Could Someone Turn Down the...Everything?

I'm thinking Daria may have overindulged last night when celebrating the New Year, and by "overindulged" I mean "stayed up late reading a book or watching 'Sick, Sad World.'" Hopefully a bit of uninterrupted rest will help, but that's hard to come by with Daria's luck.

If you overindulged in the area of alcoholic beverages, then I wish you a very happy National Hangover Day! Sorry, I'll try to keep my voice down.

In the spirit of unity, I'll also share that today is Global Family Day, but don't tell Daria that. She has enough headaches with her immediate family without dragging the rest of the world into it.

Here's To a Great (or at Least Not Terrible) 2023!

Looks like Daria was up late partying to ring in the new year, and possibly even celebrating hard enough to qualify for National Hangover Day. I realize both scenarios are unlikely for someone with Daria's personality, but who knows? It's a brand new year! Anything could happen! Especially things that shouldn't happen!

This is also Ring a Bell Day, so follow Andrew Landon's advice and "ring the big bell!" But not too loudly. Some people might have hangovers.

"When dead clowns can't clown...."

I see Andrea got the memo about National Clown Day, but I'm still unsure about why she felt she had to join in. I guess if she already had a unicycle, doing otherwise would have been a wasted opportunity?

Today is also International Hangover Day, so if Andrea's unusual choice has anything to do with that flask she carries around, I expect she'll be regretting it soon.

Horizontal Stripes? Ewwwwww!

Tiffany's brushing off her sewing skills as Betsy Ross, who was born on this day in 1752. I'm not sure I'd trust Tiffany to sew on a button, let alone piece together an American flag.

I'll try to post this blog post quietly, though, in case anyone is observing National Hangover Day after last night's New Year's Eve activities. I figure with 2020 finally over, we all deserve a little celebration!

Fanfic Update!
  • Bearing the Summer, by Lady Evil (part 22): "Jane hoped Saylor wouldn’t think her rude for checking her watch while she sobbed, but it had been awhile."

Flaaaaaaaaaaaaag?

I'm not certain if Tiffany is recreating the creation of the American flag on the anniversary of Betsy Ross's birth on this day in 1752...or just trying to sew an outfit that won't make her look fat. If the latter, then those big horizontal stripes are a definite fashion "don't."

Today is also the first day of a new year, and may it be a good one! If anyone is celebrating National Hangover Day then I'll just say I hope the rest of the year goes better for you and then be quiet for awhile as you recover.

I Hope They Don't Want That Flag in a Hurry

Tiffany's showing some hidden skills as Betsy Ross, who was born on this day in 1752. If that's a new fashion she's working on, then I think Sandi might need to have a word with her about mixing primary colors during daylight hours.

Today is also New Year's Day and National Hangover Day, and I have no doubt that the two being on the same day is no coincidence. Have a happy (but quiet) new year!

Fanfic Update!
  • God Save The Esteem: Punk is Dead, by Charles RB (part 6): "Day brought with it Aunt Amy and Erin Chambers with tired eyes and tired faces. Amy and Helen embraced like they hadn't seen each other in an age, and Daria took an instinctive step back when Erin tried to do the same with her."

  • If Elected, I Will (Not) Serve, by JoeMerl (COMPLETE!): "Daria hadn't eaten all day, so she took a break from her computer to get some pizza. Which meant, of course, that she got the Secret Service agents to get some pizza for her."

  • I Now Pronounce You Upchuck and Stacy (Quinn, Season 2), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Quinn and Stacy by some mirrors while a seamstress (the same one from I Don't) works on Stacy's wedding dress. The dress is similar to the one Erin wore in I Don't." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Karen and Quinn Do a Promo! , by Captain Marbles (COMPLETE!): "'Shouldn't that be "Quinn and Karen?" I've got seniority, you know!' 'Let's just do this thing while I'm still young!'"

  • The Raid on Scarlett the Dark Fairy (An Alternate 'Hiding In Plain Sight/LLH-Universe Fic), by Aloysius (COMPLETE!): "This a tale of one of our favorite fairies, and how a particular New Year's Eve changed everything for her."

  • Skeletons (Pasta's Never-Ending Ideas Thread 2), by Princess_Pasta (part 1): "The world spiraled around him while he stood motionless, still, the only movement coming from the steady rise and fall of his chest. Bitter wind tore at his face like shards of glass and he cast his dark eyes up towards the sky, searching for an answer in the blanket of clouds."

  • Trent Boosted (Scenes No Daria fanfic should have: 600 Years Afterward.....), by Shiva (COMPLETE!): "'I didn't take your brother for the mechanically talented.' 'Neither did I Daria, neither did I.'"

  • Unnamed story (LLH Short Entries : Thread #2), by Roentgen (part 81): "Quietly, Quinn Morgendorffer entered the elevator at Legion Tower, having just arrived back in Lawndale after her Christmas in New Mexico with Danielle Todds's parents."

  • Ylem On Cookies, by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "'Hello, Bonnie. Love your place.' Ylem frowned. Bad enough to be interrupted now, here, by her... and I hate it when she calls me that."

Happy National Hangover Day!

To help you through this time of self-induced alcohol-fueled existential angst, we have fanfiction for you. But first, the art. Before that, though, the newz.

NEWZ!
THE ART!
PPMB
  • Daria Is Raven's Apprentice, by Project Pegasus (continued): "Say Robin, Old Man Wayne is rich. Maybe he can loan you a little more than that stack of dimes you're packing."
  • The Dream of the White Darkness, by jtranser (continued): At that point, long supple wires came out of the mask's mouth and directly plugged into her forehead. At that instant, a Powerpoint presentation streamed into her brain in a strict orderly fashion. At the same time, Daria was aware that all the directories and files in her brain were being renamed as inconsistencies were removed and consigned to the Land of the Gone Forever.
  • Esteeminator: The Daria Morgendorffer Chronicles, by Jim North (Part 1): Just as she started walking down the sidewalk, lights started flaring from a nearby alleyway, accompanied by an electrical noise. At first Terry thought that a transformer must have exploded, but the light and sound continued for several seconds before tapering off. Curious—and worried that someone might have been hurt by the display, or something else important might have been damaged—she carefully edged around the corner to see what had happened. Before Terry could get a good look, she was almost run down by a young woman exiting the alley. The girl was thin, but with an athletic build, which was easy to see since she was completely nude. She looked the older woman up and down, then spoke in a flat, emotionless voice. "Your clothes. Give them to me."
  • Falling into College 72: Valley of Love and Delight, by Richard Lobinske (Part 1): "Please tell me that you're going to be gaming and not using it to watch CGI porn. If you're going to do that, have a little self-respect and get a real stripper."
  • Invisible Love, by Charliefox2012 (Parts 9 and 10): The idea of Jane being with a guy made his heart seize painfully. And he knew that he was in trouble if he was starting to have feelings for his best and only friend. I can’t like her! This can’t happen! She is just a friend and a good one at that. I will not ruin this with a stupid crush. (FF.net)
  • Legion of Lawndale Heroes Mini: Fundamental Attribution Error, by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): Jane once told me that Daria will help someone in need, that she can be a soft touch. And I heard that when Daria was at USAES, she made out with all of the telepaths. Telepathically. I think.
  • A Night of Bells (but no Whistles), by Doggieboy (COMPLETE!): "Well, I guess that I can call you an iron maiden now, huh?" "Oh, you're a real laugh riot."
  • Spirit of the Law, by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "You're the Devil." Helen said it as a statement, not a question, and without a touch of fear in her voice. "I knew that I'd probably run into you sooner or later—but I thought I'd run into you at a hearing at the appellate level..."
  • Tears of the Cynic, by thatLONERchick (Part 1): Daria awoke in a fog. She lifted her head from the pillow, hair stuck to the side of her face and ruffled with sleep, to find a single glistening ruby perched upon the white linen pillowcase. Unease gripped the girl and the last fuzzy fingers of sleep fell away as she stared down at the blood droplet and slowly, a trembling hand traced her cheeks, lips, nose, chin. Nothing. Daria's eyes closed as her fingers wiped first tear duct, then the other. Red-tinged emerald eyes opened to the thick smear of blood across her fingers. Her heart fell, and she sighed. "Someone is going to die today."
  • Two Halves 5: Mall Rat Blues, by Dark Kuno (continued): “Mission accomplished,” the freckled boy announced. “You seem to still have a full set of teeth, so I doubt Brittany agreed to model bikinis for you,” commented Alex.
  • Unnamed story (Ryōri no Tetsujin (Iron Chef): Twit...errrrs), by Ajar (COMPLETE!): [too short to sample]
  • Unnamed story (Ryōri no Tetsujin (Iron Chef): Twit...errrrs), by Jim North (COMPLETE!): [too short to sample]
  • Unnamed story (Ryōri no Tetsujin (Iron Chef): Twit...errrrs), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): [too short to sample]
  • Unnamed story (Something That Popped into My Head (Damn tvtropes)), by Gouka Ryuu (COMPLETE!): It couldn’t possibly be true. That’s what Daria thought to herself from the moment she read the letter and all the information in the packet she had received in the mail about a week ago. The mantra was still going through her mind as she tried to decide whether this all thing was a good idea or not.
This concludes the year 2009 in Daria fanfiction. Thank you for being with us. Just ahead: 2010. Peace out.

Hello? Hello? Anyone home?

Stayed up too late last night? Too bad. Life rolls on. More to come as the day goes on.

VERY LATE ADD
: Back again. Whew!

Have to think of something to post for tomorrow. Have to update fanfiction stories list and get my nominations in for 2008. More shortly.

SHORTLY: Back again.

The 2008 Visual Fanworks Listing is complete! Thanks to the awesome Richard Lobinske! Go out, one and all, and NOMINATE!

TheSecretSharer asks the burning question: Daria's jacket: vinyl or cloth? I don't know why, either, but add your two pfennigs anyway.

Indulged too much last night? Here's a morning-after cure.

She could also be dispensing her latest chemistry project to unwitting test subjects. You never know.

Hope your New Year's Day is a pain-free one.

As Daria would say....

More later. Not home yet. I wrote this all out days ago.
