"Yes, I'm Dictator-for-Life Daria. May I help you?"

If you are a Virgo, that is too bad, but this is the Virgo time of year so we may as well say something about it. I would have mentioned it sooner, but, you know, whatever. Our thanks to Mrs. Johanssen for her modeling help. The only Daria-related thing I could find for today was that some girls punched each other in a fanfic on this day years ago, so we'll just move along. However, a very interesting fanfic idea popped up during my research.

Today is the 42nd anniversary of the creation of the Principality of Sealand, a micronation off the coast of England. Micronations are just what they sound like, little bitty self-proclaimed countries that no one pays any attention to except the people living there, and websites devoted to them on the Internet.

How could a Daria character set up a micronation his her or his own? Why would someone do a thing like that? Where would such a place be? What kind of stupid laws would they pass? Could this lead to a guest spot on Sick, Sad World? Food for fanfic here.

What fanfiction is coming through the rest of the year? Check it out on PPMB and add your own.

CROSSOVER SHIPPING: When a Daria character and one from another fandom must absolutely, positively hang out overnight, what pair would you pick? Join in the discussion! Be inspired! Write a crossover fanfic! Match Jane Lane with the Creature from the Black Lagoon!

  • D Is for Daria, by Fringeperson (COMPLETE!): "It's about that guy who was hanging around.” “You are referring to the jerk-wad who calls himself Tom Sloane?” “Right. Why didn't you go out with him?” “Apart from the fact that he's Jane's ex-boyfriend, I don't like the guy and I'm dating Trent." “But Trent isn't here to know." [Finished at 10 parts!]
  • Pigskin Caduceus, by HolyGrail2007 (Parts 7 and 8): “So, Joey, tell us.” Jamie was eager to speak once we were in the car and away from the prying ears of other people. “Tell you what?” Joey asked. “You know, dude. Tell us about Ruby. Go all the way?”

  • John Lane 42: Legally Halloween, by Richard Lobinske (Part 3): His hair also dyed blond, Tom got out of his car and said to Quinn while watching the others, "I'm still trying to figure out how you talked me into dressing up as Spike." She said, "I told you, silly, that going as Angel would be too predictable."
  • Regifted, by Ajar (Part 15): “Hey, Mack. Why so down?” “Jodie betrayed me.” “What?” “You heard me, Jodie betrayed me.”

Saturday.....

...and the debate over a possible partner for Sandi Griffin rages on at PPMB. Meanwhile, we could have a debate over Sandi's college job choices here, starting with the image at left.

Moar as soon as I wake up again.

Oh! Here we go. Richard Lobinske has posted an exceptionally good idea for rude stories: Quinn's Kegger. It spins off from "Gifted." Try it! You'll like it!

LATE NEWZ: 1,216 fans at the Daria Fan Club. Boy, that thing grew quick.

Now 2,288 pages in DariaWiki. Go go GO!

Roxanne wants to find 50 ways to kill Tom Sloane (per a similar song by Paul Simon). Moar l8r.

Dariaverse to Dariaverse at Full Throttle

For the sake of something weird to do, I've been collecting notes on a thing called a "Dariaverse Crossover," which of course is destined to get stuck into the DariaWiki. It's a type of fanfiction that's exactly what it sounds like: Daria crossed over with Daria. Characters from one Dariaverse somehow make their way to another Dariaverse, and lots of chaos results. The archetypal story would be "Illusions," but Brian Taylor's "Through a Closet, Darkly" predates that story by quite a bit. The idea began with Daria folk going from the canon Dariaverse to a new one of the author's invention, but has also grown to include characters from one author's Dariaverse going into another author's Dariaverse. The idea can become very complicated and dramatic, as seen in Richard Lobinske's "Three."

Other than the above stories (and "Guys' Night Out"), can anyone think of any other Dariaverse Crossover stories? I'm trying to compile a list and am coming up short. Thank you for your help!

LATE ADD: Just remembered Lycissa's "Second Chances" and "End of the Line." Any others? Any older ones? My brain is empty.

Random Fanfic Idea #5

One of the better young-adult novels of the 1990s was Caroline B. Cooney's The Face on the Milk Carton. A 15-year-old girl sees her own childhood photo on a milk carton, opening a disturbing mystery about her past that only her parents (if that is who they really are) can answer.

The picture at right came from one of the Daria websites years ago, I forget where, and shows "The Head" as a missing kid. The drawing was probably a prototype done for foreign (South Korean, I think) cartoonists to see what a milk carton looked like when they were creating animated scenes for the Daria show.

So, what if during school lunchtime one of the show's characters saw her or his picture on a milk carton, with an entirely different name?

Random Fanfic Idea #2

Tiffany and her octuplets appear among the alter-ego shots on MTV's Daria site. No one has ever written a story about how this could have come about.

Who's the father, that's what I'm wondering. Or did she clone herself?

This just cries out for more.

Random Fanfic Idea #1

About halfway through the episode, "Groped by an Angel," the Fashion Club is in a school hallway listening to Quinn talk about her guardian angel, when Sandi (who has had enough of playing second fiddle) says, "I mean, I have a guardian angel, too. I just don't brag about it all the time." Though subsequent events seem to show Sandi was just making that up, what if she wasn't? Interesting fantasy or AU possibility there. If anyone wants to use the idea, be my guest.

Interesting sort of Veronica Lake thing Sandi has going with her hair, isn't it?
