Talk amongst yourselves!

Okay, so I was going to preface this fanfic update with some kind of "this day in history" or Daria-relevant factoid or something like that, but it turns out I'm completely out of ideas at the moment. So you guys go ahead and discuss whatever you like in the comments. We'll call it recess.

Also, here's a random picture of Tiffany as a Pokemon. Or something.

Fanfic!

  • God Save The Esteem 11: Ridin' Slowly, by Charles RB (parts 1 and 2): "Erin headbutted him, guzzled half a bottle of vodka, belched, and turned the other into a Molotov cocktail that burnt the office down. 'NO FUTURE!' she declared. 'SMASH THE STATE!'" (Part 2)

  • The James Lane Chronicles Chapter 3, by InvisibleDan (part 3): "James went back to his painting. He suddenly decided he didn't want to work on it anymore. It was as good as it was going to get. He put down his paintbrush and stood back to look at his work. After a few seconds of admiring the finished product, he decided that going to the store could wait a bit longer. He picked up his phone and dialed Daria's number. She answered. 'Hello?' 'It's ready.' 'I'll be right over.'"

  • Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 23): "Stopping every so often to look at her sister, Jane was still amazed at the voice that came from the small girl. Daria was so quiet, her voice usually soft and monotoned, but when she sang - the power showed."

  • Kolchak: The Lawndale File, by Chris Tucker: "I had been searching for the relationship that Jake had with each of the murder victims, except for the Lane boy, and not what was the relationship all the victims had with each other, as well as Jake. Now, with both the revelations as to how Trent Lane had been really murdered, and the murder of Landon, maybe I needed to look at the relationships between ALL the murder victims, and their relationship to Jake."

  • Raft College: The First Year, by rglovejoy (parts 32 and 33): "Daria sat on the chair, wearing only a bathrobe. Outside the window, she could see the dorm residents enjoying a cookout in the courtyard below. It was the final day of the Columbus Day weekend; it was also likely to be the last day it will be sunny and warm enough to wear shorts and play volleyball or just lie in the Sun." (Part 33)

  • [series name redacted], Book 1, by vlademir1 (part 2): "Amy Barksdale looked up at the building in front of her craning her neck slightly trying to take it all in. Glancing down at her watch she scolded herself for dillydallying. Her meeting with her editor on the was on the 77th floor in half an hour and she didn't want to be late again, this was a make or break on her career especially after that recent incident."

  • Shifting Gears (Write-off Challenge 6, Round 3), by Shull Bitter (COMPLETE!): "He caressed the car, leaving a trail of grime across the hood. 'Eeek!' Daria held back laugher as he stripped off his shirt and frantically wiped it in circles. The sight of a scrawny boy with bright red patches of scraggly chest hair apologizing to a hunk of metal while inadvertently grinding dirt deeper into its hood? It was almost too much for her."

  • Unnamed story (Flinging Fourth the New Ideas Thread), by Trscroggs (COMPLETE!): "The year is 2020 and the world is running on empty."

  • Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (part 34): "Keeping her identity a secret at this point might not have even meant that much. It wasn’t as if Mitch could walk back to college. What mattered now was the fun part, the part where he had a great time. It worked at the party Quinn took him to for the bet the two had, but this one was more important. There was more on the line than simple bio lab help."

A Little Song, A Little Dance, A Little Wedgie in Your Pants

Happy April Fool's Day to you all. Jesters are the logos and mascots for the day.

This blog has popped a couple or two 4/1 stunts in the past. It's amazing how many April Fool's stunts have been pulled on the Internet as a whole, including:
This day has at least one website devoted to it, though I am partial to the Museum of Hoaxes and especially to one of the best prank-busters of all time, Snopes.com. Well worth a look for your enlightenment.

I'd still like to know what April Fool's Day is like at Holiday Island High, whether a prankster or some ironic twist on the same.Only one Daria fanfic I can find is actually attuned to April Fool's Day, that being Richard Lobinske's "I Meant to Do That." I did find a nice Liliane Grenier artwork of Trent as a court jester on Outpost Daria, but no other jesters.

It's been three years to this day since all the appliances on Earth took over and enslaved humanity. You'd think someone would notice.

Would Mack Mackenzie make a good businessman? What kind of business would he be in? Add your comments to the thread!

The supervillain named Valwire has been captured... in Jim North's artwork! Excellent!

The above item appears here. An old collectible. Darn.

  • NEW! Falling into College: The Clip Show, by Richard Lobnske (Part 1): "Hi, I’m your host, Karen Myerson. Right here in front of Fenderson Hall, what seems like the best place to start our show."
  • Finn Morgendorffer 40: Higher Learning, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 4): Fantastic. Now all we need is a flat tire, Daria thought. It didn’t come to pass when she thought it, not like the TV shows. But this was bad enough on its own.
  • NEW! Fragments of an Unnamed Tale, by Staticblast (Part 1): "It has been eight years now, since my family left the south to move here, and seven-and-a-half since I became fast friends with the artist, Jane Lane. My father was, and still is, considered strange by the community for having me tutored at home, and insane for doing the same for her. As you know, she has been both reviled and praised for her illustrations and paintings of the contents of the seven cryptical books of Hsan, named a genius and claimed to be in need of an alienist." [Part 2 here!]
  • John Lane 45: Haunted by the Past, by RLobinske (COMPLETE!): "The girls of Lawndale owe you big time, Daria," Quinn said before hurrying away.
  • NEW! (Semi)Permanent Reminder, by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): Daria awoke in a semi-dark room, the morning air cool and still. After a good stretch she moved the sheet off her legs and stood. She wore a thin white sports bra and boy shorts, which she straightened as she walked to the bathroom. On the door was a sheet of white paper, a message printed across the center of the page: LOCK THE DOOR

So, what will the fans be talking about the day after Daria is finally released on DVD? Sure, it will probably reignite some serious discussion about various episodes and story arcs, but what, specifically, will people have to say about it? Here are my own predictions:

10. You know, with the digital re-mastering and high-resolution, you can really see Daria shove her tongue down Tom's throat in "Dye! Dye! My Darling!"

9. Um, what exactly did Glenn Eichler mean when he said the musical episode was based on Citizen Kane?

8. What was everyone else's favorite deleted scene? Mine was the alternate ending of "A Tree Grows in Lawndale" where the cheerleaders' seance brings Tommy Sherman back to life as a zombie.

7. Hey, watching the episode in super-slo-mo, I just realized that Trent copped a feel during that scene at Axl's in "Pierce Me." You'd think Daria would have said something.

6. Wait, so that Mystik Spiral spinoff was going to be a gritty crime drama with lots of hardcore sex and violence?

5. I just realized that if you loop O'Neill shaking his butt at the very beginning of the "Is It Fall Yet?" opening sequence and watch it over and over and over again...you go completely blind.

4. Huh. So, according to the commentaries, Daria is a B cup. Guess that settles that, then.

3. Did you know if you play Daria's graduation speech backwards, she clearly says, "And remember, fashion is fun and everything, but we should really do something about the rainforest and stuff"?

2. You guys have got to listen to "Dark Side of the Moon" while you watch "Depth Takes a Holiday"! You'll never believe it!

1. I get that they had to replace the original music, but why would they play Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" during the "Quinn the Brain" makeover scene?
