A Birthday Three-fer!

Happy birthday to a trio of famous people! Winston Churchill, who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II, was born on this day in 1874. Jake's impression of the man isn't bad, but I'm sure things would have turned out differently for the UK if Jake had been in charge. Rest assured, though, it all would have been Mad Dog's fault.

Mark Twain, also known as Samuel Clemens, was also born on this day in 1835. Daria was a fan of the author, judging by her sleep shirt in "Lane Miserables," but Trent seemed somewhat less enthusiastic about him.

Finally, satirist Jonathan Swift was born on this day in 1667. I don't believe Swift was ever mentioned in canon, but there is that alter ego of Daria as the title character from Swift's Gulliver's Travels. I'd be willing to bet that Daria's a fan of his witty and acerbic writing style, though.

Fanfic Update!
  • The Beginning of our Story, by ST91 (COMPLETE!): "After dinner Darius took Jane back at her home. When they reached the doorway Jane said, 'Today was a wonderful day thanks' 'Was the same for me. Tomorrow I will pick you up and go to school together ok ?' 'Ok.' Jane said first to embrace Darius and give him a passionate kiss."

  • Crossing Stars, by Silver: "Mac tapped his console again. 'Well, that's one Raven off our back. Five to go.' 'One of you remind me,' Daria said suddenly, 'To look into weapons upgrades when we get done with this job?' There were three replies that they would, indeed, not let her forget."

  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (part 9): "Lynn was laying face down on Daria’s bed when Jane and Daria walked in. They stopped short of walking in, and stood in the doorway. Quiet sobs could be heard coming from Lynn. 'Maybe I should go talk to her...' said Daria. 'Good idea.' Said Jane, starting to walk into the room, but Daria grabbed her by the arm before she could get too far. 'Alone.' Said Daria. "

  • Die Hard Quinn (Iron Chef - In the movies), by Reven384 (COMPLETE!): "Quinn dragged her aching body through the air vent hoping to avoid the terrorists that took over the building Daria worked at."

  • The Lady and the Tiger, by RLobinske (part 3): "'Hi, Hobbes,' she said to the stuffed animal on the sofa arm as she sat down. After taking a long drink, Daria closed her eyes and leaned back to rest. 'I've had a long day myself.' Without thinking, she placed one hand on the tiger as she drifted off. Sometime later, Daria became aware of purring. I didn't know Calvin had a cat she thought. She opened her eyes and saw her hand resting on a miniature tiger."

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (part 9): "'Then you must not ever hear yourself talk,' Kevin said. He felt really warm, even to the point of sweating. 'When was the last time you ever did anything that worked out right?' 'Well, at one time I did a pretty good job of raising a successful football player,' Doug yelled, slamming his fist on the counter, 'but that ended up going straight to hell!' Something inside Kevin broke. 'You can go straight to hell, Dad!'"

  • Three Signals, by Arena del Sur (COMPLETE!): "It was 2 am, I offered her some coffee. Jane accepted so we went downstairs to the kitchen. And then, while we drank coffee, she started to ask questions. –Have you ever felt trapped in a maze?"

  • Tigresses of Lawndale, by taishigi (parts 3 - 5): "Daria looked unsure, so Quinn came over and said, 'I believe in you, too. It's your job to become a great script writer or whatever, so you can write stuff for me to star in.' Daria looked at Quinn, not believing even her sister could say such a thing. Then Quinn winked at her and stated, 'It is your destiny to write for me, young Morgendorffer.'" (Part 4) (Part 5)

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Guilty Pleasures Redux), by RX-87 (COMPLETE!): "'Alright,' Daria said, conspiratorially as she helped Tad button up his shirt and wiped the creamy whiteness from her lips, 'Now remember not to tell your parents about this. It's our secret.'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef - In the movies), by Greystar (COMPLETE!): "Sandi: Like Stay-seee, are you, stoned or stupid? You don't hack a bank across state lines from your house, you'll get nailed by the FBI. Where are your brains, in your ass, or something? Don't you know anything?"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef - In the movies), by SgtTrentLAne50 (COMPLETE!): "'Seriously, guys. What am I supposed to do?' Jane though a moment, then said, 'Kill your sister. You'll feel better.'"

"I need some chocolate. Unauthorized chocolate!"

It's National Chocolates Day! Daria and Tom are celebrating courtesy of Quinn's admirers, and you can bet I'll do my part, as well! Might not want to tell Mrs. Johanssen about it, though. Her doctor would not approve.

The Jodie Landon Experience

Jimi Hendrix was born on this day in 1942. Jodie's alter ego of the late, great musician would probably give her parents at least one heart attack each, but doesn't she seem to be enjoying herself?

Daria canon gives us this anecdote about Hendrix, courtesy of Stan from "Speedtrapped":

Stan: Perhaps you fellows have heard of Jimi Hendrix.

Nick: You knew Hendrix?

Stan: You know how he played solos with his teeth?

Trent: You taught him that?

Stan: No, but one time when he broke a string, I drove him to the dentist.

I'm sure Stan was pulling that stuff out of thin air--when even Trent thinks you're full of it, you know you're a bad liar--but if he was going to make stuff up it seems like he could have come up with a more exciting story than that!

Hmm. I wonder if Stan ever met Joanna from "The Daria Hunter."

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (parts 7 and 8): "Trent held the door open for Daria, and she followed Jane in, with Trent following Daria. Jane took two steps in, looked around, and something caught her eye. 'Oh no.' said Jane half aloud. Since Jane stopped short, Daria bumped into her, and then Trent bumped into Daria. 'What’s the...' Daria started, then she saw her. 'Damn.”' She said to herself. 'Janey?' said Trent, then he saw her. 'Whoa.... *two* Darias?'" (Part 8)

  • DW: The Many Doctors (Chapter 4) (Non-Daria), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "'This is strange,' Sabrina said. 'What is?' Sigrun asked after Daniel had left the room in a huff. She knew that she would win the arguement. 'The TARDIS is going beserk, usually the course changes are slight, but it is going all over the Milky Way!' Sabrina exclaimed. 'I suppose that there must be a reason?' Sigrun pondered. 'There has to be! The TARDIS can’t be doing it just for fun!'"

  • Getting It On (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "She'd thought she'd known this place. She still knew Charlie; him taking a class hostage wasn't that strange, not after Carlson. But the class weren't hostages, that was the strange and terrifying part. They were revelling in this."

  • I Burn For You (LLH 14.2), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "'Thanks for the tour of your city,' he said, raising his own glass. 'Sorry it didn’t end the way you would have liked – in your room at the sorority house, or at my hotel.' Several onlookers gasped – and a few that were already filming with cell-phone cameras smiled in triumph - as Anne threw her soda directly in Tom’s face. 'Consider that a disguise,' she said, setting her glass down and taking three ribs more for her trouble. 'Now, people will think you’re just a messy eater, instead of an asshole – or a coward.'" (Part 2)

  • It's A Holiday's Night, by peapotmaster (part 1): "'What kind of job you got me this time? 'The mall is looking for someone to be an elf in the Santa House this year, and,' Helen spoke, but was interrupted. 'Not again,' replied Daria."

  • Rude Awakening X-Tra: It's not war, It's Black Friday!, by DIsaac (COMPLETE!): "SANDI: Now company! The hour of our glory is near. In two hours the first store for Black Friday shopping will open. I have brought you here for your talents that will be need to win this day. All of the planing and studying will come down to a few brief second when you get that one product you want. Daria, Question?"

  • Tigresses of Lawndale (reposted), by taishigi (parts 1 and 2): "Vitale raised his hand to stop questions. 'Eric was seriously injured; at this time it is not clear how badly but it is not good for him no matter what. He will certainly never walk again; it is possible he will never even wake up.' Helen's hand flew to her face. 'His father is taking it hard. This, after two heart attacks . . . well, he decided he needed to take it easy. We are now again merely Vitale, Horowitz, Riordan and Schrecter albeit with a different Schrecter. Would you feel capable of taking over Eric's total case load, along with his associates and juniors? We feel you would be. The other partners would be taking over the rest of the work.'" (Part 2)

  • Tigresses of Summer (reposted), by taishigi (COMPLETE!): "'Oh, come on,' Jane pleaded, in the tone of voice that always worked on Trent, but which was usually far less effective on Daria. 'Instead of our normal drive-in attire, you want us to wear our moccasins or running shoes and cut-offs.' 'Yes.' 'And a halter top, which means no bra.' 'Yes!' 'Don't you think that would encourage the guys to explore, perhaps under the halter tops?' 'YES!'" (Part 6)

Here's Looking at You, Misery Chick!

Daria and Trent's alter ego today is an homage to the film Casablanca, which premiered on this day in 1942. The film also got a brief reference in "Quinn the Brain," when Brittany accuses Kevin of being a "high school Casablanca!" I'm pretty sure she meant "casanova," but a ref is still a time goes by.

Also, happy birthday to the late Charles M. Schulz, who was born on this day in 1922. Schulz was the cartoonist who created the popular comic strip Peanuts, which inspired this little exchange from "Jake of Hearts":

Daria: Good grief.

Jane: It's lame deejays, Charlie Brown!

Gobble, Gobble!

Happy Thanksgiving! Unless you live in a country where it isn't Thanksgiving, of course. The rest of us can stuff our faces until we fall asleep, aside from Quinn there, who (I'm guessing) pissed Daria off once too often.

Charles RB reminds me that Daria made a brief appearance in a Thanksgiving issue of the Beavis and Butt-head comic in 1994, in which she teaches the two the real meaning of Thanksgiving.

Okay, not really. But here's a list of Thanksgiving-related Daria fanfic that, even if it's not particularly meaningful, should be fairly entertaining. Enjoy!

Just in Time for a Nutty Anniversary!

Happy anniversary to the Daria Fandom Blog II! On this day four years ago, The Angst Guy posted the first entry on this very blog. Thanks, TAG! I've posted a penguin just for you. (I thought about going with the penguin from "I Loathe a Parade," but even I'm not that cruel.)

Today is also National Cashew Day! Jake Morgendorffer invites everyone to join him in celebrating, and reminds us that, "Now cashews, those are what the big guys eat...the CEOs!"

Last, but not least, today is the 48th anniversary of the first episode of Doctor Who. All the Who fans in Daria fandom should check out Yui Daoren's Doctor Who Gives A Damn, Galen "Lawndale Stalker" Hardesty's The House on Space-Time Lane, and Ranger Thorne's Lane Change series if they haven't already!

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (part 6): "'I had this odd dream. Daria had a twin sister and she was here.' Quinn said as she poured herself a bowl of cereal. 'Quinn honey, it wasn’t a dream.' Said Helen. 'Gahhh!' said Quinn, who stopped pouring her cereal. 'What?'"

  • Legion of Lawndale Heroes: Volume Three (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (parts 1 and 2): "The boy looked at Anne, looked his car over, and turned back to her. 'You’re a behavioral sciences major.' Anne flashed her smile once more. 'Film and television production – I’m a scriptwriter. I love police procedurals. I’m Anne.' She extended her hand, and the boy shook it. 'Tom. Tom Sloane.' 'Well, "Tom, Tom Sloane from out East" – you could show off your car to a poor little Midwest girl who’s taken a moment away from her books.'" (Part 2)

  • A New Set of Rules, by Dennis (part 22): "Finally, after what seemed like forever, the waiter brought the check. Watching Kevin struggle against all reason to thank 'mon-sewer,' Daria had a sudden insight. Once they were back in the car, she shared it with Kevin. 'So,' she said. 'Did you enjoy dinner?' 'Uh, yeah,' he said. 'It was, you know, I mean—' 'It was lousy.'"

  • No One Is To Blame (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (parts 3 and 4): "A male voice, filled with mirth, spoke up. 'Not the smartest boy in the world.' 'Wrong again,' a female voice replied. “The problem is he’s too smart. He’s thinking instead of just jumping in... and she’s just letting him play out on the line before she takes control, and reels him in. I’ve seen it so many times before...'" (Part 4)

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (part 8): "'Man,' Link said, sounding angry but not at Kevin, 'if it was my dad, I'd tell him where to go!' 'Yeah?' Kevin asked, not sure how to respond. 'Yeah!' Link's face was more animated than Kevin had ever seen him before. 'You know what you should do? You should go up to the jerk and tell him he's the one who's a loser!'"

  • Save the Last Trance for Me, by jtranser: "'For instance, one of my distant predecessors liked to throw out complicated riddles, filled with rewards and/or punishments, depending on the answers given.' 'Sort of like the Lady and the Tiger, right?' 'Actually, the Lady is sitting in the stands and there's a tiger behind each door.' 'So, the actual goal is to find the exit, right? Sounds more like Reality to me.' 'Doesn't it though?'"

  • Tigresses of Summer (reposted), by taishigi (parts 2 - 4): "'I'll be returning in ten weeks; it's not college yet,' Daria pointed out. 'Anyway, you used to send us away to that grisly Camp Grizzly.' 'I know, but to be honest, that was just to have a break. This, this is the first taste of the future . . . my little girl is almost grown and gone,' Jake admitted sadly. 'Dad, come on, Quinn's your little girl.' Jake shook his head. 'No, she's our princess; all girl, bouncy and cute and all that. But you, you're my little girl.'" (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Ranger Thorne (COMPLETE!): "Much to Jane’s surprise, Daria was standing at the end of the sidewalk waiting for her. At least, that’s what Jane thought she was doing. But instead of looking toward Jane or her house, Daria was staring into the distance. 'So,' Jane asked, 'what’s new?' When music started playing Jane took a moment to look around. So she was a little surprised a moment later when Daria started to sing."

Sorry, O'Neill, but Inner Children Don't Count.

Happy Universal Children's Day! Daria won't be celebrating, considering her stance of "I don't like kids. I didn't even like kids when I was a kid." Still, that's a couple of seriously cute children over there.

Also on this day, Daria appeared in the Beavis and Butt-head episode "U. S. History" in 1995. In it, we find that Daria is apparently a fan of conspiracy theories. Perhaps something she picked up from Sick, Sad World?

Fanfic Update!
  • The Author as a Lesbian, Season 3, by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "Daria smiled at Jen, then noticed that Jane was looking off to her left. 'Hey. Hey!' she said, bumping her girlfriend. 'I'm sorry, hon. It's just that guy was staring at me.' 'And I can see how that pains you. Let's go to the bathroom and give him someone else to obsess about.' Jane sighed. 'Okay.' Once they came back, Daria nudged Jane. 'Looks like he did.'"

  • Bits of a Star Gone Wrong (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by SoCalledGoodeGuy: "When it hit, it was all sound and fury. ISA OV-234 Temeraire skewed madly, alarms shrieking and metal rending. For it’s unfortunate occupants, the weightless environment became a blizzard of loose objects and food packets as storage containers and the galley burst open under the punishment. Red emergency lights snapped on, painting the scene in crimson, dyeing the drops of blood in the air to ink."

  • Competition Kitten Cannon! (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "This is what’s so nice about Ostrich Day, Yaniv thought, unaware of his friend's passing distress. We get to invite people in to play, and don’t have to hide anything – not that many people are allowed on the grounds who don’t know, but still..."

  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (part 5): "'Lynn? Is that you?' came the voice from somewhere in the house. 'No. It’s the tooth fairy.' Said Lynn. She paused for a second, then continued 'Yeah, it’s me.' 'Where did you wander off too?' 'I went to see an, uh, err, friend, I met online.' Said Lynn. Well, she wasn’t entirely lying."

  • Daria Morgendorffer, College Girl, by Boring Bricks (part 1): "Submerged, Daria watched the bubbles escape from her nose and float up to the surface. It had been a very busy week, having just done her English Lit exam. To her surprise, she actually found it quite challenging. Once she had done, Daria had herself puzzled, wondering, I really haven't got my A game on lately. Then she retreated back to her dorm room and went into her tub, a ritual that she'd been performing for almost a month now. Her baths have become the only time she was able to escape the busy college life, the exams and the notes, the only time she could able to hear herself think." (Part 2)

  • God Save The Esteem ep37: CSI Don't Care, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "'I was just wondering... umm... The person who hit you-' 'Oh wait, sorry Cin,' he said apologetically. 'If I tell the feds or anything, that’d be snitching. And that’s not cool!' 'I’m not a cop though.' 'Oh yeah. I guess it’s okay then! It was...'"

  • Hot Air Balloon Saga (SFMB), by Gum Wars: "It had been yeas since DARIA had ruined her parents with her hot air balloon plan. She had convinced her father that buying the baloon was a good idea, knowing he would run it into the ground and ruin them all."

  • The Lady and the Tiger, by RLobinske (part 2): "'So it's an "us" now,' Jane teased. Daria turned to face Jane. 'You're the one who desperately needs to get laid. How well did ten o'clock, move-in day go?' 'We don't talk about that.'"

  • A Matter of Retrieval (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "The lights in the room began to flicker and dim; to a man, the assembled group went silent – not out of fear, but in the calculating manner of a pack of wolves, coming to realize that other predators might be near, hungry for their prize, and determined to take it for themselves... 'Code Rival,' intoned the last speaker – an average-looking, bespectacled American. 'We need to move.'"

  • No One Is To Blame (My Annual Thanksgiving Fanfic Release - 2011!), by Brother Grimace (parts 1 and 2): "'Is there still a problem here?' Both young men turned to face Daria – her sudden re-appearance sending a slight murmur through the onlookers. Daria approached the two, her arms folded. 'I heard your discussion,' she said, stepping close to the two of them and giving both a stern look – a look that Tom shrank from, and which David Allen noticed with interest. 'Do you understand what I mean?'" (Part 2)

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (parts 6 and 7): "'Andrea, right?' 'Yeah.' She glared at him and brushed a strand of black hair away from her face. 'Look, before you even say it, my lousy parents are making me work here to save money for college. Not that you'd understand anything about that.' 'Hey!' Kevin exclaimed, suspecting that he'd just been insulted. Then he paused. 'Wait, which part don't I understand?'" (Part 7)

  • Star Trek: Adventures on New Victoria – Trouble in the Gipps Sea (Non-Daria), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "'Miss Allenby?' the person said, in a strange accent that Kazza could not identify. She was sure that was to put her off guard, whilst she thought about it. 'Hi, to what do I have the pleasure?' she said. 'You don't fool me, Miss Allenby. We know that a member of the Q Continuum was warning you about something, most likely us, though we only have the audio of your side of the conversation,' the person said. Kazza could see that he had a poker face, he wasn't giving anything away..."

  • Tigresses of Summer (reposted), by taishigi (part 1): "'This is going to be my new look,' Jane stated firmly, before rounding on Daria. 'And you're assisting in the procedure.' 'I'm what?' Tom was equally surprised. 'You're not serious!' Jane's fierce look gave the other two a glimpse of her inner-tiger, and Tom at least was worried. Sensing weakness, Jane turned on him first. 'What do you mean? I thought you liked it!'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "The mid semester entrance of Jane Lane to the Hollowed Halls of BFAC was met with mostly indifference by the trustfund artfags. 'Ew! Scholarships? Pell grants? Student loans?' The Genuine Artfags, i.e., the gay and lesbian students at BFAC was much different. These were serious art students, looking to hone and develop their skill and talent. The recognition of a kindred spirit, although straight, led to invitations to all the best parties and meeting all the interesting people at BFAC."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by Dennis (COMPLETE!): "'I thought your said it would be just like Lawndale,' Jane said as she pulled up to the light. An Applebee's and a King Kullen covered one side of the street, while the other was dominated by the concrete railroad el that rose from a sea of parking lots. 'It is,' Daria said. 'Same rows of pre-fab homes, same shitty chain restaurants, same gas stations and bars and all the usual crap.'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by J-D (COMPLETE!): "'What’s the deal with the writing on the road at all these street corners telling you which way to look when you cross? Is it a special service for stupid people?'"

Fanfic Update!
  • The Author as a Lesbian, Season 3, by DeacBlue (parts 11 and 12): "When she came back down, she looked straight at her daughter. 'So what do you need, Daria?' Daria gave a Mona Lisa smile. 'Jane'll explain.' Jane smiled. 'Helen, we've loved living here with you, but we all have felt that we are squeezing your family a bit. We were wondering about any advice you'd have on maybe getting a place of our own?'" (Part 12)

  • The Beginning of Our Story, by ST91 (part 8): "'Me too. Jane I know that we know only a few hours but I think that could work between us so ... want to be my girlfriend?' 'Your girlfriend? So let’s see a little bit: I just met a guy, cute, smart, sarcastic, and that kiss really well ...' 'Don’t forget martial arts expert.'"

  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (parts 2 - 4): "'What is it Daria? I’m really busy.' Helen said as she didn’t even look up from her notepad. 'It’s about my sister...' started Daria. 'What has Quinn done now?' 'No, my *other* sister.'" (Part 3) (Part 4)

  • God Save The Esteem ep37: CSI Don't Care, by Charles RB (part 5): "'You think the Morgue’s been hijacked?' Tom had taken the call and made Daria very happy by understanding the situation without interrupting her, pointing out flaws, or being Quinn. 'It’s a cunning plan. Take it away from the public, then provide access to all the notes for a fee – and at this school, that’s a big fee in the same way the Grand Canyon is a big hole.'"

  • In My World, by 45Ranger (part 9): "'So girls, how was your first day?' Quinn spoke up first. 'It was pretty good. I met some nice people to start off. They’ve made me Vice-President of the Fashion Club. I was also offered a spot on the Pep Squad without an audition, but I told them I had already made one commitment, let me balance that with my academics and see how that works out. By the way Daria, Sandi wanted me to extend an invitation to you, on her behalf, to join as well. She’d like to talk to you tomorrow if you have the time. If not I invited them over after school tomorrow.'"

  • LLH Mini - Hacking, by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "'I do...things.' Dynell smiled. 'What kind of things?' Kendra asked. 'Or better yet - what kind of things will we be doing?' 'I'll be asking for your assistance on a highly-individualized set of activities that fall under no specific category. Some mundane. Some fascinating. Some tedious. And some...very dangerous.' Kendra and Chadni exchanged looks. 'If you're interested,' Dynell said. All five girls looked at each other. 'Oh yeah,' Gwen said. 'I'm interested.'"

  • My Little Phantom Daria with Princess Peach! (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by OverlordMikey (COMPLETE!): "Daria looks at Jane [Daria] beside her 'This has to be a dream.' 'I don’t know Amiga- try punching me! If it’s a dream I’ll know - if not it’s drug.' The scene flashes to Jane being punched by Daria who stands over her with a malicious grin. Before flashing back to the two standing before Princess Peach [Mario]. 'That’d explain the mushroom men.'"

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (part 5): "Kevin fidgeted in his chair as he looked around the nearly empty room. It was the day before Thanksgiving, and almost all of the kids had gone home right after school for the holiday weekend. Except for one. Ten minutes earlier, the boy had dragged himself into the gym and dropped into a seat on the other side of the room, dropping his bookbag on the floor at his feet as he slumped forward and stared at the floor. He hadn't moved or said anything since."

  • Quinn Spirit Detective, by Reven384 (part 3): "Botan grabbed her hand and started dragging her through town. Quinn started to feel nauseous when she saw where they were. They ended up at Sandi Griffin’s house. Botan couldn’t be serious. 'You want me to help her after all the vicious things she’s said about me. The girl has practically wished for me to die. After the way she treated Stacy you want me to help her!' Quinn yelled."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "'Well Jane,' Daria said, 'what do you think about Atlanta?' 'Don't do it,' Jane said. 'Sure they've got the Braves, but it's a third-rate symphony.' 'Oh, so you saw the same Futurama episode? What do you really know?'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by RX-87 (COMPLETE!): "'I dunno. I mean, that art gallery was pretty crazy. Even the lobby. I know we gotta go further west on it from here to get to the club where Trent's playing tonight.' Jane said as they approached the museum steps. 'I think it's the one up here...' Daria said as they walked north, 'Yeah, see, there's the street sign and-oh my god.'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by Staren (COMPLETE!): "Quinn looked at her parents incredulously. 'What do you mean there's no beach!? This supposed to be Key West Florida!' she whined."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria and Jane in your Home Town), by tafka (COMPLETE!): "Daria looked at Jane incredulously. 'It’s not even a paddlesteamer. You know, the thing this town is known for. The entire point of us coming here in the first place.' Jane just shrugged. 'Look, how was I to know that they’d actually be popular, or that you had to book them weeks in advance? This was the only one with any tickets left, let alone enough for your family. Although, now that it has left the docks, I’m beginning to see why.'"

Well, Ms. Li Did Once Mention a Brief Career as a Dancer!

Happy birthday to the late Louise Brooks, who was a dancer, model, showgirl, silent film actress, and inspiration for Ms. Li's alter ego on the left. Born in 1906, Brooks also popularized the bobbed hairstyle that Jane herself sports on Daria.

Today is also World Diabetes Day, and Mr. O'Neill and Jane Lane have this advice to share:

Mr. O'Neill: You know what they say, a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.

Jane: Not if you're diabetic.

  • The Author as a Lesbian, Season 3, by DeacBlue (part 10): "Jen was on the other end of the line. 'Jane! We're all in jail and we need help!' 'Jail? Why are you in jail?' Well, we were on our way to Fremont, and apparently Max swerved across the line a couple of times. We got pulled over, and they gave us a ticket.' 'Hell, if they just gave you a ticket, why are you in jail?' 'Because we're out of state. They want us to pay up right away, and none of us have a hundred dollars on us. We were figuring to be paid at the gig.'"

  • Be Careful What You Wish For, by Doggieboy (part 3): "Mike looked around at the food and rubbed his belly in anticipation. 'I’m glad that we came here, too,' he said. 'Now this is a party.' Scarlett and Tan turned towards him quickly, while John said, 'No! Don’t say it!' Almost instantly, all clothing vanished from view and every single person in the building appeared to be completely naked. 'Too late,' Tan said, her voice choked. 'Look down!'" (SFMB)

  • Boxing Ms. Morgendorffer, by Chris Tucker: "With Jane's ever improving carpentry skills, she proved to be a very able assistant, and the work progressed rapidly until Friday night... 'You know what? I think it's finished.'"

  • Cleveland Esteemsters (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "'Well, girls, here we are on our first day in Ohio!' Jake cheerfully said to his daughters as they drove to school. 'You do know what this town is famous for, right, Dad?' Daria asked."

  • Crossing Stars, by Silver: "'Might want to try that a little faster,' Mack griped. 'They're in dogfight range, and we're taking hits.' Daria hit the button on her armrest. 'Jane, please tell me you have a way to reinforce the shields.' 'Not unless you want to slow down,' came the even reply from the speaker. Daria swore."

  • Daria - Double Down, by neonhomer (part 1): "She logged in to Thunderbird to check her email. The usual spam, an email reminded for the upcoming Sick Sad World marathon on Christmas eve, and a email from a unknown person. 'Probably trash.' She said to herself as she went to hit the Delete key, until she read the subject... 'Looking for Daria Morgendorffer'. Looking for? Her email address WAS her name. She read on..."

  • First Day of Summer, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "Daria looked at the Dega L’dale Gothic Magazine building as she and Jane approached it. It was a well-kept building that dated from the early 1930’s and still had much of its Art Deco looks. 'You called ahead while we were at the Mall, didn’t you?' she asked. 'You know me too well.' Daria sighed."

  • Five Minutes to Midnight, by untra (parts 13 - 16): "'I miss you, every day,' Jane said. 'I decided to come just this once, to see how you are doing.' 'Jane. Please stop this. Stop seeing me. My life is finally getting back on track. I...' 'Trent, I-' 'I DON'T NEED THIS RIGHT NOW JANE!' Trent suddenly yelled." (Part 14) (Part 15) (Part 16)

  • God Save The Esteem ep37: CSI Don't Care, by Charles RB (parts 3 and 4): "An intelligent, sneaky person that was hip to Lawndale’s social interactions and rules would know how to play this investigation. They’d find one of the suspects, integrate themselves using their own rep and popularity, make up a story, spin it out a bit, offer something to something while intending nothing. But Cindy had become Queen Bee because everyone else in the running had poisoned so many wells that the county was importing bottled water from another country. So she just went up to Joey and said: 'Hey, Joey, do you know the guy who gives out test results?'" (Part 4)

  • Healing at Hogwart's, by DeacBlue (COMPLETE!): "Jane sat down beside Daria on her bed. They had been talking a bit, and Daria was shaking like a leaf. 'If something had happened to Quinn tonight, something worse...' Daria said. Jane nodded. 'I know.' 'No, I don't think you do. I-I ... I was out of my mind, I ... I did things I can't even...' Daria took a deep breath. 'It won't happen again, I promise. No more spells. I'm finished.'"

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (part 4): "Kevin couldn't stop looking at the penguin. He was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to wobble like that, and he was starting to think the head might break off and hurt someone. Normally he'd never have noticed something like that, but his time as the Safety Guy had taught him to notice stuff that wasn’t safe. And that parade float was definitely not safe."

  • Questions Asked Questions Answered & Pizza w/ Jane, by Lord Yellowtail (epilogue): "Jane had always deserved better when she was alive. The universe’s inability to leave her in peace now left Question staring out into the endless black gulf at the edge of her formidable patience. She wouldn’t say it, but she was glad the Girl Scout had invited herself along. If Question had been left to her own devices, especially in the wake of her mother and ... Eric ... there was a strong possibility she might have done something ... stupid."

  • Quinn's Code 04: Geekery at the Mega-Mall, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "'Sandi, I think you could have handled that confrontation better,' Tori said. 'Oh, Really? What do you mean?' Sandi asked, annoyed at Tori. 'You didn't act like the mature teenager you are, you acted more like either of your brothers would have,' Tori said. Sandi stared at Tori. Stacy slid down in her seat."

  • Quinn Spirit Detective, by Reven384 (part 2): "'Okay let’s get down to business,' Koenma said pulling out an egg, 'This egg will be the key to your revival. It will hatch a spirit beast that will either bring you back to life or eat your soul depending on what kind of person you are.' Quinn paled remembering all the boys she milked for everything they were worth. She remembered the shoddy way she treated her family. Certainly she was no saint, but she didn’t think she deserved to have her soul eaten."

  • Rude Awakening Ep.9: Join The Club, by DIsaac (part 8): "SANDI: It's serious. Quinn and Jeffy aren't talking. STACY: Let's just assume we are being great best friends by doing nothing and staying out of the way. SANDI: But what kind of friends would we be? TIFFANY: (under her breath) Not a bunch of nosy stuck up bitches that's love meddling in the affairs of a friend when it's totally not need! SANDI: What? TIFFANY: Whhhhaaaaatttttt? SANDI: Nevermind."

  • Unnamed story (IC: What would Lawndale be like if...), by Greystar (COMPLETE!): "Jake - That's not what I meant... necessarily. (turns radio off) The point is, the first day at a new school is bound to be difficult... (Daria empties the tic-tacs into the pill bottle.) Daria - (shakes pill bottle) Only if word that you blew up the last one gets there first. Jake – Uh... yeah. Where was I? Oh, yeah..."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Kitchen Clone Wars), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "[SCENE: Li now appears before a live audience of Lawndale High Students, which seem to be surrounded by gun-toting armed guards. They applaud as if their safety depends on it. Li is dressed in a pantsuit that Liberace threw away for being too tacky and over-the-top.] LI: But which of my cooks - my Iron Chiefs - will bring honor to Lllllllawndale High? I SUMMON THE IRON CHIEFS!"

  • Un-sureness, by roguebert (part 3): "'So...' Jane began. 'What’s up with you? You’re, like, a million miles - or at least two dimensions away.' She paused waiting for a response. 'You were right there with us until about half way through dinner. I seems like when I came back from the bathroom...' she broke off, not exactly knowing how to finish that sentence. In a TV-New York-tough guy accent, 'You know, relative or no, if that Amy-dame said something to offend... the boys and me can have a word...'"

  • Untitled Batgirl Story (Non-Daria), by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "Six weeks later, I found him. I watched him shoot and kill a prostitute. Found out her name was Christy. She was 14. I was too late to stop him, but I got the gun that MAY have killed my parents. I also shot that cop. By accident as we struggled for control of the gun. That's the only reason I'm alive right now and being hunted by every cop in the 14th and there's no way I can make it to safety in the 15th."

Pizza and Art...It's Jane Lane's Perfect Combination!

Today is National Pizza with Everything (except Anchovies) Day! Pull up a slice at the Pizza Prince, but watch out for that extra quart of grease they added to the recipe. The Fashion Club will probably have their usual Pizza with Nothing (except Cheese) special.

Happy birthday to the late sculptor Auguste Rodin, born on this day in 1840. Rodin is known for three things related to Daria fandom. First, Daria speculates to Jane whether or not Steve Taylor's Lawn Jockey with Lantern is the original Rodin or a forgery in the episode "Art Burn." Also, one of Rodin's most famous works, The Thinker, appears to be the figure on Daria's Dian Fossey Award for Dazzling Academic Achievement in the Face of Near-Total Misanthropy trophy. Finally, the sculptor's legacy plays an important role in The Angst Guy's fanfic Forgotten But Not Gone.

A Day for Remembrance

Today is Veterans Day, Armistice Day, and Remembrance Day, depending on what part of the world you live in. They all mean the same thing, though: today we remember those who served their country and died in battle. Thank you to all veterans out there--your service means a great deal to us all.

Brother Grimace wrote a fanfic, A Special Day for the Colonel, that seems appropriate to this day. It was written as a tribute to the U. S. Marine Corps, which was formed 236 years ago yesterday.

psychotol wrote another fanfic, How Patriotic, that takes place on this holiday.

This is also the anniversary of the birth of George S. Patton, born on this day in 1885. Mack is shown on the left as the controversial general, as he salutes the brave men and women who have given their lives in service.

Invent Yourself Some Freedom!

Hey, everybody! It's Inventors' Day! Inventor Mack is mixing us up some refreshments to celebrate, but in the meantime let's all see if we can come up with anything as creative as Andrew Landon's folding coffee cup.

Today is also World Freedom Day, which sounds kind of vague but is apparently about celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall and victory over Communism. I couldn't find anything that said whether or not the Communists in question were atomic, but we can celebrate all the same. I wonder what the Holiday Island version of World Freedom Day is like?

Fanfic Update!
  • 111 Howard Drive (IC: What If The Lanes Weren't Wanderers?), by RX-87 (COMPLETE!): "'Well, here it is,' the dark-haired girl said as she pointed to the moldering ruin with a plump, babyish finger, 'Casa Lane.' 'Cool...' the redhead cooed, grasping the ankh around her neck absently, 'It certainly looks like a haunted house. What's the story on it? And what the heck is that in the yard?' 'Some kinda sculpture,' the dark-haired girl said as she started down the house's front walkway, 'The family who used to live here, the parents were artists. At least they used to be.'"

  • Antiestablishmentarian Hikers, by Lawndale Skulker: "Noting Quinn's darkening red face and protruding eyes, Jake tapped Helen on the shoulder and said, 'Helen. Don't kill Quinn, honey. Let Quinn breathe, dear.' Either Quinn's struggling, Jake's words, or his trying to pull her arms apart registered on Helen, and she relaxed her grip. Quinn bent over, rested her hands on her knees, and took a deep, gasping breath. 'Oh, Quinn, I'm sorry!' Helen cried, and would have hugged her again had not Quinn ducked behind Jake."

  • The Author as a Lesbian, Season 3, by DeacBlue (part 9): "Jake stood up, raised his fist, growled, 'Why, those lousy, no good -' He looked to his left, where his hand had suddenly fallen to his waist. 'Hey, you know, it's the darndest thing, I can't feel my arm!' With that, he crumpled to the ground. Amid the cries of 'Jakie!' and 'Daddy!' Jen almost dived to the floor. As she pulled Jake straight, she yelled at Daria, 'Call 911!' Feeling at his carotid, she let out a sigh. 'Got a pulse!' She then put her cheek next to his mouth. 'No Breath!'"

  • A Family Together (IC: What If The Lanes Weren't Wanderers?), by OverlordMikey (part 1): "Jane turned to a young man. He was fairly well groomed, his face shaved, his hair styled, and clean tidy clothes. Despite his conventional appearance Jane knew he understood her. 'Hey Trent, you back from school already. They kick you out or you just visiting.' 'Funny,' Trent said as he sat beside her. 'I drove down here because your letter made it sound like something was bugging you-'"

  • Five Minutes to Midnight , by untra (parts 10 - 12): "I was a little nervous about the concert on Saturday, but I was mostly just afraid my anxiety would kick in and make the experience miserable. Jane reassured me it would be like attending a movie; dark, loud and crowded. People would be standing up, and alcohol would be served. Worst case scenario would be if the anxiety kicked in, and I spent the night sitting in the corner, trying not to scream out in desperation. Best case scenario would be I have fun." (Part 11) (Part 12)

  • God Save The Esteem ep37: CSI Don't Care, by Charles RB (parts 1 and 2): "'I WOULD threaten to give EVERYONE an F unless the guilty party came FORWARD, but this RANCID PIT you’ve made of a school is on a KNIFE-EDGE and can’t afford ANOTHER academic scandal! SO! Instead, there’s ANOTHER test tomorrow and I’ll be looking VERY suspiciously at anyone with WILDLY DIFFERENT results... and anyone I JUST DON’T LIKE.' 'Got Kevin coming and going,' muttered Jane." (Part 2)

  • In My World, by 45Ranger (part 8): "'I’d like to see some of your work. That is, if you don’t mind.' Daria glanced sharply at Jane, whose eyes widened. 'I’m sorry. Forget I asked. That was rude.' Hearing fear in Jane’s voice and seeing it on her face, and guessing its cause, Daria spoke to reassure her. 'It’s okay. I’m not offended. I thought you were joking. To be honest you’re the first person who’s shown any interest in a long time. Maybe we could trade. My family doesn’t like reading the poetry and short stories and they just don’t get the spy stuff. I don’t blame them. It’s just not their thing.'"

  • The Lady and the Tiger, by RLobinske (part 1): "The size of a large Maine Coon cat, the striped feline stretched with great vigor and then jumped over to the sofa to look over the back at his human. 'The first girl to show up was cute. Are you going to see her some more?' Hobbes asked. Scooping empty soda cans and chip bags into a plastic bag, Calvin said, 'As long as you don't scare her off.'"

  • A Normal Family (IC: What If The Lanes Weren't Wanderers?), by ST91 (COMPLETE!): "'So Jane, I have spoken to you about my family. Now it's your turn to spill the beans: What dark secrets hide the Lane family?'"

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (parts 2 and 3): "'Well, stop fighting.' 'Make us!' jeered Pummeler. Kevin shrugged. Plan B, he decided. One of the teachers came running as the sound of anguished squeals filled the gym. 'What are you doing?' she exclaimed to Kevin, who now held a boy's neck under each arm. 'It's, like, extreme mentoring,' he replied." (Part 3)

  • Quinn's Code 04: Geekery at the Mega-Mall, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 6): "'Well, well. If it isn't like, the Geekendorffer!' Sandi said as she approached, with the rest of the Fashion Club behind her. 'Of course she would be here!' Quinn said. 'Murphy's Law and all.'"

  • Quinn Spirit Detective, by Reven384 (prologue and part 1): "The boy resumed kicking the ball. Quinn shook her head and continued home. She needed to get the gold card from her mom, so she could buy some new shoes. The kid kicked the ball in the road at the same time a car was recklessly zooming towards the kid." (Part 1)

It's a Kitchen Sink Blog Post!

We've got something for everyone today! Not only is it Young Readers Day, which Daria observed for most of her childhood, but it's also Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day. Jake's going to get right on that with his Kitchen Sink Stew! Finally, today happens to be Dunce Day as well, so we won't be leaving out Kevin and Brittany, either.

It's also a major day for birthdays: Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind, was born on this day in 1900. Her book inspired not one but two alter egos as well as several canon references within the show. Bram Stoker was also born on November 8, in 1847, but Sandi continues to insist that his name is Brad. Finally, Hermann Rorschach was born in this day in 1884. Without him, there would have been no Rorschach tests and therefore no herds of beautiful wild ponies running free across the plains.

Fall Back!

In those areas that observe it, Daylight Saving Time ended earlier today. That means the clocks got set back one hour, giving us all one extra hour of sleep. Daria, I'm sure, is grateful for that.

Fanfic Update!
  • Be Careful What You Wish For (SFMB), by Doggieboy (part 2): "'We’ll see him and Tan tomorrow night,' Scarlett said. 'He wants us involved in his next wish. Maybe we can be a positive influence over him.' John sighed as he turned onto a highway. 'I hope so,' he said and glanced at Scarlett. 'I really don’t like the thought of what he could have that genie do when he’s too excited.'" (PPMB)

  • The Beginning of Our Story, by ST91 (part 7): "'Elizabeth , I swear it to you. Now please tell me why you do not want to get glasses.' There were a few seconds of silence and then the girl said: 'Because I'm afraid'"

  • Daria and Whiskers, by Doggieboy (COMPLETE!): "Daria Morgendorffer shuffled under the thick blue comforter and hummed in her sleep from the warmth. Her breathing was smooth and she was not yet in a snoring mode The ticking of the alarm clock was soft; the blue neon numbers filled the room with a very soft light."

  • Five Minutes to Midnight - 11:56, by untra (parts 7 - 9): "'Daria, the Bible club was going to have a friendly ice cream social to invite new members, and I was wondering if you would-' 'No.' 'Please Daria?' Quinn begged. 'You're so alone all the time, and I'm concerned about-' 'Don't pity me Quinn. It kills me a little when you take pity on me.'" (Part 8) (Part 9)

  • Homeless Daria Episode 4: Cafe Dispossessedo, by RX-87 (part 3): "'Interesting...' Daria fumed, 'More so even than threats of police brutality and the prospect of landing in Juvenile Hall.' 'Hey, you think that's brutality you ain't seen shit,' the cop laughed sardonically, 'You should see what they do to kids like you way down south of the border where my family came from.'"

  • Lawndale and Sandi Griffin’s Genie (Chapter 6), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "'And then what? We find the person who has the emerald. What happens then?' Stacy asked. 'We keep an eye on them, ensure that they don’t wish for anything that would be detrimental to Lawndale as a whole,' Samara said. 'Good plan,' Stacy said."

  • A QB Grows in Lawndale, by Kristen Bealer (part 1): "Brittany glared at him. 'Yes, it does! My Kevvy is a football leader of men. My Kevvy wouldn't let the whole team down. My Kevvy wouldn't let Lawndale become a loser town!' She walked away, and for just a moment Kevin thought about calling her back. Then he remembered what he'd said to Mack just minutes before. They look up to me. He thought about the football team, and then he thought about all those kids. He made up his mind. 'Sorry, Mack Daddy,' he said as he turned his attention back to his friend. 'I've just gotta do this, you know?'"

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef (SC): The Hootenanny), by Gouka Ryuu and ST91 (parts 2 and 3): "'Wow, for such a sleaze-bag, who knew Upchuck had such a good singing voice?' Commented Jane, actually looking rather intrigued. 'The voice of an angel, the mentality of a dog in heat.' Commented Daria idly, not really caring. Jane was just about to comment when there was a yell. 'NOOOOOO!! KILL ME INSTEAD! I CAN'T LIVE THROUGH IT AGAIN!'" (Part 3)

Today is Guy Fawkes Night! It commemorates the day Guy Fawkes did not blow up the House of Lords, which seems unfair. I didn't blow up the House of Lords, either, but no one named any holiays after me! Ah, well. Celebrate the day with lots of fireworks or, if that's not your thing, by playing in a hiphop-punk-electronica band. Your choice.

This is also the birthday of Lynn Cullen, the controversial character from The Look Alike Series. Love her or hate her, you can't deny that the series had an impact on fandom.

Not Exactly June Cleaver, Is She?

Today is Housewife's Day! I'm having a really hard time picturing Helen embracing this role, but maybe that's just because it would be really hard to hear her cell phone over the sound of the vacuum cleaner.

This is also National Sandwich Day, so grab your favorite BLT or PBJ and have yourself a snack. If you found the sandwich in the Tank, however, it would be best to leave it alone. Especially if you found it by sitting on it. Ewwww.

Fanfic Update!
  • The Author as a Lesbian, Season 3, by DeacBlue (parts 4 - 8): "Daria looked down, and muttered, 'My story sucks.' Helen pursed her lips. 'Well, honey, I'm sure if you just give it another day or two...' 'You don't understand. I really only have about a week left to do this, and I accepted the job of organizing the dance in two weeks, so I need this done in a day or two. And I've been writing, it's just that everything that I write has been done before, or is just crap.' Daria sighed. 'I wanted to write something meaningful. I can't write anything at all.'" (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8)

  • Be Careful What You Wish For (SFMB), by Doggieboy (prologue and part 1): "Nothing tried, nothing gained, she thought, then said, 'There’s no backing out now. You can do this, Scarlett.' She turned right at the corner of Charles and Eighth, and saw her destination. He was outside, his back to her, and squatted beside the sidewalk near the front door of his apartment." (PPMB)

  • The Beginning of our History , by ST91 (part 6): "'You kissed him' the little girl giggled 'No Liz, I hugged him ...... and after that I kissed him' Jane said while blushing 'Look at you; you’re as red as your lipstick.' Liz said as she rolled on the floor by the laughter"

  • The Fashion Club Situation (Iron Chef: Resevoir Dars), by JPAGC (part 1): "'Don’t "Now Quinn" me, do you hear!?' She sighed and continued in a calmer tone: 'Listen, the Fashion club should get here at...' she consulted her watch ' hour and a half. So, I suggest you call whoever you have to call, do whatever you need to do, and then get out of my house with your...' she shivered again '...dead things.'"

  • Five Minutes to Midnight - 11:56, by untra (parts 3 - 6): "'Daria, I've been thinking about what you said earlier today. When we changed seats.' 'About you killing small animals as a lawyer?' 'Hear me out and I'll pretend you never said that or brought it back up in the first place,' She hissed in frustration. I nodded in understanding. 'Daria, it's what you said about your peripheral vision. I want to know, what do you think about trying out contacts?'" (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6)

  • God Save The Esteem ep36: Occupational Hazard, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "The loan officer took a single look and then kept looking. 'Ms Morgendorffer, I... I understand you’re looking to start a new business?' 'Yes. Hey you fascist bully-boy bastard, give me a loan.' Daria took out a CD player and started up Holst’s Mars. Then leant forward. 'I brought pie charts.' I think I gave up before I started." (Part 5)

  • In My World, by 45Ranger (part 7): "As they walked the last bit to Jane’s house a decrepit black and rusted van drove by going the other direction and honked as it passed them, Jane waving in reply. Daria watched the van then turned back to Jane with a questioning look in her eyes. Jane saw this and knew what shorter teen was about to ask. 'That was the band. I didn’t see Trent with them so they either just got done with practice or cleaning out the refrigerator. They better have left something, getting my brother to go to the store is a pain. Let’s go see which it was then.'"

  • Is It Halloween Yet?, by peapotmaster (part 2 and 3): "Daria’s sister, Quinn, entered her older sister’s room as she began looking for something. She knew that her sister was weird, but not this weird. As she continued to look around, she could feel a cold chill on her neck, as she turned around to see the ghost of Mari Ravencroft sitting on Daria’s bed. 'What the hell are you doing in Daria’s room?' The ghost asked Quinn. 'You know Daria doesn’t like you in her room unannounced.'" (Part 3)

  • Lawndale and Sandi Griffin’s Genie (Chapter 5), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "'Report, Quinn, over.' 'Mrs. Griffin is in the library,' Quinn said. 'Why are you telling me that?' Elias asked in wonder. 'She might ask about Sandi, and you know how I react under pressure!' Quinn said."

  • Lawndale State, by Roentgen (unfinished): "'No, Daria, we need you to go somewhere, some college that no one has ever heard of. That no one gives a rat's ass about, that's such a low-profile, fourth-tier failure that they'd never believe that you'd go there. And I'd go under an assumed name, just to be safe.' 'O...kay. But what kind of sack of crap school are you thinking of?'"

  • Night of The Living Esteemsters, by DIsaac (part 1): "JANE: I will come up with your costume this year. MACK: SEXY FIREFIGHTER! DARIA: I swear to god, Michael Jordan Mackenzie, If you don't stop put sexy in front of every occupation I will kick your ass - Texas style! MACK: EEP!"

  • Purity Test (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Smijey (COMPLETE!): "Once at the center of the crowd, Daria and Jane saw what the student body had been fawning over, and both of them (even Daria) were a little impressed. For at the center of the crowd stood a majestic unicorn, ivory white from the tip of its horn to its tail, and even its hooves."

  • Quinn's Code 04: Geekery at the Mega-Mall, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 5): "Quinn, Xavier, Wolfgang and Koichi left Cuter Computer, with the three boys carrying most of the hardware. 'Great! Why did I have to pay nearly a hundred dollars for a share of Quinn's stuff?' Xavier wondered. He saw that the three of them had paid for just over half of the price of the computer equipment. 'I hope she pays it back...'"

  • Rude Awakening Ep.9: Join The Club, by DIsaac (part 7): "TIFFANY: Issss tttthhhheeee coooooasssssssttttt cleaaaaaarrrrrrrrr? STACY: If you shut the door, you will be. (TIFFANY shuts the door quickly) TIFFANY: Good thing! That voice is murder to my vocal cords. I've been noticing Quinn isn't acting like her happy care-free self, What's up?"

  • 'Til You Drop (IC: What would Lawndale be like if...), by RX-87 (COMPLETE!): "The bombings weren't the sad result of a beautiful new era gone wrong. They were the result of the same impulse that had created the colonies in the first place. Simple animal bloodlust and the desire for dominance. All those rockets were nothing more than giant phalluses, penetrating the heavens. It was a good essay, she thought. Full of the bitterness and cynicism she was known for. Shame nobody would ever get to read it."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Resevoir Dars), by Arena del Sur (COMPLETE!): "Jane: Right now it's a matter of business. With the exception of Daria and myself, whom you already know, we're going to be using aliases on this job. Under no circumstances do I want any one of you to relate to each other by your Christian names. And I don't want any talk about yourself personally. All I want you guys to talk about –if you have to– is what you're going to do. That should do it. Here are your names... QB, Jimmy, Don Guano, Quinnie O, Bro, and Mack Daddy."

  • Unnamed story (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Crossovers), by Wraith: "Pinkie ignored everything going on above her, and flipped back to her feet. Rearing up, she managed to snake one of her forelegs around Charles' waist. Looking at Twilight, she said, 'He's good! Can we keep him? Huh? Huh? Can we keep him?'"

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Last Friday Night!), by Greystar (COMPLETE!): "'So, didja hear what happened to Sandi this weekend?' Stacy asked after she took a swig from her hip flask. 'No, what?' Tiffany asked back from around a mouthful of her pulled pork sandwich with extra sauce. 'She got busted again.'"
