Just Don't Paint WITH the Cocoa!

Jane looks perfectly content on Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, and in fact it almost looks like the person in her painting is holding an actual heart. So there's an added layer of inspiration for you!

Since this is also National Hot Chocolate Day, why not inspire your heart with some nice hot cocoa? It worked for that really cute family of teens who got stranded during a hurricane in that TV movie Quinn saw.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 11): "Julia hung up the phone and smiled, looking at the paper she’d used to write down the name and phone number she’d just been given."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 55): "The harrowing travel to a distant planet called Earth had taken just a few days, and yet Anna Felicia Coulthard, now finally back at her new home at Somewhere Else, was feeling more like she had spent entire weeks at that place."

  • Lordy, Lordy, Quinn's Forty, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "A large party was gathered at a massive table. Quinn sat at the table while her husband, Jim, sat to her right and their triplet sons, Tommy, Timmy and Teddy, sat to the left." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Meet-Cute, Daria Style (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "The Morgendorffers were hosting a special dinner, because tonight their eldest daughter Daria was bringing her significant other over to meet them for the first time."

Welcome, Curmudgeons of All Ages!

Grandma Lane wants everyone to know that today is Curmudgeons Day, and Jane is getting the message loud and clear. Emphasis on "loud." If you consider yourself a curmudgeon, then enjoy your day by getting your walker and then hitting someone with it!

Today is also National Puzzle Day, so either get out that 1000-piece or just see if you can help Jake figure out what King Tut was buried without. Hint: it wasn't his diver.

Cake AND Fun? Wow!

Quinn has absolutely outdone herself for Chocolate Cake Day, and while I'm a big fan of chocolate, cake, and especially chocolate cake I have to be suspicious. I mean, I wouldn't trust that girl to boil a pot of water, so that cake is definitely suspect.

This is also National Fun at Work Day, and since it's Friday I suppose the work day may be more fun than most. Helen, of course, doesn't know the difference between work and fun, so it won't make a difference to her.

Fanfic Update!
  • Annsteemsters, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (COMPLETE!): "That night, all alone in her cold and very dark personal room, Anna Felicia Coulthard lighted a huge black candle and sat down in total silence at the very center of her Pentagram."

  • Cold Heart Attack, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Jim and Vito were sitting in a holding cell. Vito was visibly worried while Jim was just plain pissed."

  • Lower Decks - An Aquatic Second Contact, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "'Captain’s Log Stardate 59063.3. The Cerritos has completed repairs after the Battle against Buenamigo’s Folly. We’re now on route to the Theta Aquarii System, home to a recently first contacted species, close to Klingon Space. We hope to get back into a routine of professionalism.'"

Yad Etisoppo Yppah!

I see Quinn and Daria have traded places for Opposite Day, and I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping they'll switch back soon. I am currently the opposite of comfortable with this dissonance.

At the very least, Daria should far prefer A Room Of One’s Own Day, given that her room is her preferred place of habitation. Go ahead and get your own room today, and bonus points if the walls are padded!

What About Foot Writing?

Daria's prepped and ready for Measure Your Feet Day, because she needs to know if she's still a six and a half B. Her shoe size, guys. Honestly.

Today is also National Handwriting Day, so I just want to warn Jamie to use a sharper crayon when he signs the card that goes with Quinn's flowers. Not that she'll remember his name anyway.

Fanfic Update!
  • Annsteemsters, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 4 - 6): "While Quinn was still shaken after having just moved to a completely new town, she was liking Lawndale, Pennsylvania a lot more with every hour that passed!" (Part 5) (Part 6)

  • Cold Heart Attack, by wilddogjj (parts 1 and 2): "Twenty-one-year-old Vito Carbone was strutting towards the velvet rope at Studio 54, the most famous disco in the world." (Part 2)

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 5): "'Good morning, Tywin,' said Genna, greeting her older brother and the Lord Paramount of the Westlands."

Is It Squirrels Yet?

Give plenty of love to those rats with fluffy tails because it's Squirrel Appreciation Day and you don't want those adorable little hooligans knocking over your trash cans. Jake will definitely take a pass, unless he can appreciate the squirrels by trapping them and dropping them off somewhere far away.

This is also the twentieth anniversary Is It College Yet?, which means the twentieth anniversary of the end of the show itself. It's been a wild twenty years for fandom, and here's to many more to come!

Don't Forget to Add the Crushed Ice!

Joey, Jeffy, and Jamie are in the right spirit (get it?) for Brew a Potion Day, and it wouldn't surprise me to learn they're trying to make a love potion for Quinn. Don't worry about her, though; I'm quite sure that the boys will knock over the entire cauldron when they start fighting over who gets to bring Quinn her drink.

Today is also National Tin Can Day, and I really hope everyone also remembers to bring a can opener. Poor 1950's Daria learned that one the hard way.

Fanfic Update!
  • All the Snark of Yesteryear, by welltemperedclavier (part 4): "Mr. DeMartino had gotten the yearbook. He’d let her know during third period history that day."

  • Annsteemsters, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 1 - 3): "Just as yet another normal day at Lawndale was starting, certain blue lexus speeded its way towards a distant and still mysterious Lawndale High..." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Brittany - Cafe of Contention, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 2): "'So, what’s this about fundraising?' Donna Bolton asked. Daria explained what she had told Brittany earlier."

  • Daria After COVID (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "It was funny how when you were in your thirties it forced one to look at your life and compare it to other people's."

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 4): "The train slowed down to a halt with squealing brakes and a toot of a whistle at the Westport station and the passengers began to get off."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by britabird (part 6): "It was now May, and the divorce went more amicably than Helen or Quinn could’ve expected."

  • Observe the Writing on the Wall, by A_Big_Old_Skeleton (COMPLETE!): "'I think we should break up.' Daria felt the words before she heard them, somehow."

  • Warrior Queens of Lawndale, by entrancedcat (part 1): "Daria smirked as Quinn’s lips twisted in disgust at the Sick, Sad World topic detailing exotic, possibly-still-alive cosmetic ingredients."

I Judge Those Peppers to Be Spicy!

Looks like Sandi's putting on her best judgmental face for Judgment Day, a holiday which fortunately has nothing to do with the apocalypse. Still, remember what Mr. O'Neill said: "Judge, and you get mental!" On second thought, don't remember that. It's stupid.

This is also National Hot Heads Chili Day and I am begging you, Jake, do not celebrate this one. Unless you want to see if your tongue can turn a darker shade than black.

Brrrrrrrrr!

I don't think Jane and Daria are especially enjoying World Snow Day, but maybe once they get all that stuff about boyfriends and blue M&Ms off their chests they'll feel better about it. They could make snow angels and build snowmen and get debilitating frostbite!

Whatever they do, I'm glad they have their heads covered because today is National Hat Day! But don't tell Helen that, because she hates the way she looks in hats.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 3): "Elaine Barksdale’s phone rang just after dinner. She set her television on 'Mute,' then picked up the receiver. It was Helen."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 54): "Lawndale Hallows Cemetery was in deep silence, cold and eerie solitude that day."

A Dream of Paraskevidekatriaphobia!

Quinn's got her fantasies all lined up for Make Your Dream Come True Day, but I hope she realizes that it will take more than closing your eyes and wishing to make most dreams actually come true. Unless your dream is to take a nap, I guess. Looks like Trent's dreams are about to come true, anyway!

Let's hope no one's dreams become nightmares, because it's also Friday the 13th! I'm not superstitious, but if you are then maybe avoid mirrors and black cats today. Better yet, send the black cats my way so I can pet them!

Tryptophan Beats Nicotine!

Somebody better tell Mr. DeMartino to stop smoking because it's Cigarettes are Hazardous to Your Health Day, and that's true even if you're hanging upside-down. It's especially true for people in high-stress jobs with a history of heart problems!

Instead, he should have a nice soothing glass of milk in honor of National Milk Day, but none for poor Jakey. Think of the cholesterol!

Fanfic Update!
  • All the Snark of Yesteryear, by welltemperedclavier (part 3): "Daria had spent the entire day mentally rehearsing what she’d say to Mr. DeMartino. The whole thing felt weirder the more she thought about it."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 9): "Daria put down the receiver and sighed, trying to sort out her mixed emotions after talking with Farrah."

  • The Engineer and the Time Lady, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 18): "'Say that again?' Emmerson asked. 'Hernandez was caught by the British agent?'"

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 53): "It was a dazzling and lovely day outside, the town of Grindelwald looked like a dream between all of those sharp and snowy mountains, everything felt quite peaceful and yet a shaky Ellie was far more scared than she had ever been in her life."

  • Song From An American Movie, by ladyevil (part 7): "Jane trained the camera on Doris as she whaled on the punching bag with both fists and occasionally a few strong kicks. The chain rattled as she grunted and her friends cheered her on."

  • The Wait, by Veritablefirestorm (COMPLETE!): "'Oh hi Daria,' Trent’s gravelly drawl greeted her from behind the barely open door before she could even see him. 'I think Janey’s out for a run.'"

The Airhead Pilots a Head Full of Air

Brittany and Kevin are having a blast on Balloon Ascension Day, although I fear it might be a bit cold for ballooning. That won't stop Terry Barry Barlow, though, as long as he has his (not-so) trusty Arno!

Jane, meanwhile, would rather celebrate Play God Day by taking people she knows and having them do whatever she wants. You know, just like a fanfic writer! Make 'em crawl, Janey!

One of the Most Accurate Alter Egos Ever!

Mr. O'Neill has finally found a use for his otherwise-useless but oversized head on National Bobblehead Day. I guess if you can't be competent at your job, you might as well be amusing.

Today is also I’m Not Going To Take It Anymore Day, which seems absolutely tailor-made for Mr. DeMartino. Try to relax, Mr. D. Take a hike, breathe deeply, tear a sink off the wall, whatever you need to do!

Beats Yet Another Night of Frozen Lasagna!

Helen and Jake are celebrating National Bird Day in an...unusual...fashion, but I'm not going to judge. Whatever a loving couple chooses to do in the privacy of their own bird's nest is their business.

This is also the Twelfth Day of Christmas, so you'd better go out and buy your true love twelve drummers drumming! Where you'd buy them and what your true love will do with them is anyone's guess.

Seattle Really Has a Lot to Answer For

Quinn's ready to jam for Women Rock! Day, but she'd better not let the Fashion Club catch her wearing "that, that grunge." She'd be expelled for life...unless she's attending another costume don'ts costume gala, that is.

Today is also Humiliation Day, so Daria will probably want to go pee in the woods while being watched by pervert squirrels and have someone dump paint all over her. Or rather, she won't want to, but it's likely to happen all the same.

Fanfic Update!
  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 52): "Everything at Aunt Ellie's alpine chalet just seemed far too good to be true!"

  • My Week At Lily's, by radiofox (part 3): "'We're here!' Camila cheered as she turned off the car and walked towards the trunk."

  • Unexpected Kindness, by radiofox (COMPLETE!): "On a beautiful sunny day in Lawndale; the teachers of Lawndale High were preparing for the usual day of classes."

  • You Want It Darker, by LSM (part 17): "'Hey.' 'The fact you picked up and are speaking means you have survived the holidays with your parents, sister and three kids. I commend your fortitude.'"

  • The Youngest Barksdale (Iron Chef: Daria The Youngest Barksdale), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 6): "'I just wanted to make sure your visit to Lawndale High has been everything you hoped it would be,' the Principal said."

Here's To a Great (or at Least Not Terrible) 2023!

Looks like Daria was up late partying to ring in the new year, and possibly even celebrating hard enough to qualify for National Hangover Day. I realize both scenarios are unlikely for someone with Daria's personality, but who knows? It's a brand new year! Anything could happen! Especially things that shouldn't happen!

This is also Ring a Bell Day, so follow Andrew Landon's advice and "ring the big bell!" But not too loudly. Some people might have hangovers.
