Study the Skies or Explore the Woods

It may look like Tiffany is celebrating National Astronomy Day, but I have my doubts. I don't even think Tiffany could spell astronomy, let alone study it. Honestly, she seems more like the astrology type, anyway.

If stars aren't your thing, you could observe Day of Trees instead! You could plant a tree (or if none is available, a crutch) or if you have to pee, you can pee behind those trees. See those trees? You can pee behind there!

Fanfic Update!
  • The Angel Among Us, by wilddogjj (part 1): "Quinn, Sandi, Staci and Nicole were standing before a grave in the cemetery, each holding a bouquet of flowers with sad expressions on their faces. The four struggled not to cry as they looked at the headstone."

  • My Daughter, Felicity, by Adelina (part 4 - 6): "(Daria and Felicity walk down the street. Felicity is wearing her brand new school uniform. She wears a white shirt with a necktie and navy blue blazer over it, and a skirt the same color as her blazer on the bottom. The breast pocket of her blazer has the school emblem. However, even though her uniform is well put together, Felicity’s hair remains quite messy. At least for a private school girl.)" (Part 5) (Part 6)

  • Quinn and Stacy - Troubles of Invitation, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Brittany Taylor was having difficulty in Art. She liked drawing in art, but she always had difficulty drawing three dimensional pictures."

  • Rebel Without a Clue, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "In the living room a nervous Timmy was shaking like a leaf while a cop was telling Quinn and Jim what their son was up to."

Tell a Story About Work!

Gather around the campfire, everyone! Daria's going to tell us a nice, cheerful tale for Tell a Story Day! I'm sure it will have happy characters and a soothing plotline and no cannibalism at all!

After that, Helen can take Daria and Quinn to the office with her for Take Your Daughter to Work Day. I'm a little surprised that the show never did an episode where one or both daughters spent time with either parent at work, but I suppose that's what fanfic is for.

Don't Alienate the Penguins!

I have to say that Sandi's new fashion statement is just in time for World Penguin Day, although I can't imagine what the rest of the Fashion Club will say. I suppose, knowing Sandi, that they'll say whatever she wants them to say. And bring her all the fish she can eat, too.

In fact, it's entirely possible that Sandi's new look is less about fashion and more about a freak laboratory incident, which would fit right in with National DNA Day. All I can say is that Sandi's future dates had better own tuxedos.

Setting aside the issue of penguins (my apologies to certain members of fandom), Daria may be interested to know that it's also Parental Alienation Awareness Day. She can choose to alienate her parents, be alienated by her parents, or believe that her parents are aliens, as she did in "The Lawndale File."

Fanfic Update!
  • The Engineer and the Time Lady, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 19): "'We're now close to the MI6 Building,' Hawkins reported as they passed the Vauxhall Bridge. 'Beginning scan,' T'Sal reported."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 63): "All of the world awaited to see what would happen to America after the terrible chemical attacks, fear was spreading everywhere like fire and meanwhile the plane that carried the very last chance of survival for Earth was flying so fast above the North Atlantic."

  • The Light at the End of the Pier (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Meester_Lee (COMPLETE!): "It was that kind of evening—the sort where the vibes in the Great Hall had gotten so unpleasant as to become unbearable."

  • My Daughter, Felicity, by Adelina (COMPLETE!): "(There is a closeup of a sign hung up on the door to a bedroom. The sign reads out “Totally Studying”, and the sign, shortly after, is covered by the sight of the back of a woman’s shoulders as she opens the door. Her sleeves are green, and her hair is a brownish color. You can tell that this woman was Daria.)" (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Rebel Without a Clue, by wilddogjj (parts 1 and 2): "Two of Quinn's ten-year-old sons, Tommy and Timmy, were at recess playing with the other fourth grade kids. Tommy was showing off his yo-yo skills." (Part 2)

  • Song From An American Movie, by ladyevil (part 10): "The Lawndale gym had numerous folding chairs set up around the ring, but even the standing room had been sold out. Daria clutched her camera close to her, afraid being jostled would damage it."

Maybe Just Read a Book About Dragons Instead?

I'm pretty sure that any knight that tries to celebrate Slay a Dragon Day is going to be in for a big disappointment. And a painful death. Brittany does not look like she's in the mood for any disrespect, so Kevin in particular had better keep his distance today.

Daria, on the other hand, would rather slay her TBR pile in honor of World Book Day, and I will happily join her. Readers unite, but quietly so we don't disturb each other's concentration.

Just Look at That Bouncity-Bounce!

Little Quinn is overjoyed to learn that today is Kindergarten Day, but then again I think that hyperactive child would be overjoyed to learn that the sky is blue. Don't tell Daria, but I think she's adorable.

We're one day late for 4/20, but we're just in time for International Hemp Day, Keep Off the Grass Day, and National Surprise Drug Test Day! You can't tell me that's all a coincidence.

Fanfic Update!
  • Are We Crazy Yet?, by Lexarius (part 4): "DarĂa turned around on her bed, it had been a strange night."

Anyone For Solitaire?

Mack is ready to deal in anyone who wants to play for National Poker Day, but remember that you'll need to ante up the tender liver of a newborn babe. I think I'll sit this one out; I'm really more of a "Go Fish" kind of person, anyway.

Daria, meanwhile, might be celebrating National Cat Lady Day. She did predict in Is It College Yet? that she would one day be "an old woman alone in a one room apartment filled with thirty year old newspapers and cats." Well, it's been over twenty years, but she still needs another ten to get her newspaper collection in order.

She Found a Career More Dignified Than Teaching Brittany and Kevin!

Mrs. Bennett has finally found a way to hold her students' attention, thanks to World Circus Day. However, even tightrope walkers and lion tamers won't make her economics lectures interesting.

Have you ever wanted to sleep upside-down and spread rabies? If so, then International Bat Appreciation Day is for you! Also, you might want to see a doctor about that rabies thing.

Does Jake know that today is also National Stress Awareness Day? If not, someone should ask him. I know he loves it when people ask him if he's stressed!

My Heart Will Go--Splash!

It may look like DeeDee, Mr. O'Neill, and Ms. Barch are observing Titanic Remembrance Day, but in reality they're about to re-enact one of the casualties of that tragic day. Poor DeeDee.

I hope Helen knows that today is Husband Appreciation Day, because it might be nice if she looked up from her work or her cell phone to at least acknowledge his existence. Unfortunately, it'll probably be while he's ranting at an invisible old man, so the moment won't be very sentimental.

Finally, let's wish Jane a happy World Art Day, but make it quick. She's in the middle of her latest masterpiece and doesn't want to be disturbed.

Go For the Triple Word Score!

Daria's making another winning move for Scrabble Day, but Jake and Helen really should have known better. You just don't play Scrabble against someone who spends most of their time with words--reading, writing, snarking, etc. There could only have been one possible outcome.

Perhaps they could take up a less challenging hobby, like International Plant Appreciation Day? I imagine any plants in the Morgendorffer house are plastic (I don't think any real ones would survive long), but there's always the option of planting a crutch and waiting for it to bloom!

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 13): "Daria and Veronica returned home in a good mood. 'I like those guys,' said Veronica."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (parts 61 and 62): "It was unreal, this just could not be happening, it was nothing but a nightmare!" (Part 62)

  • Meet The Superhero (Scenes no Daria fanfic Should Have: How did We survive?), by Meester_Lee (part 1): "It was the second day after their wagon train had successfully returned to the lowlands from the summits of the Lander Road. Despite the fact that the Trout Company still had hundreds of miles to go before they reached the Willamette Valley, Daria still felt pretty good about their wagon train’s accomplishment."

I Don't Want To Know Which One is the Bass

The three Js are short one member for Barbershop Quartet Day, but since all three of them are one crayon short of a box then I suppose it's perfectly fitting. I just hope they don't expect Quinn to be impressed; she's definitely more into the pop music scene.

Good news for Jamie, though--it's also National James Day! Not that Quinn will remember his name any better today than she does on any other day. Maybe he should write a barbershop song about it!

Will Winston Be Hiding Any Eggs?

Jake's looking more dignified than usual in honor of Winston Churchill Day, but hopefully he won't be called upon to defend England's shores from foreign armies. If you want someone who can drink beyond his limits as Churchill supposedly did, though, then Jake's your man!

If war and booze aren't your thing, how about chocolate bunnies and painted eggs? That's right, it's Easter Sunday! There are at least a couple dozen Easter-themed Daria fanfics and fanart pieces out there, and you can find most of them at the Sh33p's Fluff.

Fanfic Update!
  • Charlatan, by FictionAuthorofFiction (COMPLETE!): "Sometimes, Daria felt like she was a fake. She was supposed to be better than this, everyone expected her to be so cold and unfeeling. But she wasn't. She was supposed to care, but not?"

  • Convergence on Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "'What’s happening, Amiga?' Jane asked. 'The Doctor, again,' Daria answered."

  • Daria Ravenclaw: The Legend of Sporting Joe, by Meester_Lee (part 13): "Meanwhile Julia was learning about how the Aldretes and the other Magical families dealt with magic before they went off to school."

  • I can tell you— the telling gets old, by theAngstgirl (COMPLETE!): "'By the way, do you mind paying for this? I'm broke.' Daria says, Jane sighs but offers a grin."

  • Is It Adulthood Already?, by britabird (part 7): "Daria worked on her new short story idea, business was booming for Quinn and the J’s, both Tom and Jane managed to complete the school year’s worth of work unscathed, and Trent was a man of his word."

  • looking out for you, by tawog (COMPLETE!): "After Daria decided to stop romantically pursuing Tom after fighting over their six-month anniversary, citing their differences in personality, status, and the near-permanent wedge he drove between her and Jane as reasons, she found herself constantly overthinking."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by ladyevil (COMPLETE!): "The steak dinner Top had invited Upchuck out to wasn't going as well as he hoped."

Nature Abhors a Vacuum, and So Do I!

Looks like Helen didn't get the memo that today is No Housework Day, so she needs to put away the vacuum and relax. Helen, "relax" is the thing where you stop working and just enjoy yourself. It'll be difficult for you at first, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

Today is also the anniversary of both "This Year's Model" in 1997 and "I Loathe a Parade" in 2000. Both featured Quinn getting utterly humiliated, but the latter had return appearances of both Ted and Tad! What are the odds?

Take Me To Your Pizzeria!

Daria's ready for First Contact Day, although I'm sure she's much more interested in celebrating No Contact Day. I suppose that's what the ray-gun is for. "Alien love goddess" my ass!

If any aliens contact you, please invite them to join you for a slice of Chicago-style for Deep Dish Pizza Day! Although be careful; they may want to put weird alien toppings on it like space rocks or plutonium chunks or...ugh...pineapple.

Fanfic Update!
  • Close Encounters of the Ted Kind (The Ted Zone), by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'Settle down, young people!' Ms. Li said, unnecessarily, to a mostly apathetic Lawndale High auditorium."

  • Hometown Movies, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Quinn has unexpectedly found herself drawn into a conservative culture war. A Republican-led House Committee is trying to determine the potential harms of social media on America's youth." (Part 2) (Part 3)

  • Oh No No, by Val_Creative (COMPLETE!): "'DAAAAAARIAAAA!' Outside of Daria's bedroom, Quinn hollers, furiously stomping in. That boring brain of a sister won't get away with this—"

  • Pizazz, by FictionAuthorofFiction (COMPLETE!): "Despite what her teenage brain liked to tell her, Daria knew she wasn't exactly unique. There were thousands, if not millions, of people just like her in the world."

  • Star Trek: Lower Decks: An Aquatic Second Contact, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 4): "'I shall return to my ship,' Ma’ah announced. 'Understood,' Freeman said."

  • The Truth Comes to Daria and Quinn, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (COMPLETE!): "It was just another day at Lawndale when a terrible truth would come to Daria and Quinn."

Party Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Come on, Daria! Get into the spirit of World Party Day already! Sure, you're being forced to spend time around other people and listen to terrible music and watch awful dancing, but look on the bright side: you might come home with a bonus sock!

I suppose I might have better luck with Find a Rainbow Day than with getting Daria to enjoy herself. Who knows? Maybe there will be a freak hurricane and Kevvy will make a rainbow for the whole town!

Have a Fun and Foolish Day!

Mr. O'Neill thinks that, as Mr. T., he is pitying the fools on April Fool's Day. However, the rest of us know that the joke is on him, because he is the most foolish fool of them all!

Speaking of which, it was on this day sixteen years ago that all those objects came to life and took over our civilization. I mean, I assume that's what happened because Jane said so, and I'm not going to call her a liar.

Whether you celebrate today with pranks, pitying fools, or defending our way of life from the toaster, be sure to enjoy yourself because it's National Fun Day! Except for Daria, who has previously emphasized her anti-fun stance.

Fanfic Update!
  • Breaking Balmora, by welltemperedclavier (COMPLETE!): "Jeval had no idea what that meant. But Treads seemed to." (Part 15) (Epilogue)

  • Pregnant Prank, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Jim was sitting up in bed while Quinn was in the closet changing into her sleepwear."

  • Quinn's Code 16: The Geek's Expose, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 7): "The group arrived back at the Morgendorffers twelve hours after they had left. 'And so, we're back,' Quinn said dramatically. 'The day is almost over.'"
