A Curious Footnote

In an odd coincidence, Kara Wild was busy this moment nine years ago writing a fanfic entitled, "None in the Family, Part Two: Unmasked." In this story, Jake makes a telephone call while cooking. His phone message: "Is this 911?! Emergency! I think I just set my house on *fire*!!" (He later claims he faked the call, but it is likely he didn't and managed to put the fire out.) One year later, "Fire!" comes out on MTV. Well, true, Jake had set things in the kitchen on fire before, so I don't believe anyone at MTV borrowed the idea. It's just one of those weird things.

But maybe there was something cosmic about this co-inky-dink. The burned-out Miller, in Repo Man, said it best: "A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness." Clear as water. More later.

LATE ADD: The Daria Fan Club (892 members now) has resolved its image-server problem! Lookin' good!

  • Mart of the Dead, by Smileyfax (Part 3): "And the big news is that just before Atlanta went down, the CDC reported that the infected were actually the walking dead."
  • The Young Switcheroo, by Smileyfax (Part 4): Daria put her hands on Jane's shoulders. "Jane, I think we might be long-lost sisters."

I liked the Repo Man explanation for it. :)
