Also in the realm of Awesome Artwork, only for this year, the amazing S.C. has depicted Quinn vs. Sandi in a catfight to the death, or whatever! It is win cubed to the awesome power! And it makes a handy-dandy background on your computer, too.

Brother Grimace e-mailed me a note about an unusual website he discovered, available only through the WayBack Machine at archive.org: Virtual DariaCards. I have no idea what it does, but have fun with it. BG wrote, "I think it's archived material from Invisigoth Gypsy's ole Trent Lane site 'Seven: Trent Lane', which was one of the first Daria sites I'd ever come across, back in 1999." Anyone know anything else about this? Ve-ry interesting. . . .

Last year was a truly outstanding time for Daria art in every way. Read over the list and VOTE!!!

When Only the Best Will Do

The curtain has rung down on the time for nominating Daria fan art for 2007, and a few comments about it are due.

First, Richard Lobinske performed a heroic job of assembling all of the known examples of Daria art, which is a job I frankly didn't pick up because it would have driven me insane. A heartfelt "Thank you!" is sent his way.

Second, but equally important, there was a vast amount of excellent artwork created last year. Much of it was from people I had never heard of before. I was taken aback by the terrific quality of the work overall, and there was an embarrassment of riches in the work I considered truly superb. I had expected a walkover by a handful, but the result staggered me. One more gi-normous "Thank you!" goes out to everyone who contributed.

In particular, the following artists produced certain works that seized my attention in a stranglehold. A very interesting series of screen shots from Scissors MacGillicutty, showing actress Louise Brooks in Pandora's Box, looking extremely Jane Lane-like. I had always thought that Natalie Portman in The Professional looked just like a young Jane Lane, so there must be more Jane Lanes out there. Anne D. Bernstein also looks more than a bit like an adult Jane Lane. There you are. Life is good, isn't it?
