Pants...In...Space!

Kevin's ready to blast off on a galactic adventure on National Space Day, and I can't think of a more deserving candidate. Look, I'm not going to tell him if you won't.

I'm hoping he's fully dressed in that cannon, though, because today is also National No Pants Day and I really wouldn't put it past him. Someone tell Jake not to celebrate this holiday while singing songs in front of his bedroom window.

Holy Daria on a Bike!

Daria's got the right idea, not only because she's on a bike for Bike to School Day but also because she opted for pants instead of a skirt while riding that bike. I mean, you never know when Upchuck might be lurking, you know?

This is also Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday celebrated widely by Americans, many of whom don't know anything about the holiday aside from the drinking involved. You just know that Kevin's super into this one.

Fanfic Update!
  • Call Of The Mild (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Daria and Quinn watch as Jim's Camaro is being loaded onto the back of a wrecker." (Part 3)

  • The Creation of Beauty, by Crow Jones (part 4): "'So why did you want to see me after class Daria? Did you want to grab some Pizza again? Grab some books at the bookstore?' Lapis said."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 62): "Daniel was walking toward the school exit when Quinn joined him. 'I heard you were called in Ms. Li's office! What happened?' she asked worriedly."

  • madame aquarius at lawndale high, by madameaquarius (COMPLETE!): "(Jake is driving his daughters to school; Quinn is riding shotgun, Daria is in the back seat)"

  • The Past in the Present (Linn's short stories), by Linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "Trent and Jane woke up uncharacteristically early the next morning (before ten, anyway)." (Epilogue)

  • Young Americans, by Lady Evil (part 6): "Harriet tried to look dry eyed when she went up to Daria. 'Daria, I need to talk to you alone a moment.' She said, leading her away from the group."

Who Ya Gonna Call? Not Them!

The boys are ready to take on any malicious spirits that show up for National Paranormal Day, but I really don't think this is the ideal team. I mean, Mack is the only one even remotely competent. That said, I would read the heck out of this fanfic, wouldn't you?

Today is also the anniversary of Daria's minor cameo in the comic strip Luann in 1999. A cartoon in a cartoon? I don't think my brain can handle such a thing!

Trent Should Write Him a Jingle to Cheer Him Up!

Although I hate to ruin Happy Herb's happy mood, I should point out that while today is Herb Day, the herbs in question are of the planted variety, not the shady car salesman type. Sorry, Herb!

Today is also Free Comic Book Day, and I'm sure Kevin will be lining up to get his copy of Ratboy! I know we have a handful of comic book enthusiasts in our fandom, so enjoy!

Fanfic Update!
  • Call Of The Mild (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Quinn, Daria, Jim, Tommy and Teddy are seated in the audience. Timmy is notably absent. Quinn has a proud smile on her face."

  • The Cantons of Vivec ( General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Contiminus Merro, first Imperial to visit Vivec City and come back to write about it, described the place as '... a city of shrines and saints that lies within hollow mountains rising from the churning sea, built by the living god Vivec as a home for his followers.'"

  • Daria on the Trail (Daria Landing In Another Fanfiction: An Experiment), by Meester_Lee (part 4): "The Orricks laughed. 'You know, you’re the first Yankee we’ve met on the Trail who knows about such things. Yes, we will grant you Guest Right.'"

  • Flames, by atiyatortilla (part 4): "There was no greater feeling than breaking in a new pair of shoes and Tom was taking full advantage of the first official week of his summer break."

  • The Past in the Present (Linn's short stories), by Linnofthewoods (part 4): "Amanda, Trent, and Jane settled into a booth at Saffron, a favorite Indian restaurant of theirs. It smelled wonderfully fragrant in there, and the lighting was warm and comforting."

  • Sleeping With The Frenemy (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Jim's angry because Daria's new boyfriend, Rocco, is a longtime enemy of his. Not helping matters is the fact that Rocco's so manipulative as to actually have Daria thinking he's a great guy."

  • Young Americans, by Lady Evil (part 5): "'I’m telling you, sweetie.' Silvia said to Daria. 'You have got to try an authentic Sicilian pizza one of these days. A true sfincione has a fluffy crust and is covered in fresh tomato sauce and both toma and caciocavallo cheeses. When you have had a slice of sfincione, then you can say you’ve had pizza.'"

What Do You Mean by "International"?!

The Landons actually look kind of cute there, dancing cheek to cheek for International Dance Day. Of course, I'm sure Michele will find some way to take offense at my calling them "cute," so I'll just stop right there before I push too far. The rest of you can bust a move, or not, as you see fit.

Now Tell Us the One About Hansel and Gretel!

Daria and her friends (that's right, friends!) are enjoying Tell a Story Day, thanks to Daria's adult library card. Of course, once their parents hear about this it won't be quite as fun. Daria should probably stick to retelling fairy tales, either around a campfire or during baby-sitting jobs. Then again, that could get her in trouble, too. How about some nice poetry? By Allen Ginsberg?

Fanfic Update!
  • Flames, by atiyatortilla (part 3): "Despite the previous day’s rough start, Daria allowed herself to be dragged away from the house."

  • Sleeping With The Frenemy (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (parts 1 and 2): "As New York is a blue state most of the shooters on the range are people who handle firearms professionally." (Part 2)

  • Tommy's War (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Tony is leading the kids on a speed march."

  • Young Americans, by Lady Evil (part 4): "'Jamie doesn’t live too far from here.' Alfred said as he drove. 'I’ll pick him up and then Harriet. Lawndale Lanes is some ways off, so we’ll have plenty of time to talk and stuff.'"

A Hair-Raising Holiday

While Quinn is getting her hair done on National Hairstylist Appreciation Day, I very much doubt she's truly appreciating her stylist. Frankly, I'd be surprised if she appreciates anyone who does anything for her, at least during the early seasons.

Today is also World Penguin Day, and if you don't know why that's a significant holiday for this fandom then I'm sure as hell not going to explain it. (shudders)

Mack's busy concocting...something...for World Laboratory Day! Whatever it is, I don't think Kevin's going to like the results.

Today is also World Book Day, so take the opportunity to curl up with some nice reading material. Except Kevin, who not only doesn't read but will be too busy taste-testing Mack's latest creation.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria: Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (parts 27 and 28): "Despite her fear and worry about Dad, Rikka woke in a good mood. That was the first time she remembered dreaming about her mother in a long time, and it was not only good to see her again but also to know that while she might be dead, she was out there watching over her." (Part 28)

  • Fast Forward, by damnshawtysahottie (part 1): "His stubble brushed against my left cheek as the camera started rolling. We had over 1 million subscribers as we were a part of the latest new craze of cremation on ‘Pizza Hut’. But that’s beside the point."

  • Flames, by atiyatortilla (parts 1 and 2): "Thin beads of sweat rolled down her neck as Daria fumbled to open Jane’s front door. Even with her new key, the lock felt strange and complicated." (Part 2)

  • Is It Fall Yet? Part II, by WildDogJJ (part 2): "Daria, Jane, Quinn, Jim and the triplets were loading their luggage into the back of Santino's SUV."

  • The Lawndale File - Facebook Edition (Iron Chef: Facebook episodes), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Daria Morgendorffer Agents? At Lawndale High? Jane Lane Who are these 'different ones'?"

  • The Past in the Present, by Linnofthewoods (parts 2 and 3): "Daria tore out and crumpled another sheet of paper from her notebook. This skit just wasn't coming together no matter what she did." (Part 3)

  • Tommy's War (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (parts 1 and 2): "The whole family, including Daria, is seated at the kitchen table having breakfast." (Part 2)

  • Young Americans, by Lady Evil (parts 2 and 3): "OK, when do I ask her? Jamie thought as he walked to the cafeteria. Lunch? I don’t really want anyone seeing us together after the embarrassing way she asked me to the spring fling. Maybe I better just wait until after school." (Part 3)

Jake and Helen have certainly figured out how to celebrate National Hanging Out Day, but I wouldn't count on it lasting long. A ringing cell phone or a military school flashback is going to ruin it all any minute now.

Today is also National Garlic Day, which is great for spicing up that Kitchen Sink Stew or for keeping vampires away. Or both!

Fanfic Update!
  • Gone Sister Gone (General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Mom and dad were still arguing. Actually, it was more like dad was yelling and mom was just trying to keep him from doing something stupid."

  • Hey, Jealousy (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Jim sings along to the song on the radio, a classic from his high school years, as he drives." (Part 3)

  • Is It Fall Yet? Part Two, by WildDogJJ (part 1): "It was a summer day in Lower Manhattan. In the East Village at the corner of 8th Street and 3rd Avenue was a pizza parlor called Roy's Pizza and Bagels. Inside, Daria and Jane were conversing over pizza."

  • The Past in the Present (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by Linnofthewoods (prologue and part 1): "Back in Lawndale, no one had been in the Lane family household for nearly a month." (Part 1)

Today is also National High Five Day, so if you see artwork that doesn't suck then you should slap the palm of your hand against the palm of of the artist's hand. Because that's a thing we do to show appreciation for some reason.

Fanfic Update!
  • And So The American Experiment Begins, by Lady Evil (part 6): "'Well, the place looks nice.' Alfred said as he and Daria entered the gym decorated with pastel balloons and crepe paper."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (parts 43 and 44): "Daria remembered the next few days for a shopping trip to Diagon Alley and the Christmas parties." (Part 44)

  • Daria: Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (part 26): "They left for the hospice an hour after breakfast. • Hey, Jealousy (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "Jim is having a therapy session with Dr. Lisa Barone. Oddly, Dr. Barone is wearing only a lacy black bra and thong panties and her boobs seem bigger than normal."

  • The Sandi of Time (Iron Chef: Turning 40), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "Sandi was old enought to remember when the Zon was the grunge club that nobody popular went to and was busted by the health inspector on five seperate occasions one year."

I don't know what game the Morgendorffers are playing, but it's unlikely to be Scrabble for Scrabble Day. The board is all wonky! Of course, maybe the animators did it that way on purpose to avoid copyright issues?

Shine On, Harvest Quinn

The three Js are serenading Quinn for Barbershop Quartet Day, but I don't think it's going to work. Not only are they one singer short for a quartet, but Quinn is really more of a "Boyz R Guyz" kind of girl. Nice try, though, fellas!

They might consider getting her an adorable little animal friend for National Pet Day instead, but then again her experience at the pet store might have soured her on animals as well. They really can't win with that one, can they?

Fanfic Update!
  • Brittany - Party Time, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 4): "Daria watched Jamie leave. 'Quinn’s already causing trouble!' 'I’ll tell Andrea,' Donna responded."

  • A Comedy of Manors (General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Daria knew something was wrong when she woke up and realized that the blurry darkness in front of her eyes was not the same blurry darkness she usually woke up to."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 61): "So it all comes down to this. Daniel thought as he sat down in one of the two black chairs placed in front of Ms. Li's desk."

  • Fifteenth Doctor Adventures, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "It was a dreary day. It had been pouring rain since there was enough light to see by that morning."

  • Lie Fishing (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "We see two identical steel bridges crossing the canal at opposite ends. They are the Bourne Bridge and the Sagamore Bridge. Cut to just west of the Bourne Bridge and we see a railroad bridge across the canal that looks like London's Tower Bridge." (Part 2) (Part 3)

I think Jesse has taken National Beer Day much too far, but I guess he doesn't seem upset about it. I suspect Kevin's going to be celebrating this one, either by smashing cans on his head or singing all the way down from ninety-nine. Anyone else doubtful that he can count to ninety-nine at all, let alone backwards?

Today is also the anniversary for the episodes "This Year's Model" in 1997 and "I Loathe a Parade" in 2000. The Fashion Club got plenty of chances to pose in both, and Daria managed to torpedo their efforts both times. Everyone got to use their strengths!

Fanfic Update!
  • And So The American Experiment Begins, by Lady Evil (part 5): "Helen went upstairs to get her daughters. 'Girls, both of the boys are here. Oh, Quinn, you look lovely! That hairdo is so cute!'"

  • Common Ground (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by Linnofthewoods (part 3): "'I can't believe I'm doing this,' Daria spoke to Godzilla as she brushed her hair. 'I'm going into a movie theater full of little kids just so I can watch something I love way too much from my childhood.'"

  • The Creation of Beauty, by Crow Jones (part 3): "Quinn looked in the mirror at the damage her sister did yesterday. Her cheek had completely healed from the initial slap that she had landed, that was good."

  • Daria and Jane Discuss... Why the Morgendorffers Don't Celebrate Easter (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "JANE: 'Hey Daria.' DARIA: 'What Jane?' JANE: 'You know that Easter is tomorrow and I was wondering...'"

  • Daria on the Trail (Daria Landing In Another Fanfiction: An Experiment), by Meester_Lee (part 3): "Oh, boy, she thought. I’m definitely back in the Wild West era."

Today is also Find a Rainbow Day, and if you can't find one, just ask Kevin. Apparently he's good at both creating rainbows and knocking down doors.

Fanfic Update!
  • And So The American Experiment Begins, by Lady Evil (part 4): "'Do you seriously call this a maze?' Ms. Barch asked as Brittany put a slice of American cheese on a maze on the back of a box of Cocoa Puffs."

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 11): "The Doctor and Felicia entered a large underground chamber from the staircase they had just descended. 'He must’ve extended a natural cave,' Felicia said."

Jake's all ready to paint a masterpiece in honor of Vincent van Gogh's birth on this day in 1853, but I think cutting off his ear was a step too far. If nothing else, how will he hear Daria's critique of his artwork?

Then again, Daria might be too busy re-reading Black Beauty to celebrate the anniversary of Anna Sewell's birth on this day in 1820. We know it's one of her childhood favorites, but it may also come with memories of her parents arguing. So maybe she'd better pick something else.

Fanfic Update!
  • Analyze Jim (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Jim was back for another therapy session. He sat in the patient's chair hanging his head in shame over this. He was ashamed of the fact that he even needed help in the first place." (Part 3)

  • And So The American Experiment Begins, by Lady Evil (parts 2 and 3): "In the Morgendorffer garage, Quinn watched from the doorway as Alfred sanded and blew on a piece of wood. She tried not to faint with ecstasy at the sight." (Part 3)

  • Common Ground (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by Linnofthewoods (part 2): "The following late afternoon, Daria emerged from the subway car holding her breath with a disgusted expression; she'd been stuck sitting next to a man who smelled so bad that she wondered if his stench could peel paint off of walls."

  • Daria on the Trail (Daria Landing In Another Fanfiction: An Experiment), by Meester_Lee (part 2): "Despite Daria’s suspicions and the temptation to give in to panic, she knew that observation and keeping a clear head were the keys to survival."

  • Tommy The Terrible (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (parts 1 and 2): "Both Quinn and Jim are dressed in their Sunday best on account of it being Sunday morning. Tommy, Timmy and Teddy are wearing suits and ties. None of the kids are thrilled to dress like this." (Part 2)

  • Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (part 28): "Breeze hit the REWIND and PLAY buttons to listen to her daughter’s message again."

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Lucky Strike" in 2001. Not only did that episode give us a rare DeMartino Triumphant moment, but he also got a lot of good lines. I mean, "This is Goodwill polyester I've been sweating in all night. I want to picket naked!"? Hilarious.

Fanfic Update!
  • America the Beautiful, by Lady Evil (part 4): "In the school auditorium, Ms. Li stood on stage at the podium during a school assembly."

  • Analyze Jim (The Carbones), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "The Carbone family (Quinn, Jim, Tommy, Timmy and Teddy) , plus Daria, are sitting down at the kitchen table having dinner. Tommy was telling an animated story about his day."

Today is also an anniversary for both episodes "Cafe Disaffecto" in 1997 and "The Lost Girls" in 1999. Both episodes involve Mr. O'Neill forcing Daria to do something she really doesn't want to do, which ultimately leads to Daria instigating chaos. He never actually learns, does he?

I have routed the docking release to the blue button over there. If we have to use it, I have set up a command block so that once activated it cannot be recalled.'"

  • Day Tripped (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by Linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "'Jess, I already told you, your bike is *fine*,' Trent said to his very worried friend over the phone."

  • New Americana, by Lady Evil (parts 2 and 3): "At the Mall of the Millennium, Mrs. Bennett was trying to read a map while addressing the class. It was not easy for her to be heard over the kids screaming as cars from the indoor rollercoaster speed past them." (Part 3)

  • When Daria and Jane Find Lawndale High Students that Stopped Being Polite, and Started Getting Real (Behind People's Backs) (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "Normally Daria and Jane ignored the gossip, hearsay, and vicious tittle-tattle that flowed like verbal diarrhea at Lawndale High. But these were not normal times."

Plant a Campy Flower!

The ghost of Tommy Sherman is participating in Plant a Flower Day; why aren't you? I mean, just because there's still snow on the ground (at least where I am) is no excuse!

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Camp Fear," which aired on this day in 2001. Feel free to celebrate by playing a game of Catch the Greased Watermelon or eating some cheese-and-cellophane sandwiches!

Jodie, Do You Even Have Time to Stalk the Night and Drain the Innocent of Blood?

If there are any would-be slayers who want to celebrate the anniversary of the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Jodie's a pretty easy target right now. The show premiered on this day in 1997, and not only was Quinn a fan, but it was one of the rare real-world pop culture references on the show.

Not to be outdone, Daria has three episode anniversaries today: "The Invitation" in 1997, "Depth Takes a Holiday" in 1999, and "A Tree Grows in Lawndale" in 2000. Teenagers going to parties and supernatural elements? Why, it's practically a Buffy crossover!

Fanfic Update!
  • Before the Battle of Jazshi's World (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "It still struck her as funny that in pretty much all of human Sci-Fi fiction that humanity saw itself as 'average' and most alien species were portrayed as either being smarter, stronger, more dangerous fighters and warriors."

  • Day Tripped (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by Linnofthewoods (parts 1 and 2): "'...Oh, yeah, everything's great mom.' Rose was on the phone with her mother, Veronika, as she petted her kitten, Trixie." (Part 2)

  • New Americana, by Lady Evil (part 1): "'Seventy-eight bottles of beer on the wall, seventy eight bottles of beer!' Kevin sang as the bus drove to the Mall of the Millennium. 'If one of those bottles should happen to fall, seventy-seven bottles of...'"

  • Straight from the Art (General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Jane blew on her cold-numbed hands and wished she didn’t live so far north."

"No, YOU'RE the Most International!"

Helen and Linda are wishing each other a happy International Women's Day, and I'm sure they're not being passive-aggressive or insulting at all. While they compliment each other through gritted teeth, be sure to wish any women in your life a happy day!

He's Not Exactly the Tooth Fairy

Looks like Mr. O'Neill is changing careers just in time for Dentist's Day, and in some ways it's a good switch. I mean, who needs novocaine when your voice alone can put patients to sleep?

Today is also National Frozen Food Day, so you can follow the Morgendorffers' example by eating a dinner of frozen lasagna! Er, please feel free to heat it up first, though.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Pie, by Lady Evil (parts 2 and 3): "Daria, Jane and Alfred walked down the street with their boxes of fundraising chocolate. Daria told them about the last time she had to sell chocolate for a school fundraiser." (part 3)

  • A Whale of a Time (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "Mystik Spiral had spent several days camping at Venice Beach. They were flat broke and getting more than a little tired of sharing a single tent."

Nothing.

So I checked all the way in the back of the Daria Blog Fridge and couldn't find anything in particular to post about today. No relevant celebrity birthdays, no fandom-related random holidays, no episode anniversaries, not anything. So I guess this is just a post to celebrate "the idea that the negative, which is the nothingness of being and the annihilating power both together, is nothingness." Or you can chime in with comments if there's something going on today that you think is worthy of mention here.

Time to Go Through Your Unused Junk!

Jake and Helen are having a little stroll down Memory Lane for Old Stuff Day! They'd better be careful, because from there it's a very easy detour onto Massive Argument Boulevard.

Hey, speaking of arguments, today is also the anniversary of the episode "Quinn the Brain" on this day in 1998. Fandom has debated over whether Daria changing into Quinn's outfit means she's secretly super hot for so long that I'm surprised the debate hasn't shifted to whether that dead horse smeared on the ground is super hot.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Pie, by Lady Evil (part 1): "Alfred read the note that had been slipped in his locker."

  • Garden Variety (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "It was a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, and one of the days Rose had devoted to volunteering at the Landon Community Garden. She was particularly excited this time because Trent and his sister Jane were meeting her there."

  • Party in the USA, by Lady Evil (part 3): "Quinn crouched behind the ceramic tiger and came up with a plan. It was a simple one. All she had to do was untie one of her rose dawn suede Vans, pretend to trip over a lace and let Alfred catch her."

  • Perfection, by Tentaculiferous (COMPLETE!): "Quinn was so perfect. Stacy was staring at her bouncy sleek red hair hanging over the desk in front of her, tuning out Mr. DeMartino’s rants in favor of a more pleasing subject: Quinn."

  • The Wedding Wringer (General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "'Hey, are you hungry? Huh?' Not that Satheri needed to ask. Tollie always wanted a snack."

Awww, They're So Cynical When They're Sleeping!

Daria and Jane are all over Public Sleeping Day, although they have a long way to go to catch up with Trent's record. If you decide to sleep in public, just make sure you check your face for embarrassing markings when you wake up.

Also, happy birthday to actor Geoffrey Arend, who provided the voice for Upchuck. Although Daria was among his first acting jobs, he's gone on to a pretty good career since then!

Daria Never Has This Problem With Her Boots

Daria is taking Tell a Fairy Tale Day a step further by acting it out in full. I think I prefer her modern takes on fairy tales, though, and so do the Gupty kids.

Today is also one of Quinn's least favorite holidays, National Pistachio Day, but only because she's allergic to pistachio dye. Seems like Daria could use that weakness to her advantage, kind of like Lex Luthor keeping Superman at bay with kryptonite.

Finally, it was on this day in 2001 that the episode "Sappy Anniversary" first aired. There weren't any pistachios and it didn't have a fairy tale ending, but it was kind of sweet in its own way. Even Jake's melty hobbit candle.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Idiot, by Lady Evil (COMPLETE!): "'Quit following me, Daria!' Quinn whined as they walked back from school."

  • Big Mer on Campus (General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Students came in and out of Drenlyn Academy all the time."

  • Danny Morgendorffer, by ST91 (part 60): "Sunday flew by. Before Daniel knew it, he and his sister were walking to school."

  • Daria: Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (part 25): "Daria stared at her computer screen, searching for words and thinking that anything she came up with was either flat or insipid."

  • Leaving Lawndale, by Ravynstone (COMPLETE!): "It was snowing the day they buried Jake Morgendorffer."

  • New Faces, by linnofthewoods (part 2): "Daria headed home after Trent's performance; she was no night owl, and wasn't fond of dancing, either."

  • Party in the USA, by Lady Evil (parts 1 and 2): "'Do you have to follow me to school as well?' Quinn groaned." (Part 2)

  • Why Daria should never be allowed to make Children's Programing (Re: Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'Who the fuck let YOU make a children's show for PBS?' Sandi asked Daria as the TV was turned on."

Care for a Feisty Beer?

Upchuck is taking the opportunity of World Bartender Day to offer everyone a few cold ones. Of course, there is no amount of beer goggles that would make Upchuck attractive, so I fear he's wasting his time.

Speaking of eyewear, today is also the anniversary of the episode "Through a Lens Darkly" on this day in 1999. Turns out the world is just as lame viewed through contact lenses as it is through glasses. Sorry, Daria!

Could Someone Please Reboot Brittany?

Brittany's trying to celebrate World Thinking Day, but I think it was a little too much for her. She should have started out smaller. Maybe National Thinking Day? Statewide Thinking Day? Area the Size of a Shoebox Thinking Day?

Today is also Walking the Dog Day, but please be careful not to walk any dogs while Daria's having a driving lesson.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Idiot, by Lady Evil (part 7): "After school the next day, Daria, Jane and Alfred were watching TV in Jane’s room. 'And now, back to Sick, Sad World.' said the announcer."

  • Birds of a Feather (Random Pairing Challenge 2021), by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "Jodie lay back on her bed and listened to her favorite song. Of course, whatever Travis chose to sing was always her favorite song, and today was no exception."

  • Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "The Doctor thought about what Quinn had asked. He ran the sonic over the Zero Point Energy device and the table device it was powering. 'Hmm.'"

  • Daria and the Bimbo Ray, by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "'You’ll never get away with this, you bastard!' Daria shouted, struggling against the bonds on the metal chair."

  • Daria's Great Adventure, by dmsfanman (part 37): "Daria checked Tom's connections on his spacesuit. These were the new lighter weight models, since no extra vehicular activity (EVA) was scheduled on the flight back to Earth."

  • The Day the Spiral Died (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "It was another Saturday night, and that meant Trent Lane was going to perform with his band, The Mystikal Explosion, at Ruttheimer's."

  • New Faces (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (part 1): "Rose's first week performing at Ruttheimer's passed by very quickly, but she was expecting it to."

  • Papa Trent (Life Goes On), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "At a place called Kara's Wild Family Fun Center there was a party going on. Inside the main building there was a banquet hall directly adjacent to the arcade." (Part 2) (Part 3)

Who's a Good Boy? Who's a Good Boy?

Leary is looking especially lovable for Love Your Pet Day, although I'm sure the Yeagers are too busy taking on Rainbow Hammocks to give him their full attention. If you have a pet, give them some extra love today!

Also, send a little love to Daria voice actor Amy Bennett, who turns 46 today! Bennett was the voice of characters Mrs. Johansen and (of course!) Mrs. Bennett.

Don't Look Now, but Kafka's Feeling Jealous!

Daria's all dolled up in her finest in honor of the anniversary of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which was published in the United States on this day in 1885. I absolutely get why Daria would be a Twain fan--they have the same dry sense of humor--but her strong opinions on Huckleberry Hound came as a bit of a surprise.

Also on this day in 2000, we got to see "Behind the Scenes with Daria" and, if you didn't, then I guess you're out of luck because there appear to be no clips, transcripts, or anything like that. Can anyone point me to anything more substantial than the occasional online reference?

Fanfic Update!
  • American Idiot, by Lady Evil (parts 5 and 6): "At Daria's house, the family was eating dinner while raptly listing to Quinn prattle on about how wonderful her day was, Well, the parents were, anyway." (Part 6)

  • Blocked (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "Trent and Rose Lane had spent a wonderful month as newlyweds. They were continuing to happily settle into their new life and new routines."

  • Cat in the Cradle (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (COMPLETE!): "It was 11:30 AM. Many of New York City's denizens had been hustling since before dawn, but not Trent Lane."

  • Daria: Winter Is Coming, by Meester_Lee (part 24): "The nurses at the hospital’s Emergency Room finally got around to checking Ben back in as a patient over an hour and a half after he’d been taken there by ambulance."

  • I STAY, by O-L-D-D (part 4): "‘Okay this is not good; this is not good at all. Why did you even come here -you don’t know any of these people, not really! You think you’re smarter than them but you’re not, dammit! What does that even mean? Being smart doesn’t mean shit and you’re an idiot for thinking so!’"

  • Job Dissatisfaction (Life Goes On), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "On 50th street directly across from Radio City Music Hall is a building with a familiar rainbow colored peacock logo on the front. The network is called CBN, the Corporate Broadcasting Network (for copyright reasons, and to avoid a defamation suit)." (Part 2)

  • Mack and Joey: How They Met, Dated, Married, and Wound Up Working In a Certain Industry... (Random Pairing Challenge 2021), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "When our fans first found out that we both went to the same high school, the question that was asked was if we had dated back then."

  • Mi Amiga (Creative Writing - My class submissions), by neonhomer (part 2): "I can’t believe I spent an hour on the phone talking to someone, much less a girl! The conversation started off really awkward. I think she was as nervous as I was."

  • Opportunity Rings (Linn's short stories (or ficlets, drabbles...)), by linnofthewoods (parts 1 - 3): "Phew! Rose thought as she was finally able to relax for the evening after cooking dinner for her parents, followed by cleaning the whole kitchen." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: The Closing Walls of Schloss Morgendorffer and Casa Lane), by Lord Goring (COMPLETE!): "'Hey Jane' 'Bonsour. To what do I owe the please of your phone call, m'amie?'"

  • Wizards Off the Coast (General "Daria in Morrowind" Thread), by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "They called Sadrith Mora a city, but it looked more like a fungal nightmare that had erupted and grown until it covered half of the rocky island it called home."

Daria, Do NOT Try For Any Beads!

Daria, Tad, and Tom don't seem particularly interested in the parade, but that's just because it's nothing compared to the usual celebrations you'd see today for Mardi Gras. Of course, these aren't usual times, so maybe a scaled-down version is better anyway.

Today is also the anniversary of the episode "Arts 'N Crass," which aired on this day in 1998. It was the first episode of the second season, and followed the Daria Day marathon, which gave us all kinds of fun behind-the-scenes insights. For example, the Morgendorffers don't eat lasagna; they eat concentrated protein and starch nutrition squares. And now you know!

Hearts and Wheels

Cupid hopes everyone is having a super-romantic Valentine's Day, but reminds you that if you aren't, there's always the Love Taser! (My advice: don't accept his offer.) Daria has already shared her thoughts on this particular holiday.

Today is also Ferris Wheel Day, so why not surprise your sweetie with a ride that goes around in circles? Try not to share a car with Stacy, though. That's a real romance-killer.

Fanfic Update!
  • American Idiot, by Lady Evil (parts 3 and 4): "Alfred’s favorite fast food hamburger was actually Whataburger, but those were hard to come by this far north." (Part 4)

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Year of the Owl, by Meester_Lee (part 42): "Daria put the coins in the slot and then dialed the operator. She looked around to see if there were any Muggles close enough to overhear her reading the numbers off her credit card."

  • Doctor Who - Changes in Time and Space, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 10): "Kiara saw Felicia enter the elevator, after the culprit had used another. Unfortunately there were only two elevator doors on that floor."

Four Score and Many More Years Ago....

President's Day is celebrating half of itself because today is Abraham Lincoln's Birthday! That's gotta be a little weird, honestly. Does one of the presidents get jealous on the other's birthday? Do they even distinguish between the two anymore? So many questions.

Today is also the anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth in 1809. Darwin, who revolutionized the scientific world with his research and theories on evolution, would be stunned by the lack of development of some of Daria's classmates.
