It's a Good Day for Creativity!

Brittany is looking particularly statuesque for International Sculpture Day, but I think she's going to have a hard time performing with the cheerleaders from now on. Let's hope she doesn't end up at the top of the pyramid!

While Jane is a likely candidate to celebrate by sculpting, she might prefer National Day of Puppetry so that she can explore new ways that puppets make everything funnier. Except for wacky morning DJs, of course.

Daria, meanwhile, might observe Tell a Story Day by frightening her family at a campfire or putting modern twists on classic fairy tales. She could also come up with a new Melody Powers story and share it with Mrs. Blaine!

Brittany Rocks!

Brittany Taylor appears here as she might look if famed sculptor Henry Moore had used her as a model for one of his abstract works. Today is Henry Moore's 112th birthday anniversary (as was noted last year). Not sure if this qualifies as "fan art," as Mr. Moore died over a decade before Daria went on the air.

Penguin Books celebrates its 75th birthday today. The appearance of Penguin sparked the paperback book revolution, making inexpensive copies of great works available to everyone, at least until today when the price difference between a large trade paperback and a hardbound is almost nothing, given that they cost about $20 each.

  • College Wry, by LibertyBellJar (Part 5): Working the graveyard shift of the local twenty-four-hour convenience store could not be said to be the most favorable job in the word. But, the way the young clerk saw it, you had your perks. Witnessing the craziest of the crazies, for example, as he was now. One of the two soaking wet girls before him merely glared ferociously when he smirked, "Having a fun night, ladies?"

Brittany, Stoned

By the way, today is the 111th anniversary of the birth of famed sculptor Henry Moore (no relation), and Brittany is here as an alter ego of a Moore work of art. She resembles one or two of the "Seated Woman" sculptures Moore worked on in the late 1950s (this one or that one), but a lot of his works looked like this.

Today is also the 34th anniversary of the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Just wanted to mention that because we've talked about so many disappeared people, but I think this one is not such a mystery. (And, honestly, I don't want to know what happened to him.) His name comes up in "Lucky Strike."

Baltimore, one of the cities suggested as the general location of Lawndale, celebrates its 280th birthday today. Cheers to you!

It May Not Be Art, But It's Kinky and I Like It

One hundred ten years ago, the famous sculptor Henry Moore (no relation) was born. Brittany Taylor gives us a vague idea of what Mr. Moore's creations were like. Mmm, better just use Google to see what they were really like.

Baltimore, Maryland (the city of which Lawndale is often assumed to be a suburb) was founded 279 years ago today. And, with a tip of the cap to Willow and Coyote's little VW Beetle, the last "old style" Bug was produced in Mexico today, five years ago. What a strange history that car had!

  • Manse Griffin, by Smileyfax (Part 1): Quinn noticed some words affixed to the top of the gate. "Manse Griffin," she read aloud. "What's Manse?" [Great start of a new story, but please finish a couple of the unfinished ones! I beg you! WE beg you!—TAG]
