Just Wait Until He Finds Out You Can Have Pizza with the Works AND Anchovies!

Ted is enjoying another new experience by trying a pizza with many toppings in honor of National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day, and I suppose next he'll try pizza with anchovies. I'm sure neither pizza will be able to hold a candle to the wonder that is gum, however.

Let's wish a happy birthday to the sculptor Auguste Rodin, who was born on this day in 1840. This will be welcome news to Jane, who was known to dabble in sculpting herself, but also a good opportunity to check out Steve Taylor's jockey statue to see if it's a genuine Rodin or a forgery.

Today is also the anniversary of Grace Kelly's birth in 1929, which is notable to fandom in that Jane compared Quinn to the late actress/princess in "The Teachings of Don Jake": "Lemme get this straight. You, Jake, Helen, and Princess Grace are going camping? Like in the woods camping?"

Fanfic Update!
  • Heavenly Wine and Roses, by riotsquirrrl (part 11): "'This had better be worth it,' Daria says as she trudges along the nature path behind Jane. The other girl looks over her shoulder, saying 'C’mon, we’re almost there!'"

  • Help Wanted! Rodent Problem!, by Doggieboy (COMPLETE!): "I don't know where to begin, and I'm not sure what to do. Nothing I have ever done has prepared me for this. Here goes. We have a rodent problem."

  • Q's Visitor, by wilddogjj (parts 1 and 2): "Stacy Ruttheimer (nee Rowe) was sitting at the kitchen table having an angry conversation over the phone." (Part 2)

  • Strange Days in Lawndale, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "It was an ordinary day in Lawndale. Daria Morgendorffer was resting in her room. But suddenly her sister, Quinn, burst into the room in a hurry."

  • Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Daria's Stolen Notebook), by Azul (COMPLETE!): "Every day is the same connotation. Tension rips and molars brux and there is pain on redux coated in something important and not like Alzheimer's fog over your son's face."

I Hope Pizza Prince Has Enough of "the Works"!

Looks like most of Lawndale has shown up for National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day, which is one of the most specific holidays I have ever seen. Go ahead and pile up those toppings, and my sincere apologies to those of you out there who like anchovies on their pizza. All three of you.

This is also the anniversary of Auguste Rodin's birth in 1840, something that artist Jane would probably appreciate. Even if she has her doubts about whether or not that Lawn Jockey with Lantern is an original or a forgery.

Fanfic Update!
  • Are We the Fools for Being Surprised?, by Pre-Animation Man (COMPLETE!): "College is exactly what Daria imagined it would be, while managing to be completely and utterly different."

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (parts 21 and 22): "Jake came home a couple of hours later. Helen motioned for him to sit down." (Part 22)

  • Everyone's Favourite Disease, by SPEEDCOREIDOLATER (COMPLETE!): "Sunday. 12:30PM. So marks my weekly visit to the retirement home."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 47): "It was just as cold, scary and dark as it had always been at the Level Three containment cells of Area Seventeen."

  • How Could I Forget, by Pre-Animation Man (COMPLETE!): "They laid side-by-side on Jane's bed, the slow, steady beat of Moby pouring out of the speakers mounted on either side of Jane's bedroom wall."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have), by wacokid (COMPLETE!): "At Lawndale High, a very, very serious meeting was taking place in the principal's office. An ... incident had occurred in the girl's gym shower room, and Janet Barch was demanding action be taken."

Some Holiday Inventor REALLY Hated Anchovies!

Daria and Tom would be celebrating National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day, except that from the looks of it their pizza has everything except cheese. Also, there's that whole Daria-breaking-Tom's-heart-into-a-million-pieces thing.

Today is also the anniversary of the birth of Auguste Rodin in 1840. Sadly, it turned out that Daria was wrong and Steve Taylor's lawn jockey statue was not an original Rodin but instead a malicious forgery.

Pizza and Books? Yes Please!

Ted's having a lovely National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day, but he's clearly stunned to find out that some people actually put fish on pizza. Wait until he hears about the pineapple controversy.

Today is also Young Readers Day, and while Daria fandom is more young at heart than physically youthful, I know we have more than the usual share of readers. Crack open a book and have some milk and cookies, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • Cancerous Like Me, by Lady Evil (part 7): "'Jesse, you CANNOT wear that!' Jane stated. 'Why?' he asked. 'Because.... It's indecent!' Jane couldn't believe he didn't realize that. Oh wait, she could."

  • The Hallowed Halls of Fielding, by Roentgen (parts S4 - S7): "'It is time to pour the holy libation!' Larry 'Gambler' Harris and Francis 'Fitz' Pennington III were entrusted with the sacred oils, in this case a mixture of baby oil and canola." (Part S5) (Part S6) (Part S7)

  • Market Value (Life After Thirty), by WildDogJJ (part 1): "It's Thanksgiving and Jim and Kevin are standing in the driveway enjoying the cool November air. 'I love Thanksgiving,' said Kevin, 'You get to, like, totally stuff your face then burp and poop all you want. It's awesome.'"

  • Nun Too Holy, by 90eyes (COMPLETE!): "Jake couldn't help but chuckle at what he was seeing. Quinn of all people had started walking around, completely dressed up in a nun's habit, for some reason."

  • RelaTed (The Ted Zone), by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "Ted let the front door shut behind him as he walked out of the house. The fresh air felt nice and the setting sun was lovely. Even better, from outside he couldn't hear the agonized groaning of his father."

You Can Still Have an Extra Quart of Grease, Though!

Don't ask me how Daria and Tom can possibly look so sad when they've got pizza on National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day. Maybe they just really, really like anchovies? And here Daria thought they didn't have enough in common. Shows how much she knows.

Today is also the anniversary of artist Auguste Rodin's birth in 1840. Rodin is probably best known for his sculpture The Thinker. He is slightly less well known as the sculptor of Steve Taylor's lawn jockey statue.

Fanfic Update!
  • Daria of Asgard, by Meester_Lee (part 6): "Phil Coulson thought about his next move. His agents had already formed a cordon around the perimeter of the event, whatever it was, and SHIELD scientists and technicians were now beginning to their examination of the event site to see just what the Hell had happened."

  • Drive Safely (Daria and the Gang Thread II), by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "After resolving the issue of having her best friend in a jail cell (with her sister shadowing her to boot), Daria was glad to get the fuck out of Dodge and drive back home."

  • The Heart of the Griffin, by WildDogJJ (parts 7 - 9): "Sandi Griffin was jumpy and on edge. After hearing the tapes of her mother and John Mangano having an affair and plotting her own murder she was livid. It was the ultimate betrayal." (Part 8) (Part 9)

  • The Move, by dmsfanman (part 4): "'Am I getting too old for this?' Daria asked. Tom responded, 'Too old for what?' 'Sugar Tarts for breakfast,' Daria replied in total deadpan while looking at the frosted toaster pastries sitting in front of her."

  • Tales of Lawndale: Daria and The Demon, by Eduard Tubin (part 1): "'What are you?' Jane Lane turned on her bedroom light and saw a small boy watching her television. 'What are you doing here?'"

  • Unnamed story (LLH - Short Entries), by Roentgen and Brother Grimace (parts 58 - 60): "'I landed in Puerto Rico that morning on a private plane provided by Dawn Hall. Kyle Armalin had gotten in touch with Dawn Hall - how he did that, I'll never understand - and demanded that the Legion have a PR representative in Puerto Rico.'" (Part 59) (Part 60 by Brother Grimace)

Do Anchovies Go Well with Processed Cheese?

Ted's shocked because his pizza is missing the anchovies, but that's okay because it's National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day. I suppose if you really, really want to have anchovies on your pizza, then go ahead. I won't tell. Just make sure you brush your teeth afterward, okay?

Fanfic Update!
  • "Aw Mama...Can This Really Be The End?", by Scissors MacGillicutty (parts 21 and 22): "'You wanna what, Zig?!?!' Nicky Sobotka roared, and slammed the barrier that separated him from his cousin with the phone receiver." (Part 22)

  • Character defining moments, by Walter Kovacs (COMPLETE!): "Days like these made Charles Rodriguez, the caseworker handling this file wish he had called in sick two weeks ago when his stomach felt slightly gimpy from last night's dinner."

  • How Jodie Landon Became a Woman of Independent Means (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: The Madness Sets In), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Michelle was at the counter, pouring a cup of coffee from a steaming carafe. She turned to her daughter, smiling mischievously, and held out the mug of hot liquid."

  • One Way to Do It, by Tippedover (COMPLETE!): "Stacy sat in the driver’s seat of her fathers Crown Victoria, and tried to stay calm. She could feel the sweat starting to pop up to the surface (Tiffany: Staaacccyyy! Ewwwwww!) as she stretched the seat belt across her chest and lap."

  • The Phantom of the Library, by neonhomer (part 6): "The home of the Min's was a modest, two-story structure with a perfectly manicured lawn and an in-ground pool in the backyard. Matt could count the number of times he'd been there on one hand."

  • Unnamed story (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: The Madness Sets In), by Tuisto (COMPLETE!): "The sun had just finished setting over Lawndale as Helen Morgendorffer walked the empty halls of her Law Firms offices, passing by empty room after empty room, until she reached her corner office. She was hoping she'd be able to get some motions finished and be home before 10:00 this time..."

  • West End Girls (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: The Madness Sets In), by LongSnakeMoan (COMPLETE!): "She was too cold. He was too rough. They would destroy each other soon enough if one of them didn't have the courage to break it off and she had never lacked for courage. So she broke first. 'Over. We're over.'"

  • What it Takes (Scenes No Daria Fan-Fic Should Have: The Madness Sets In), by Vukodlak (COMPLETE!): "Daria entered the bathroom and turned on the shower but she didn't get in right away. She stared at herself in the mirror with utter disgust."

Pizza and Art...Can't Beat That Combination!

Today is National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day, and Daria and Tom are miserable because they just found anchovies on their pizza. Poor kids.

Sculptor Auguste Rodin, who may or may not be the creator of Steve Taylor's lawn jockey statue, was born on this day in 1840. For extra fandom fun, read The Angst Guy's Forgotten But Not Gone to see how else Rodin may be connected with Lawndale.

Pizza and Art...It's Jane Lane's Perfect Combination!

Today is National Pizza with Everything (except Anchovies) Day! Pull up a slice at the Pizza Prince, but watch out for that extra quart of grease they added to the recipe. The Fashion Club will probably have their usual Pizza with Nothing (except Cheese) special.

Happy birthday to the late sculptor Auguste Rodin, born on this day in 1840. Rodin is known for three things related to Daria fandom. First, Daria speculates to Jane whether or not Steve Taylor's Lawn Jockey with Lantern is the original Rodin or a forgery in the episode "Art Burn." Also, one of Rodin's most famous works, The Thinker, appears to be the figure on Daria's Dian Fossey Award for Dazzling Academic Achievement in the Face of Near-Total Misanthropy trophy. Finally, the sculptor's legacy plays an important role in The Angst Guy's fanfic Forgotten But Not Gone.

A Pizza Holiday for Daria Fandom!

It's National Pizza with Everything (except Anchovies) Day! Trufen of Our Awesome Heroine, Jane Lane, you know what to do. Even Daria would approve.

One hundred sixty-nine years ago, the greatest sculptor of the modern age, Auguste Rodin, was born. One of his most famous works was parodied in the final Daria movie, Is It College Yet? (It was the gorilla statue Daria was given as an award, posed in the manner of The Thinker.) Rodin has something to do with a certain fanfic, too. Great role model for Jane. For art, I mean, not for his personal life, which was whacked out.

Princess Grace of Monaco was also born this day in history, 80 years ago, but she is mentioned here only because her birthday appears on the Sick Sad Life Planner DVD with a relevant quote from Brittany, who is clearly not well versed in royalty issues.

NuuuZ!
  • Pinhead has posted two quite interesting views of Daria, if she had continued to wear the clothing she did while living in Highland (a la Beavis and Butt-head). Weird. Kinda makes you think. The black-and-red outfit works better than the yellow one, I must admit, but the green-and-black was better. Daria's an "Autumn" and pulls off the latter very well.
  • The great and wonderful Anne D. Bernstein has more artwork to display.
Stay tooned 4 moar. Still early yet.

National Pizza with Everything (Except Anchovies) Day!

You've got to wonder about how some of these holidays got started. Today is National Pizza with Everything (Except Anchovies) Day. Only one way to celebrate that.

Our mascot for today is, predictably, Artie, shown here the moment he appears in "A Tree Grows in Lawndale," working at Pizza King. He had three speaking walk-ons in the series.
