Hooked?

Pisces begins today, for the fishy zodiacal ones among you, so check your horror-scopes as Daria here has done. And learned to regret.

And this is the ninth anniversary of the first showing of "Fizz Ed" on MTV, kicking off the fifth and last season of Daria. Angst aplenty for all.

In the fandom, Kara Wild's essay, "The Off-Canon Approach" turns ten today, exactly. A milestone, there.

SKYPECON begins this weekend! Join in the fun of an online Dariacon! Meet new people! Argue with them!

Sketches of Mr. DeMartino, Quinn, and Sandi are offered by the illustrious MDetector5 on PPMB.

The new MTV Daria site is going strong. The URL used to connect to thumbnail descriptions of the episodes in the series, but the whole thing has been greatly expanded (thank goodness). The official Daria Facebook site will give you a pre-order special if you sign up. Amazon now has a pre-order section, as do several other sites.

Sick, Sad World has updated, as of a few days ago. Outpost Daria updated a few days ago to offer details on the DVD release.

Glitter Berries is still impossible to get, but you can download the whole thing here and are encouraged to do so soon.

The MySpace fan group, Daria and Jane 4ever, has unexpectedly ceased to exist. It had the largest collection of fans until the official Facebook site came up.

Another great fanfic update coming this weekend. Stay tooned.

Unearthed from the Internet Archives III

And see if you can remember who these guys are. They just beg for angst-filled fanfic, don't they?

Musing at the Museum

It's International Museum Day! Hooray! Not sure where I got the image at right, but it's great. How many places in official Daria lore has this museum appeared? I can recall two, myself.

It is also Victoria Day in the distant northern reaches of the Earth, and a mere 99 years ago today the Earth passed through the tail of Halley's Comet. Because of poisonous gas in the tail, everyone died. Or they would have if the poisonous gas had not been so diffuse. Rats. There should be a Daria alternate universe about this event. It would be cool.

More soon.

  • Rings and Things That Cannot Go Together, by Ranger Thorne (continued): The robotic legions marched over the rise toward the city in the distance. Behind them, the landing craft lifted off to make room for more ships with troops. That more had not, in fact, arrived would have made any truly sentient being worried. But the mechanical troops merely obeyed the orders given: destroy the city of Bleth.

Undone in October

Diane Long's classic tale "Undone" takes place in October about this time in the early to mid-2000s. Check it out. Angst sure didn't start with me.

Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada (thank you) and Columbus Day (observed) in the U.S., when we celebrate whatziname in that boat. Also, the Whirlpool Galaxy was discovered 235 years ago. I love that galaxy.

More after I return from work. Have a good one until then.

Terms of Endearment

Like a kid in a big sandbox, I have been playing in DariaWiki and have created some new pages, but it would help if someone else looked them over and corrected or added to the material there. Of late I have developed an interest in discussing the larger scope of fandom and fanfiction writing, particularly Fanwork Conventions. The following pages could use some extra sets of eyes, especially in adding more examples and maybe more pictures, something that best illustrates the issue under discussion.
See if you can make these clearer and more interesting. Thanks for the help!
