The Exciting World of Geopolitical Violence
General Buck Conroy appeared only in "This Year's Model" as part of Daria's secret scheme to undermine Ms. Li's plans involving the Amazon Modeling Agency. He cuts a dramatic figure, however, and part of his speech to the student body is worth reproducing, as it so completely defines who he is and what he's about:
"Students, young people, red-blooded youth of America! I'm General Buck Conroy, publisher of Brutal Mercenary Magazine, and I've come to your school today to find out who among you has what it takes to become a soldier for hire in today's exciting world of geopolitical violence! . . . Sad to say, America no longer engages in the kind of ground wars that made this country great! But that doesn't mean that savage hand-to-hand combat is out of your reach. Mercenary soldiers go where the money is. You not only kill, but get paid well for doing it! Whew! What a racket! In a few days, we'll have a complimentary class right in the auditorium."
Buck disappears after this, but one wonders: Were any of the students so impressed by his speech that they decided to become mercenaries, too? Is it possible that Ms. Li later found employment for the "General" in protecting the school from her perceived enemies? (Li and Conroy have an affair in Nemo Blank's "Ring Toss," but my stomach isn't up to discussing that angle any further right now.) Could General Conroy reappear in the lives of one or more LHS students later in life?
If anyone recalls other fanfic cameos by General Conroy, please note them here with your own suggestions for using him in new fanfics. He'd be great in "Apocalyptic Daria" and similar stories!

Obviously, Conroy (I think he might well be a, well, 'self-styled' general, so I'll drop the rank) might command a detachment of military contractors in Iraq, now that America does engage in ground wars again. He might encounter there Trent, or Quinn... or whoever any cruel fanfic author might want to send to Mesopotamia.

I sent Trent over there in . . . um, never mind, forget it. Sorry!
I forgot to point out that, given his speech, Conroy is probably a psychopath . . . but a nice psychopath, at least for the first two minutes.
