Gather Around for Story Time!

Daria is celebrating International Read To Me Day with her classmates, but it looks like the girls are getting more than they bargained for. They should just be grateful that Daria isn't telling them one of her original stories, like the Hansel and Gretel remix or one of Melody Powers's bloodbaths.

Unfortunately, Daria's originals don't always meet expectations, as she found out in "The Story of D," which aired on this day in 2001. I guess she could try workshopping it with her classmates and see what they think about flesh-eating viruses.

Although it's International Client's Day, I suppose for Jake that's every day. Just remember, Jake, cigars for pets is a brilliant idea if your client thinks so.

Sandi Can Eat Her Dust!

Stacy is having an awesome International Sports Car Racing Day, and the best part is that Sandi isn't there to ruin it for her. Yay, Stacy!

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "The Story of D," which aired on this day in 2001. Poor Daria suffered the first agonizing trial of rejection, but as an aspiring writer I'm sure it wasn't the last. Yay, Daria?

Feeling Fowl

Mr. DeMartino is preparing for a great Poultry Day, or at least he was until Brittany and Kevin interrupted him. Now he might decide to stuff a few dim-witted students into the oven instead.

Speaking of chickening out (or in this case, not), today is also the anniversary of the episode "The Story of D," which aired on this day in 2001. Daria took a chance at getting a story published and was rejected, but not before we got some funny lines out of the experience. My favorite? This one:

Helen: Um, Tom's not here?

Daria: Not unless you've got him secreted somewhere on your person...you do, don't you.

Fanfic Update!
  • Burned Out, by Wrabbit7 (part 18): "The Peterson living room was filled with the sound of Samantha drumming on the coffee table, as well as empty soda cans, magazines, and an empty dinner plate with her drumsticks."

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 36): "Erin had taken advantage of her early departure from work and had showered and changed clothes before walking to the restaurant for the Library’s dinner. The route was familiar so she allowed her thoughts to wander."

  • The Necessities, by EntrancedCat (part 1): "'Okay, everyone has their assignments,' Jim Carbone reminded his passengers as they pulled into Long Island’s Payday Mart’s parking lot."

  • The Plague Of Daria (Daria and Quinn), by WildDogJJ (part 2): "Quinn's white Cadillac CTS is going down Main Street. Inside, Quinn was driving while Daria rode in the front passenger seat."

  • The Stories in D, by Lady Evil (parts 5 and 6): "'Don’t you get it?' Lark said to the deer. 'You’re free now!' The deer refused to leave Lark’s side. 'Run for it! Before those monsters come back and drain you of your essence!'" (Part 6)

Anything to Impress Quinn!

I admire Joey's enthusiasm, but I think the eggs were just a little over the top for Poultry Day. I'm sure it would have been plenty to just have a chicken sandwich for lunch, dude.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "The Story of D" in 2001. There wasn't any poultry in it, unless you count Daria being too chicken to submit her story at first.

Put the Poem Down, Quinn, I Said POULTRY!

Joey's looking unusually happy for Poultry Day, especially considering he appears to have just laid three eggs. (Ow.) Then again, maybe he just heard Quinn say she'd like to have some chicken for dinner. He's in for an unpleasant surprise.

Today we also celebrate the anniversary of the episode "The Story of D," which aired on this day in 2001. Daria wasn't sure if she was ready to submit her story to Musings, but in the end she didn't chicken out.

Get it?

Sorry. Won't happen again.

Musing about an Episode Anniversary

Daria is sending today's blog post out by mail as a reenactment of the episode "The Story of D," which aired on this day in 2001. Once it arrives, we'll have to consider her submission and decide if it's right for us at this time. Outlook's not good, though.

Fanfic Update!
  • Dylan, by J-D (part 34): "'You do realise', Dylan said, 'that staying at our place means my mother insisting on your eating her food.' He could see Rod on the verge of responding, and cut him off. 'I don't mean just the good stuff, I mean the experiments. You're volunteering yourself as a brand new guinea pig.'"

  • Free Eats (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: No longer in the 1%), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Jane stared aghast at her best friend, Daria Morgendorffer. It wasn't that they were at school, nor that her friend was standing nonchalantly near her locker."

  • God Save the King also known as The Bitch Is Back (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: No longer in the 1%), by LongSnakeMoan (COMPLETE!): "Princess Tom and Elsie walked upstairs, Elsie determined to get with a child by hook or crook without actually having to copulate with Butt-head, though her fellow wives actually seemed to be getting on with it quite well."

  • Groped by an Antisocial Climber (IC: Mix them up. DariaXDaria Crossover!), by SacredDust (COMPLETE!): "'Who would have thought that one's fashion sense could have a dark side? The normally life-affirming act of choosing an outfit is such a big responsibility that I forgot about everything else! Like, um, the food and stuff. It really was kind of a miracle, huh? Like that lady who got a flat tire in a blizzard and a mysterious guy fixed it for her! She says here it was a guardian angel.'"

  • Mysteries of Lawndale 02: The First Party, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Twenty minutes later, Daria, Jane and Jason met Stacy, Quinn and Corey at a park across from Jason's house on the corner of Glen Oaks Lane and Page Drive. After their mutual surprise had subsided Daria asked, 'Now we'll compare notes.'"

  • The Only Pair, by SentrytheDefiant (parts 5 and 6): "The cold sweat ran down the back of her neck, causing her thin cotton nightshirt to stick to her back. Her heart was threatening to burst out of her chest as it thumped rapidly. She brushed her bangs away from her burning forehead and rested her palm there. Her breath escaped in short, ragged gasps as she tried to calm herself." (Part 6)

  • Out of Fashion, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'...afraid we're going to have to institute snack spot checks! I'm sorry, young people, but you have abused your privileges!' The PA system clicked off, and Stacy stopped in her tracks. 'But that's not fair!'" (Part 6)

  • Unnamed story (The 1001 Humiliations of Quinn Morgendorffer), by NightGoblyn (COMPLETE!): "Quinn's head was pounding, and somebody was shining a million billion candle-watt powered flashlight directly into her eyes. No, there were two of them, one for each eye. And a little drum section playing on top of her head. And she felt like there was a dirty wool sock in her mouth."

  • The Window, by metameric1 (parts 4 and 5): "Daria hated to admit it, but she was greatly enjoying herself playing dress up with the talkative woman. The session was far more casual than in the studio; Dauphine had hung yards of white silk in the sunroom of her shared flat to soften the light. She had quite a good eye, and her photos were excellent." (Part 5)

He's a Chicken, I Tell You! A Giant Chicken!

Today is Poultry Day, everyone! Celebrate by...eating chicken, I guess. Anyone up for some nice rotisserie-style Joey?

This is also the anniversary of the first airing of "The Story of D" in 2001. Daria's story gets rejected! The angst! The horror! The wailing and gnashing of teeth! And that's just Ms. Barch let it slip about using oils in the bedroom. Ewwwwww.

For the Men and Women in Uniform

Today is Armed Forces Day in the United States, during which we honor those who serve (or served) in any of the branches of the military. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard, we salute you!

This is also the anniversary of the original airing of "The Story of D" in 2001. Daria gets rejected from Musings Magazine, and doesn't take it very well. But hey, she can always try sending her stuff to Val.

Fanfic Update!
  • Anonymouse Ear (Non-Daria), by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "Buffy sat down on the grass and pounded it with her fists. Since she was a Slayer, they made quite a dent. 'DamndamndamndamnDAMN!' she growled."

  • Another Something..., by oni (COMPLETE!): "'Hey, I know you,' the prison inmate said to the new girl who was going to be her new cellmate. The inmate’s head was shaved and there was a piercing through her right eyebrow. She was looking down from the top bunk in the prison cell and eyed the new one with a certain curiosity."

  • Apathymorphs: The Invasion, by JoeMerl (part 3): "There was a pause. 'Jane?' 'Yeah?' 'Please tell me that was all a dream.' To my own surprise, I started laughing. Or at least making a nervous tittering sound that sort of resembled laughter. 'Yeah. Definitely. We’ll both wake up tomorrow and it’ll be like none of this ever happened.'"

  • Blessings of the Moon -- Chapter 3, by Fhujeth_x (part 2): "'Mom!' She tripped heading down the stairs, 'Are you home?' She nervously mumbled, 'You forgot to--' 'Come on Stacy.' The figures of her mom, sister, and father stood in church attire, in an almost eerie, somewhat 'children of the corn' way. 'It's time for church'"

  • Clique Swap, by psychotol (part 35): "Quinn: 'Well, been an adventure, but to be honest, I’m glad to see the back of it.' Stacy: 'Yeah, it was pretty exciting except for the Sith trying to kill us and that prisoner we had to torture.' Deliah: Offscreen: 'What???'"

  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (parts 38 and 39): "Daria was about to say something, when the auditorium lights dimmed down, and the movie started. Daria was taking a handful of popcorn, when she felt Trent place his arm across the back of her seat. “Trent,” she whispered, 'It’s okay. You can put your arm around me.' 'Oh...' he whispered, moving his arm down to lay across Daria’s shoulders." (Part 39)

  • A Distant Lawndale (Part Two), by Arena del Sur (COMPLETE!): "'Dad... I... I swore... that I'm not defeated yet. And as soon as you came back... we'll figuring out any solution...' A waxing moon was raising over on the day sky, a little beautiful sparrow flew over the place where I was on my knees and raised their flight. I don't know why, but in that very moment I felt an irresistible desire to sleep."

  • DW: The Many Doctors (Non-Daria), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "'Good idea, but the TARDIS wouldn’t know where to find its future self!' Felicia said. 'Not necessarily. I once found out that the TARDIS had catalogued console rooms that didn’t exist yet. Perhaps it knows where it is going to be shortly after the incident in which you are transferred here,' the Doctor said. 'That makes no sense, a catalogue of console rooms that didn’t exist yet?' Tamsin asked. 'That was what it said,' the Doctor said."

  • Dylan, by J-D (part 4c): "Rod didn’t have anything better to do than turn up for the grand launch of FitzPatrick’s ridiculous baby, Café Lawndale, the new coffeehouse for ‘young adults’. He figured some of the performances would have to be stupid enough to justify the price of admission, so he brought his sketchbook along."

  • Ethan Yeager in Lawndale: Ch 5 Alien Laser Dance Party!, by Shiva (parts 2 and 3): "'I was wanting to ask your guy’s advice on something.' 'Shoot.' Josh replied. Mack sighed and continued with, 'Jodie and I... Well we’re on the rocks and I do like her, and maybe once loved her but I don’t think its going to work out, But I don’t know how to break it off.'" (Part 3)

  • First Impressions (IC: Daria and Jane:Enemies at first sight), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Jane walked into self esteem class and saw the new girl sitting in the front row. Jane frowned and took a seat behind her. Halfway through O'Neill's opening speech, the girl raised her hand and interrupted. Jane grit her teeth and stood."

  • God Save The Esteem ep41: Is It Fun Yet?, by Charles RB (part 11): "For the last few weeks, her thoughts had been bleak and focused on her faults and pointlessness, and when they hadn’t been about that there’d been nothing, her mind a blank void. Nihilism had been a comforting blanket. More and more, she was thinking about other things. She was missing Jane and Tom, really missing them, not just having a pain in her chest but thinking – when she bothered to think – that everyone around her had to go."

  • How Do You Judge a Problem Like Amelia?, by Charles RB (parts 1 - 3): "When the stranger blew into town, past the gang tags and the urine marks and the old bullet scars from last year’s block war, she saw another reason why it sucked. A lanky blond reason in urban camouflage that you could see a mile off, waving a sawn-of Colt Piecesmaker repeater with “eet thiz” written on the barrel, yelling 'FREEZE OR DIE MUTIE SCUMBAG!!!'. 'Um.'" (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Mad About The Boy, by LongSnakeMoan (COMPLETE!): "I became aware, well re-aware, of him when I by chance saw him on stage with his band. I'd stumbled into some dirty place called The Zon one evening searching for a drink after a long, hard day at school."

  • Ms. Barch Gets Made Over (Scenes Daria Fanfics should have: Just Desserts), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Good morning Ms. Barch.' a masculine voice said to her while Janet tried to get her bearings, her vision was blurry but slowly focused upon the face in front of her to reveal..."

  • The Secret Life of Penny Lane: The New Partner, by 11tee (part 1): "Penny walked up to the haybale and grimaced. Carbon arrows weren't cheap. At least they didn't come out of her pocket, though. She pulled each arrow out and examined the tip and fletching prior to slipping each in her quiver. The three bad arrows accompanied the nine good ones, though she unscrewed the field tips on those so they sat lower in the quiver. She knew her accuracy was amazing, but she never wanted to compete. She was content knowing she was as good an archer as anybody alive, and she hunted the most dangerous game."

  • Tales from the Daria Eaterbase (Pie, Pie, My Darling), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "Helen was surprised to open the door to see her (elder) daughter, accompanied by a police officer. 'Helen Morgendorffer?' the man asked. At her uneasy nod, the officer continued. 'We got a call frm Playhouse 99 that your daughter was...exposing herself.'"

  • Undying Love, by BrownEyedBagel (part 3): "He made his way through the ruins of Lawndale trapped in his thoughts. This wasn’t the first time he had lead someone to their death; but he intended it to be the last."

  • An Unexpected Friend; of the Aquatic Variety (Iron chef: The Morgendorffers get a Pet), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Jane followed Daria into her room. It was exactly as she had described it, with padding on the walls and bars in the windows. 'Wow,' she said. She took it in. A poster of a half-unearthed skeleton, a plain bed, a television on a trolly, models of a heart and a slice of cheese, another televison on a ceiling mount and a bookshelf with a computer set-up. Not to mention a Kafka poster. However, between the computer and the books was a small aquarium."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: The Morning After), by 45Ranger (COMPLETE!): "Sonny - Hey, what's up? Talk to me. Daria - I kissed your boyfriend."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: The Morning After), by Greystar (COMPLETE!): "(Start 1950s era wholesome household Leave it to Beaver type music) (Jake has a huge, way too happy smile that would make even Stephen King think twice.) 'Hi there! Welcome to Lawndale! The greatest place in the world to raise a family! I know, because me and the wife and kids just love it here. Come on in, and I’ll introduce you around....'"

  • Worldburner Finale: The Heart of the Matter, by Erin M. (COMPLETE!): "But worst of all were the two words burned into Reiko's flesh, standing out in raised pink and black welts on her back: 'WAR'S OVER.' 'What the hell does that mean?' Richard said, looking at Archangel. The Ringbearer huffed through his nostrils. 'Nothing good,' he replied. 'If anything I--'"

Spring Has Sprung! Fall Has Fell!

Lots of interesting tidbits for this day, so get ready. "The Story of D" premiered nine years ago today, midway through the fifth season of Daria. The episode's title was based upon the title of a famous pornographic novel, The Story of O, about which no more will be said here. Look it up on your own. "The Story of D" was embarrassing enough for Daria, who is at a low point when she goes over to Tom's house to blame him for her story being turned down by a magazine. The shame of it. The image at left is Daria's face when she realizes that she has been... (duh DUNNN)...
REJECTED!!!

Today is also the spring equinox, at 1:32 PM EST (adjust for your time zone). You may dance around the Maypole and throw flowers or whatever. It's *Spring*! (This holiday is applicable to the Northern Hemisphere only; it's the autumnal equinox below the equator, where everything is backwards.)

Because this is springtime, this day is also the Persian/Iranian new year's day, celebrated as such for the last 3,000 years; Ostara, a pagan holiday (Mabon in the Southern Hemisphere); Equinox Earth Day (some say it is the real Earth Day); a holiday I cannot pronounce in Japan, there for admiring nature; Chunfen in China; International Astrology Day; the International Day of the Francophonie (party hard if you speak French like Daria and Jodie); St. Cuthbert's Day (for Dungeons & Dragons game enthusiasts); Sham el-Nessim in Egypt; and (most importantly for this fandom) World Storytelling Day. The storytelling theme for this year is "light and shadow."

Oh, and it is also Extraterrestrial Abductions Day. Srsly. Poor Artie. Tiffany is the E.T. poster girl at right.

The downside is, a tragic event occurred six years ago today in one of the many Dariaverses out there. A sad and magnificent story.

Do you know of any other crossover appearances of characters from Daria besides those given here? If so, drop a note and the item will be added to DariaWiki.

ART!!!

PPMB
  • Finn Morgendorffer 38: Fractures, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 1): “I understand if you’re weirded out. I mean, dating your buddy's ex doesn't jive with the dude code.” “The code is malleable. Us guys are nothing if not understanding of our buddies. You two are both my friends, and I care that your happy. If you’re happy and she’s happy, that’s all I’m concerned about.”
  • Getting a Bye, by Disco316 (COMPLETE): Daria sat in her room, pondering how best to phrase her question for the first, and quite possibly last, test she’d ever have to give. As she finalized her test, a knock was heard at her door. She saved her work and called, “Chaos reigns within.” The door opened, revealing Sandi. She was wearing a very low-cut burgundy top with a black micro miniskirt. “Hello, Daria.” Daria looked around, unsure what to think of the scantily-clad Fashion Club president before her. “Um, I think you have the wrong room, Sandi.” “Oh, Daria, Quinn and your parents left for a movie,” said Sandi. “They won’t be back for a couple hours. This is between you and me.”
  • Stacy Rowe, Seeker, by jtranser (continued): "As far as ThirdSight is concerned, you're just another predator trying to get in the game. And the only thing they haven't yet decided is what sort of cage to put you in."
  • Uplinked, by Silver (COMPLETE!): Hiro: Cynic, this is insane. / RacheIsGod: All the more reason to go for it. / CynicalData: Shut up, please. I'm working. (Daria/Cyberpunk 2020 RPG)
