Bollocks!

It's Guy Fawkes Night, and everyone's favorite anthropomorphized British holiday is feeling...well, at best indifferent and at worst pissed off. So, the same as usual.

I do applaud Guy Fawkes's willingness to get involved with his country's political system, but I don't recommend his methods. Instead, since today is Election Day in the United States, I encourage all of my fellow Americans to vote if you possibly can.

Once you've done your civic duty, you can enjoy that other beloved pastime of our country for American Football Day. I'm sure Kevin will, even if the situation isn't appropriate. I mean, he has to take those shoulder pads off occasionally, right?

Fanfic Update!
  • Spider Quinn 12 Rise of the Green Goblin, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 8): "Sandi came down to breakfast and saw that her brothers were watching Brittany talk at the Groundhog Day Festival. ‘I doubt she’s the Shadow,’ she thought."

  • When Tony Comes Marching Home, by wilddogjj (part 1): "Sandi, Quinn, Stacy and Nicole were gathered in one of the mansion's many sitting rooms having a discussion. While Sandi carried herself with a regal, commanding presence, the other three women looked uncomfortable."

Remember, Remember....

Guy Fawkes Day, or Bonfire Night as he's more commonly referred to, has a special holiday message for everyone! What? Why, yes, it is "Bollocks!" However could you possibly have guessed?

Back on this side of the Atlantic, Kevin will be celebrating American Football Day by either playing or watching his favorite game. In fact, he might try to do both at once! I'm sure it won't end in a spectacular failure that causes injury to Kevin and amusement to everyone else.

Finally, it's National Redhead Day and we should all wish a happy day to Daria's most well-known redhead...Upchuck! Or maybe Artie! No? Hmm. Ms. Defoe? Oh, what about Jeffy? I suppose Penny counts....

Bollocks to Red Hair!

Quinn is admiring her very favorite redhead for National Love Your Red Hair Day, and being admired right back. I love those storybook romances, don't you?

Today is also Guy Fawkes Night, and interestingly, it turns out Guy Fawkes had red (or at least reddish-brown) hair! I'm pretty sure that's where any similarity between him and Quinn ends, though.

Fanfic Update!
  • Danny Morgendorffer, by st91 (parts 76 and 77): "Daniel hadn't expected to be welcomed with open arms, but he hadn't expected all that hostility to be there either." (Part 77)

  • Daria Cuckoos Egg, by meesterlee (part 6): "Quinn walked into the living room to find Renee was watching television. It was one of the Spanish-language channels again."

  • Dawson's Creek - Alternate Season 5 + Daria, by Son_of_a_Preacherman (part 1): "Melody Powers watched his chest rise and fall as he slept, and smiled."

  • Equestria Hurls, by Erin M (parts 1 and 2): "'This was NOT how I expected to be spending graduation!' Rarity cried as she threw her hands up, generating a large hexagonal crystal shield in front of her." (Part 2)

  • A Visit From The Goon Squad, by Two-Eyed Charlie (part 2): "It turned out that Carter’s plan was fool-proof. Or at least it was scary enough that MNC Financial actually agreed to it without much of a fight."

Bollocks!

Guy Fawkes Day doesn't seem very happy that today's his day, but I suppose if you represented a holiday based on something that didn't happen then I suppose you'd be less than enthusiastic as well. Celebrate with some overused English stereotypes. Pip-pip and cheeri-o!

Fanfic Update!
  • An Annoying Truth (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (COMPLETE!): "Jake has just declared his intention to tell Kevin the truth about Daryl and Brittany. Quinn is now trying to talk him out of it. 'Dad,' she said, 'Think about what you're doing.'"

  • Freakin' Friends Forever, by Princess_Pasta (part 7): "Jane to Daria Are you ready to deck the halls for the ho-ho-holidays? I'm not!"

  • On The Road, by elainefr (part 50): "'Buy me a drink?' Jesse gave a cursory glance at the woman that had come to stand beside him and had to do a double take. He had been drinking- a lot and he had wanted to continue until he forgot everything......that is until now."

  • Powerpuff Girls, by peapotmaster (part 1): "A black haired girl in a green outfit lied on the ground, as she turned to see her town being attacked by one who they and her sisters trusted."

  • Questions of Reality, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "The city of Bellington Vale was quiet, it being just before dawn. However, some events were to occur to disturb the peace. Indeed, a horrific discovery was made in Victoria Park as the sun began to peek above the horizon."

Bollocks!

It's time to gather some fireworks and light the bonfire for Guy Fawkes Day, better known as Bonfire Night. You could celebrate by playing in a hiphop-punk-electronica band or by visiting Falstaff's Kidney Pies. I don't recommend trying to blow up Parliament, though. That's for tossers.

Fanfic Update!
  • All Hallows' Eve (Pasta's Never-ending Ideas Thread!), by Princess_Pasta (part 1): "'What in the hell are you thinking?' 'Relax, it's Halloween. We can stand to have a little fun'. 'If Mom and Dad-' Elsie Sloane let out an exasperated sigh before turning away from her vanity mirror to level her older brother with a steely glare."

  • Cynic and a Six-String, by fringeperson (part 38): "Fall, the first day back at Lawndale High for the new scholastic year, but you wouldn't know by the mercury readings. It was damn hot out."

  • Friends and More: a story about Mack, by 11tee (part 1): "Michael "Mack" Mackenzie sat at his table staring at the pizza. Only two slices were missing after half an hour. He occasionally looked out the window from his seat. He always sat in this seat- it afforded a good view of the passers-by coming to the Pizzeria."

  • Hiding in Plain Sight, by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "'C'mon, work those legs! Work 'em! Work 'em!' The crowd of people, at least a dozen of whom were on their first attempt to lose pounds now that New Year's Eve was over and they were already regretting their resolutions."

  • The Many Doctors – Chapter 40, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "It had been many days, possibly a week, since the Doctor and his companions had met the Eleventh incarnation of the Doctor and Clara Oswald at Coal Hill School. '...And we have now left the Ood Sphere. We're on the right track,' the Doctor said."

  • Reclamation, by SacredDust (parts 5 and 6): "Taking classes at Fielding Academy was one thing. Belonging to it was another. Elaine Swinton was interested only in the ones who belonged. The boarders, the participators, those who were fully committed--she was just fine with them, as long as they stayed out of her way." (Part 6)

  • A.R.C Chapter 8 Sighted by a condor, by ST91 (part 1): "That day during the lunch break the topic of discussion was the imminent arrival in the school of two talent scouts from Amazon Models. 'You know, it is in situations like this I regret that we do not have the same classes.' said Jane."

  • Second Chances, by Lady Evil (part 1): "'You can just drop me off here.' Jane told Trent as they came to the shopping center. 'Fine.' sighed Trent, parking his Plymouth. 'Can you get a ride back? I'm gonna be busy all day trying to find a new bassist.'"

  • Stargate Delicately Balanced Daria Chapter Two, by Meester_Lee (part 3): "Daria's reappearance hadn't gone unnoticed at the Hardin residence, even if Cal was on suspension. Cal learned first; he still had friends at Highland High, even after Thursday night."

Remember, Remember....

Guy Fawkes Day has an important announcement to make, which is that today is Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night or whatever you'd like to call it. Guy Fawkes Day just calls it "Bollocks," just like everything else.

Fanfic Update!
  • Invader Quinn, by Anguirus1955 (parts 1 and 2): "Inside the cockpit of a small, purple ship, spherical in shape with four little engines or nasals attached to each corner, a set of fuscha eyes looked over a small screen with instructions. A green hand covered by black gloves moved forward and pressed a button on the control console." (Part 2)

  • Lawndale 2021, by Anguirus1955 (part 20): "Daria and Jane slowly made their way to the bridge after school. 'So, I've just been thinking about it, and I was hoping to maybe join White Debbie and paint some of the dolphins or something,' Jane said."

  • Perception, by Princess_Pasta (part 2): "'Have you seen Kevin? I mean, I know you've seen him but what is up with that? I'm thinking Invasion of the Bodysnatchers? Or, he's been replaced by a clone; a smarter more elite version of himself that's here to disrupt the delicate balance of our world.'"

  • The Thompson Kids (A different Type of Writing Challenge), by Anguirus1955 (COMPLETE!): "Jodie Landon looked at the e-mail on her computer screen with a raised eyebrow."

Remember, Remember....

Today is Bonfire Night, to which Guy Fawkes Day would say "Bollocks!" Then again, that's his response to everything. To those who celebrate the day, have fun!

Bollocks!

Today is Guy Fawkes Night! It commemorates the day Guy Fawkes did not blow up the House of Lords, which seems unfair. I didn't blow up the House of Lords, either, but no one named any holiays after me! Ah, well. Celebrate the day with lots of fireworks or, if that's not your thing, by playing in a hiphop-punk-electronica band. Your choice.

This is also the birthday of Lynn Cullen, the controversial character from The Look Alike Series. Love her or hate her, you can't deny that the series had an impact on fandom.

Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November....

Today is Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night. The holiday, celebrated mostly in Great Britain, centers around the failed attempt to blow up the House of Lords. As far as I can tell, it now serves as an excuse to set off explosions. Kind of like Independence Day in the U.S., only classier.

More importantly, though, the holiday gave us the character of Guy Fawkes Day from "Depth Takes a Holiday." I think I speak for us all when I quote his immortal words--okay, word--of wisdom: "Bollocks!"

Today is also the birthday of Lynn Cullen, the controversial main character of Canadibrit's "The Look-Alike Series."

So, whether you enjoy the day by starting a bonfire, setting off fireworks, or watching "Depth Takes a Holiday," please remember to be careful and try not to blow up any government buildings.

Fanfic update coming soon, pinky swear!

Happy Birthday, Lynn Cullen!

Canadibrit's Lynn Cullen is XX years old today! (Not sure what year she was born in.) The date was announced, among other places, here. Pictures? Lots of 'em here.

This also happens to be the day of Bonfire Night, incorrectly known in the States as Guy Fawkes Day but sometimes called Guy Fawkes Night in England, according to Wikipedia. Guy Fawkes Day was one of the Holiday Island High characters from "Depth Takes a Holiday," of course. The original Guy Fawkes was arrested and fined for unlawful use of the word "Bollocks!" A Daria fanfic was written making use of this theme ("Remember, Remember"). There's also the West Country Carnival to attend, lots of fireworks and fun, do it to it. (Please be careful with the explosives, of course.)

Do you think there's something to having Lynn Cullen's birthday on Guy Fawkes Night? Hmmm.

More eventually.

Okay, back again. Sometimes soon I'd like to post my long list of the better fanfic that I've seen from 2008, plus a separate list of unfinished fanfic that I'd love to see finished (excluding stories that aren't going to be finished at all, according to the authors). More on that later. Trying to figure out what to do next.

Art Should Not Suck

One hundred thirty-eight years ago this day, New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art ("The Met") was founded. It is considered by some to be infinitely superior to other venues, such as the County Museum of Modern Art (COMMA) in Lawndale.

Today is also the birthday of Guy Fawkes, or at least it was 438 years ago. (Guy Fawkes Day is November 5th.) The holiday itself is doing tolerably well on Holiday Island as the lead singer for a high-school band. Also attending Holiday Island High School are Laotian New Year's Day, Thai New Year's Day, and Cambodian New Year's Day (all celebrated today), and a bunch of saints' days no one can keep track of.

SIDE NOTE: My home computer has somehow magically picked up one of those toolkits . . . no, wrong, I meant rootkits, which means I have to either call in a Catholic priest to exorcise my hard drive while it vomits pea soup all over the Internet, or else throw gasoline on my computer and burn it. I will probably take the middle road, which will be to put my computer in the middle of the road and let it be hit by a bus. More news later as things develop. Or not.
