Hitting Below the Designer Belt

Either Stacy is celebrating Boxing Day in an unusual fashion (pun intended) or she has taken exactly as much of Sandi's crap as she's willing to take. I hope Daria doesn't decide to get the old refrigerator box out again, partly because it might bring back bad memories and partly because it's too cold to sit outside in a cardboard box.

On the other hand, a little solitude at any temperature might be the better option if Quinn decides to celebrate National Whiners Day today. I'm sure she has plenty of subjects to whine about, from not getting her preferred Christmas gifts to Stacy wearing a crop top with baggy shorts.

I assume that the Guptys are celebrating Kwanzaa today, based on the presence of "Kaneesha's First Kwanzaa" in their book collection. Unless they've decided that Kwanzaa is too commercial and rots your teeth or something, that is.

Instead of either shopping or punching people, Daria has elected to spend Boxing Day by boxing...herself. Gotta say, of the three options this one sounds the most appealing to me, too. Throw in a good book and I'm set for the whole day!

This is also the first day of Kwanzaa, which the Gupty family...might...celebrate? Based on their owning a copy of Kaneesha's First Kwanzaa, anyway. With that group, I can't even guess.

Float Like a Fashionista

Stacy's got her game face on for Boxing Day, which has more to do with shopping than the sport of boxing. Then again, maybe this is Stacy's preferred method of shopping? If so, I pity the shoppers (or Sandi) who get in her way today.

Today is also Kwanzaa, and I assume the Guptys will be reading "Kinesha's First Kwanzaa" to celebrate. With any luck, Tad and Tricia's training will kick in and they'll contribute all kinds of fun commentary along the way.

Normally I would tell Stacy that Boxing Day has nothing to do with the combat sport, but one look at her expression tells me I'd rather just stay out of her way. I don't know what Sandi said this time, but I'm sure she'll regret it soon.

Today is also the first day of Kwanzaa, and I expect the Guptys will be reading Tad and Tricia Kaneesha's First Kwanzaa to celebrate.

Sandi Had Better Watch Out

Someone needs to pull Stacy aside and let her know that although today is Boxing Day, it really doesn't have anything to do with the combat sport. Looking at her expression, though, you might want to wait until she changes out of her fighting gear.

Boxing Fashionistas

Happy Boxing Day! Put away the gloves; today is generally considered a day for lots of shopping. The Fashion Club are observing the proper traditions with gusto, but Daria will probably spend the day in a refrigerator box to avoid the consumerism mania.

It was also six years ago today that CINCGREEN created the first Daria Fandom Blog. Although that specific blog is no longer being updated, the DFB tradition still continues today!

Today is Boxing Day (nothing to do with "Boxing Daria") and also the 5th anniversary of the beginning of the first Daria Fandom Blog. The DFB was founded by CINCGREEN with the slogan: "We read the Daria message boards, so YOU don't have to!" To James Bowman's great work is this blog dedicated.

Boxing Day! Woo-hoo!

It's Boxing Day once again, celebrated everywhere throughout the Commonwealth except in the U.S., which did not get the memo. I believe you are supposed to give little presents to all your house servants today, which is a good thing because I don't have any, so I don't have to spend anything. Everyone else, however, must spend the day inside a box.

This is also the second of the Twelve Days of Christmas, not celebrated everywhere but everyone knows the song, which is about the same thing.

Writers who want to create Steampunk Daria tales should take note that today is the 217th birthday of the esteemed Charles Babbage, who came THAT CLOSE to changing all history, starting the Computer Age a century before its regularly scheduled time.

A famous comedian and commentator, Steve Allen, was also born this day 87 years ago. Mr. Allen became a harsh critic of television after having long been one of its greatest promoters; he is today regarded as one of the most influential and important TV personalities ever. Daria may have found his writings and commentary of some interest, though she was quite a fan of the vulgarity that so appalled Mr. Allen.

Finally, today is the 117th birthday of U.S. author Henry Miller, who wrote a lot about sex, which we don't talk much about here. Did Daria read anything by Henry Miller? If she did, we won't talk about it here.

Wednesday Is... Boxing Day!

Boxing Day is a special day celebrated across the British Commonwealth when people get boxes and . . . you know, do box-related sorts of things with them. Something like that, I dunno. Whatever floats your boat, that's what I say.

Almost 500 active links now grace the Daria Directory in the left column, your one-stop spot for anything Daria-ish. Discounting duplicated links in different columns, there are still over 450 links. True, most are not active, but some good places keep up with the times.

Speaking of boxes, didn't you think it odd that Daria felt guilty in "Boxing Daria" for tormenting her parents all those years? "What I didn't realize is what a pain I've been when I thought I was just being me," she tells Jane, and Jane's response, naturally, is "Huh?" That was my response, too. I cannot believe Daria didn't know she was being a pain by just being herself, since 99% of "just being herself" consisted of making snarky sarcastic remarks every five seconds and ranting about life and being resentful and so on. Maybe it's just me, but I can't believe she didn't know that she was like that already. Whatever.
