"Everything is cool. Everything is love, baby."

Poor Cupid just doesn't seem to be in the mood for Valentine’s Day, and I can't say I blame him. I mean, no holiday would feel happy with a day that's both saccharine and commercial at the same time.

You have plenty of options for celebrating this one, though! You could get dumped and cry about it on a carnival ride for Ferris Wheel Day, or literally give your heart to someone for National Organ Donor Day! Better yet, you could read Daria's thoughts on the subject in her 2012 Huffington Post editorial, "What I Think About Valentine's Day." Or you could even do all three, but I'd save the heart donation for last if I were you.

Hearts and Wheels

Cupid hopes everyone is having a super-romantic Valentine's Day, but reminds you that if you aren't, there's always the Love Taser! (My advice: don't accept his offer.) Daria has already shared her thoughts on this particular holiday.

Today is also Ferris Wheel Day, so why not surprise your sweetie with a ride that goes around in circles? Try not to share a car with Stacy, though. That's a real romance-killer.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Idiot, by Lady Evil (parts 3 and 4): "Alfred’s favorite fast food hamburger was actually Whataburger, but those were hard to come by this far north." (Part 4)

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 42): "Daria put the coins in the slot and then dialed the operator. She looked around to see if there were any Muggles close enough to overhear her reading the numbers off her credit card."

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 10): "Kiara saw Felicia enter the elevator, after the culprit had used another. Unfortunately there were only two elevator doors on that floor."

"Everything is cool. Everything is love, baby."

Cupid's feeling a little down, perhaps because he's worried that Valentine's Day has become less about love and romance and more about commercialization and corporate profit. Or he's just tired of walking around in an oversized diaper. If you'd like to know what Daria thinks about Valentine's Day, look no further than her editorial "What I Think About Valentine's Day," published in The Huffington Post.

"Everything is love, baby."

Cupid is here to remind everyone that today is Valentine's Day! If you don't have a special someone, then I'm sure Cupid will let you borrow his love taser...on second thought, better not bother. Besides, just wait until tomorrow: Half-Price Candy Day is a way more fun holiday.

If you do have a special someone, then why not take them on a romantic Ferris Wheel ride for National Ferris Wheel Day? Okay, so you might end up trapped with a sobbing Stacy for the duration of the ride, but at least you'll have the satisfaction of seeing her eyes turn that really weird shade of red, because red is a Valentine's Day color! See, it all works out!

Finally, don't forget to vote for your favorites in the Daria Fanworks Awards!

Fanfic Update!
  • Coffee, by Zetor (part 2b): "Daria hung up the phone, setting it down on the coffee table before hurrying across the room and opening the door. Taking in the sight in front of her, she immediately understood why Stacy had knocked, probably with her foot, instead of ringing the bell."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Highland Years, by Meester_Lee (parts 28 and 29): "Cuthbert brought up his discovery after school. 'I found the game room,' he said. 'Ho-kay,' Daria said slowly." (Part 29)

  • Iron Chef: Truth or Dare, by nightbeast37 (part 3): "It only took ten seconds for Andrea to make a decision. 'Dare,' she said, nonchalantly."

  • Just Desserts, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'Look what I made, Kevin,' Quinn sang out as she entered the garage later that day holding a chocolate layer cake. 'No ice cream?' Daria replied with a small smirk. 'I wouldn't put up with that if I were you.'"

  • Meet the Carbones (Quinn, Season 3), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Late afternoon on Long Island, NY sees Quinn Morgendorffer and her boyfriend, Jim Carbone, walking along the Long Island Sound. Quinn is holding her dog, Storm, on a leash while admiring the beauty of it all. Jim is very quiet, which she notices." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries : Thread #2), by Roentgen (parts 100 and 101): "Daria had an entire day of nothing planned and Captain Bitting had arrived to ruin it. Captain Bitting was the firearms instructor for 'Basic Firearms', a two-week long module at the Legion Academy." (Part 101)

  • Unnamed story (World's Shortest Crossover, Part XIV: The Crossover Awakens!), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "As Jake Morgendorffer walked out in his Buxton Ridge dress uniform, he had the misfortune to be walking past a group of hippies. 'Spit! BABY KILLER!' yelled Christina L'Angelle."

"Everything is cool. Everything is love, baby."

Cupid's looking a little down because it's Valentine's Day and the only date he could find is that Irish midget again. For those of you who are in happy relationships, happy Valentine's Day! For those of you who are not, well, happy half-price candy day eve!

In the meantime, here's some Valentine's-themed fanfic for you to enjoy!

Fanfic Update!
  • Advice on Motherhood (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Oh Daria,' Kay Sloane laughed while dishing out advice, 'Motherhood is a joyless burden, it's best just to hire a Mexican nanny to do the hard work for you.'"

  • Alienation, by malakite (part 7): "Daria practically bounced out of his car as they finally stopped in front of her house. She smiled her sweetest smile as she waved to what-his-name. She made a small show of glancing about, 'adjusted' her skirt and said with faux-disappointment 'Oh, I guess Dad is home after all.Well, thanks for the ride anyway.'"

  • Alt Rock, by Indigo (part 3): "'Oh. Bummer. Hold on... you've got a sister that doesn't like Rock music?' asked Jane 'Quinn likes the music fine; it's the type of boys that go to Rock concerts that she doesn't like'"

  • Friday Night Exchange, by GlitterShrooms (COMPLETE!): "Quinn tilted her head towards the clock to check the time - Almost seven. Three. Two. One. She remained still as someone busted into her room. Like freaking clockwork."

  • Her Mother's Daughter, by Ravynstone (COMPLETE!): "'Are you sure you want to do this, Hel?' 'I'm sure.'"

  • Is This Adulthood?, by Princess_Pasta (part 3): "Thin rays of sunshine spilled their way through the gaps in my blinds, casting themselves over my eyelids. I let my eyes open, slowly, none too eager to be assaulted by the sunlight. My eyes focused on Vicki's sleeping form...or what I could make out."

  • Lawndale's Next Top Baller, by rvgonzal (parts 2 and 3): "Wearing a pink baby doll dress, her doc. Martens, same hairstyle, pink framed cat eyeglasses and light make up she looks like every 90's seventeen magazine cover girl. Daria is at the front door talking to the three js." (Part 3)

  • Nooooooo (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by SacredDust (COMPLETE!): "'Um...who's this?' Trent asked. 'Duhh, you called ME. Who's this?' a ditzy-sounding girl said on the other end." (Part 2)

  • Once You See, by lulamae-golightly (part 5): "I'm going to be like them. For years, it had been her obsession, her goal. To be like them."

  • The Red Skirts, by NapalmKracken (part 3): "'Which one are we looking for?' 'The Mahan Conference Room, sir.' Petty Officer Stacy Rowe told him, not even bothering to check the blue PADD permanently affixed to her left hand. Come to think of it he'd never seen her actually use it when he asked her anything, she knew already."

  • Sonoma Coma, by jtranser (part 14): "'Upchuck, did you really think I'd be driven mad by the power of powdered teddy bear skulls slipped into my drink?'"

  • Stop the Presses (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: Do What Now?), by SacredDust (COMPLETE!): "'No. Nope, nope. Forget it. Not reading it. Not even looking at it.' Tori Jericho shook her head in disgust as she stalked across the newsroom."

  • Unnamed story (1,001 Deaths of Tom Sloane - Part II), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'How awesome is this?!' Tom thought to himself for the millionth time as he floated in zero-g, 'I'm in outer-fucking-space!'"

"Everything is cool. Everything is love, baby."

Happy Valentine's Day! And what could be more romantic than a horrifying, way-too-revealing image of Upchuck as Cupid?

Today is also Half-Price-Candy-Day Eve, and for those who like a little less eye-gouging horror on their holidays, here's a bunch of Valentine's Day-themed fanfic for you to enjoy.

Also, here's a bonus Valentine's Day picture created by S.C. Don't worry; it's way easier on the eyes than that alter ego of Upchuck.

"Everything is cool. Everything is love, baby."

Happy Valentine's Day! Nothing quite says "love" like a half-naked Upchuck, so consider this my holiday gift to you all. Try not to get hit by Cupid's love taser or get tricked into blurting out the name of that particular someone who makes you feel like Queen Cleopatra.

Especially if that particular someone happens to be a half-naked Upchuck.

While you all try desperately to erase that image from your minds, here are a few Valentine's Day-related fanfics for your enjoyment:

The Final Word on Luuuv

We at the DFB2 hope that this Valentine's Day brings you significantly closer to your Significant Other(s). And remember, if you can't be with your Significant Other(s), you can always rent.

Or, you know, not.

Enjoy.

A Daria Photo Album of Love

For the romantic among us, the Daria Fandom Blog II presents a Very Special Pictorial of Romance, those wonderful moments in Daria that set our hearts all aflutter. Away we go!

Ah, love, sweet sweet love, it makes the world go 'round!

Stay tooned.

Hearts and Roses

It's that time of the month again when love wets us with its golden showers, and we guys get the wrong things for our Significant Others. Brittany has a few thoughts about that. Brittany also wants to share a romantic thought for those who have undergone a bit of stress in their relationships. And who could forget this unforgettable moment, so appropriate for St. Valentine's Day?

Kevin has a romantic thought to share, too. But apparently not with Brittany.

Great New PPMB Threads to Read and Expound Thereon

Stick around for moar.

"...we are compelled to ask, what is love?"

Yes, my friends and followers, love is in the air, dropping like nuclear fallout across the world, irradiating us with its rosy glow, weakening us with the sickness of desire. It's St. Valentine's Day, and Cupid is shooting his Love Taser everywhere. Will you feel the shock of passion? Will you collapse with romantic tingles when the Love Taser finds you? Beats me.

Seventy-six years ago, love touched someone in a Daria fanfic. And ten years ago in another fanfic, an important message had to be delivered by this date. Was it a missive of desire? Read the story and find out!

BTW, TelevisionWithoutPity.com has a very active message board of late about Daria and the DVDs. The link takes you right there.

Stay tooned.

More Sparkly Thoughts for Lovers

Kevin has a romantic thought to share, too.

In other news:

Disco316 has kindly listed all the nominations for best Daria Fanworks of 2008 in DariaWiki. Thank you for that!

Speaking of which, VOTE NOW in the runoff poll on PPMB for the best of a four-way tie in the awards.

Speaking of DariaWiki, more pages have been added and updated. Brother Grimace offers us Echo Base, Disco316 gave us Divaween, and Nighthawk updated Highland. All three (plus Doggieboy, Ranger Thorne, Vlademir1, and João Paulo Costa ) also worked on many other pages as well. Cheers to you!

Know of any (credible) research that's been done on the Daria fandom? Neither do I, but if you find some, tell everyone here about it.

If you have some fanfic-writing or fan-art-creating plans for 2009, tell everyone about it here, then get to work.

New fanfiction will be given in my next post. Do it to it!

Usually on holidays like this I list a lot of appropriate fanfiction to read, but instead how about YOU suggest which 'shippers are your favorite in all Daria fandom. Write down however many 'shippers you think MUST be mentioned on this day.

Not sure if I will be able to post much tomorrow, for obvious reasons. Have a nice one.

Today We Ask: What Is Love?

As we share the joy of this lovely Valentine's Day, we are compelled to ask: what is love? Yes, love, like a tiny rivulet which begins in a high mountain, crashing down rocky slopes through mud and goat poop and garbage left by campers, and only after twisting and turning for thousands of stomach-churning miles, overcoming nausea and chapped lips and hemorrhoids and uncountable other obstacles, must eventually meet and merge with that great oil-polluted ocean of love which is its birthright and its destiny. That is love.

And Anthony DeMartino wants a part of it. And you can help.

As you will surely recall, in The Daria Diaries, Mr. DeMartino sent a letter to a personal ad to ask for a chance to "attempt intimacy." Who got the letter? What happened next? Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to create a drabble (a tiny work of mini-ficlet fiction of 100 words or less) about his date, minuscule enough to fit in a Comments box below. Don't have The Daria Diaries? No problem! Here is the relevant part of the page you will need. Even a memorable line of conversation will do. Touch us! Astound us! Amaze us! Shock and horrify and gross us out! We don't care, this is the Internet and we're Daria fans!

Oh . . . and Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy V.D.!

Just a quick note to let you know I probably won't be blogging tomorrow night. Valentine's Day, you know, going out for dinner and so forth.

Richard Lobinske has done terrific work adding all the Daria Fanworks Awards to the DariaWiki. A round of applause for him, please.

And, as a special for Valentine's Day, here are three new artistic endeavors from PPMB, courtesy of (drumroll) DeviantART! Great name, that.

1. FANWANK!!! A sensitive and touching reminder of what February 14th is all about: naked lesbians and the guys who watch them. Thanks to Christ Oliver for this thoughtful and timely reworking of a classic (in-canon!) Daria/Jane moment.

2. Ukrainian Daria (WIP), by HumberBay. Ukrainians love Daria too, or at least I assume they do, and HumberBay is preparing Our Heroine for a special appearance in traditional Ukrainian dress. I think that's what that is.

3. Cuuuupiiiid, by MDetector5. Does this love taser make me look fat?

Have a great V.D. tomorrow. Party on most righteously!
