Black IS Slenderizing....

It may look like Tiffany went a little heavy with the makeup, but actually she's just preparing to celebrate Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. As for the skull, well...maybe she's going to perform Hamlet and/or Romeo and Juliet?

I hope that the skull at least has healthy teeth, because it's National Brush Day and we don't want to see any cavities! Mr. O'Neill even has the perfect song for today: "Brush, brush, brush your teeth, using good hygiene, up and down and up and down and floss until they gleam." I assume he gets his music from the same place the Gupty family does.

While everyone tries to get that song out of their heads, I'll let the Morgendorffers know that today is Love Your Lawyer Day and Helen would appreciate a bit of affection. Or she would if she were home, but she's most likely at the office again. It's okay; you can love her from a distance!

Fanfic Update!
  • Alison's Last Word, by riotsquirrrl (COMPLETE!): "Alison was at the top of the stairs to the Marcy Ave subway stop on a Monday afternoon a few weeks later when her phone rang. Flipping it open, she saw that it was her gallery."

  • Busy Hands Do The Devils Head In, by psychotol (COMPLETE!): "Justitia watches the latest soul disappear off to hell and turned to Valak saying 'man I’m about ready to knock off, is that it?'"

  • Mysteries of Aurora, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Olivia and Janara approached one of the Main Library’s entrances along one of the elevated walkways. Olivia was listening to an audio guide on the University."

  • Secrets of Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (prologue): "Quinn Morgendorffer walked through the streets of Lawndale. She didn’t believe that Tiffany Blum-Deckler had thrown her out."

If You're Mean to Her, She Might Sue

Helen wants to make sure that everyone knows that it's International Be Kind to Lawyers Day, so she will be happy to accept any compliments, gifts, or--never mind, she has to leave due to an emergency at work. Please hold that thought until she gets some free time in a few months, okay?

On the other hand, any librarians (including this very blogger) will be happy to take time for National Library Workers Day. Please be sure to visit your local library and support the employees!

Finally, if you've ever wanted to change your name to Ronald then today's your chance because it's Name Yourself Day. Don't let any gazebos stop you! Daria might consider changing her name to either Esmerelda or Darya.

Just Wait Until Trent's Peanut Butter Craving Kicks In....

I think Jane and Daria should really pick a different way to celebrate Sandwich Day. I mean, we know where that sandwich has been (Daria's butt) and we don't know how long it's been in the Tank. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a microscopic civilization thriving inside that peanut butter right now.

Kevin should probably celebrate Give Someone a Dollar Day five times over, at least if he's still wearing Ms. Barch's ugly costume. I'm happy to accept bills of any denomination, so feel free to celebrate this holiday as much as you want!

I'm afraid Helen has a difficult choice ahead of her, though, because it's both Love Your Lawyer Day and Housewife's Day, and she's barely able to keep up with the stress of even one of those options. I think we all know she's going to pick work over home, so the question is really moot anyway.

Fanfic Update!
  • Avatar: The Drama Of Daria, by psychotol (part 6): "'Hello?' said Hellen as she answered a phone call as the rest of the family ate."

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 56): "We departed late the next morning: we spent part of it having Katy Harris’ funeral and burial service."

  • Happy Halloween, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (COMPLETE!): "Lawndale was for sure one of the best places to enjoy a Halloween night!"

Be Kind or Face a Lawsuit!

Helen's making sure everyone knows that today is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day, but I think only Jake will have an easy time with this one. Daria might observe International Tolerate Lawyers Until You Can Escape Their Presence Day instead.

Today is also National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, but please remember to unwrap the cheese before you make the sandwich. Comfort food is far less comforting when it comes with cellophane.

Picnic Time!

The last day of August is Eat Outside Day, marking the passing of summer and one more time to bask in the sun before fall. Drinking outside is acceptable, too. Enjoy as you wish.

Today is also Love Litigating Lawyers Day, and we send our cheer and joy to Kara Wild, our very own Helen Morgendorffer clone lawyer and Daria fan, who is braving the wilds of Australia at this moment in the capable company of her sister and Deref the Barbarian. Hey, you guys: PAR-TAY!!!

GNUz!

  • It's a Sick, Sad, Sad, Sad World, by TheExcellentS (Part 1): It was the opening day at the new Sinclair Casino and Resort built on the outskirts of Lawndale, Maryland, and the combination of high school seniors having just come off their graduation, families on summer vacation and the general social butterfly population ensured a healthy flow of customers for the occasion. A lot of the adult patrons gravitated towards the casino, where the hope would be that one lucky spin on the slots could change your life. They didn’t know it at the time, but for 10 people, their lives would change forever by the end of the week....

Litigation Tricksters, Unite!

The American Bar Association, also known as the ABA, turns 132 today. This date is even mentioned in Daria's Sick, Sad Life Planner.

To my surprise, the ABA's journal for August 2010 has a list of "the 25th greatest fictional lawyers who are not Atticus Finch." To my horror, Helen Morgendorffer is not on the list! (See comment #133, however.)

Helen, this day's for you.

Legendary animator Friz Freleng was born 108 years ago today. Hawaii became a state in the USA 51 years ago.

I plan to fill up the blank space with fanfiction later today. Hang around 4 moar.

LATE NOTE: Sorry, that didn't work. Stay tooned for tomorrow's post!

Aloha from the Fashion Club!

Stacy Rowe shakes her fashionable grass skirt in celebration of Hawaii's 50th anniversary of statehood today.

Today is also the 36th birthday of computer wizard Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google (which operates Blogger.com, which makes this blog possible: thank you!).

It is a special day in animation history as well, being the 103rd birthday anniversary of Warner Brothers animator Friz Freleng, who invented so many WB cartoon characters I can't even list them all here. Daria probably knows most of them on a first-name basis. Would Daria be as sarcastic as she is without Bugs Bunny's snarky comments?

The American Bar Association, which maintains a code of ethics for lawyers in the United States, was formed today 131 years ago. This concept must make Jim Vitale laugh loud and long.

A news item from online, by way of the Jackson Free Press (Jackson, Miss.), is "Movie Review, Sort of" about IIFY? and MTV in general.

Richard Lobinske is trolling for Halloween costume ideas for a story he's writing in the John Lane series. Go help him out and make yourself famous.

Moar on the way.

©opyright's Birthday

Two hundred and ninety-eight years ago, the first copyright law was issued in Great Britain. That law in time led directly to this statement and to the enrichment of Helen Morgendorffer's profession. And just so it's clear to all, I have no problem with that. Drive on.

Wonder if this counts as a legal holiday for Helen.
