"It's only a matter of time!"

Quinn is doing everything she can to celebrate Make Your Dream Come True Day, and by "everything" I mean she's wishing very hard but not making any actual effort to change anything. I hope your dreams come true today, unless your dreams involve the ghost of Mrs. Sullivan or funhouse mirrors or becoming your younger sister. Wow, Daria's dreams were something else.

If you believe that it takes more than wishful thinking to make dreams come true, that's both reasonable and appropriate because today is also International Skeptics Day! This one would be a good one for Daria, who tended to be skeptical of pretty much everything.

Finally, feel free to enjoy Poetry Break Day by reading some of your favorite verses, but I don't recommend inviting Quinn to join you. One can only hear "The Greasy Fry" so many times before the magic wears off.

It's a Bird! It's a Lane!

Jane is up, up, and away for National Superhero Day, but I think she's taking her friend's job away. See, Daria has already said that "at night, I fight crime in a stretchy-stretchy costume" and I don't think she would appreciate the competition.

Meanwhile, let's hope that neither Quinn nor Andrea get it into their heads to celebrate Great Poetry Reading Day. On the other hand, I'd be happy to hear another poster contest gem from Jane and Daria...as long as Ms. Li and Mr. O'Neill don't get to it first.

All of the Daria characters who are in relationships should know that today is Kiss Your Mate Day and it's open season for smooches. Maybe someone should have told Daria that it was never Kiss Your Mate's Mate Day, but I suppose it's too late for that now.

Roses are Red, Your Soul is Dead....

Good news! Andrea is going to regale us with a few rhymes about rotting flesh in honor of World Poetry Day. This is good news because the alternative was to listen to Quinn's latest masterpiece about greasy fries.

If you're in the mood to laugh instead, you could always take Jane's advice and watch poetry being read by puppets to celebrate World Puppetry Day. Just imagine, gorgeous sonnets being recited by puppets flailing their skinny little puppet arms!

Daria might be interested to know that today is National Teenager Day, so there's an entire holiday just for her and her fellow teens. However, the holiday doesn't include getting the day off school, so I doubt she'll be very impressed by it.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Morgendorffer vs Velma Dinkley, by kllngjk2 (COMPLETE!): "Lawndale, Maryland. Daria Morgendorffer just returned home from a Alice Cooper concert; she went there with Jane Lane, her close friend."

  • Death of a Muscle Car, by wilddogjj (parts 1 and 2): "Quinn, Jim, their son Timmy and his girlfriend Q were gathered in the driveway. Jim was less than thrilled." (Part 2)

  • Quinn-tessential, by riotsquirrrl (COMPLETE!): "Oh God, how embarrassing. She realized that she had fallen for her sister's boyfriend. Quinn trudged up the stairs to go to her room."

  • Spider Quinn 15 The New Challenges, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "Jamie looked around as Mr. Elders gave a tour of the Solarium. 'It looks more like a lair than a solarium.'"

Awwwwwww!

Helen and Jake are just adorable together for Cuddle Up Day, and they look so happy that it's easy to recognize this as a fantasy sequence rather than real life. I would like to think that Helen and Jake do have their moments of calm and togetherness, at least in between the phone calls from work and rants about childhood.

When they're done with their one-on-one time, they could spend some quality time with Quinn by taking her out for lunch and listening to her poetry in honor of National Take a Poet to Lunch Day! She could even regale them with the greasy fry poem.

Daria, however, would far rather be burned at the stake like Joan of Arc, who was born on this day in 1412. I'm not sure if the prospect of spending time with her family or listening to bad poetry is worse to her, but either one would drive her to, in her own words, order a stake.

Always Wear Your Sunscreen!

Brittany's paying a visit to Better Days Nursing Home for Senior Citizen’s Day, and I have no doubt that she'll be as popular there as she is at school...possibly because her high-pitched voice can likely be heard by even the deafest residents. Maybe Daria will visit Mrs. Blaine with her latest Melody Powers story, because who doesn't enjoy an appreciative audience--or at least an audience who pretends to be appreciative?

Happy birthday to the American Bar Association, which was founded on this day in 1878. I'm sure Helen would be happy to know that one of the cornerstones of her profession is still going strong, although I wouldn't expect her to take any time off to celebrate.

Finally, let's hope Quinn doesn't decide to celebrate National Poets Day, especially because I'm not sure that the words she generates actually count as poetry. I'd even rather listen to Andrea's poems than that greasy fry opus.

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 40): "At first, the shaken Quinn could do nothing but to stay there in silence, crying and shivering in the shadows as her once safe refuge threatened to fall and collapse at any moment."

  • A Dumbass and The Cynic, by janendaria4life (COMPLETE!): "It was a normal day in Highland High School, and Daria Morgendorffer was sitting at her seat in Mr. Van Drisessen's classroom."

  • Reverse the Chase, by BracedRhombus (part 1): "'Hello, ladies!' A smarmy voice cut into Daria and Jane’s discussion about their weekend plans."

Deal Me In!

Mack's wondering if anyone wants to join him for a game on National Poker Day, and yes, jacks are wild. He's short on cash as usual at the moment, but can raise you the tender liver of a newborn babe.

On second thought, perhaps you'd be better off celebrating Poetry & The Creative Mind Day, where no livers need to be involved at all. However, if Quinn offers to share one of her poems then don't accept under any circumstances.

Honestly, at this point I think I'd rather just go give Future Daria a hand with her many cats in honor of National Cat Lady Day. Maybe I'll help her throw out those thirty-year-old newspapers while I'm at it.

Fanfic Update!
  • The Many Saints of Lawndale, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Stacy sat behind the anchor desk at the news studio making a last-minute makeup check in a hand mirror while her co-anchor, a middle-aged man with a Magnum, PI mustache, was checking his hair." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Party at 111 Howard (Iron Chef: Party at Casa Lane), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 7): "'Don't worry, Miss Morgendorffer. No other faculty members are coming.' He looked at Jane. 'Other than Defoe of course. She'll be here shortly.'"

  • The Witch and The Ring, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 5 - 8): "After having killed so many victims through those dark years, this was the very first time that one of them had fought back." (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8)

Anyone Have a Rhyme for "Geriatric"?

Quinn is looking very...mature...for Senior Citizen’s Day, and I'm sure Sandi can't wait to rub it in. Unless Sandi has aged even less gracefully, in which case I expect the three Js will be kicking each other's canes out from under them in order to impress Quinn.

On the bright side, they can all look forward to the latest generation of Kevins and Brittanys to come read to them!

Perhaps they'll even get to hear some poems, since today is also National Poets Day. Then again, the last poem Daria read to a senior didn't go over too well, so maybe not. Hey, Quinn, want to regale us with a dramatic reading of "The Greasy Fry"?

Thooooose Staaaars are Reeeeeallly Shiiiiny!

I'm not sure if Tiffany is celebrating International Astronomy Day or if she's just trying to find someone in the universe who actually cares whether or not she looks fat. I just hope she doesn't find any aliens. Can you imagine extraterrestrials looking for intelligent life, and the first human they meet is Tiffany?

Today is also Great Poetry Reading Day, and Quinn needs to put her greasy fry poem away. I said great poetry!

Cuddle Up With a Poet!

Jake and Helen look especially cute for Cuddle Up Day, which is a nice reminder that sometimes they can actually be sweet together instead of arguing with each other. Of course, the fact that this image comes from a fantasy sequence kind of undercuts that claim, doesn't it?

Today is also National Take a Poet to Lunch Day, and what poem could be more appropriate to the occasion than "The Greasy Fry"?

"I'm here. But where are you?"

Andrea's about to favor us with a dramatic reading about rotting bags of flesh for Bad Poetry Day, and it's still a better choice than Quinn's greasy fry masterpiece. Poor Stacy is probably still giving her poems away for free.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Jane's Addition," which aired on this day in 1999. It was the beginning of the infamous Triangle, but we didn't know that at the time. In hindsight, we probably would have rather seen a repeat of that poem about fries instead.

Fanfic Update!
  • Applied Statistics, by abe (part 1): "'Dammit!' Jane exclaimed as she slammed the door behind her, 'I know I always ridiculed that idea of predestined soul mates that Maria kept babbling on about, but right about now I'm starting to wish that they really did exist!'"

  • Doctor Who: Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Felicia Lovell entered the Console Room, where the Doctor and her other companions were. They were observing the TARDIS's progress through the vortex. For what seemed to be two to three months, the TARDIS had been going off course."

  • Erin Chambers, by OzFerret (part 43): "Erin woke slowly. Her hip pressed through the foam mattress onto the boards below. The light blanket cocooned her. The room was warm and the air suffused with the miasma of bodies. She did not want to wake, sleep felt comforting."

  • Vulnerable - HurtComfort - Daria Fanfiction, by QueerPhilosopher (COMPLETE!): "Daria opened her eyes reluctantly and listened to the dreary patter of rain outside. She scanned her room with bleary eyes; still adjusting to her new bedroom."

Staaaaaar Light, Staaaaaar Bright....

Tiffany's doing a little stargazing for International Astronomy Day! Knowing Tiffany, she's probably spending less time looking for Sirius and Proxima Centauri and more time seeking Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift.

Today is also Great Poetry Reading Day, so if you'll wait just a minute Andrea and Quinn will be here to recite some of their favorite classics about rotting flesh and greasy fries. Hey, where are you going?

Fanfic Update!
  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 37): "The following day passed quite normally ... at least until lunchtime. Daniel, as usual, sat alone, eating his food in relative tranquility. At some point, however, a strange thing happened; he heard a female voice calling him."

  • Daria of Morsang-sur-Orge, by RĂ©mi (parts 16 - 18): "Jeanne : Admit it, Trente : we’re lost. The night was falling, and they were still in the middle of the forest, whith no visible road or path to follow." (Part 17) (Part 18)

  • Nauseating Prize, by Lady Evil (part 2): "Tom stood on the Landons’ doorstep with a bouquet of white roses, mayflowers and anthurium. He worried for a minute if a gift of white flowers would be taken the wrong way."

  • Unnamed story (The 1002 Deaths of Tom Sloane), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Tom looked at the strange box. It was a small puzzle box that Jane has given him in order to show that there were no hard feelings."

"Oh freddled gruntbuggly, / Thy micturations are to me / As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee."

Andrea's going to read you some of her original pieces for Bad Poetry Day whether you like it or not, so sit down and appreciate some poems about rotting bags of flesh. Otherwise she might send Quinn out to recite some gibberish about greasy fries.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Jane's Addition," which aired on this day in 1999. Love him or hate him, Tom was a significant change to the show, and you can't deny that he shook things up. Whether or not the result was positive or not is up for debate.

"I just found out that poems don't even have to rhyme. How easy is that?"

Everyone quiet down, because Andrea wants to share another masterpiece about rotting bags of flesh for Great Poetry Reading Day. Don't complain; it could always be Quinn's stupid greasy fry poem instead.

Also, nine years ago today, fans began to receive their long-awaited Daria DVD sets. Although the sets were hardly perfect (the edited version of IICY? Really?), it was an important day for fandom.

"Puppets make anything funny!"

Tiffany's looking a little less artificial than usual for World Puppetry Day, but I think she may want to be careful. If the strings get tangled, she might start to sound like the Rattling Girl of Lawndale.

If puppets aren't your thing, then how about World Poetry Day? Quinn's got a new masterpiece ready and...okay, I'll show myself out.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria The Temptress, by WildDogJJ (part 9): "Daria is in her usual seat next to Paul. She's wearing a tight red t-shirt."

  • No Rain, by Lady Evil (part 39): "'Dr. Becky?' Daria asked during a therapy session. 'Do you think I could have a copy of that story I gave you? I'd like to give one to Jane, now that we're back on speaking terms.'"

  • A Shared Suffering, by YouthofOz (COMPLETE!): "Once she was unable to scream any more, Quinn scrambled back across the passenger seat, through the open door and out of the car." Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8) (Part 9) (Part 10)

  • Timmy The Arsonist (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Seven year old Teddy Carbone is walking to the check out desk with several books. At the counter is a woman in her mid thirties with shoulder length hair that, depending on where you draw the line, is either light brown or dark blond with thick glasses." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Together, by atiyatortilla (part 5): "The Zon was more popular than Elsie anticipated. It was a small club, fitting for a place like Lawndale, and she expected to be underwhelmed. Instead, she found herself stepping into chaos."

  • Unnamed story (IC: Hell is Crossed People), by Dark Kuno (COMPLETE!): "Sandi and Tiffany had managed to escape the initial chaos and slaughter as the first few of what people were calling the 'crossed' began slaughtering their way through Lawndale."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Fictional Reaction), by Kuriamo22 (COMPLETE!): "'Dr. Henderson?', Daria called out as she calmly walked down an empty hallway of the research facility she had found herself in this morning."

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries #2), by Roentgen (part 178): "After their meeting with the Yakuza, there were only three days left in the Asia tour. On March 12th, there were the last of the personal meetings with charity workers, celebrities, scientists, educators, and of course, Japanese college students."

  • Veronica in Lawndale, by ST91 (parts 1 and 2): "Veronica Morgendorffer looked at herself in the mirror and the image of an 18-year-old girl returned her gaze." (Part 2)

Stacy's Still Giving Her Poems Away for Free

Andrea's prepared a dramatic reading for Bad Poetry Day, but I think she's got a long way to go before she'll beat Quinn's masterpiece. If song lyrics count, then Trent's also going to be stiff competition on this one.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Jane's Addition," which first aired on this day in 1999. There weren't any bad poems that I can remember, but we were...treated...to Jane's unique style of singing and introduced to fandom's most controversial character, Tom Sloane.

No Vogons, Please!

Andrea would like everyone's attention for National Great Poetry Reading Day. Even if you aren't in the mood for poems about rotting bags of flesh, remember it could always be worse: the poem could be Quinn's.

Today is also Kiss Your Mate Day, but Daria might want to keep her distance from Tom right now. Helen's probably racing over at this moment with some snacks. Brittany and Kevin, meanwhile, should probably try to come up for air pretty soon.

It's a Big Improvement from that "Greasy Fry" Poem!

Daria is reading one of her favorite poems by Emily Dickinson, who was born on this day in 1830. We know that Ms. Barch is also a fan, although I think her admiration stems mostly from the number of X chromosomes possessed by Dickinson than anything else.

Fanfic Update!
  • Brittany Gets a Phone Call (IC: Brittany at Great Prairie State), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Brittany smiled as she finished making her bed. 'There!' She said to herself happily, 'Nice, new pink sheets and a matching bedspread.'"

  • Daria: High School Reunion, by Serrallonga (part 1): "JAKE: (Talking to the video camera) DAMN doomed camera! It's my daughter's Prom, you traitor, you little... example of the dictatorship of the machines! Why don't you just... do SOMETHING?"

  • DW: The Many Doctors (Chapter 15), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Ten minutes later, there was a commotion in the Sherriff's office. 'Has this man done anything wrong?' the Sherriff asked. 'Nothing,' Felicia admitted. 'I thought you could ask him what he's doing in this town,' the Doctor said."

  • The Great and the Good: Hemming's Way, by ognawk (part 1): "The doctor returned and handed Melissa the baby. 'Congratulations, Melissa, it's a girl.'"

  • Hate/Love (Shorty Shorts), by ognawk (COMPLETE!): "It was early in the morning, and Jane Lane was sat up in bed with her cell phone next to her ear, listening to Tom speak. This was a very surreal conversation to her, and one she never in her wildest dreams expected to have, yet here she was, talking about the events of the previous evening with Tom."

  • His Fault (1,001 Deaths of Tom Sloane - Part II), by SacredDust (COMPLETE!): "She was free. Free, but still hot. In fact, she felt gorgeous."

  • Shadows of a Timeless Song, by Dennis (part 10): "'I didn't get anything.' Daria sighed. 'I'm sorry. I'm not myself right now. Something weird is going on.' 'Is that why you look like hell?' Jane chimed in. Daria gave her friend a sour look. 'I doubt you'd look any better.'"

  • We Only Hurt the Ones We Love, by deneich (part 16): "We were in the middle of discussing our impressions of the first set, when Jane stated darkly: 'Oh great.' Following Jane's gaze, I noticed Kevin, Mike and two other boys – whom I recognized as classmates, but did not know their names – approaching from the opposite side of the club."

  • Worst Superhero Ever (Shorty Shorts), by ognawk (COMPLETE!): "It was a peaceful day at the Lawndale Community Bank. People were walking in and out, going about their day. Suddenly, a bunch of masked men burst into the room, wielding sawn off shotguns."

This Spud's for You

Sorry about reusing the Beavis and Butt-head "Mister Potato Head" image so soon, but I stand here before you to tell you, in complete seriousness, that today is National Potato Day. You are required by law, regardless of the country you live in or wished you lived in, to eat something that has to do in some way with potatoes: mashed potatoes, French fries, cheese fries, potato chips with or without ruffly ridges, whatever. I know you will your best.

Today is many other things as well: National Aviation Day, Gene Roddenberry's birthday (from whom we get Trekkies), Ogden Nash's birthday (from whom we get snarky poetry), World Humanitarian Day, and two years from now, Daria faces death on an alien planet. Yay! So much goodness, don't know where to begin.

Soooooooooooo... we'll start with fanfic.

PPMB
  • The Cornfield, by Smileyfax (Part 2): "How was your first day at school, Daria?" "I almost killed the school counselor," she answered matter-of-factly, watching Quinn as she listlessly pushed her food around her plate. Jake forced a laugh. "Ha HAAA! What a sense of humor! What about you, Quinn? How was your first day?" Quinn met her father's eyes for a half-second, then resumed rearranging her food. Jake carried on like Quinn had replied to him. "That's great, honey!"
  • Daria/Dorian 7: Motorcycles and Jocks Don't Mix, by LadieT (Part 1): "Hey, Dorian and Jane... doesn't Kevin look like a rebel in his new jacket? The one he got for Christmas wouldn't fit over his shoulder pads so we had to exchange it." "Where's the bike?" Jane asked. A confused look came over Kevin's face. "Huh?" "That's a motorcycle jacket," Dorian replied. "It's made out of leather to protect you from scrapes when your head's bouncing off the grill of a truck." Jane immediately added, "If you're just wearing it for style, then it's a waste of a perfectly good cow."
  • Finn Morgendorffer 56: A Journey to Eternity, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 4): Lindy laughed. “Are you free this weekend?” “I am,” Finn replied. “What’s up?” “A party. The 80's. Can you fashion disaster it?” Finn laughed. Theme parties were kinda fun if done right. And the 80's had music as great as the fashion was ugly. That would be a fun night.
  • First Loss, by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): Jackie watched the blonde storm off with a small smile. It had been cruel of her, true, but if anything was true about Jackie it was that she always spoke the truth. Kevin beamed his dopey grin and Jackie blew him a kiss for good measure. He hadn't remembered her at first, but it was hard to hold it against him. Soon the assembly was over and as the students began filing out, Jackie tossed her feathered hair and caught one of the military-looking guys' eye. A wink and a smile and the deal was done.
  • NEWER! God Save the Esteem 2: Fight for Your Invite to Party, by Charles RB (Parts 1 and 2): Quinn was going through her leather gear and trying to find the skimpiest ones she could. “Hmmm... one inch after bra or half inch? One inch or half inch, one inch or half inch...” “Is this a bad time to mention there’s a cold front coming in?” Daria stood in the doorway, the cloud behind the silver lining. “Go away, I’m concentrating. There’s some big party in Crewe Neck on Saturday and we’re gonna be crashing it.” “Countdown: T minus 72 hours. Might this be Brittany’s party?” “Yes, and might you... how do you know about a party?” “I’m invited. Not sure if I’ll go yet.” “You’re invi... MUM! DAD! DARIA’S SELLING OUT!” (NEWER! Part 2)
  • Grove Hell 2: All the Lawndale People, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): The nearer she got to Tuesday night, the worse Daria felt. Her stomach was full of acid and she was sweating, and she’d have to go through the notes every so often to avoid outbursts. She’d managed to blank out for the entirety of Maths but, luckily, Mr Ewing was used to people doing that and hadn’t picked up on it. The one bright spot: Jane muttering “everything’s set up, and I’ve ensured Trent will be awake. Well, I will ensure. I have heavy boots.” T minus six hours and counting.
  • NEW! Import/Export, by Brian Taylor (Part 1): "Hey, kid," said a voice that shouldn't have been talking, two hours after it shouldn't have been saying anything. Daria Morgendorffer had heard a lot of voices since she'd been thrown into Cook Country for using grabby fingers to fill a hungry belly. Such were the ways of the world.; such was the spirit of the times. None of those voices ever said anything worth hearing. Usually, they just wanted something. Usually that something wasn't something any sensible somebody in a skirt wanted to hear.
  • In Any Other World, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): “Girls, I realize it’s not easy moving to a whole new town... especially not for you, Daria.” She didn’t respond. She’d been staring sullenly out the window for the whole journey. “I know it was hard losing your room and Mr Van Driessen and everything, but—” “Can you drop me off here?” interrupted Quinn. “I want to make a good impression on the first day, that really helps with your rep—I mean, blow it and everyone’s gonna remember you for that, it’s like that big bird thing 'round your neck, and it’ll just look better if I arrive at school on my own and not with—” She paused just for a second. “—my dad. It’s kinda lame.”
  • Jane Lane Tries to Do Some Begging, or, Writer's Block Comix 2, by Gwrtheyrn (Part 2): At this dramatic juncture in the narrative, there came a brisk, masculine knock at the front door. Such knocks were not always good news at stately Lane manor, especially when the parents were away. Sometimes there were truant officers behind them; since it was still summer, that seemed unlikely. But, sometimes there were process servers upon the moors; was that a possibility? Jane didn't know of any bills in the red zone, but it was so easy to miss something!
  • NEWER! Kolchak: The Lawndale File, by Chris Tucker (Parts 3 and 4 and 5): "Ladies, I'm almost finished, please, sit and I'll be out of your hair in a minute." "Thanks, that's very kind of you." Her voice seemed to be sincere, but there was something maybe a little sarcastic... I don't know. She took the bench opposite me and her friend, a taller girl with stunning blue eyes and three rings in her ear joined her. The first girl spoke again, something about me being new here. "In town or in here? Yes, to both." I introduced myself, and the two girls were suitably unimpressed. Can't say as I blame them. (Part 4) (NEW! Part 5) (Daria/Kolchak: The Night Stalker)
  • NEW! The Lane That Wasn't, by LadieT (Part 20): Jane knew the moment of decision was fast approaching. Reaching down once again, a smile came over her face. Feeling the warmth, Jane thought about her life as she knew it. There were very few occasions when she felt the sense of familial love. Everyone of them involved Trent. This new life was surrounded by it. If this road is encircled by it, then Trent's road should be, too. More importantly, if she chose this other path..she wouldn't lose Trent. The one person who mattered most to her in this life was still going to be her older brother.
  • Legacy, by Getrealordie187 (Interlude 5): Sandi sits up straight in her chair, furious at the other girl's audacity. "Where do you get off talking to me like that in my own house while you call my mother by her first name and tell me about how I talk to my friends? Who do you think you are?" The brunette sits on the grass and stretches her legs out. "We're not in your house are we? This is your mother's house and she encouraged me to call her Linda when I met her earlier this week. I just think its hilarious the way you talked to that little pig-tailed girl, because you need all the friends you can get right now and you don't appear to have any.
  • Moving Pictures IV (formerly The Camera IV), by Brian Taylor (COMPLETE!): "And here I always thought the only reason you'd ever show school spirit is if..." One of the floodlights sputters out. The auditorium lights come up. A tall, scrawny kid with glasses ducks on stage from behind the curtain. Kelly emits a sudden, loud laugh. "Now I get it!" "Get what? You can't get anything," says Amy a touch too quickly. "There's nothing to get." "You're not doing this for money. You're doing this because Joey Caswell's working tech and you just want an excuse to skulk in the shadows and stare at him." There's a pause. "Shut up," Amy hisses through what sound like clenched teeth.
  • Unnamed story (Commune-ists), by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "OF COURSE we ran away! They were going to make us eat GOAT CHEESE! HOMEMADE GOAT CHEESE!"
  • Unnamed story (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by Erin M. (COMPLETE!): "And so," Daria Morgendorffer said, hands clasped behind her back as she paced in front of the suspects in the Great Lawndale High Bake Sale Caper. "The crumpled pay stub found in the basket where the cheerleading squad had their chocolate-covered bundt cake, along with the bottle of eye drops found under the Fashion Club's table when their Eyeshadow Cookies were stolen started pointing to a member of the Lawndale High faculty..." "Ms. Morgendorffer," Ms. Li said. "You can't seriously be accusing a teacher at Laaaaaawndale High to be a low-down pastry-pilfering thief!" (Daria/Captain Caveman)
  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Gangster School?), by Smileyfax (COMPLETE!): "Alright, youse mugs, simmer down!" he called out. "My name's 'Tommy' O'Neill. You know why the call me Tommy?" He opened the violin case, seized out the Thompson submachine gun inside, and emptied a clip into the ceiling. Bits of plaster rained down upon the students, all of whom seemingly unaffected by the insane act. Daria herself flinched and slumped down lower in the seat. "I wanna talk to youse all about realizing your actuality, and you all better stand up afterward and proudly proclaim 'I am', capische?"
  • NEW! Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Gangster School?), by Wraith (COMPLETE!): [Won't spoil it for you!]
  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: In Search of "Donor"), by Wormbait (COMPLETE!): "Wow, you actually had an affair with that?" Jack asked his friend while watching the auburn-haired woman in the pantsuit rail at her family from by the door to the restaurant where they were supposed to meet. "You must have been a lot braver when you were younger, Danny boy. Not hard to guess which one's yours."
  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: The Misery Chip), by smk (COMPLETE!): "Are you sure you want to try the scenario again? After what happened last time?" "Well it's completely ridiculous! Women of the day were expected to have careers and fulfill traditional female roles in the home, it's no wonder the pressure got to them. Although that woman you had me play was simply absurd! Constantly railing at everyone because a relationship ended? And besides, what do you think holodeck safety features are for?" "Very well. We'll be starting in a couple hours. But this time, please remember that it's a science class, not a combat scenario." (Daria/Star Trek: The Next Generation)

What about the limitless hordes of fanatical simuloid followers you picked up in that mystic's dream, what's his name, Doobie Baba?" "Ashlune Bubanabaar. I checked. They're busy." "Roses are red / Tom Sloane is poo..."

"Jane's Addition" turns eleven today. The final episode of Daria's third season on MTV, "Jane's Addition" introduced us to Tom Sloane, our favorite well-beaten dead horse, and it marked the end of the Daria/Trent thing, which saved Trent from incarceration.

Today is also National Bad Poetry Day in the USA, and if there's one thing we know, it's how to write bad poetry. In honor of this day, and in honor of "Jane's Addition," you are urged to write a Really Bad Poem about Tom Sloane. When I say bad, I mean it has to suck the reader right out of the chair and into the monitor. Put your contribution in the Comments section for everyone to read and enjoy (or not).
