Lots of Reasons to Celebrate!

The Holiday Island High teen known as Constitution Day turns 222 today (see at left for Daria's representation of same). Boston, Daria and Jane's college town, turns 379 today. It was founded by Puritans (see at right for Quinn's representation of same). Someone reprinted Daria's graduation speech in their blog three years ago today, and my life companion Tux wants to remind everyone that some computer program with his picture on it, or whatever, was invented 18 years ago today.

And, saving the best for last, the grandfather of astronautics and space travel was born 152 years ago today. You rule, dude! Thanks!

Daria for Dictator!

Evidently I picked the wrong day to give up crack, because TODAY (not yesterday) is the 10th anniversary of the premiere of "Jane's Addition." This is all Tom's fault.

Today is also the 89th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote in the United States and eventually led to Daria Morgendorffer becoming Dictator-for-Life of North Am.

Pinkminx has re-edited "Just Friends" on FF.net and would appreciate some feedback. Give her a hand, please.

Constitution Day—What Kind of Holiday Island Kid Is That?

Today marks the 221st anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America. It is thus known as Constitution Day. Did you ever wonder about this kid in Holiday Island High? Me, neither.

Also, Boston was founded 378 years ago today just so that Daria and Jane could go to college there.

I have more, but it will have to wait. Party on!

Love Hurts

Courtney Love's 44th birthday is today, and at this time I wish to confess that Hole is one of my favorite rock bands ever. I've used lyrics from her music in two Daria stories ("Daria 2007" and "Daria's Addition"). Weird to see Quinn done up as Ms. Love, but that's MTV for you. The image is from the alter egos on the MTV site.

The Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution became law today 140 years ago, right after the Civil War. Mack would appreciate this fact, for sure, but Jodie (and all other U.S. women) would still not be allowed to vote without another amendment being added later on.

More soon.

Daria: Left, Right, Center, or Nowhere?

Who would Daria vote for? What were her political leanings?

Thirty-eight years ago today, President Nixon signed the 26th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which lowered the voting age to 18. The amendment became law the following year.

Daria and Jane turned 18 by the end of their senior year at Lawndale High. Assuming they graduated in the spring of 2000 (per Richard Lobinske's most excellent chronology of the series), Daria was eligible to vote in the 2000 presidential election that fall. How did that turn out? What effect would the tumultuous election have on her, then and in the future?

Food for thought.

P.S. Just because I put Daria's picture on the right doesn't mean she's right-wing.

Stay tuned.

Charles Ruttheimer III, King of England?

Only 383 years ago today, Charles I became King of England. What if, thanks to a time machine . . . no, let's not go there. Sorry. Today is also the 214th birthday of the U.S. Navy and the 45th birthday of Quentin Tarantino. One of Tarantino's movies had a significant impact on a recent Daria fanfic.

Oh, and the supersonic Concorde, beloved of Sandi Griffin, would have been 38 today if they hadn't stopped flying it.

Let's see what the Internet-with-a-capital-I has to show us today. . . .

MOAR SERIUS BIZNIS FRUM TEH INERNETZ!!! *
* With a capital I.

Daria Morgendorffer, Starfleet Captain? Wow, the things you learn online. She sure looks different without her glasses.

Unbeknownst to most of us, the San Francisco Chronicle once named Daria one of TV's best "teen smarty cynics." That was nice. Amazing how popular she became despite her best efforts to avoid it.

A few days ago I made a snide comment about using the Internet to date Daria nerds. Well, it appears you can really do that after all. What will they think of next?

Yearning for some Daria/Thundercats crossover fanfic? Yearn no more! Click here.

Whatever became of the guy who voiced Jake Morgendorffer? Perhaps this webpage will solve the mystery. More power to you, dude, and good luck with that.

Finally, thanks to students in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Daria Morgendorffer and family are able to explain the U.S. Constitution to you. That's a report to which I would have given extra credit, for sure, or rather I would have if they hadn't spelled "Constitution" as "consfghsfdgsdtitution." That's supposed to be a capital C there: "Consfghsfdgsdtitution." Kids these days.
