This is probably one of Artie's favorite holidays, World UFO Day, which commemorates the Roswell UFO incident on this day in 1947. Today would be a good day to either go to a UFO convention or seek out atomic communists from Mars. Either way, it should be fun!

Aliens and Aviators!

Amelia Earhart went missing on this day in 1937. Where did she go? Well, one popular theory is that she was abducted by aliens. This could be true, especially if they were the aliens that allegedly crashed at Roswell on this day in 1947--exactly ten years later! Could this be a coincidence or--okay, yeah, it's most likely a coincidence.

It was fourteen years ago today that the Air Force released a report on the infamous Roswell UFO Incident of 1947. According to the report, the "aliens" sighted were actually test dummies. Do you believe them? All I know is, even test dummies would be more intelligent life than Tiffany is.

Wearing Only Her Legal Briefs

Legal eagle Helen Morgendorffer celebrates the arrival of the 2010 Godiva Festival in Coventry, which promises to be the best party place on Earth for the whole family. A minimum of 85,000 people are expected. No, seriously. And they won't even have a naked lady on a horse! Everyone's there for the food and music and parade. Well, we believe in traditional values here at the Daria Fandom Blog II, so we do have a naked lady on a horse. No Godiva chocolates, though. We're on a diet.

Eight years ago today, Daria began airing on The N, but in a severely censored form that caused legions of Daria fans to rend their garments and cast ashes on their heads. Is It Fall Yet? was so chopped up the plot made no sense. (Click the link to Outpost Daria to see how the movie was edited.) The butchered episodes ceased to appear in 2006.

The Roswell UFO event is alleged to have occurred 63 years ago today, though accounts have changed over the years and different dates have been offered. Thanks to Roswell, we have soap operas about troubled alien-human-robot love triangles. Or we should have.

Daria said three little important words to her future husband on this day ten years ago. Do you know the fanfic in which she did this?

Close Encounters of the Butt Kind

Sixty-one years ago TODAY . . . the Roswell UFO Incident occurred. An alien spacecraft crash-landed in Roswell, New Mexico, and Earthlings confronted our first visitors from space. Something like that, whatever. This historic moment is captured at right.

On a more serious note, 44 years ago today President Johnson signed into law the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which did a world of good for the parents of Jodie Landon and Mack Mackenzie. Without this law, all the characters in Daria would probably be white. All the rich ones, at least.

It is noteworthy that on this day six years ago, Daria was first rebroadcast on The-N, to mixed reviews because of film cuts. In the Falling Into College series by Richard Lobinske, Daria made a diary entry on this day eight years ago (see "Freedom of Speech").
