Who's the REAL Airhead Now?

It seems that Kevin and Brittany are going for a ride on Hot Air Balloon Day, but I wouldn't count on either of them knowing how to fly that thing or navigate, so that's probably the last we'll see of them for awhile. Jake, if he can overcome his fear of heights, could take Terry Barry Barlow up on his ballooning offer but I hope they make sure Arno comes with them.

Mrs. Bennett should know that today is the anniversary of the birth of both Adam Smith in 1723 and John Maynard Keynes in 1883. She could try to teach the class about both economists, but I suspect the lesson would only devolve into yet another incomprehensible diagram.

Fanfic Update!
  • But You Always Knew the Truth, by riotsquirrrl (part 6): "'What else are you doing this weekend, anyway?' Jane always knew the right way to needle Daria into doing something."

  • Daria's Party Addition, by DrT9999 (parts 16 and 17): "When the football season was finally wrapped up in early November, what passed for the social scene in Lawndale took a breather. However, that also meant that the end of the first trimester would be just over a week before the short Thanksgiving break." (Part 17)

  • Dude, Where's My Life?, by wilddogjj (part 1): "Kevin and Brittany's twenty-year-old daughter, Angie Thompson, was driving to the Lawndale State campus in her 2021 Corvette, a sweet-sixteen present from Grandpa Steve. As she drove, she was deep in thought."

  • Harry Potter Morgendorffer: Kitting Out For Hogwarts, by Meester_Lee (part 41): "Harry’s and Daria’s acceptance letters for Hogwarts and Ilvermorny spurred a flurry of activity in the Morgendorffer household."

  • Is it The Purge Yet?, by darialalalalala (part 4): "Daria woke up to Jane rubbing her eyes. 'Damn, did anyone have a rough night?' Jane said."

  • Reflections, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Quinn awoke and opened her eyes. She took in the sight of the Lane’s guest room as she got out of the bed."

  • Spider Quinn 17 Tempestuous Origin of Mysterio, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "It wasn’t long before Peterson arrived at the Historia. 'I knew you would be here, Daria,' she said after she had ordered breakfast herself."

The Airhead Pilots a Head Full of Air

Brittany and Kevin are having a blast on Balloon Ascension Day, although I fear it might be a bit cold for ballooning. That won't stop Terry Barry Barlow, though, as long as he has his (not-so) trusty Arno!

Jane, meanwhile, would rather celebrate Play God Day by taking people she knows and having them do whatever she wants. You know, just like a fanfic writer! Make 'em crawl, Janey!

Who's the Airhead Now, Kevvy?

Kevin's always had a swelled head, but it's even worse for Hot Air Balloon Day! If you take part in this one, do not go with Terry Barry Barlow. Arno's okay, though, as long as you don't get him started on the teeth.

Economics teacher Mrs. Bennett will be glad to know that today is also the anniversary of the births of both Adam Smith in 1723 and John Maynard Keynes in 1883. Or maybe she won't. It's hard to know what school of economics she prefers, because her diagrams are completely insane.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Girl, by ladyevil (part 6): "At the end of the school day, Daria stood outside the library with Jane and Alfred."

  • Chrissy Had a Boo-Boo, by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "Wanda Wendt was pissed off. She was so pissed off that she’d backed him against a wall in an alley off Degas Street and for the first time Chris Griffin wondered if he might have gone too far."

  • Feast of Fools, by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "The house is a fairly decent white sided two story. Inside was Nicole. An exuberant Jamie entered the room. 'Nicole,' he said, 'Do you know what day it is?'"

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 23): "Shadow laughed as Avalon told her something about the crows and ravens that just kept storming the corn plants in his garden, then she tossed a few coins into a basket for a young lady that played her guitar in a corner, they walked the pedestrian street between a cafe and a wine shop and it was then when they saw her at last."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by LadySparrow (part 1): "Daria climbed into the driver’s seat of the rented U-haul after double-checking that the sliding door in the back was securely in place."

  • Semiversary, by Erin M. (part 1): "The late February sun rose over Caladan Cemetery, the rays slowly rolling over the grounds and various plaques and monuments that marked the final resting places of many former residents of Lawndale. Except one."

  • Shadows of a Sick Sad World, by Hawkeye01 (part 5): "'So, I’ve been thinking,' Brittany said as she and the others stopped for lunch. 'Thought I smelled smoke,' Jane replied."

More Proof That Kevin is Full of Hot Air

Kevin and Brittany are going on a little trip for Hot Air Balloon Day, but with their skills I suspect it will turn into a very long trip. Too bad they didn't have Arno the Danish balloonist around to help them, but he's probably still trying to be the first person to solo around the world twice. Good luck to him on that.

Today is also National Doughnut Day, so let me just give my best wishes to all of you twisted little crullers out there.

And You Thought BRITTANY Was the Airhead!

Brittany and Kevin are taking flight for Hot Air Balloon Day, and I'm sure there are at least a few people who hope that they'll stay up there. Jake might take the opportunity to conquer his fear of heights, especially if those clouds that look like his old man are still hanging around.

Fanfic Update!
  • Am I A Grownup Yet?, by jones2000 (part 9): "'How are you?' My career is in freefall, my family is nuts, I almost had a coronary last night, and I'm starting to realise that maybe Jane knows more about me than I'm entirely comfortable with... 'Good.'"

  • Beach Daze, by WildDogJJ (part 2): "The Fashion Club are at the beach showing off their new bikinis. Sandi is wearing a red bikini while Tiffany is in an aqua green bikini and Quinn is in a blue bikini. They are standing outside of the bathhouse, which Stacy refuses to come out of."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (part 68): "'So what did you say then?' said Audelia Custis. 'I told her the truth, that I did work for the MACUSA and that I was a social worker,' said Ellen."

  • Daria the Vampire Slayer: Hell Comes To Texas, by Charles RB (part 10): "When the sun went down, Daria reluctantly sought out Rick - who was in the local music shop, trying to pick up the 19-year-old on the till by claiming he'd had Rip Rig + Panic perform at a party he threw."

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 25): "Who does he think he is? Picking up Miss Easy Teen while I was right there? What was wrong with me? I was in my new blue bikini, which I bought just for him."

  • Pack Mentality, by Princess_Pasta (part 2): "Like Gregor Samsa, Daria found herself undergoing a transformation. Thankfully, for her sake, she didn't find a monstrous insect staring back at her in the mirror but her reflection was strangely clear and crisp."

  • Quinn Got In The Car, by Lady Evil (part 6): "Helen mixed up a rum and Coke for herself at the dinner table, sipped it and sighed. Had she really been a bad mother? If so, could she undo what she had done? It was nearly eighteen years straight of maternal fuck ups. How could she repent?"

  • A.R.C Chapter 10 Imprisoned, by ST91 (COMPLETE!): "Thinking about it, Daria realized that insulting her sister and her mother hadn't been a good idea. Her outburst had given Helen an excuse for ground her."

  • Skin Deep, by Kristen Bealer (parts 4 and 5): "'Well, obviously the aliens will take you back to their home planet and make you their queen,' Jane suggested when Daria told her about it a few days later." (Part 5)

  • Teaching is a work of heart, by RĂ©mi (part 12): "Morgendorffer house. Daria and Quinn are at the kitchen table. Daria : No, Quinn, you aren't allowed to date the instructor."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Send in the Clones), by LongSnakeMoan (COMPLETE!): "'You get up when I tell you to get up or when I leave. You understand?' 'Nathan, please. I'm sorry, I really am, but I need to get up now.'"

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries #2), by Brother Grimace (parts 186 and 187): "It was a pleasant Friday morning - the last day in May, as well - so Jaime decided to hold 'Homeroom' outside in the 'pocket park' located between Legion Tower and the main parking lot." (Part 187)

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Saga Goes On), by YouthofOz (COMPLETE!): "Skyler examined the vial for a moment, then looked to Upchuck. 'A love potion?' he asked, unimpressed."

Who Wants to Tear Open the Rip Panel with Their Teeth?

Mrs. Bennett is helping us celebrate Balloons Around the World Day, although I'm surprised she's not making little balloon animal Fuzzy Wuzzy Wee-Bits. I hope Jake doesn't get any ideas about ballooning around the world, because I'm sure he wouldn't want to have any more branches removed.

Brittany has an additional message in honor of International Day for Older Persons: always wear your sunscreen. Wise advice, Brittany. Thank you for that.

Up, Up, and Away . . .

On this day, two and a quarter centuries ago, two French brothers named Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier sent aloft an unmanned balloon that reached an altitude of over a mile. This was the first public demonstration of hot-air ballooning, and it marks an important point in aeronautical history. Since Daria and her father once . . . oh, wait, that was just Jake. Since Jake once flew in a balloon ("Of Human Bonding") and had to have a tree limb removed from his body later on, this historical factlet is relevant to Daria. Thank you for listening. Um, reading.

Yawning all over the place, have to do a few more things before crashing early. Cheerio!
