A Quinnup Girl!

Quinn is looking very retro for National Pinup Day, and I can just imagine how the three Js would react to seeing this. No shock that she's on the phone, though. Quinn has the same hobbies in any decade.

Perhaps Tom and Daria can have another "morgue chat" about Vladimir Lenin, since today is the anniversary of his birth in 1870. I'm sure Jane would prefer that they didn't, however. I think she has a point.

It would at least be more interesting than talking about Immanuel Kant, also born on this day in 1724. The "dry, ponderous intellectual" put Tom to sleep, so I can't imagine the conversation would be very exciting.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria in "The Gap", by SisterCatherine (COMPLETE!): "Though she would be loath to admit it, Daria had been excited for college. The change of pace was direly needed, and after learning that she wouldn’t have to part with Jane, she was as close to eager as she really could be."

  • Daria Morgendorffer vs Daphne Blake, by kllngjk2 (COMPLETE!): "On this afternoon, Daria Morgendorffer is walking on the street of Lawndale, her hometown. Due to the fact that both the weather and sun are pleasant, the lady decided to take some fresh air."

  • Opposites Detract, by Bolshevitch (part 3): "If nothing else, Daria felt reassured by the fact that clique rigidity in the lunch room was a multiversal constant."

  • Quinn Gets Medieval, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Artie was at the entrance to Medieval Times wearing a Star Fleet uniform and haggling with the host."

  • Spider Quinn 16 Tempest and Change, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "A minute later, they were on top of the Historia."

  • Troubles of Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "'Girls, I just want you to know your mother and I realize it's not easy moving to a whole new town -- especially for you, Daria, right?'"

  • Funky Pretty, by MoleFromTheMinistry (part 3): "'Hey.' Tom sat down at the Pizza King with Jane on a Thursday evening. She called him on his phone the night prior, asking to talk about something serious."

I Kant Believe He's 298!

Even if he were awake, I don't think Tom would be impressed to know that today is the anniversary of Immanuel Kant's birth in 1724. Turns out that dry, ponderous intellectuals aren't his thing. Unless they wear boots and green jackets, that is.

Today is also Girl Scout Leader Day, so get out there and lead a troop in a nice hike while singing "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt." Sanity is overrated, anyway.

Fanfic Update!
  • Mysteries of Lawndale 03: Night of the Coffee House, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 9): "'Did you have to tell the police officer I had suspicions?' Dewey asked as they walked away from the cafĂ©."

  • Sarcasm always wins, by DuckyMarie (part 2): "The next day I go through my normal classes at the normal boring pase. I stay after school with Mr. O'Neill for the so-called Self-Esteem Course. I take my seat and look around and see about a half-dozen others in the room."

Kant Keep His Eyes Open

Poor Tom just doesn't find Immanuel Kant, born on this day in 1724, to be very exciting reading. Of course, everyone knows that "Critique of the Power of Judgment" is the real page-turner.

I would wish Marianne a happy Administrative Professionals Day, but she's far too busy to stop and listen. I'm sure Helen will ask her to send herself a nice flower arrangement, though.

Why Kant Tom Keep His Eyes Open?

Tom's just riveted by Immanuel Kant's writing, and who wouldn't be? I'm sure the late philosopher would be happy to know his work is being appreciated on the anniversary of his birth in 1724.

Today is also Girl Scout Leader Day, and I hope Jane celebrates it by getting together with her old troop to singing a round of "John Jacob Jingleheimer Somebody."

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (part 59): "Early the next week Jake invited Daria to take an introductory Hebrew class at Temple."

  • Daria's Great Adventure, by dmsfanman (part 23): "Tom had Mia on-screen over a highly encrypted channel. Everyone stood around the screen."

  • Daria the Vampire Slayer: Hell Comes To Texas, by Charles RB (parts 1 - 3): "She'd had one of the dreams again. She was another girl in another time and place, and then a vampire had eaten her. Honestly, they were starting to drag." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Dirty Little Secret (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (part 2): "Jim, Vito and Linda are sitting down and talking. Jim and Linda are coming to grips with the revelation that they're related. Jim: When you came over to my house nine years ago did you know I was your nephew?"

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 23): "Erin arrived at work to find the other PA's gathered around Zoe's desk. 'What's going on?' Erin asked. 'We don't know.' Zoe replied. 'An all of management emergency meeting, which none of us got any warning. All the bosses gone, who knows where?'"

  • Nothing Else Matters, by YouthofOz (parts 23 - 27): "It was Trent. It was him. Not a lookalike or a dream, but horribly, undeniably Trent moving towards them out of the flames like a remarkably dishevelled Terminator." (Part 24) (Part 25) (Part 26) (Part 27)

  • Sleeping Brittany (IC: Blank Brittany), by Serrallonga (part 1): "Brittany woke up that morning feeling great, as usual."

  • Thrill of the Fall, by atiyatortilla (parts 2 and 3): "The quest for a table was proving fruitless until a pair of friendly strangers lent Daria a helping hand." (Part 3)

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Saga Goes On), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "There were many things that Daria had expected to happen when she actually used the free trip to Las Vegas she had won by entering that damn raffle at Jane's prompting."

  • With Apologies To Mayall (IC: Apartment Life), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "Tom had thought he'd enjoy his time at Bromwell until he rented an apartment in a student-friendly area and found he was sharing it with Upchuck, who should not be."

Tom Just Kant Stay Awake

Poor Tom is really trying to appreciate Immanuel Kant on the 293rd anniversary of the philosopher's birth, but I just don't think it's going to work out. If only Kant had livened up the book with a gunfight or a fur bikini, Tom might have been able to stay awake. But then we'd have had no wacky hijinks involving school rumors, so perhaps it's all for the best.

Today is also Girl Scout Leader Day, so let's all take a moment to appreciate the poor soul who had to take Jane Lane and a bunch of girls singing "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" on a hike. Hey, I just thought of Mr. DeMartino's dream job!

Fanfic Update!
  • Decisions, by elainefr (part 12): "'Ah,' Daria winced at the sting of the alcohol that she was dabbing on her cuts. 'Damn Zon and their broken bottles and stupid me, for getting into a fight over a guy. This is so high school.'"

  • This is my stop, by Honey-On-Toast (parts 10 and 11): "The washing up was more of just a task of physical work, it was persuading Quinn to participate. There was nagging, exchange of sarcasm, bribery and finally it was done." (Part 11)

I Kant Believe It!

Tom is falling asleep over Critique of Pure Reason, the most well-known work written by philosopher Immanuel Kant. Kant was born on this day in 1724, and from a certain perspective you could claim that he is directly responsible for all those rumors about Daria and Tom having sex in "My Night at Daria's." Shame on you, Mr. Kant. Shaaaaame.

Tom Kant. Kan You?

Eleven years ago today in Fanfic-land, Daria Morgendorffer won a college scholarship and became very depressed as a result. Why? Check out the answer here.

What book put Tom Sloane to sleep at Daria's house, in "My Night at Daria's"? It was Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason (slightly misspelled in the episode as Critique of Pure Reasoning). Kant, who actually could, was born this day 286 years ago.

In theory, this is also National Jelly Bean Day, but no one knows why. Only one Daria fanfic to my knowledge even mentions jelly beans, and it was written twelve years ago by Invisigoth Gypsy.

NEWS FLASH! This just in: HolyGrail2007 reliably informs us that "Finn Morgendorffer 39: That S-E-X Word" also contains a reference to jelly beans, making it the only Daria fanfic in the past twelve years, other than Invisigoth Gypsy's "Appearances Can Be Deceiving," to include that snack food. We will remain on the air as long as we can to report further developments. Stay tooned.

Time again for fanfic. Oh! Almost forgot! Today is EARTH DAY!

PPMB
  • Finn Morgendorffer 43: A Tale of Three Schrecters, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 5): “You don’t need to ask.” Elizabeth remarked. “Your mother doesn’t even need to know. She won’t call, she’ll be in court. You’ll get home before she will. I’ll make sure of that.” Elizabeth remarked as she put her arm around Finn’s shoulder.
  • NEW! Gender Bender, by Minx (COMPLETE!): “Just because you spell your name with an ‘i’ instead of a ‘y’ and you dress in girls clothes doesn’t make you female,” Sam said as he sidestepped Sandi’s attack. “Just get out of here you little brat!” Sandi screamed, his voice wavered and came dangerously close to cracking.
  • The Heather/Damsel Chronicles 1:13: Monkey See, Monkey Do, by NightGoblyn (preview): Daria looked up from her second cup of Irish coffee when the kitchen door swung open, her daughter striding confidently into the room and over to the 'fridge. The steady thumping of the girl's boots across the hardwood floor was the only sound in the room at first, but it was then followed by the gentle clinks and clanks of things being shifted around and examined for their potential use as breakfast.
  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Pact With The Devil), by NoName999 (COMPLETE!): Daria awoke to find herself in Hell. Apparently she had forgotten that pride was one of the deadly sins. And she learned that the hard way. "If I had known that the third time's the charm, I would have never crossed the street during rush hour just to throttle Jane," she said. "If only I were Moses."
