Watch Out For Those Dark Circles!

I'm not sure if that's coffee Daria's drinking (especially because at one point during that scene her mug is a glass instead), but let's pretend it is because today is National Coffee Day! Don't tell Quinn, though. She'd be devastated.

Still, Daria should take it easy because today is also World Heart Day, and too much caffeine can't be good for her. Especially since she has a family history of heart attacks.

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 20): "'Hello mom!' Ella Anne called out happily, even standing up fast so that she could pull a chair for the sleepy Helen to sit down- 'As you can see, breakfast is ready! Nothing special, but I hope you like this special recipe of mine... I trust you slept well?'"

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5.2): "The TARDIS materialised outside the town. 'The Old West,' the Doctor said. 'That’s good. Haven’t been there for a while,' Felicia said."

  • Navel Gazing for Fun and Profit, by entrancedcat (COMPLETE!): "Upchuck - Feisty...lady! Daria - No, I won't show you my belly button."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Dad, why are we at the bank at this hour?' Daria asked as she follow Jake into the First Central Gotham Bank."

Thank You, Chocolate Cows!

Awww, look at Quinn all decked out for National Scarf Day! Unless she's hiding another neck zit, which would not be nearly as cute.

Today is also National Chocolate Milk Day, which means that if Kevin's been sidelined from the football team he should feel doubly welcome to down a few Yoo-Hoos. Not that there's ever a bad time to have chocolate milk, of course.

Maybe Cooking is Good Therapy?

Today is National Psychotherapy Day, not "Psycho Therapy" day. We're celebrating the importance of mental health care, not an admittedly-funny-but-not-a-great-look-for-the-mental-health-profession Daria episode.

This is also National Cooking Day, but please don't tell Jake about it. I think his family has suffered enough, haven't they?

Let's Hear It For the Red-Haired Dogs!

Please don't tell Quinn that today is Redhead Appreciation Day. She already appreciates herself more than enough for everyone! To all the real-life redheads out there in fandom, we appreciate you! And we'll try not to judge you by the behavior of Quinn or Upchuck.

Today is also National Checkers Day, and before you assume I'm going to make a Kevin "King me!" joke, I'll point out that the holiday actually refers to dogs in politics. And some days I wish dogs were the ones actually running things--they're straightforward, loyal, and I've never seen one praise neo-Nazis.

Be Grateful For Peace!

I see Daria is doing the absolute bare minimum for International Peace Day, and while I'm not surprised I would hope for better. What would your parents say, Daria? That is, the younger hippie versions of your parents. They'd be pretty bummed out.

Today is also World Gratitude Day, so, uh, thank you. For reading this blog and stuff. There, I also have put forward the absolute bare minimum!

Fanfic Update!
  • All American Rejects, by Lady Evil (part 5): "'Number 9....Number 9...Number 9....' Lennon’s haunting voice repeated."

  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 19): "It seemed to Ella Anne that Lawndale as her new home was just getting better and better."

  • Like a Steel Beam Through the Heart, by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Adam Rowe sat on a lounge chair eating popcorn as he watched Quinn and Jim having a major domestic spat."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by wacokid (COMPLETE!): "'Hey, look!' Jane said eagerly as she and Daria roamed through the carnival. 'Let's go on the Dungeons & Dragons ride!'"

Arrrrr! Hands Be At Ten and Two, Ye Scurvy Dogs!

I see Upchuck can dress the part for International Talk Like A Pirate Day, but can he talk the talk? Or perhaps I should say, can he talk like a pirate without saying the word "feisty"? For his sake, I hope so.

Today is also National Woman Road Warrior Day, which sounds like an excellent excuse for Daria to get behind the wheel again. Come on, Daria! Show us how far you've come from the not-timid driver you once were! But watch out for dogs, please!

She Didn't Seem Like the Cartwheel Type

Daria's celebrating National Gymnastics Day, and I'm happy to see that Helen finally found an activity Daria is willing to participate in. I don't think it'll last long, though. One look at the sparkly outfits she's expected to wear and she'll quit before you can say "back handspring."

Today is also Citizenship Day, and I hope Mr. DeMartino has his papers in order. The last thing he wants is another run-in with Immigration.

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 18): "The dreamy white stars looked so bright and distant in the frozen sky above, a few fallen leaves would fly with the wind between the trees, nothing could be heard except for a few cats in the distance and everything was quite cold and silent at Lawndale that night."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 41 and 42): "The great and orange Coulthard House certainly had all of its doors and windows well locked that day, it would take some time for Ethel and Lachlan to arrive there with the keys and yet that was not an inconvenience for Anna Felicia at all." (Part 42)

  • Like a Steel Beam Through the Heart, by WildDogJJ (parts 1 and 2): "Quinn, Jim and the triplets were at the kitchen table having breakfast. The boys had their backpacks with them as they were walking to school after eating." (Part 2)

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria sat on the floor of her room, still processing everything that had happened."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Sureia (COMPLETE!): "'Daria! Pick three cards!' 'What?'"

  • Video Assignment Chaos, by cfardellbrenorenz29 (part 4): "Fifteen minutes later, they arrived outside Jane's house. Quinn knocked on the door."

Money AND Food? Count Me In!

Tom's here to help us all celebrate Free Money Day, and I am absolutely willing to celebrate with him. Better get in line soon, though, because I expect this to be a popular one.

Today is also both National Linguine Day and National Double Cheeseburger Day, so why not take some of that free money and spend it on a nice meal? Jake will take the linguine, as long as it hasn't oxidized.

Have Chocolate or Peanuts Hijacked YOUR Brain?

Mrs. Johanssen has pulled out all of the stops for International Chocolate Day, and I for one salute her for her devotion to the chocolate cause. Today is also National Peanut Day, and few pairings go together better than chocolate and peanuts. At least in my opinion.

Finally, today is Day of the Programmer, so offer Noah Barkman some chocolate and/or peanuts to celebrate! Just make sure it's all macrobiotic.

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 17): "The heavy wooden door was finally unlocked and opened slowly, everything was dark and cold and the first thing that Ella did was to quickly carry everything inside while a shaky Anna, still not quite sure that this was a good idea, just waited there as she held to the door frame."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by britabird (part 5): "Over the next couple of months, Jane grew more cynical with each date she went on. Either the man was too dumb, or too creepy, or too much of an asshole for her to waste anymore of her time."

  • Quinn and Stacy - Esteem?, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Quinn looked at Stacy in concern as they left the school grounds. She had been silent since Mr. O’Neill said they would be up at Assembly."

  • Spare the Rod, Spoil the Quinn, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn was at the dry goods aisle. As she began to load her cart she was approached by a man with shaggy brown hair and a beard."

"What the HELL is wrong with you?!"

Looks like Jane's getting an earful for Grandparents Day, but she should keep in mind that it could be a lot worse. She could have Ruth as a grandmother. (shudder)

I hope Jake is paying attention, because today is also Emergency Number Day and I don't want to hear him asking for the number for 911. Remember that shrieking grandmas are not an emergency, no matter how irritating.

Bloggers Like Teddy Bears, Too!

I see that Daria is not feeling Teddy Bear Day, but I think she should look on the bright side. If Brittany's offering to trade her that bear for Kevin, then it's a deal worth taking!

Today is also the twelfth anniversary of my taking over this very blog, albeit in a temporary capacity. TAG, if you're reading this, I hope I've kept this up to your standards and know that you're welcome to come back anytime!

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 14 - 16): "At first, everyday life continued just as usual at Lawndale High." (Part 14) (Part 15) (Part 16)

  • The Engineer and the Time Lady, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 15): "'One Hour to Earth,' the ENH reported. 'One hour exactly?' Alpha asked."

  • The Fashion Club In Time, by Corbell (part 1): "Sandy: So, we are agreed. Makeup will be soft and natural, with light shades of lipstick, eyeshadow and blush."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 40): "Larry Fitzgerald Cappstein could not believe that it was happening all over again."

  • Neo-Lawndale (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Daria looked out of the window of the high-rise building she was in, the sight of Neo-Lawndale in all its futuristic techno, cyberpunk glory still could take her breath away."

  • Quinn and Stacy - Esteem?, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "'Esteem, a Teen. The sounds don’t quite mesh. So. it is with teens and esteem. The two don’t seem to go together. But we are here to begin realizing your actuality...'"

  • Spare the Rod, Spoil the Quinn, by wilddogjj (part 2): "While all of the kids were upstairs Quinn and Jim were in the living room, where Quinn is freaking out over her very public meltdown that day."

  • Sporting Kevin, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "There wasn’t much difference between the previous day’s parent meeting and this one, aside from some incredulous questions about Sporty."

Do Superhumans Drink Beer?

Looks like Jane has decided to go the spandex route for Superhuman Day, but in reality the holiday celebrates those with disabilities who have overcome challenges. Still, the outfit looks good on her!

Today is also National Beer Lovers Day, which Ms. Barch's ex-husband will probably celebrate. If we're (un)lucky, maybe Kevin will sing that song! You know the one I mean.

Beware of Cheese Burn!

Ted's not enjoying National Cheese Pizza Day, but that may be because he just figured out what kind of process they use. I guess the Fashion Club will be sitting this one out, waiting for "National Cheese-less Pizza Day."

Speaking of the Fashion Club, today is also International Day of Charity, so this would be an excellent opportunity to collect some go-go boots and belly chains for the needy. Or you could do something useful, I guess.

Fanfic Update!
  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 12): "Quite in a similar fashion to other High Schools in that part of the country, Lawndale High was a varied collection of reddish buildings surrounded by gardens, a parking lot of decent size and a nice football field for the school's team to practice and play important matches in."

  • How to Train Your Jock, by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Daria was sitting on the couch while her cat, Godzilla, purred on her lap. Daria herself was talking on the phone."

  • Reborn: The Origin Story Of Burnout Girl, by radiofox (part 5): "'Hello Garfield, I need you to come to my house as soon as possible; it's an emergency!'"

  • Spare The Rod, Spoil the Quinn, by wilddogjj (part 1): "Quinn and Stacy were having lunch at Pizza King. While the place is a teen hangout the thirty-something best friends still like to eat here for sentimental reasons."

  • Sporting Kevin, by Kristen Bealer (part 2): "That night, Kevin lay in his racecar bed and stared at the ceiling, trying not to listen to his parents argue."

The Carpet Doesn't Match the Drapes

I see Mr. O'Neill is trying to jump on the bandwagon for World Beard Day, but it's not a very convincing effort. I think he should just let Trent have this one, even if a goatee barely counts as a beard. At least his is real!

Today is also National Doodle Day, and you can be sure Jane will join in. Maybe she can doodle Mr. O'Neill with a better-looking beard!

Does Upchuck Sell Mary Kay?

I'm not sure if Upchuck's car is a Cadillac, but it's pink and that's good enough for Pink Cadillac Day! On a side note, is anyone else both disturbed and intrigued by the fact that Lawndale has a swinger's club? Is anyone else wondering which Daria parents might be members? Just me? Cool.

Today is also American Chess Day, which Kevin will be celebrating by demanding that everyone "King me, king me, king me!"

Fanfic Update!
  • All American Rejects, by Lady Evil (parts 3 and 4): "'MISTY! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!' Debbie shrieked when she saw the busty blonde laying in a tub full of her own blood." (Part 4)

  • Crystal Claw, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 5 - 11): "It took the shaken Daria, Helen and Jake some time to recover from the shock of everything that they had witnessed regarding Quinn so far, but they could not stay frozen at the garden forever, so eventually they ventured into the house still grasped by deep surprise, angst and even a decent dose of fear." (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8) (Part 9) (Part 10) (Part 11)

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 38 and 39): "Anna knew exactly what the specialist was just about to discover, and yet she found herself totally unable to explain any of that to her, since she did not want to even think about what happened and the flashbacks could come and haunt her again at any moment." (Part 39)

  • How to Train Your Jock, by WildDogJJ (parts 1 and 2): "At age 39, almost 40, Jamie White was the history teacher at Lawndale High. Like DeMartino before him, Jamie was also a combat veteran." (Part 2)

  • Mega Mall Mega Problems, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5): "Quinn and the others reached the food court after looking at a few stores. Quinn laid out the diagram."

  • Quinn and Stacy - Esteem?, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "The blue Lexus was approaching the High School. 'Quinn, I just want to know your mother and I realise it's not easy moving to a whole new town,' Jake Morgendorffer said."

  • The Snake, the Crossover and the Dog, by Blake C Stacey (BlakeStacey) (COMPLETE!): "'It's hard to imagine how Daria, of all people, could have gotten into trouble,' said Ramses Emerson as he stepped from the carriage into the remnants of a London fog."

  • Sporting Kevin, by Kristen Bealer (part 1): "Kevin leaned his cheek against his hand and tried to focus on paying attention in class. Mr. Shepard, his fifth grade teacher, was in the middle of a science lesson. Science was Kevin’s least favorite subject, but then all the other subjects were his least favorite as well."

  • Star Trek: Voyager: A Complication of Kes's, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "A temporal anomaly occurred aboard the starship. A version of Kes from over 5 years in the future appeared in Engineering."
