, strange fossils, paranormal human powers, extraordinary weather (such as rains of frogs or fish), and so on.
Oh, and two long-running serial friends are still in the running!

- Stacy Rowe, Seeker (Part II), by jtranser (continued): Ja-a-a--ake, Jaa---aaa-aaaa-ake, come, come chaa-aaa-aase us, Jaa--aaa--ake.
- Turnabout Confusion, Part II: All the King's Horses, by Dennis (continued): "We certainly didn't expect this to happen," Daria finished. Of course not, Helen thought. You just hoped it would.
