Nobunny Expected to See This

Upchuck is celebrating the anniversary of the late Hugh Hefner's birth on this day one hundred years ago in a scene that could only come from his wildest dreams and the Fashion Club's worst nightmares. Unless this is just moments before the girls, having lulled him into a false sense of security, kill him and hide the body where no one will find it.

If they do follow through with this plot, they may need to take Jake's advice for Name Yourself Day: "Walk away. You change your name, move to another state, get some ID." Sorry, everybody who's also planning on observing this one; I already have dibs on "Esmerelda."

Finally, be sure to appreciate any ancient sandwiches you may sit on because it's National Cherish an Antique Day! You could also visit a flea market and see if you find any treasures like California Raisins posable erasers or Annette Funicello albums.

Upchuck's Fondest Dream...and the Fashion Club's Worst Nightmare

Happy birthday to Hugh Hefner, who was born on this day in 1926 and is most likely one of Upchuck's greatest idols. I don't see the scene in this alter ego ever becoming reality, though. Never mind Upchuck getting that many girls to fawn on him; just try to imagine the Fashion Club girls willingly wearing matching outfits!

Fanfic Update!
  • Cynic and a Six-String, by fringeperson (part 8): "Daria was working on a new piece (poetry, rather than anything musical this time) while Jane attacked large objects with her sci-fi convention worthy glue gun when the destructive force of jarring chords through an amplifier destroyed a piece of sculpture that was, according to Jane, a week's worth of work."

  • Doctor Who: Annoyance, by cfardell_Brenorenz29 (part 1): "Tegan Jovanka was annoyed. That was a emotion that she usually felt during her adventures, with the Doctor (along with fear), but she was more annoyed than usual."

  • James the Lesser Presents Vinny Lane, by James the Lesser (part 39): "Vinny and Daria were amused as Quinn freaked out over finding a boyfriend."

  • A New Set of Rules, by Dennis (COMPLETE!): "Daria's first semester in the grad program at U. Chicago had been taxing, and the winter break promised mostly prep for an arduous second semester."

  • Situation Update On The Detainees, by Brother Grimace (COMPLETE!): "The red-haired male patient lifted the weights with a mechanical motion, his defined arms moving up and down as he kept lifting the heavy barbells."

Rrrr...Delusional!

Upchuck is living out his greatest fantasy--and the Fashion Club's greatest nightmare--in honor of Hugh Hefner's birthday. The Playboy publisher turns 89 today, and I have little doubt that Upchuck would love to follow in his footsteps.

Today is also National Cherish an Antique Day, so it's time to gather up all of your old valuables. I don't care if it's a pink water pistol, a peanut-butter sandwich from the tank, or a complete 1985 California Raisins posable eraser set; start cherishing them all!

Upchuck's Role Model, As It Were

This is the 84th birthday of Playboy magnate Hugh Hefner, and who better to handle the alter ego than Charles Ruttheimer III. Amazing what you can do with degrees in both psychology and creative writing. (Read HH's bio.) Upchuck and Mr. Hefner are mentioned together a lot in Daria fanfiction, of course.

Seen any Jane Lanes around lately?

Stay tooned.

  • Finn Morgendorffer 42: The Suburban Symphony, by HolyGrail2007 (Part 1): “Is Finn there?” a voice with a slight slur had answered. The voice was not one Helen knew. “He isn’t. He’s in Boston for the weekend.” “Boston!” The girl’s voice was enchanted. “And he didn’t invite me.” The sentence tapered into a sharp hiccup. “Who is this?” Helen had asked. “My name? It’s... Lindy.”
  • Ring-a-Ling, by Doggieboy (Part 4): Andrea Hecuba sat back on a couch, her feet propped up on a coffee table and a can of Fizzy Gulp in her left hand. A remote control device rested on her midriff and moved slightly as she breathed. A music video blared on a television. She watched it in comfort. Of course, she was more comfortable since her parents were at the hospital visiting a sick friend. The telephone rang. She pushed the mute button on the remote control, then she answered the phone. “Yeah?”
  • NEW! Tom Sloane: Angel or Demon? by Quiverwing (COMPLETE!): As I wait for Tom Sloane at Babylon, a restaurant with scintillating views across London’s skyline, I can't help but wonder which Tom is going to show up. Will it be the preppy, sophisticated heir of the Sloane fortune? Or the cynic, charming, low-key ex-boyfriend of Daria Morgendorffer?
