They're Just Nuts About...Well, They're Just Nuts

Daria and Jane are taking National Nut Day awfully far, but hopefully they're being paid well for their humiliation. Let's just pray for Daria's sake that Trent doesn't experience a peanut brittle craving and head their way.

I suppose Daria would much rather be reading or even studying, though, especially because today is Smart is Cool Day! I guess the popular kids at Lawndale High School didn't get that particular memo, but Daria will get the last laugh someday. Except that she doesn't laugh.

It's possible that the late Timothy Leary, born on this day in 1920, would have disagreed, however. His famous advice to "Turn on, tune in, drop out" suggests that traditional education wasn't his preferred goal.

They're Just Nuts about Mothers In Law!

It seems It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty World has stepped up its marketing campaign for National Nut Day and Daria has dragged Jane in to join her in the misery. And she thought having to smile was bad!

Still, it beats being at home, especially if Grandma Ruth has dropped in for a Mother-In-Law Day's visit. Throw in the never-seen but always-terrible Grandma Barksdale and you'll have a real catastrophe on your hands.

I'm sure the Yeagers will be happy to know that Timothy Leary was born on this day in 1920, so I hope they give whichever number dog they're up to some extra pats to celebrate. Any idea on how things are coming along with that real Timothy Leary replacement?

Fanfic Update!
  • Avatar: The Drama Of Daria, by psychotol (part 2): "Jinora and Asami emerged out of the studio and turned their phones back on as they headed for the stairwell, and Asami read a text and commented 'Ugh.'"

  • Daria on the Trail, by meesterlee (part 54): "An axle broke on one of the Johnson Company’s wagons the next day. We and the Johnson Company were still traveling together, so Captain Trout ordered our wagons to come to a stop while Mr. Ruffin and his friends set about replacing their broken axle."

  • Her Last Words, by Sheila Wisz Ellayn (part 74): "Anna's tree drawings were selling fair and square so far, her work had indeed attracted a lot of attention and yet her true success of that day at the Art Fair was something very different, something that she had not even imagined that would happen..."

  • Kevin, Portrait of a QB, by wilddogjj (COMPLETE!): "Brittany was carrying a hamper full of dirty laundry as she made her way to the basement. She opened the door and went down the stairs. What she saw down there made her drop the laundry and gasp in shock."

"Munch the nutty, nutty?"

Daria says that you are all welcome to celebrate National Nut Day, but if you think she's going to smile for you then you're nuts. Jake will, of course, be indulging in cashews--the CEOs of nuts!

Today is also the anniversary of the birth of Timothy Leary in 1920. I'm not sure where "they" are on replacing him, but I'll have to check with Coyote on that.

Munch the Nutty Nutty?

I think Daria and Jane should scale back their National Nut Day celebrations a little. They're getting just a tiny bit carried away. Of course, if Trent sees them then his brain really will get hijacked by peanuts.

Then again, it's possible that this is just an LSD-induced hallucination, which would be appropriate because today is the anniversary of Timothy Leary's birth in 1920. I have no idea how many more Learys the Yeagers have gone through by now, but I'm convinced that any amount is too many.

Turn On, Tune In, Eat Some Nuts!

Happy National Nut Day! You can celebrate by eating some of your favorite legumes, like Jake here, or rub some pistachio dye on Quinn's neck and watch the fun! If you don't have any nuts, just drop by It's a Nutty, Nutty, Nutty World and Daria will be happy (or not) to help you.

If that's not interesting enough for you, you could also celebrate the anniversary of Coyote and Willow's dog's namesake Timothy Leary's birth on this day in 1920. Celebrate by...doing something totally legal, right?

Still Working on that Replacement

Psychologist and author Timothy Leary, known for his experiments with LSD, was born on this day in 1920. The Yeagers' dog Leary was named for him, although it's doubtful that Leary I, II, or III did any LSD experiments themselves. They probably stuck with marijuana.

Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out...and Sit Up!

Today is the anniversary of Timothy Leary's birth in 1920. Most people know Leary as the psychologist who advocated for the use of psychedelic drugs. Not as many people know Leary as the Yeagers' dog--one of several, apparently.

This is also National Nut Day! We're just nuts about nuts. Crunch nuts with your lunch. Buy them by the bunch. Send them to friends far away to munch. But don't forget to smile!

Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut...

If I told you today was both National Nut Day and the 88th anniversary of the birth of LSD advocate Dr. Timothy Leary (for whom the Yeagers' German shepherds were named), you would probably believe me, and that's good because it's true. You can celebrate National Nut Day by clicking here and getting some ideas, but frankly it's okay with me if you only pet a dog for Dr. Leary's birthday and not, you know, take drugs or stuff. Dr. Leary is buried in Earth orbit. Seriously. Anyone remember the Moody Blues' song about him? Anyone remember Dr. Leary talking with dolphins, or trying to? They don't talk much. Oh, and superstar Jeff ("Must Go Faster!") Goldblum is 56 today, being one of my favorite actors up there with Will Smith.

More stuff soon. Must go faster.
