Dibs on the Chocolate Chip!

Helen and Rita are clearly having second thoughts about celebrating National Cookie Day today, but I would point out that no one says the cookies have to be baked. Crack open the tubes and chow down, ladies! Also, Creepy Cookie Bearing Daria from the pilot had better keep her distance. I mean it. I don't care if the cookies are shaped like hearts; the person holding the tray wants to eat my soul!

Fanfic Update!
  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 56): "Mrs. Bennett was a nice woman. Daniel was almost sure she was quite competent in her subject... Yet she was terrible at explaining things."

  • Daria: Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (parts 19 and 20): "Rikka dialed Aunt Helen’s and Uncle Jake’s number and prayed that somebody would finally pick it up before the answering machine kicked in." (Part 20)

  • Life Goes On: A Christmas Special, by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "We see Quinn's Cadillac Escalade driving along the road. Zoom in to show it's actually Jim driving the SUV. He's hunting for a real Christmas Tree. He looks pissed." (Part 6)

  • RA Holidays 2020: Is this year over yet?, by DIsaac (part 2): "DANI: Quiet, I really wonder what Stacy does after a show. She has been in crazy mode since this went down. I should be on guard around her knowing our history... heck knowing our history."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Lady Evil (COMPLETE!): "Life with nothing but the clothes on his back was hard for Tom. That they were his sister’s clothes made it even harder."

Remember, It's Not What You Put Into the Cookies, It's What You Put INTO the Cookies!

Helen and Rita are a little nervous about National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, because heaven forbid they attempt the arduous task of stirring some chocolate chips into cookie batter. Daria, depending on her mood, might bake a plate of heart-shaped cookies to creep Kevin out again.

Today is also International Beer Day, and the Keg Queen will be here shortly with the refreshments. Kevin, meanwhile, will be counting down the beers from ninety-nine, although I'm frankly shocked the boy is able to count that high--let alone backwards.

Finally, it was on this day in 1999 that the episode "The Lawndale File" first aired. I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't mind seeing a fanfic about what, exactly, Mr. DeMartino went through when he was taken in by those immigration agents. Any ideas?

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria (and other characters) on the Defiant Round Robin, by EntrancedCat (part 56): "Noag, Commander and Owner of the Ferengi casino ship Golden Table, strode alongside Admiral Daria Victoria Morgendorffer. Daria Victoria was leading her landing party of Daria Judith Morgendorffer; Ashley Spinelli; Conan of Cimmeria; Winry Rockbell; Holly Golightly; Number Six and Paste-Pot Pete."

  • Daria of Asgard, by Meester_Lee (parts 4 and 5): "The matron exited the de facto audience-chamber a short time later and walked over to the two girls. She was followed by another gold-armored guard, dressed like the ones who had escorted them into the city and then into the palace." (Part 5)

  • That Summer, by The Central Scrutinizer (parts 15 and 16): "Daria was still asleep at the dining room table when her family came home and jolted her awake. 'Gah-DAMNIT! Helen, it's this damn credit card again! It says I owe them--'" (Part 16)

  • Unnamed story (World's Medium-Sized Crossover), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "Sandi, Quinn, and Stacy were busy help decorate for Sandi's party. It would be the last Homecoming party they would ever have together, and they wondered what they would all be doing same time next year."

Don't Worry; the Chips are Already In It!

Because it's National Cookie Day, Helen and Rita are offering everyone some "homemade" cookies. Do you want chocolate chip or peanut butter? Then again, knowing their (lack of) cooking skills, you might want to take a pass on the cookies. That could easily be a roll of ground beef Helen's holding.

Jake Cooks

Disasters the result from Jake's cooking have become a fanfic trope in the Daria community. Granted, there is canon justification for some of them, "Helen, my tongue is turning black!"

But in other cases, the Morgendorffers are shown eating his cooking without ill effects for distress (Helen stressing out and dumping the Penne a la Pesto on Jake's head really wasn't a result of his cooking). If nothing else, the family got a welcome break from the lasagna and unidentified vegetables that Helen always served.

Jake may have had a few disasters, but at least he showed a willingness to try something new. Something Helen never did.
