So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, I'm outta here!
Hey there, blog readers! I'm sure you've been following my fill-in updates with bated (which beats baited) breath, but I'm afraid it's my turn for a hiatus. My husband and I are going on vacation starting tomorrow, and both the hotel and ship we'll be staying at/on insist on charging for internet access. Screw that, am I right?
Okay, yes, I'm cheap. But, hey, it's my vacation and I'll fail to update this blog if I want to! But before I go, how about one more fanfic update?
Anthony DeMartino Just Wants To Have Fun, by Smijey (part 3): "Mr. DeMartino remembered it all. The complete humiliation. The forging of the dentures. The freak radio transmission he had received on them in class the next day. And then, the blood..."
Daria/Dorian Ch.9 - Failure Is A Good Thing, by LadieT (parts 2 and 3): "As the last seminar ended, Mr. O'Neill almost leapt out of his chair. He felt as though his role as an educator had been given new meaning. He rejoined the others in the main hall of the convention center. He couldn't wait to get back to school. He had an idea of what he wanted his next class project to be." (Part 3)
The fiercest battles lie within, by VPrad (part 13): "They both remained silent, looking at each other again. They could feel in the other person’s eyes the vulnerability of the lonely soul that needs someone else to feel complete."
Go on Living, by Jim North (COMPLETE!): "Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm the Demon Barber of Fleet Street during this ritual, but I refrain this time since Paul is in the room and it bothers him. Not because he has anything against Sweeny Todd in particular or even maniacal laughter in general, I don't think, but simply because it startles him to see my features so expressive and animated." (Part 4) (Part 5)
God Save The Esteem Ep8: Eff Christmas, by Charles RB (parts 2 and 3): "The Fashion Club, as one entity, ran away. Ever since they’d created rumours that they were sexually easy, this had been happening. They were starting to think that maybe, just maybe, they shouldn’t have attempted that tactic. (But then they remembered they were becoming a bit less popular before and that strengthened their resolve)" (Part 3)
The James Lane Chronicles Ch 2, by InvisibleDan (part 2): "Daria sighed again. At this rate her lungs would collapse from all the stupid questions she had to answer."
Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 14): "Daria's birthday was a week after school ended. Jane, Quinn and Trent wanted to make her a birthday cake instead of buying one. Helen arrived home early to find the kitchen covered in cake batter while Jake and the three 'chefs' were trying to clean it up."
A Nightmare in Lawndale (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by peapotmaster (Preview): "For years, I've been a history teacher to a bunch of idiot BRATS. But no ONE knows that I'm the Lawndale SLASHER."
Road Trip: Journey's End - Journey's Beginning, by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "Both Jane and Daria knew that Connie was poor, very poor. They were both well versed in the life of poverty. They knew it when they saw it. Connie's luggage was an old duffle bag and a pair of battered cardboard boxes. A covert glance at the luggage tag and box labels indicated that Connie had taken the bus to Boston. From Louisiana."
Unnamed story (Iron Chef: Mary Sue), by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "She knew what she had to do. She knew it was the only thing she could do. She knew how she had to do it."
Unnamed Story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Ouch Time), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Daria was speechless and, pale and sweating, Jane thrust the box at her friend. 'S'for you,' she muttered, swaying on the verge of collapse."
Unnamed Story (Write-Off Challenge), by Shull Bitter (COMPLETE!): "'I got an A on a test today!' Quinn announced over lasagna."
Welcome to the Dollhouse, by Annika (part 1): "Trust is not a thing she gives lightly, not in this sense – she can count on one hand the people she really trusts in this world, and removing Trent, or any of them, from that list would hurt more than she cares to admit."
X-ed Out, by Erin Mills (part 1): "Her face curled up into an expression of unbridled rage. HE wanted to LEAVE. Leave HER. For WHAT? Some FLOOZY he met in the bar while SHE was up on stage pouring out her SOUL to him?! Oh, no. THAT wasn't going to happen. Not to HER. Not AGAIN!"
Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (part 11): "Quinn dropped by Mitch’s room on time. Guys never understood the prospect of being fashionably late. Normally, Quinn would just let them sweat it out a bit, but she had a bet riding tonight: Her plans revolved around this, and she was going to make sure it was done properly."
Finally, LSauchelli is developing a webapp version of the PPMB and would like feedback.
And there's me signing off. I leave this blog in the capable hands of my colleagues, who will hopefully not make fun of me too much behind my back while I'm gone. Cheers!

And now...
New Fanfic!
Chapter 2: The Attack of MonsterX (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by OverlordMikey: "Jane ran down the street with a strange girl with flowing blonde in a red leotard and a white frilly cloak. Her head was topped with a big red bow. On her back was a pair of red bat wings and she held a staff tight in her hands."
Daria/Dorian Ch.9 - Failure Is A Good Thing, by LadieT (part 1): "Amy turned to face Jane, who was curled up with her arms wrapped around her knees. Sitting down next to the younger girl, Amy placed her hands gently on Jane's shoulder. Jane leaned against Amy and began to calm down. Amy decided to break the silence."
The fiercest battles lie within, by VPrad (part 12): "From the very moment she arrived to that artists’ colony she knew she wouldn’t fit in there either. She had gone from being surrounded by idiots obsessed with sports and appearance to being surrounded by pretentious and pompous idiots who were even more irritating. And this time Daria wasn’t there to back her up."
Go on Living, by Jim North (parts 1 and 2): "After snapping on a pair of sterile gloves and pulling the filter up over my mouth and nose, I check for a pulse in a few different areas, getting no response. Shining a light into the eyes gets the same, as does a quick breath check. Along with the more obvious signs, this is more than enough for me to declare my first stiff of the day deceased as the proverbial doornail." (Part 2)
God Save The Esteem Ep8: Eff Christmas, by Charles RB (part 1): "'SATAN! We’re worshipping SATAN! Because Satan has the things that we adore! SATAN! We’re worshipping SATAN! Because Satan keeps us stocked with drugs and whores!'"
Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 13): "'Santa came Jane! Santa came!' Quinn began shaking Daria until she was greeted by two auburn eyes struggling to open. 'Come on, Daria! Santa came!'"
Lawndale and Sandi Griffin’s Genie, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 3): "'Events are going to get out of control, regardless of what you do, Sandi. That is what always happens,' Jean said."
Me vs Maradona vs Elvis, by VPrad (COMPLETE!): "She is there and she probably won’t remember anything about this night. He knows that what he’s about to do is wrong, but that won’t stop it from happening."
Road Trip, by Chris Tucker (part 3 - 5): "The SUV now packed with Jane's belongings, the trip to New England could begin. 'Um, Dad?' 'Yes?' 'You're going the wrong way.'" (Part 4) (Part 5)
Tom's Overkill, by ticknart (COMPLETE!): "She moved, rubbed her cheek into the pillow. Some hair fell down in front of her face. He reached out to brush it back. Before his fingers touched her silky, auburn hair, she wasn't there anymore."
Two Body Problem, by RLobinske (part 4): "'I can't believe it,' he said when he saw a new job announcement. 'A full tenure-track position outside New Orleans. I can't wait to introduce Amy to some real Cajun cooking down in the Quarter. I can't believe it. It's perfect.'"
The Vision of the Burning Cities, by jtranser: "'And so, with an artist's touch to flesh its armature of madness, a furtive vision stepped out of a brown grimy cigarette smoked beer hall fog. In time, it morphed into an intricately woven reality of pure destruction that ended with people turning into shadows of burning light.'"
Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (part 10): "'I have depth! I deep myself!' Quinn replied, only understanding after the fact that such a thing made no sense."
Saturday, September 25, 2010
Oh, yeah? Censor this!
Jane: Run down the list of causes you volunteered for again?
Daria: I protested that book burning last year.
Jane: You yelled at the TV screen.
Daria: Hey, if more people spoke up--
--"The Old and the Beautiful"
This week, September 25th through October 2nd, is Banned Books Week. How will you celebrate? You could yell at the TV, like our esteemed heroine. You could read one or more books from one of the American Library Association's Frequently Challenged Books lists. You could even hold a book-burner burning. For legal reasons, I of course cannot endorse that last one, but if you choose to do so, remember to bring marshmallows.
And now, here's the fanfiction update from the PPMB:
The Adventure of the Tilted Windmill, by Erin Mills (part 1): "Daria gave me a serious look. 'Leopard Forest, the professional golfer, was found over there an hour ago. Someone apparently tied the poor bastard to the sixteenth hole windmill and slashed the hell out of him.'"
Daria/Dorian 8: Love Rescue Me, by LadieT (COMPLETE!): "Dorian entered the room and felt his feet plant into place. Jane was wearing the dress Dorian had bought her for Christmas. As he came out of his momentary stupor, Dorian slowly made his way to where Jane was waiting. Carefully zipping up the dress, Dorian looked into the mirror that Jane was standing in front of. Staring at Dorian's reflection, Jane could see the smile on his face."
The fiercest battles lie within, by VPrad (part 11): "Those words touched Daria deep. Certainly, that girl wasn’t the Quinn that had tormented her during her childhood and part of her adolescence. She could finally say she had a sister, in the fullest and most comforting sense."
Flynn at 1111 Glen Oak (Crossovers Still Crossing Over), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Candace Flynn looked at the red brick house in trepidation. Although she lived in Danville, 5 miles away across the Mississippi in Minnesota, she went to Lawndale High School. As such she knew the reputations of the two teens that lived at this house. She sighed. She had to do this! She shuddered as she thought of the contraption that Phineas and Ferb would be building and using in her absence!"
God Save The Esteem Ep7: I Am A Scientist, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "'Do you even own a pair of black high heels?' asked Jane. 'At least they aren’t saying I own knee high leather boots.' Tom winced. 'Well, actually...'" (Part 3) (Part 4)
The James Lane Chronicles Ch 2, by InvisibleDan (part 1): "Daria was different. She wasn't like the other girls at Lawndale High. He had gotten past his first impression of her and knew that some lucky guy would get to be her boyfriend. It just wasn't going to be him."
Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 12): "Trent walked out onto the stage to see his family, front and center, waving at him. He plugged in his Martin acoustic and began playing. He closed his eyes while his fingers moved across the fret board in an intricate dance. Helen and Jake watched with pride in their eyes. Five minutes later, Trent strummed the last notes. He opened his eyes to see the five people who mattered most to him, standing up and applauding. Taking a small bow, he ambled off the stage with a content smile over his face."
Judy Blue: A Worldhopper/Worldburner Prelude, by Erin Mills and Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "Judy's fist connected with Jane's mouth with absolutely no input from her brain. Jane reeled back in pain, caught by her little trolls. She reached up and touched her mouth. Blood was welling from one corner of her lips and between a couple of her teeth." (Part 6)
Kolchak: The Lawndale File, by Chris Tucker (UPDATED!): "As always, the police were confident of a quick arrest and swift prosecution, and they also begged the public for any information concerning the murder. That performance reminded me greatly of the Red Queen."
Law & Order: Idjits' Intent, by Brian Taylor (part 1): "'So, uh, like, what happened to Stewart, uh, doctor?' Beavis took a sip from his coffee. Butt-head noted it was his third for the day and made plans accordingly."
Moving the Goalposts, by Kristen Bealer (COMPLETE!): "'Is everything okay, Sandi?' No! It's not! You've only been at this school for a few months and already you've got all the guys wrapped around your finger, you're stealing my club out from under me, and I can't figure out how to stop it because all I can think about right now is my cat!" (Part 4)
My World Alone : The Start of Jane Lane's Journey, by OverlordMikey (parts 2 and 3): "Jane continued to chase the person. It was definitely a person. A real moving human being. 'Please stop!' Tears where flowing down her cheeks. It had been so long since that day. She didn't care who it was just as long as she had someone! The person turned the corner, Jane followed, and..." (Part 3)
A Path Forged From a Lie: An Interactive Daria Fic, by OverlordMikey (part 1): "Robert nervously scratched his head. 'Um would it be okay if we went out sometime. Or you could come over my place. What I'm trying to say is... Daria wanna do something again sometime?' Daria was shocked. She ran past an equally shocked Quinn and went inside. She then proceeded to lock herself in her room and scream."
Politricks are Not for Kids, by Brian Taylor (part 8): "JANE: Since when am I not allowed to yell at the press? Because you promised me, Daria. You promised me that if I took this job, I was allowed to scream at idiots as much as I wanted to."
The Red Headed League, by nullset (parts 1 and 2): "The husband had become quite eccentric and had taken to pelting his wife with small plastic penguins across the dinner table. Even then, she didn’t snap and throttle him one day, as many would opine she’d have the right to. Actually, she poisoned him slowly with arsenic in his nightly glass of bourbon." Part 2
Road Trip, by Chris Tucker (part 2): "There was a sheet of paper taped to the front of the coffee maker. LARGE letters advised her: 'Janey. There's coffee in the filter and it's been filled with water. Push the button. Love you, Trent.'"
Sleepwalker, by Jim North (COMPLETE!): "With infinite patience, Daria followed around from the other side. The girl tromped her boots as she walked with no worries regarding stealth. She was too powerful. Her prey had nowhere to go. Stacy would would eventually be cornered and she would have to decide between perfect symbiosis or a brutal death."
Sleepwalker: Endless Nights, by Jim North (COMPLETE!): "Stacy sucked on her cigarette until it burned all the way down to the filter. 'It's a paintball mask,' she said. With a completely nonchalant air, she reached out and stubbed the cherry of her cigarette right in the middle of the mask's viewport." (Part 2) (Part 3)
Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (part 8): "Quinn started to buy her own soda, but she couldn’t. To buy her own when there was an available man who could have gotten it for her meant she was unpopular. And Quinn was not unpopular. She went without."
Unnamed Story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Ouch Time), by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "A gentle smile came over his face as he watched her, bathed in morning sunlight and frowning prettily as she set to her task. A strand of hair fell across her forehead and he extended a finger to brush it away."
The Vision of the Burning Cities, by jtranser: "'What psychotronics does is effectively continue this process that would have otherwise been discredited, abandoned and replaced with something else. Its power is strong enough to continue forcing people into jobs they loathe, parking them under their bosses' thumbs, converting them into a herd of sycophants and forcing them to keep their opinions to themselves. And that brings us to you.'" (Another part here!)
Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (part 9): "Quinn now needed two things to work on: Something to make her stand out more, and something to make Brenda stand out less. Quinn needed some mud to find. Brenda Matthews could not be first, only Quinn Morgendorffer was allowed for first place."

Still goofing around while TAG's away
Okay, due to being out of town for almost four days, I let this fanfic update go a little longer than I expected. Sorry about that! I promise, though, this blog is still alive. Technically.
Daria & Son: The Ex Factor, by Erin Mills and Brian Taylor (COMPLETE!): "CHARLENE: ...and so that's when I tried to buy the horse a prostitute."
Family History, by Lawndale Lurker: "'What's the matter, Ronnie? You look preturbed.'"
The fiercest battles lie within, by VPrad (parts 6 - 10): "Tom froze for a second, thinking about if he should continue or go back upstairs. Finally his face expression hardened, showing absolute decision. He had to know, if he decided to retreat now he knew that would torment him for the rest of his life." (Part 7) (Part 8) (Part 9) (Part 10)
Flying the Unfriendly Skies, by LadieT (COMPLETE!): "'Pay attention ... I ain't got all day. I have to make an AA commercial for Lindsay Lohan next.'"
Free Radio Lawndale, by Ken Tremberth & Erin Mills (broadcasts 11-13): "As you can hear, my technical director is sterilizing herself as we speak...and is enjoying it WAY too much, if you want my opinion. Would you knock that off?"
General Semantics, Private Angst, by gwrtheyrn (part 30): "Makkenji pulled himself to his feet. 'Last night, I was half afraid that doctor'd feed me straight into some super-shrink brain scanner, and leave me a vegetable,' he said, as he started toward the door. 'I got the feeling he didn't like me a bit.'"
God Save The Esteem 5: And The Mall Won, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "The Mall was flooded with punks, hippies, Goths, stoners, metalheads, nu-metallers, rockers, mods, alternatives, outlaw bikers, BDSM doms and subs, anarchists, gangstas, and two Orthodox Jews who were thought to have gone to the wrong place until one high-fived a nu-metaller and sung out Slipknot lyrics as a greeting."
God Save The Esteem Ep 6: Model Students, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "Quinn had seen Daria being ‘escorted’ out of school and managed to find out why from that... that nob in her class, Tim was it? Anyway, that shit was not on. Her sis was trying to keep it real and the Fascists were Fascistising her. You did not let that stand."
God Save The Esteem Ep7: I Am A Scientist, by Charles RB (part 1): "The second night, Kevin’s mother opened the door and stared at her in a look of uncomprehending terror, a Lovecraft protagonist who’d just seen Cthulhu doing a striptease."
Hack the Planet.exe, by Brian Taylor and Charles RB (part 4): "Jake picked up his briefcase and walked out of his office whistling a happy work song. He was important, gah-dammit. He had underlings. His work account had a completely unguessable password. And by tomorrow, a janitor would have stopped by to put some kind of air freshener in his office."
Jacob Morgendorffer, Esq., by Cap (part 13): "Jake followed his sister-in-law’s husband Rafe outside into the fading light of the cold winter day. A sharp wind tugged at their overcoats as snow crunched beneath their boots but neither felt the chill bundled as they were against the season’s wrath. A cardinal, its bright red plumage contrasting sharply with the deep green leaves of the cedar tree that he rested on, eyed them curiously as the pair walked silently across the back yard past the pond to the fence of posts and field wire. The large pasture beyond was empty. The goats, sheep, and horses that the Bonnejeans kept were safe and warm in the large barn."
The James Lane Chronicles Ch 1, by InvisibleDan (COMPLETE!): "'None of the doorknobs in the house lock. And no one bothered to fix them.' 'That must make shower time especially thrilling.' 'My brother Wind read some book about breaking down boundaries between yourself and others and decided to break the locks on all the doors inside.'"
Jane Morgendorffer, by LadieT (parts 10 and 11): "This year, Jane decided to ask for less than years past. Santa had two new people he needed to deliver to and didn't want him to skip over Daria and Trent like he had done before." (Part 11)
Joey in L.A., by Cap (COMPLETE!): "The sun was a ball of flame sinking into the sea when a tanned bare chested Joey Mallarme stepped out onto the balcony of his new condominium in the Venice district of Los Angeles."
Judy Blue: A Worldhopper/Worldburner Prelude, by Erin Mills and Brother Grimace (parts 1 - 4): "On the small bed was a young woman in her late teens or early twenties. She had shoulder length brown hair and was clad in a white jumpsuit with paper slippers. She had her knees up, her arms clasped around them and her head bowed. "Ms. Tsereba," Trainor began, "May I introduce you to Daria Judith Morgendorffer?"" (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4)
Kolchak: The Lawndale File, by Chris Tucker (continued!): "I relaxed a bit, yet was prepared for the inevitable firestorm. It's something any experienced newspaperman comes to expect. First the gladhand, then the heavy artillery. Nobody really likes us. Often enough, we don't like most of the people we deal with daily."
Lane & Morgendorffer, by LadieT (part 2): "'Stacy Clinton - as in Stacy Rowe-Clinton? Great ... our victim was almost run over by a race-car driver.' Jane sighed."
LAW & ORDER: HIGHLAND (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Ouch Time), by Brian Taylor (COMPLETE!): "As she heard the approaching sniggering of her two least capable detectives, Captain Daria Morgendorffer looked up from the body of Stewart Stevenson, sixteen years old, and mumbled something ugly under her breath."
Lawndale Babies, by rglovejoy (COMPLETE!): "Helen lifted Quinn out of the high chair and set her on the floor. 'Your friends are coming over soon for your birthday party, sweetie. Isn't that nice?'"
Lawndale and Sandi Griffin’s Genie, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (parts 1 and 2): "Then, there, in the centre of the room an impossibility occurred. What to be a normal teenage girl, much like Sandi herself appeared, appearing to coalesce out of the swirls of light." (Part 2)
Lion Sharing (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Ouch Time), by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "'Thank you for contacting you, Dr. Armalin,' Helen said, following the man in the Marine uniform and lab coat down the hall towards a large room, Jake, Quinn and Jane right behind them, 'but how can you be sure that you've found my daughter?'"
Love Rescue Me, by LadieT (parts 3 - 5): "'I'm worried about you. Promise me you'll get to bed early tonight. Valentine's Day is Friday and I don't want my date showing up like he's trying out for the role of a zombie in 'Night Of The Living Dead'.'" (Part 4) (Part 5)
Moving the Goalposts, by Kristen Bealer (parts 1 and 2): "I didn't care that he still hadn't apologized. I didn't care that he was crudely propositioning the President of the Fashion Club. I didn't even care that he was leering at my breasts without a trace of shame. That was all immaterial. The insinuation that Alexandra Griffin would be interested in doing anything in a van? Unforgivable." (Part 2)
Moving Pictures, by Brian Taylor (part 8): "'Hellion's taking night classes at law school,' says Jake with pride. 'If you really want to stick it up the Man and snap it off, you have to know exactly where to stab him,' she says, sneering at Gordon with obvious relish."
Promises In Flames, by thatLONERchick (COMPLETE!): "Stacy's breathing came in quick, ragged gasps as she crouched over Daria's unconscious form. Chaos swirled around them, shouting and the occasional explosion as the fire claimed another gas tank and the destruction spread. A filthy hand reached out and stroked blood-matted hair back from a still face. She looked so different without her glasses."
Raft College: The First Year, by rglovejoy (part 27): "After Helen left, Daria went right back to sleep. This time, she dreamt that she was out in the ocean on a small fishing boat. Daria struggled to reel in a really big fish. For some reason, the fish had bright red hair. 'Daria,' it said, 'I'm done with the shower.'"
Road Trip, by Chris Tucker (Part 1): "4 AM is far too early for the clock radio to commence clamoring for attention."
Save Yourself, by Ardneh (COMPLETE!): "Screaming, Mary launched herself at Jane. Shaking, she clung to Jane, 'Thank god you're here. I don't know what to do? Please, please help her. Please, I don't know what to do', Mary cried."
Sleepwalker, by Jim North (continued!): "Daria laughed, sighed, and swiped her hands across her face before putting her glasses back on. 'You're right,' she said. 'It was a good plan, I'm a good person, and we've all learned an important lesson for the future. Don't trust anyone, even if they're dead. Especially if they're dead.'"
Summer Interlude: "The Last Day", by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "The girls shared a laugh. Both realized that this sort of shared experience would be rare for them starting tomorrow. They would be living miles apart at different schools. Life would be different for them. Far different from what they had known for their scant years."
Summer Interlude: "Last Day On The Job", by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "'So, the working girl has now thrown off her chains of wage slavery, free to enjoy two weeks of freedom until she willingly dons the chains of academic slavery.'"
Two Body Problem, by RLobinske (part 3): "Despite being five minutes late, Amy hesitated outside the simulated rustic-looking building. 'You can do this, Amy. It's only dinner. If things go wrong, you leave and that's the end of it.'"
Unlucky Strike, by Roentgen (COMPLETE!): "'Pat,' Terry said, 'it was not required of you to purchase bowling shoes. You go to the little man who rents the bowling shoes, you tell him your size and he gives you a pair of shoes. Elementary.'"
Unnamed Story (Flinging Fourth the New Ideas Thread), by Trscroggs (COMPLETE!): "'I didn't mind, well much at least,' Quinn said as she affixed the poster, 'I could have done without the public nudity but since I prefer my soul unconsumed I can live with the embarrassment.'"
Unnamed Story (Scenes no Daria fanfic should have: Ouch Time), by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "'ALL else has FAILED - you've BROUGHT ME to THIS, Li! I'M PICKETING NAKED!!'"
Unnamed Story (Scenes We'd Like To See), by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (COMPLETE!): "Quinn and her friend were still squealing (although only a few decibels less and with mere exitement, but still quite loud enough to penetrate the padded confines of her room) so Daria decided to see what was happening."
Unnamed Story (Scenes We'd Like To See), by Chris Tucker (COMPLETE!): "'Well, I must confess. I did grab his big ten inch...'"
The Vision of the Burning Cities, by jtranser (continued!): "'I know a musician who liberated himself by tuning a dream guitar to an open G tuning, hit a note, and woke up to The Rolling Stones ringing in his headphones.'"
A work in progress. Subject to revision, by Chris Tucker (continued): "But it's GOT TO BE BETTER than Highland and Lawndale High. If not, there will be a multi state killing spree. (insertsmileyemoticonifiusedthemwhichidont)" (another new part here.)
WORLDBURNER: You Can’t Take It With You, by Charles RB (COMPLETE!): "'Why us?' she asked him, her voice half-dead. 'Do I and my family really deserve life more than Jodie and hers? Than Kevin?'"
Y-Me?, by HolyGrail2007 (Parts 2 - 7): "While there were a number of guys here, the ratio had to be somewhere around 3:1, and Quinn didn’t like that. Less guys meant less susceptible targets who could buy her a drink." (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7)
See, I told you there'd be more! Eventually!

What's new at the PPMB? (And a bonus discussion question!)
Okay, last week I updated everyone on the latest fan-fiction posted at the PPMB. I intend to do another update at some point, but for now I'm going to highlight a few recent discussions:
Kara Wild has posted pictures and stories about her trip to Australia.
Speaking of travel, do you live in Europe or can you be there between October 5th and 14th? If so, you have a chance to meet Quiverwing during her trip. Vote in MartinUK's poll!
Hazazel started an interesting discussion about things in Daria episodes that are more silly than realistic.
Charles RB posted cosplay photos from Dragon*Con 2010.
Who do you think is the sexiest woman warrior of all time? Make your case in this thread.
And there are two threads in Deep Thoughts related to Daria and sexuality. Brother Grimace wrote a ficlet parodying how often this kind of topic has been discussed, which leads me to...
...what Daria topics do you think are woefully untouched in fandom? Do you wish the question of whether Daria prefers plain or peanut M & Ms could be settled? Or yearn for a heated argument over Helen's favorite band? What about an epic, ten-page long debate over which Daria characters would be what nail polish color, and why?
Post your ideas in the comments!

Substitute loser, filling in!
Class, you may have noticed I'm not your usual blogger. The Angst Guy, our hard-working and much-revered regular host, is unfortunately busy with that pesky Real Life thing I've heard so much about. We'll try to keep things afloat in the meantime, okay?
Please promise you won't tell TAG
For now, here's a great big list of the new fanfic that's been posted on the PPMB in the past week and a half!
Ace attorney: Turnabout Teacher's Pet, by LSauchelli (part 17): "Jane paced around the lobby, checking her spiky hair every two minutes in a tiny pocket mirror and taking deep breaths. Why wouldn’t anyone let her see Barch?"
Another normal day in Lawndale, by JPAGC (part 5): "The girl hold his stare for a moment before lowering hers, gnashing her teeth and scribbling something on her notebook with unnecessary force. O'Neill stopped staring at her and slowly returned to his desk, all the while addressing all students."
Anthony DeMartino Just Wants To Have Fun, by Smijey: "'"The Sick, Sad Book of Slaughters, Mysterious Maulings, and Deranged Decapitations". I got if off eBay for almost $200.' She traced her finger along the gruesome picture on the cover, which purported to be a cow post-alien mutilation."
Daria and the Chocolate Factory, by Smijey (part 1): "'Don't be absurd, Jane,' Daria said, tearing open the packaging. Don't get a swelled head over it!
Today marks the 16th anniversary of the MTV premiere of The Head, an odd but engaging animated show about a guy with a big head in which an alien lives. The series features a cameo by Butt-head, so it is arguably part of the same world as Daria. If so, why is that one kid wearing a T-shirt for The Head? So many mysteries....
Moar news soon.
